Well its obviously not the case every time but teams that go to the playoffs or are in the hunt every year likely don't need a high draft pick, they can make due with one in the 20's or up.

We've had this argument before..

As a life long Aints fan, I have seen them ripping defeat from the jaws of victory for far too long.. Last year was great.. We went into the playoffs as the second seed and actually had a shot at the Superbowl.. This year, we could've made still made the playoffs as of week 17 but we were horrible.. Even if we had made it, we prolly would've gotten destroyed in the wildcard round..

Why would I have wanted that?? As opposed to a top ten pick??

Kris P Lettus
01-14-2008, 07:20 PM

Yeah, then..

Come on though. Really? New Orleans had some pretty good games but the key players were horribly inconsistent when they were healthy. Brees looked like he did early in his career and Reggie Bush still hasn't put up NEARLY the numbers he was expected to.

Are we talking about the past or are we talking about this season? Figure it out and get back to me on whether I should just make fun of Philly for not even making the playoffs this year or for never winning a Super Bowl in their existence. I'm pretty easy. I'll let you choose the argument, I don't really care one way or the other. lol

Kris P Lettus
01-14-2008, 07:30 PM
What are you talking about??

Brees is still one of the best QB's in the league and Bush is still one of the best utilities players.. With Deuce being hurt (first quarter week 3), Bush was put in the position to be an every down back, which he is not.. He is much better in motion and playing wide out or slot.. Sure they made a horrible pick up in Jason "I'm the biggest piece of shit alive" David but other than that our D was fairly stout.. Good line, with decent linebackers, and guys like Mike McKenzie who didn't give up a TD until like week 15..

Other key injuries hurt us big also.. Brian Young was hurt for most of the season with Charles Grant fighting injuries for more than half the season.. Look at what the Colts great pass rushing line looked like without Freeney.. When some of your best d-linemen are hurt, that allows opposing o-lines to double up on guys like Will Smith etc.. Colston and Eric Johnson fought injuries late and Reggie missed like 3 and half game in the second half of the season..

Show me any team who lose 3 RB's for multiple games in one season, who make the super bowl..

McLegend
01-14-2008, 07:30 PM
Please make fun of the Eagles and Philadelphia. We are suppse to lose. We are losers. The Cowboys though are America's team and suppose to win. Cowboys are now Chokers. You are the Yankees of the NFL. You don't see the hilarity in that?

And also the Eagles can take credit for laying the blueprint on how to beat the Cowboys anyway.

So either way I'm cool.

Show me any team who lose 3 RB's for multiple games in one season, who make the super bowl..

I'm not arguing that. I'm just saying that simply losing 3 RBs in one season does not make a valid argument that you would have gone to a Super Bowl with them.

Well, you've made my point. I'm done.

Kris P Lettus
01-14-2008, 07:36 PM
Oh I didn't say that at all though.. I'm just saying with the injuries we had and inconsistancy I'd rather have not backed into the playoff cause all it would have gained us is a worse draft pick and another humiliating loss..

#1-norm-fan
01-14-2008, 07:38 PM
And Brees isn't a bad QB... one of the best is pushing it a little.

I think without the injuries, New Orleans would have made the playoffs but I don't feel like they would have made a very big impact. The team, when healthy just didn't have a consistent feel to me.

He is def top five.. Even though he still put up pretty great numbers in several games this year, the lack of a running game hurt him because he was forced to throw ALOT more.. We are much better when we establish the run and then use play action, than just running single back shotgun..

He's a good QB. His numbers get inflated a bit by the fact that they opt to run screens most of the time rather than run.

Top 5? That would imply that he is better than either Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Tony Romo, Brett Favre, or Matt Hasselbeck.

