B/c to me, the Hawks calls at the end of that game where hella more questionable than a few pass plays while trying to run out the clock when A) Reggie Bush had already touched the ball more times than he did in half the season last year and B) Brees was on fire..
If you couldn't see that the "hater" comment was sarcastic you are a dumb motherfucker..
Nah honestly the NO/Seattle game was like the only game I got to fully watch this weekend, and I just really hate when teams do that. Like just kill the clock and try to win, don't cost yourself the game.

I think they fined him because its more of a safety issue, not because of the dumb uniform policy they have (might have said that in the article you posted but I didn't read it so yeah)

I see people do low tackles at people's knees all the time and not get called, does it have to be a certain kind of low tackle to be a chop block or whatever, never understood that.
Jesus Shuttlesworth
10-17-2007, 08:57 PM
Well a defender can dive at your knees all he wants.
An offensive player is allowed to throw a block at your knees as long as the defender isn't engaged with another offensive player, and you can't come at the defender's knees from behind. I'm not sure about how far down field they can take place in the NFL. I know in high school we were allowed to go down field and cut linebackers if we wanted to

oh my god. Who does this guy think he is? Fucking any chance they get they fucking cheat. Why dont Tom brady just take a knife on the field and slice the achilles of any defensive lineman who sacks him? For fucks sake can we play some honest football!
I KNEW HE CHEATED! THAT'S WHY WE LOST!! OF COURSE YOU CAN THROW 5 TD PASSES WHEN YOUR CHIN IS HANGING FREE AND COMFORTABLE!!!
Oh wait, I thought I was a Jets fan there for a second. :)

I am with you, I'm just saying, if Deuce wasn't hurt, and if Reggie hadn't already touched the ball like 25 times already, I would completely agree..

True story; when I was going to New York a few years back, I took a bus home. Consequently, I took a small excursion through Buffalo. My greatest memory from the city was when we drove past a cemetery that was advertising a "BUY ONE GET ONE FREE" deal for plots. Most ROFL thing I've ever had the chance to witness.

Wow, there really isn't much for a Falcons fan to grasp onto is their?
6 carries, 87yards.
Take away the 1 for 67yds and he was 5 for 20, a 4yd avg.
oh yeah and it was a 31-10 loss, so I really don't think anyone on the Falcons was "high stepping"...
Ok, so your a Falcons fan... explain to me something, as bad as their doing, why don't they just give Norwood the ball 20-30times and see what he can do?

Hey Im not the manager. I wish he could get 20-30 carries a game. I know we got owned. I knew we were going to get owned. Hell I fell asleep after they scored and it was like 14-10. Our defense was tragic and our offense is dogmatic. Only games I want us to win are against the Saints, and against the Giants, and depending on there record the Rams. It might be childish and stupid to want them to win because those are peoples favorate teams on here but hey I love to brag even if it is over the internet. But thats not the only reason. The Giants whopped us last year and I want revenge, the Saints are the team I hate the most. And I would only want to beat the Rams if they have a better record then us. Because I want a good draft pick. My points is....We are going to be bad this year, Jerious Norwood needs more carries, and bananna pudding is delicious. Petrino isn't a good NFL coach to begin with..so go ahead and put him on the list with Spurrier. Norwood should be getting bulkier carries despite the fact I have him on my fantasy team. Leftwich will stink it up for x number of games and Harrington will be back in there. Start printing those Brohm jerseys.

Yah, as you will see November 4th. I truely believe the Colts are going to stomp the Patriots asses. Run up the score on all these pissy little teams you've played all you want. Its not happening in Indianapolis. I cannot wait to here all the sports writers and espn and radio hosts who have blown there load from the start of the season over the Patriots. Its like they've completely forgot about the champs. Unreal. But its fantastic in a way cause the Colts have basically went undefeated, flying under the radar. So yah, you better hope your team runs up the score enough to compensate for the ass trashing they'll be recieving to the Champs.
Running up the score is bush league. It really is. Its really really pathetic when you think about the Pats logic too. Its like " We got caught cheating, everyone laughed at us ( as we should ), so uhh lets show them by running up the score on teams like the Dolphins and Bills .

