I can't fucking root for the Bills any more. I always pull for them whenever they're playing some fucking monster team like the Patriots or something. But I just can't bring myself to root for a Terrel Owens team.

They still have good enough players to be decent, Delhomme hasn't been the same last 2 years though.

Bills and Bengals is more mental than skills since when they can win, they give it away. I would include the Lions but they need to win more to get that type of bad luck.

The thing is, Delhomme has never been a great QB in my opinion. I've never wanted him. The only reason he looks good is because he's always had playmakers around him. Smith, Mus, Foster, Davis, now Stewart and Williams. Those guys don't need a great QB, they need someone that can put the ball near the wide receivers because Smith can go get it if it's within 10 yards and that opens your run game. The problem is, he hasn't even been a DECENT QB in 2 years.

Evil Vito
09-14-2009, 10:33 PM
Yeah, Steve Smith single handedly makes Delhomme look great. They only time Jake has a good statistical day is when Smith does as well.

Still can't believe how the Pats-Bills game ended. I was saying the whole time how the bills needed to make it an 11 point game to have enough of a cushion, and then mr. dick decides hes going to try and take one to the house as an exclamation point. Seriously, why else would you take that ball out of the end zone unless you saw a realistic chance of going all the way? The desire for personal glory defeats solid , smart football yet again. It's going to be a hell of a season.

Emperor Smeat
09-15-2009, 12:54 AM
I don't think its Norv Turner's fault this time. Chargers are too flat and unfocused. You have Phillip Rivers basically rattled by Oakland's D and the running game not doing much. Its only close because Chargers D is still holding off the Raiders and Raiders offense is still average to bad when they need points.

How would you feel if your boss said Hey I'd rather have someone else do your job and if the price is right I'll get rid of you, but since we didn't get what we want I guess we'll just stick with you? I'd be pissed and I'd want out of the organization too.

I've actually dealt with something similar at an old job of mine. The chef who hired me eventually set me to be a kitchen lead after a few months. But when he quit and the new chef came in, he saw fit to bring in his own crew and fire some of the original staff. Lost my position, almost all the way down to dishwasher, but I understood why he'd do that. Sucked, but it's a business and the new chef was just trying to do what he thought it took to not eventually get fired. The turnover at that lace was insane, in the 2 1/2 years it's been open. It's had a new GM on average every 3 MONTHS, so he was right to be worried. And he did eventually get fired.

Now, while not exactly the same thing, they're similar enough. McDaniels just wanted (and with guys like Jordan, Gaffney, Hochstein, Smith, he did) to bring in his own guys. What commitment did McDaniels have to Cutler? He didn't draft him. Now if Dennison the OC or someone had been promoted from within and tried to trade him, I could understand Jay being upset. Those were his guys, and he'd have felt stabbed in the back.

When someone new with completely different ideas comes in, you need to be ready for anything. Regardless of what business you're in. A new boss means NO ONE is safe, especially if his star guy (let alone one he created) is available.

As for Cutler not meeting with McDaniels, how is that a negative against Cutler? He didn't want to play for McDaniels anymore so what obligation does Cutler have to have go to some meeting that isn't going to solve anything?Cutler was at first upset because Shanahan was fired, and cried publicly about it before McDaniels was even interviewed. Josh was screwed before he got hired. Whether McDaniels, Spagnuolo or Frazier was the HC, Cutler was going to cry. Then after they tried to trade him, he wanted a contract as a sign of commitment. And like I said, anytime McD tried to meet with him in regards to that, he no showed, sent his agent while he stayed in Indiana or simply refused.

After that is when Bowlen tried to step in. Jay ignored his calls and never returned any texts. No matter who you are or what you do for a living, never a good idea to disrespect the guy who signs your checks like that.

A couple days later, Cutler was gone.

While I totally understand Jay being upset, he ultimately carried on about it like a little bitch. The NFL is a multi-billion dollar business that few are lucky enough to be PAID to play. Get the fuck over your hurt ego and play. If Coach doesn't like you and wants someone else, you play your ass off and prove him wrong. You don't take a flight back home and not answer the boss' calls.

