Saddened that I didn't get the Packers and Aaron Rodgers though

Theres a reason why he still isn't in Baltimore too.
While Im here, John Harbaugh/Joe Flacco/Ray Rice are the first HC/QB/RB combo in NFL History to make the playoffs in their first two years in the league.

Well first of all, the defense has turned over a great deal since Billick was in Baltimore. And Id say more important was Cam Cameron coming in to overhaul the offense which was run by Brian "Im a freaking Offensive Genius, remember what I did in Minnesota in 1998!" Billick. He ran (by proxy) the worst offense imaginable ever which was why there was so much pressure put on the defense to be so great. The offense finished in the top 15 one time in his tenure (2001) and also finished 31st in 2004.
John Harbaugh has the same winning percentage (.625 over few games granted..) as Billick as well..
As for the rumor:
Former Baltimore Ravens (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/bal/;_ylt=Aj_fJRAyhV9sFXtJ_bVUWd0.ubYF) coach Brian Billick may not have the Buffalo Bills (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/buf/;_ylt=ApA4cybcOA9LDwu8TQRkdi4.ubYF) coaching job yet, but Buffalo’s NBC television news affiliate WGRZ reports Billick is in the process of putting together a staff to join him.
An unidentified source told WGRZ that Billick contacted Jacksonville Jaguars (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/jac/;_ylt=Aq29zPqURPo7mav3tFPdlqg.ubYF) assistant head coach/tight ends coach Mike Tice about the possibility of joining the Bills staff if Billick gets the job.
Former NFL head coach Marty Schottenheimer told the station Monday that he is "not likely" to become coach of the Bills. Earlier Schottenheimer was rumored to be the leading candidate to succeed Dick Jauron.

If Favre wins, Wisconsin (and Indiana) riots. Peyton Manning showed just how valuable he is with how crappy the Colts were without him. The Vikings were still a playoff team without Favre last season. My top 5 (not sure how many places they vote for):
1. Manning (If you're going on value...without Manning, the Colts are no good)
2. Chris Johnson (Hard to argue with 2,000 yards rushing and the most yards from scrimmage ever)
3. Drew Brees (Same reasons as Manning; the Saints would sputter without him)
4. Aaron Rodgers (Identical stats compared to Favre, but did it with less)
5. Brett Favre (Very good season, but arguably not even the MVP of his team's offense)
Crimson

I disagree with what you're saying about Favre. I think he pretty much IS the Vikings offense.
With that , I think Peyton should be MVP followed by Favre, Brees, and Rodgers

lol at people saying the Colts suck without Manning without even looking at the situation. You can't possibly compare 'replacing' Manning (as in, finding a QB to take his position permanently), to subbing in a third string, 6th round draft, ROOKIE QB for Manning. Any rookie QB is going to fail when put into that situation, especially when his main weapons are pulled and the other team is fighting for their spot in the playoffs.
That's hardly the same thing at all.
That said, they do still rely heavily on him, and he should get MVP for his performance this season. Minus one or two 'off' games where he's thrown a few picks, he was playing at the top of his game.

I don't know why these teams go back to the same coaches to coach their teams. It's like those teams that sign Jeff Garcia as a free agent all the time. Brian Billick and Mike Holmgreen etc are just familiar sounding names. You may get a 10-6 team out of it, but the teams that go back to these older coaches have them for about three years then call it an unsuccessful tenure after they blow the playoffs in the last five games of the season for the second year in a row. They're just quick fixes.

Its probably a safer bet to chose someone with football/NFL experience as a head coach than a "rookie' head coach since you would have a feeling of their coaching style compared to the unknown of the rookie.
Not every coach is going to be like a Sean Payton and in his first year turn around the team but with a Holmgreen, there is history that says he knows how to develop a good QB and the offense for a while.
What does hurt is having an impatient owner/GM or fans if you take the tenured coach since if the team is horrible (ex. Browns, Lions), then your looking at around 3-5 years to rebuild the team. The fans being impatient makes some sense since they don't want to be paying just to see their team loosing all the time.
I'm not saying guys like Shanahan and Holmgreen aren't good coaches that can benefit a team, and in most situations you would be better off hiring someone like that instead of a random defensive backs coach from the Buffalo Bills. But if you look at teams that have won a Super Bowl in the last twenty years, or have een made the Super Bowl for that matter, you won't find many teams who got there with a "rebound coach". Hiring Bill Parcells, Joe Gibbs, or Jim Mora doesn't help your franchise in the long run. I guess it's better than being stuck with some doofus like Rod Marinelli and going 3-13, but chances are you are not going to be a realistic Super Bowl contender with a coach like that. It's good for short term hype really and nothing else.