The one you COULD argue is Hasselbeck, however it would be a tough argument to make. And I didn't include some guys on that list that I think are better because you would just argue that they had a bad season (Carson Palmer, for example)

As opposed to a top ten pick??I would rather have another game of football to watch, the #10 pick could end up being garbage while the #18 pick could be the best pick in the draft. Plus its the NFL, anything can happen. Where people really thinking the Giants would be playing in the NFC Championship game? Weren't the Steelers a 6th seed in the AFC when they won it all? If the Saints made the playoffs, Bush might have been able to play then with the emergence of Stecker they could have went back to the one-two punch which obviously fits their offense best, so who knows what could have happened?

Not making the playoffs to get a higher (not always better) draft pick is a terrible attitude to have in my opinion, not that really matters since that is only your attitude and not that of players. So while everyone on TPWW thinks they play for each team they support, they don't, so their attitudes towards the game really don't matter I suppose.

Actually, Ellis Hobbs did the same dance on the Charges logo and midfield after the playoff win which is what caused Rivers to call me "the sorriest corner in the league", the Patriots reaction however was atributed to payback from when the Charges destoryed the Patriots in Foxboro earlier that year, there were reports some Charges players were yelling insults into the patriots locker-room after the game and went "over board" celebrating a regular season win.

either way, should be a decent game... honestly, I'd rather face a banged up LT then a healthy/fresh Turner.

Also, on Rivers claiming he and LT wanted to go back in, there are reports that there was an argument on the sideline between LT and Rivers because LT wanted to go in and they wouldn't let him, Rivers was given the green light but refused because he said he "couldn't go"...

not sure how much of it is true, don't really care.

Moss's statement (short ver).

He's never attacked any woman in his life.

This is a friend of his who had an accident and injured herself and contacted her Lawyer and said if he didn't pay her they were going to the press before the AFC Championship.

He went on to say he doesn't know the full story of what he's being charged with, (although nothing has been filed for charges against him) and that his teammates know less then he does about it so to please leave them alone.

But he wanted to make clear he has never hurt a woman.

what really happened no idea... good thing the superbowl isn't in Miami :)

He's never hurt a woman in his life? He intentionally ran into a female police officer with his car. I refuse to believe everyone has forgotten about this already.

See, when I used to bring that up Bean (rip) who is from those parts said she actually sat on his car to try and not let him leave and he pressed the gas...

I don't know the details but yeah, she he said that was the first thing I thought of.

although, I may have misquoted, when I heard it replayed he may have said "laid my hands and batttered" or something like that...

Anyway, it seems to look more like he had nothing to do with this, they just wanted money.

He knew it was coming because of the threat/extortion try and he told Belicheck already so this didn't shock any of them.

The new details is there was some "accident" in her house and she doesn't have health care and asked him who she's known a long time to pay her medicle...

either this woman is completely nuts or theres more to come out.

Jerry Jones needs to hire Jason Garret right now. They are losing coaches , and who's gonna wana come for a lame duck tenure since Phillips isn't the long term answer. Before he takes off Jones should hire him so he could get his own coaching staff together and go from there.

And I hope they don't trade any of those 2 1st round picks, to like the Pats for the 7th pick. We should just get all the players we can get.

Jesus Shuttlesworth

Jesus Shuttlesworth
01-16-2008, 11:54 PM
Barber is a free agent and Julius Jones is expendable IMO, I've heard a lot of people saying that Jerry Jones loves McFadden.

McFadden isn't gonna be able to run between the tackles in the NFL I don't think, I just have that feeling. I'd rather get Jonathan Stewart out of Oregon.

Kris P Lettus
01-16-2008, 11:56 PM
So why trade up to get a RB if you're good for a year or two??

There will be other good RBs later..

p.s. I think Felix Jones will be the sleeper pick of this years draft and he prolly won't go until like the third or fourth round..

Kris P Lettus
01-16-2008, 11:57 PM
I didn't know that about Barber but they'd be stupid to get rid of him..

Jesus Shuttlesworth
01-17-2008, 12:01 AM
Felix Jones is probably gonna be a first rounder as well

Ray Rice I think is gonna surprise people in the NFL, I can see a lot of people passing on him because of his size but I think he'll be good.