DAM, thats like 3rd or 4th time in the opening week of NFL that a long bomb breaks up a close game assuming Raiders can hold off for the win.

Assuming Raiders can hold on, that would join Packers, Broncos, and Patriots for long bomb TDs to win a game. Pitt could have joined the list had Hines Ward not fumble the ball in late 4th.

Im doing a 5 team parlay this week which pays 17:1

Colts -3.5 @ Dolphins
Seahawks +2.5 @ 49ers
Cardinals +3.5 @ Jaguars
Falcons - 6.5 vs Panthers
Packers -9.5 vs Bengals

Im not touching Vikings/Lions or Rams/Redskins with a 10 foot pole (conveniently the same # of points the Skins/Vikings are favored). The Rams beat the Redskins last year on the road and I could see it happening again. Favre tends to struggle vs the Lions and its in Detroit which adds to the fun. There are a couple games still not on the board but I think those 5 are all I need.

Tampa is +4.5 @ Buffalo now on the board...I kinda like that better than Arizona but Im not sold on the whole "Arizona can't win on the road" thing because that was last year and they facing a pretty bad Jacksonville team.

I dont think Tampa is that bad and Buffalo isn't going to put up #'s like Romo and the Cowboys did.

Bruins have been decent this decade, 3 good years so far (last year & the 2 consecutive years they were in the top 2-3 in the East), a bunch of average years, and maybe 2 bad years. Last season was probably 1st time they actually felt like a championship worthy team this decade.

Apparently Redskins going to court for possibly the last time over their use of "Redskins" as a team name. Some Native American group that's been fighting since 1992 to have the team change its name wants the Supreme Court to decide if the name defames Native Americans.

It probably should be changed. I've always personally believed that naming a team after a group of people was fine, but if the group found it offensive, then the name should be changed.

Really funny reading comments about this though. People don't seem to understand why the term Redskin would be offensive. I wonder how they'd react to a team called the Brownskins.

Even if the Native American group wins this case, the Redskins don't have to change their name. They'll just lose the federal trademark.

But seeing as Dan Snyder is the greedy asshole that he is, he'll probably change the name so he can get a federal trademark.

NFL holding off on suspending the Saints' Will Smith, Charles Grant
By Brett Martel (CP) – 17 hours ago
METAIRIE, La. — The NFL has decided against enforcing four-game suspensions of Charles Grant and Will Smith at this time, opening the way for the New Orleans Saints' starting defensive ends to play this week and possibly the whole 2009 season.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said it would be unfair to suspend the two Saints players now, when the league has been blocked from suspending two Vikings players for the same offence while their case is pending in Minnesota state court.
"This situation presents several unique and narrow aspects that I believe call for us to put the good of the game ahead of questions of discipline," Goodell said. "Considerations of fairness, uniform application of our policies, and competitive integrity all support deferring the suspensions at this time," Goodell said. "I am not prepared to treat players differently when the same conduct is involved."
The four players, along with former Saints running back Deuce McAllister, all fought their suspensions last season after they tested positive for the banned diuretic bumetanide, which can be used to mask the presence steroids.
The players argued that the league knew bumetanide had been detected in the over-the-counter weight-loss supplement, StarCaps, but failed to notify players who were using it. Bumetanide was not a listed ingredient in the product.
David Cornwell, an attorney for the players, said in statement that Smith, Grant and McAllister "appreciate Commissioner Goodell's decision not to suspend them for unknowingly ingesting a banned diuretic."
"We are particularly grateful for the commissioner's sensitivity to the fairness issue," Cornwell continued. "This has been a challenging process for everyone. While the NFLPA and the NFL must now work together to resolve the unintended, broader issue of conflicting state laws, DeMaurice Smith's support for Deuce, Will, and Charles was invaluable and is greatly appreciated."
The NFL Players Association sued on the players' behalf in federal court in Minnesota, delaying enforcement of the suspensions beyond the end of last season.
In May, U.S. District Judge Paul Magnuson dismissed the NFLPA's lawsuit and several claims in the Williamses' case - then sent two claims involving Minnesota workplace laws back to state court.
Last Friday, a three-judge panel of the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals agreed with Magnuson's decisions. Goodell said the NFL will vigorously contest the remaining state law claims in the case.
The commissioner also said he hoped the players union would begin working with the league to resolve the matter now that federal courts "have rejected the NFLPA's improper challenge to our collectively bargained program."
"We hope the union will join us in ensuring that these principles of fairness and uniformity are preserved," Goodell said. "The union's unfortunate refusal to do so thus far has created needless uncertainty for our program. This is an important issue not only for the NFL, but for all sports and everyone who cares about the integrity of sports competition."
A phone message left with the NFLPA's main office in Washington, D.C., was not immediately returned. The Saints also did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Players had the day off on Tuesday and were scheduled to return to practice on Wednesday and play at Philadelphia on Sunday.