Call me crazy, but is that not the very definition of valuable?
The fact that a QB consistently wins this awards is no surprise. And you honestly think that most QBs in the league are irreplaceable? Seriously, the fact that your fucking patriots went 11-5 with a back-up proves that is not the case. It is all about the system, and without Peyton the Colts system is dead in the water as they are honestly not nearly as good as their record indicates if given an "average" starting NFL QB.
He's gunna get it because he has the worst running game in the league behind him and he broke in 2 brand new recievers while torching the league.

First of all, Curtis Painter was put in two impossible situations ( He need Mike " THe Situation " tbh ). He was put into the Jets game and booed to hell because of the decision not to go for 16-0. Then he had to go on the road and play with the 3rd teamers in a snow storm. Now i dont know if you watched this game, but lets just say it's a good thing Indy has home field advantage, because they have no clue how to play on snow. It was terrible.
If Painter was playing in the dome under a good situation, with the 1st teamers, he'd be ok. He's a Boilermaker. He would be ok.

Snyder has been doing that for years and I really haven't seen much out of the 'Skins to show for it. To me there is a fine line between respecting your draftees and signing big name free agents. I don't think what Snyder does creates a healthy locker room as he leans too heavily on the free agency to the detriment of those who were drafted by the organization.

Again, replacing Manning isn't the same thing as having a 3rd string, 6th round, ROOKIE QB, stand in for him. Manning isn't the Colts. He is a large part of the Colts, but stop ignoring the fact that their top receivers and top rusher were taken out of the game. Addai, Clark, and Wayne are the team's top scorer's this season, in that order.
If you think your team, or any other team, would perform differently under those circumstances, then you're a fucking idiot and you're just talking out of your ass.

http://www.theonion.com/content/news/everyone_at_hospital_already_hates
BOSTON—Though injured New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker has only been in the hospital for five days, doctors, nurses, support staff, and fellow patients told reporters Thursday that the extremely passionate and determined Welker has already annoyed the hell out of everyone.
"That guy is just the worst," Welker's orthopedic surgeon Dr. Henry Myles said after a diagnostic checkup Tuesday. "He suffers a torn MCL and ACL in his left knee, he can barely walk, and he just keeps saying things like, 'When am I going to get back in there, doc?' and 'Just tape it up, I'll be fine.' This whole obsession with showing us how intense and driven he is 24 hours a day really has to stop."
"I get it, okay? The guy has a lot of heart," Myles added. "But yesterday we had to put him in restraints because he wouldn't stop trying to do jumping jacks. And before we could sedate him, his screams of 'I'm a competitor!' woke up the entire wing."
As of press time, Welker had not made a single friend at Massachusetts General. Although the wideout's attitude has been celebrated by sportswriters and fans alike as scrappy and overachieving, hospital personnel have described him as "exhausting," "intolerable," and "the most infuriating little cocksucker ever to walk God's green earth."
Even children in the hospital's cancer ward were irritated by Welker's Tuesday morning visit.
"The short man kept telling me to keep fighting and not to give up," said Jackie Geddings, 8, a leukemia patient in the hospital's pediatric ward. "I got extra tired talking to him and telling him over and over I was working hard and that he didn't have to cut off his hair and give it to me. I don't think he knew I was trying to take a nap."
"He's everywhere," one doctor said of the 5-foot-9 All-Pro receiver, adding that the mere sight of Welker's face fills him with rage. "If he's not trying to get patients up at 6 a.m. to do physical therapy with him, he's giving unwanted nutritional advice to diabetics or hovering over ER doctors during critical triage sessions. I really hope one of these days he comes over to the trauma ward so I can lay him out cold."
Welker told nurses Wednesday that, although his injury will keep him out of the playoffs, it shouldn't hinder his ability to help the hospital be the best it can be. He has offered to fill in anywhere he is needed, be it on the cafeteria staff or in the operating room.
"I consider myself a very patient person," hospital janitor Mike Clemens said. "But Mr. Welker has pushed me to my limit. He told me that my mopping routes were sloppy, and that if I maybe showed a little more heart out there I could get a few more crucial feet out of each swab."
"What a prick," Clemens added. "Seriously, what a fucking little prick."
Welker's hospital roommate, 52-year-old Aaron Kramer, requested a room transfer after spending just one night with the two-time Pro Bowler. Kramer said he was unable to sleep due to Welker shouting "Woo!" after every SportsCenter highlight, a nuisance that became increasingly excruciating as Welker did the same through all five of the show's overnight repeats.
Teammates who have visited Welker have left his hospital room visibly aggravated, often rolling their eyes, muttering to themselves, or saying things like, "Thank God that's over."
Patriots coach Bill Belichick has yet to make a trip to the Boston hospital, but said Monday that Welker had already left him more than 150 voice mail messages that alternated between tearful apologies for getting injured and personal pleas for Belichick not to forget about him while he's away.
"Apparently he read an article where I said that the team would evolve without him," Patriots quarterback Tom Brady told reporters after visiting Welker. "I had to assure Wes that didn't mean I thought the team was better off without him or that I didn't like him personally."
"I don't, though," Brady said. "Not hard to see why not. Jesus, if that mouthy little fucker didn't manage to get open so often I think I would have punched him in the face years ago."