Also, I am just saying I heard Jones loves McFadden - so yeah he probably would be willing to trade for a player who he thinks is a primetime running back. I mean, he is all set with an average back with Julius Jones but if he really feels strongly about McFadden I could see them cutting Jones, resigning Barber and picking up McFadden.

Kris P Lettus
01-17-2008, 12:03 AM
I dunno about Felix Jones being a first rounder even though he is the man.. I mean he's been hella overshadowed by McFadden but I guess will see..

I would really hate to see McFadden become a brokeback Cowboy..

Jesus Shuttlesworth
01-17-2008, 12:08 AM
I dunno, I don't really think he was all that outshadowed by McFadden. I mean McFadden got all the hype and shit, but I think NFL teams are drooling over Felix as well - otherwise he wouldn't be coming out early.

Actually, it seems Denver wants Karl Dorrell now, the former UCLA coach. He was also our WR coach from 2000-02. Most well known season is from when he coached both Smith and McCaffrey to 100+ catch/1000+yards in 2000.

Rams owner Frontiere passes away

St. Louis Rams

ST. LOUIS –- Georgia Frontiere, owner of the National Football League’s St. Louis Rams, passed away in Los Angeles on Friday. She had been hospitalized for several months with breast cancer.

Georgia Frontiere (1927-2008):
» Video: Frontiere obituary
» Photos: Georgia Frontiere (1927-2008)
» Owner who moved Rams dies
» Daughter, son remember Frontiere
» Commissioner Goodell's statement
» From StLouisRams.com

Frontiere, 80, was principal owner of the Rams since inheriting the team from her husband Carroll Rosenbloom in 1979. Georgia was one of the few active female owners of a major professional franchise. She is survived by two children, son Dale (Chip) Rosenbloom and daughter Lucia Rodriguez, six grandchildren, and Earle Weatherwax, her companion of 19 years.

Under Georgia’s ownership the Rams were based in Los Angeles from 1979 until 1995, when Frontiere relocated the franchise to St. Louis, her hometown. The St. Louis Rams were Super Bowl champions in the 1999 season and NFC champions in the 2001 season.

Statement from Georgia’s daughter, Lucia Rodriguez, and son, filmmaker Chip Rosenbloom:

"Our mom was a beautiful person who lived an extraordinary life. She put up a courageous and brave fight. Thanks to her doctors and her spirit we were blessed with more time with her than expected.

"Our mom was dedicated to being more than the owner of a football team. She loved the Rams’ players, coaches, and staff. The warmth and generosity she exuded will never be forgotten.

"She will be missed by those who loved her and will be remembered as a kind and generous person. We will love her forever."

Statement from John Shaw, President of the Rams:

"It’s been my privilege for twenty-eight years to work for a loyal, generous, and supportive owner who was totally committed to her football team. This is an enormous loss for me and for the Rams’ organization. All of our prayers and sympathy go out to her family."

Not a Rams fan, but I hate to hear about this. RIP.

Oh yeah, I'm the king of PC...

The reality is though with Jones you're right... The guy doesn't seem to be able to stay out of trouble.... Why would a team want to sign him and risk they may lose him during a key point of the season because he'll get suspended for doing something stupid.

DRA - he was a good player, who knows what he is now with the time off... the problem is if he keeps it up he's never going to get reinstated.

Did the Titans cut him or something? I thought he was still under contract with them

Not that I've heard, but you'd think for the right offer Tennessee would dump him now to recoup some of the losses.

I love the most recent one... he punched a woman at a strip club... she was a lawyer (now, I'm assuming she was a customer not a dancer).

Anyway, she dropped charges, either she got paid or realised she didn't need it advertised she was there...

Here's a question they asked the other day... you own a Strip Club... Pac Man Jones comes to the door... do you let him in?