What I've been thinking Goodell should do since the Vikes DT's got out of it..

Just hope it doesn't come back to bite us in the ass like the last quarter of the season..

Steelers | Clark unsure if he will play against Denver

Ed Bouchette, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports Pittsburgh Steelers FS Ryan Clark said he is not sure if he will play in the road game against the Denver Broncos November 9th because the altitude affected him greatly physically the last time he traveled to Denver. The altitude caused a reaction in his blood that attacked his spleen, which made him lost his spleen and gall bladder.

lol. He could have worded that so differently. Sanchez showed a lot of potential last week. Obviously he's no Tom Brady but don't just come out and say it. lol. "We've got a rookie QB that's learning the ropes still and isn't Tom Brady" would suffice. Just a horrible thing to say. lol.

Marshall had a manditory meeting with the media. He decided to answer like this:

So, Brandon, did you have any making up to do with your teammates upon your return?

"This week, in preparing for Cleveland, it’s going to be tough and we know that," Marshall said. "We’re going to do our best to give it our best shot."

So how close are you to being back to your Pro Bowl form?

"I think Coach (Eric) Mangini is doing a great job with the guys, getting them to do what they’re supposed to do, doing their job, and it’s making it tough on opposing offenses," Marshall said.

The only time Marshall spoke directly to a question was when he said he was completely healthy. Marshall had hip surgery in the offseason and missed a couple of weeks of training camp with a hamstring injury.

"I think I was 100 percent a long time ago," Marshall said.

After a public relations staffer announced that there was one more question before the locker room was closed, Marshall decided he didn’t have time for another answer.

"All right," Marshall said, walking away after the question was done

I signed up on NFL.com to be able to comment on videos and whatnot.. I figured it's be pretty good discussion, but really, it's worse than most message boards I've ever been too.. People are completely bias, talking shit, without even watching game or highlights to base their opinions on.. Pretty terrible, but kinda entertaining at the same time..

Some people are pretty cool and knowledgeable, but all these Philly fans keep bringing up our "horrible defense" just b/c the Lions hung 27 on us.. If they had actually watched the game, looked at the box score, or even watched the highlights, they'd know that all of those points came from bad kick coverage and turnovers.. We eliminate just a few of those kind of mistakes and we will win by double digits, even if McNabb was healthy..

I respect the Eagles D, but they really did nothing on Offense.. Kolb is gonna come in and get ate up by Vilma and Sharper.. He'll prolly throw 2 or 3 picks in the first quarter, then Reid will put in Garcia.. Now I realize Gracia is a West Coast Offense guy and use to play under that system, but with completely different receivers.. He's had what, two days of practice?? It takes ALOT longer than that to get timing down which is what puts up big numbers in the air.. No way he steps in and saves the day after it's 17-0 at the end of the first.. He'll do honorable, but I just feel like they will be playing from behind after Kolb leaves the field and our new REVAMPED D is gonna ballhawk.. That added with the little practice time for Garcia = more INTs.. Eagles only hope is Westbrook running for like 350 yards and 4 TD's which I really don't see happening.. I'm really looking forward to this game cause it's really gonna test our Offensive weapons against an elite Defense..