They went from having one of the greatest seasons ever to not even making the playoffs the next season with pretty close to the same roster.
They also had a really good back-up who is now a starter, not some bum like Chris Painter - who also happens to really be the Colts' 3rd string QB.

What? Coughlin, Dungy, Belichick, Gruden, Vermeil, and Shanahan are all rebound coaches and they've won 9 of the last 12 Super Bowls.
I'm not talking about coaches who have been head coaches before. 90% of all coaches have been head coaches before. I'm talking about coaches that haven't done anything in a while who get hired for their reputation alone. Tony Dungy was putting together good teams in Tampa Bay at the time, and Bill Belichick and Mike Shanahan didn't do anything before they went to New England/Denver. Tom Coughlin had been there for a while when they won it, Gruden was what he was. Dick Vermeil yeah. He is the only one I would put in that category though.

this thread should be sans Colts faggot fans. Worse than Pats Fans....
Bill Parcells and Joe Gibbs are the two best examples of this. Two coaches who were successful twenty years ago and everyone thinks that if teams hire these guys all of a sudden they will be in a Super Bowl in a year, when what actually happens is that they are there for a couple of seasons and they have one season where the team makes the playoffs before losing in the wild card round.
It's comparable to teams who sign Daunte Culpepper because they don't know what else to do. Yes, occasionally you have a year when Brad Johnson is the starting quarterback of a Super Bowl winning team, but that usually isn't the case 85% of the time.

The Indianapolis Colts' sensational quarterback romps to the award Saturday in balloting by 50 sports writers and broadcasters who cover the league. He gets 39½ votes to 7½ for Drew Brees as only quarterbacks receive any backing.
Manning adds the 2009 honors to the awards he won in 2003, 2004 and 2008, breaking a tie with Brett Favre at three MVPs.

I know the NFL says "the purpose of it is to open doors and give chances" but why not make the rule something like "All teams must interview somebody who has never been an NFL head coach" or something. Bringing race into it is stupid.
Why were the 49ers allowed to hire Mike Singletary for the full-time spot without interviewing somebody of a different race? Oh yeah, that's right...because it's not possible to be racist against white people.