It had the potential to be the toughest game we have all year. I'm actually a bit worried. As good as the Colts look. And as healthy as they are, the Jags always man up on us. Ofcourse, they always cry like little bitches when they lose to us, but still. They play us better then anyone in the league.

running up the score?
You never hold back in the first half, there is still 30mins of football left.
11:35 left, you're up 21 points... yeah you bring your starter back in... Cassell turns it over again, or the offense stalls, you could be looking at 8mins left only up 14 points.
This wasn't like they were up 40 points and brought brady back, 21points, over 11mins.
What was the game a few years a team scored 21points in like 4mins?
RP - I don't think anyone is comparing the Phins to the Colts if they are ESPN should fire them. Pats v. Colts should still be game of the year, well, until the two teams meet again in the afc championship.

Worst NFL season everrrrrr
Jets lose their 5th game by 1 possesion or less
Freaking Texans (my 2nd) come back from 22 in the 4th quarter, only for Kerry Collins to ruin it
Gay Bengals could throw all over the Jets if they wish, but they decide to run amuck with Kenny freaking Watson, possibly ruining my fantasy football week
freaking giants are good somehow
All anybody talks about is Pats and Colts (deservedly so I guess)

Teams I can bear to root for:

<S>Texans</S>
Jaguars
Browns
Steelers
Bengals
Packers
<S>Raiders</S>
<S>Eagles</S>
<S>Vikings</S>
<S>49ers</S>
<S></S>
<S>Browns and Bengals hanging by a thread anyway, Conference championships will prob be like Colts/Pats and Giants/Seahwaks </S>

That was the Colts, on MNF, against the defending superbowl champuon Bucs. The difference is, the Patriots are playing an 0-6 team, they're up 3 tds in the 4th quarter and the Dolphins have Cleo Lemmon and dont even have Ronnie Brown. Its running up the score in my book. Sorry, but it goes back to the whole video camera thing. You're the Patriots. Why would you even need to do these things? I dont get it. Oh well. Wont matter. I'm intrested in seeing how many loads people are blowing over that team when the Colts beat there asses.

Everytime i think about November 4th, i think about the AC/DC song Highway To Hell.

I think both teams have some really tough games next week.

what do you expect? 2 great teams, with great recent histories, afc championships, superbowls, etc... etc...
although it would be rather funny if both teams lose next week...
I think the key for the Colts to beat the Pats is do what the Pats always did to beat the Colts. Jam the WR and throw off the timing patters and take away the deep pass.
I really don't think anyone has come close to challenging the pats this year, thats why I want to see the colts, see a real defense how they do.

I don't bother watching ESPN because its a joke. Monday Night Football is nearly ruined for me because of the announcing. Its more like watching Maury Povich than it is a football broadcast, because the announcers are more concerned with whats going on off the field than anything on the field. I really hope running the ball and blitzing is the plan for the Colts, if it is the Pats will blow them out and it wont be close.
I'm not very familiar with the Colts DB's, do you have anyone near moss height? That's how GB used to stop him, double team him with guys near his height, double teaming him with 5'10 guys does nothing.

Kinda tough to find any corners in the NFL at 6 foot 4?
The Colts starting Corners are both listed at 6 foot (Kelvin Hayden, and Marlin Jackson). Of course everyone knows that if you double Moss it is just going to leave all the other Pats WR's open for Brady.

you'll see. I havent been wrong on my predictions this year. I think the Colts will hold the Pats to 24 pnts or less. And i also think the Colts will be on top of them early. The Pats will play from behind. And there wont be many deep passes once Brady drops back and gets blown up by Freeney or Mathis. Mark my words. might happen, i just dont see it... the Pats have never had an offense this good, this could go down as one of the best offenses of all time, Brady is on track to shatter most passing records and they still have a good running game. The OL is playing great and most of them can play more then one spot w/o losing a step.
Do I expect Brady to get sacked at some point, of course, but it wont change the game plan.
but as it's been pointed out... the Brady and Manning are each facing the only team they have never beat this week, so who knows....

Last week they covered Vrabel and Brady threw to Kyle Brady streaking across the back of the end zone...its just a really well designed play, kinda gotta pick your poison.
They also always use Vrabel in that formation, so while it seems like they throw to him every time he is the game, they really don't. 10 career catches 10 touchdowns though, gotta be some type of record lol

Prediction...
Pats take a 97-48 lead with 10 minutes left in the 4th quarter. After weeks of bitching about New England constantly running up the score, Belichick decides to run the ball. This leads to a Maroney fumble and Indy recovering a series of onside kicks to score 49 points in less than 10 minutes and we go to overtime tied at 97.
New England wins the coin toss in OT and elects to receive. On the return, Indy proceeds to knock Wes Welker back and forth around the field for 15 straight minutes, never allowing the offense on the field and finally tackling Welker when the clock reads 0:00.
It will be remembered as one of the few occasions where the game lives up to the hype.