Exactly. Cassel is failing right now because his receivers can't catch a ball. Have seen so many dropped passes this year from the Chiefs it is ridiculous. Well obviously he isn't gonna play as well because the Chiefs' team is no where near as good as the Patriots'. I don't think it's the same as watching the Colts play behind Painter or the Saints with Burenell. Neither of those guys have a chance of ever starting in the NFL in the future.
You don't think Cassell would have had a good year in the Colts system last year?
not as good as he did with NE
Reavant
01-09-2010, 03:11 PM
Exactly. Cassel is failing right now because his receivers can't catch a ball. Have seen so many dropped passes this year from the Chiefs it is ridiculous. Cassel is a decent QB who would probably do fairly well with a team to back him, as his performance with the Pats proves. But come on.. he's on the Chiefs and they're not going anywhere fast.
if you put manning in the chiefs offense i would bet they would be in the playoffs

You can't compare replacing Manning to the events that took place.. a 3rd string rookie QB...

It wouldn't have been that bad if EVERYONE who hated the Cowboys didn't act like Tony Romo would just never win a playoff game. But it was brought up and used as a burn on me and all Cowboys fans constantly that he, in so many words, CAN'T WIN IN DECEMBER OR THE PLAYOFFS. So now we can rub it in their faces. Regardless of what happens next week now, that statement made has come back to haunt all Cowboys haters.
Fuck me Braylon Edwards is bad. He'd going to cost the Jets either in the next round or the AFC Championship. Mark that down. The guy shits himself when he's open with no one in front of him and the ball falling right in his hands. How can you make it this far in the league as a reciever and still be a #1 and suck that fucking bad. Fuck me. Both excited and nervous for the Green Bay game today -- there's so much more riding on it than meets the eye. It would be embarrassing to be the only team to lose one of the three "repeat" games this week after winning last week, and if the Packers lose all the fake Vikings fans that only became "fans" because they're following Favre are going to have a field day (even though it's pretty clear that the Packers wouldn't be any better off with Favre).
Even if they win, I'm worried about going to New Orleans. Despite their recent problems and not trying to win for the past month, they're still too good of a team to go down 4 straight games without a fight. The thought of Drew Brees abusing Jarrett Bush and the rest of the Packers' secondary not named Charles Woodson scares the crap out of me (not the case with Warner, since he's old and slow and is about to get rocked by Clay Matthews).
As far as other teams go, the Cowboys are definitely impressive, and I'd love nothing more than to see Favre continue his struggles against Dallas, but at the same time it wouldn't surprise me to see them fall short of the Super Bowl. They strike me as the kind of team that's about to get a little too full of themselves, and I still don't have confidence in Wade Phillips' ability to keep their eyes on the prize.

I think the Jets have a good formula, it has proven to work for teams in the past. I just think that eventually they are going to get into trouble if an opposing team can stifle, or even just make their running game less successful. Once Sanchez has to try to beat a team I think that is where they lose.

Has there ever been a triple over time in post season? I am assuming they do not end on a tie like they do in the regular season.
This must be a Syracuse thing.
Wow. Can't believe he missed that kick.

Wow. What a lame win. Don't care about either team, but Packers got fucked by the refs.
No call on that head to head, OR the facemasking on that final play.

Guess it wasn't really facemasking after a second glance, but the head to head might have fucked them.

<font color=goldenrod>Holy shit @ the Cards/Packers game...that saved the weekend. The only other game that was even remotely close was Jets/Bengals, and even that was pretty boring to watch.
Cards also saved me from going 0-4 in predictions</font>

What? Not at all. It's probably more relief at not having to even see look at Patriots for the rest of the playoffs.

:wavesad: Packers. You gave your fans one hell of a good reason to expect more great things next year.
Gotta hope like hell the Vikes go in and beat the Cowgays next week, or failing that that we see, dare I say, Arizona win, only because they're playing one of the only two teams I can't stand in this year's playoffs in a divisional...New Orleans...yecch!
Also, I totally agree with that announcer that I'm glad the NFL overtime system is nothing like college ball, or else who the fuck knows how long the Pack and Cards would've been duking it out.

Patriots fans just proved how fair weather they are today. Unable to fill the stands for a play off game and booing your team in the first quarter. I guess you have to win at least 12 games and a deep play off run for some support up there