I didn't see most the game, but if we're talking about 4th and 2 from the washington 37... it would have been a 54yd field goal attempt, he had his backups in there, the fact that Cassell pulled off a pass that turned into a 21yd play is funny... I mean, the Skins were supposed to be a test "a team with defense" and you can't stop Matt Cassell?
Anyway, everytime the Pats play the Colts I usually pick the Pats but can see a valid case for the Colts...
This time, I really don't... I give them respect, I just don't see how anyone stops this offense... and RP's idea of "we'll blitz brady" this is one of the best OL's in the league, sure you may hit him once or twice, he gets right up, the other times he's going to pick you apart...

I dunno I kinda feel like the Patriots are going to destroy the Colts, like 42-13. I hate the Patriots but I kinda do wanna see them go 16-0 right now for some reason. If they can get past the Colts I feel like there is no way they won't go 16-0 unless they sit their starters but I feel like they won't even do that because Belichick is such a fucking dick, which is a good thing.
Also Kellen Clemens, thank god. At least now it is not going to be painful to watch the Jets because at least we can watch Clemens "mature" and whatnot instead of the freaking disgustingly horrible boring offense that has been there the past 3 years.

I give them respect, I just don't see how anyone stops this offense... and RP's idea of "we'll blitz brady" this is one of the best OL's in the league, sure you may hit him once or twice, he gets right up, the other times he's going to pick you apart...
can't wait till sunday.
I never said the Colts would blitz brady, but apparently thats my idea. OK

my bad I took this
there wont be many deep passes once Brady drops back and gets blown up by Freeney or Mathis. Mark my words. First time it happens its gunna be a sack and then its over. OVER
to be reffering to blitzing not just a standard pass rush.
my bad.

ok, this whole "they ran up the score by going for in on 4th down" is getting silly, Even Joe Gibbs said so after the game.
Now, here are your options, kick a field goal which is a pretty good chance of putting points on the board, or have your backup QB throw to your 3rd string TE (or wait, wasn't it the 3rd string RB?) at which point even if you get it you didn't score and the other team still has a chance to stop them before the endzone.
I wonder why no one said this of the Colts in 2004?

I'm sure if those teams were running up the score, something would have been said. There's a difference between blowing teams out and running up the score. I don't remember most of those games specifically but I'm pretty sure most of those points were scored in the first 3 quarters and then they started running out the clock.

My problem with them running up the score is this:
They are up 38-0 late in the 4th. They have proven that they are the better team and, more importantly, the other team is not capable of stopping them. They won't stop them because they can't do it. Not just running the clock and trying to end the game at the point just shows disrespect to the other team. You've destroyed them, their defense cannot match up against you. Now just end the game.

I think that is more of a testament to the Patriots being that far above everyone else in the league. The only way anyone can beat the Pats this season is in a shootout, the team with the best chance to win one: The Colts.

It's kinda ridiculous that there is only one team that might beat the Pats. I honestly think the Pats are winning by 14 at least.

November 14th 2004- Manning had 5 touchdowns through 3 quarters. The Colts scored 2 defensive touchdowns including one in the 4th quarter by Von Hutchins. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/recaps/20041114/houind.html
November 21st 2004 - Manning had 3 of his 4 touchdowns in the first half. Manning only passed for 211 yards the whole game. Edgerin James ran for 204 yards that game and they were both rested in the 4th quarter. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/recap?gid=20041121003
November 25th 2004- "The Colts replaced Manning with Jim Sorgi late in the third quarter. Otherwise, the QB would have had a shot at tying the NFL record of seven touchdown passes in a game, shared by five players: Sid Luckman, Adrian Burk, George Blanda, Y.A. Tittle and Joe Kapp. " http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/recap?gid=20041125008
December 5th 2004 - The Titans tried 3 onside kicks and a fake field goal in this game. . At the end of the first half, the score was 31-24 Colts. It was 41-24 in the 4th quarter. Manning was sat in the 4th quarter after his last touchdown which put them up 48-24. Need i remind you, they kicked 3 onside kicks and faked field goals all game long? http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/recap?gid=20041205011
Needless to say, i posted all the recaps for you. There's nothing talking about the Colts running up the score infact it was the opposite. Every single game Manning and the starters were benched in the 4th. Its really really easy to go back through schedules and pick out the biggest point differntials and point fingers at them and say they were running up the score, just to justify your team doing it. Obviously that wasnt the case. Good thing all this info is still available to obtain, incase someone tries to twist the facts.

the Miami game, down 21 points with almost a whole qtr left isn't a blow out anymore, look at the AFC championship game, Pats kicked the Colts ass in the 1st half... but the game wasn't over.
The Redskins game, it was the backup QB and yeah, I want him running plays, I want my backup to get as much real-game experience as he can incase my starting QB gets injured.
Anyway, can't wait for sunday.

The Dolphins game can be looked at from different ways. I tend to think that its pretty safe to call off the dogs when somone named Lemon is QBing them and they dont have there starting running back anymore.
The Redskins game was obviously running up the score. I laughed cause Belichek said something like " Do you want us to kick a field goal? " when asked about going for it on 4th down while being up 38-0. I'm thinking " No dumbshit, thats why you employ a punter! ". But thats me being biased i guess.

They didn't really run up the score against Dallas. They needed to keep scoring the entire game. Then when they were up 41-27, they just kinda ran one in.

You are comparing those teams to this years' Pats. The comparison is ridiculous. The argument is that New England has been running up the score... those teams obviously weren't. I don't know how posting scores from other teams who have blown their opponents out proves anything really. No one's arguing "you play the game"... it's what you do once you have the game wrapped up.

<font color=goldenrod>Yeah the NFL's overtime is such bullshit.
They don't need to make it like college and have each team start on the 25 or any of that, but they need to at least give the other team a chance to have the ball if one team scores on the first possession. And if they go 4 and out/miss a FG/turn the ball over, it's over. So unfair that the whole game can come down to a fucking coin flip.</font>

Fuck sportsmanship in professional sports.
Pretty much my feeling, you're paid to play a sport, this isn't highschool or little league, you're a well paid profesional athlete, if you don't like it, stop it... you can't, that's your fault.
Especially in most cases we're talking about 2nd and 3rd string players going against starters. If you can't stop a guy who couldn't make your team you should apologize to your fans, no cry about "running up the score"
That being said, I don't think the Pats were intentionally trying to run up the score in any of the games.
Yea right after the Cowboys game I wasn't quite sure they ran up the score. But now it is blatanly obvious.
You're kidding right? You do realise the Pats couldn't run out the clock because the Cowboys used their final timeouts in an attempt to get the ball back? I mean, while I disagree with it I can see the argument made in the Redskins game, but they "ran up the score" on the cowboys? now you're being silly. Also, keep in mind as Stima pointed out the RB who scored was a 3rd string practice squad guy and it was thought at the time might be the only TD he ever gets (like Vinny getting to throw a TD last year, or Flutie drop-kicking the year before)
As for the Phins, 21 points, almost the whole 4th qtr left, Brady back in, puts it out of reach and then takes a seat for the rest of the game.
The Skins, we're talkijg about Matt Cassell, this guy wouldn't be the 2nd QB on most teams and some not even the 3rd. The Redskins Defense which is considered good this year couldn't stop Matt Cassell on 4th down. Could they have punted the ball into the end zone? sure... but why just give the ball away? Why not take advantage of a rare chance to have your backup QB get some ingame live experience.
RP - are you biased? sure, a little, same way I am and most people who favor their hometown team, we have more info about your home team then anyone else due to local coverage and you dislike your rivals. But while I disagree with you most of the time you back it up and have never tried to argue Indy's offense based on their madden raitings :D
Hey, if Indy's spanks the Pats 70-0 this weekend good for them, I just don't see it happening, I admit I'm doing what I never do which is count the Colts out, I just don't see how anyone stops this Offense and to get in a shoot-out you have to destroy this defense which is one of the best.
I think it will be a good game, but in the end I see the Pats by at least 10 points.
I also think this roll continues, I don't think they go undefeated, something will happan, but I think Brady shatters the QB records and takes league MVP. Which will bring back a fun off season debatone of Brady vs. Manning. :p

What happens if the Colts actually do play the Patriots in the playoffs? I think ESPN has burned through all there ColtsvPats material for the next 3 years.