I think it was Pardon the Interruption where they talked about how NFL and College Football fans are starting to become like European/S. American fans in terms of fanaticism and extreme emotional attachment to the games. Not soo much the good kind of fanatics but more of using the Bills incident to show its beginning to rise to "hooligan" levels.

I was sorta worried with LT being out that Sproles will have a bust out game, but then I remembered its been 36 games (December of 06, and even further before that for another 100 yard rusher) since the Ravens last gave up 100 yards rushing to a single player. His kick returns do scare me a bit though. The Chargers are really banged up too and the Ravens luckily managed to stay clear of any serious injuries vs KC. Going into the season this was one of 4 key non steeler games (along with Indy/NE/Denver) that would go a long way in deciding if they'd have a shot at the playoffs, so its good feeling at least right now how things are shaping up vs SD.

Its also kinda sad that SD hasn't sold out their home opener yet and it could get blaked out in SD.

Rod Smith was just on Vic and Gary just now said Brandon handled his interview perfectly. Smith said don't give the media the opporuntiy to spin your words.

Other items:

Shannon Sharpe called Smith this weekend and said Brandon's body lanague is terrible and needs to work on the swagger and his smile.

Rod's hip bothered him for 3 years so he doesn't know how Brandon's hip is efffecting him

"Whatever is wrong with Brandon" we will get it fixed - Rod Smith

So Marshall gets to be schooled by Rod Smith AND Shannon Sharpe? No reason why he shouldn't pick up on something to better himself. I knew they'd talked with him on the phone, didn't think they were gonna keep mentoring him though

Yeah this year's trash talking is already more intense than last year before their 1st meeting. Last year it was all about how Farve would destroy the Patriots and lead Jets to division title. Jets ended up loosing that game and A.D. ended up doing the "2 for 1" sack of Farve and Leon Washington in 1 play.

I'm thinking it's gonna be a close matchup. I kinda have a feeling though that the Cowboys will be able to explot the Giants' secondary, unlike the Redskins. If they do that, they'll force the Giants to match and turn it into a high scoring game, which the Cowboys are unfortunately much better suited for offensively. But if they can get some key turnovers/sacks and Jacobs allows the Giants to control the clock, I think they've got a great shot at spoiling the opening of the Palace of Jerry.

I was just under the impression that you basically got a clean shot to catch it with no interference. If you bobbled it or whatever, the ball was fair game. Im gonna go on a limb right now and say that the Ravens are the best team in the AFC. Jets fans can come in here and spew about how they're 2-0 and they beat Football Jesus and whatever but the Ravens have scored 69 points in 2 games, the most in the AFC and 2nd most in the league behind the Saints (you gotta let that sink in real nice and slow). They just went into SD and with a terrible defensive effort by Ravens' Standards still managed to beat the Chargers on the road.

The Defense has been totally un-Raven like though (as has the offense for that matter!) but it will get better for sure.

Can't wait for 2 weeks when the Ravens go into NE and beat Football Jesus too. Its conceivable that the Ravens could start 5-0 going into the matchup @ Minnesota which will be epic with Adrian Peterson vs the Ravens defense...

not as great as their last game in their old stadium though, but still great.

watching other football games must be so enjoyable when your team wins... I really would not know what that's like.

Meh I dunno I'm a Panther fan and I'm still enjoying it.

Then again I am still riding a high from the Tarheel win yesterday, and the consolation win of the 49ers... so I dunno.

Get at me if 2 out of the three or all three lose.

If they count the people watching it on tvs outside they should go ahead and count the SNF Audience #'s too while they're at it.

The stupid thing is we get to sit through all this crap again next Monday because MNF is Panthers vs Cowboys, and you know ESPN will do NBC probably 2 or 3 times worse for the stadium crap.

Going to be a suck year for me as a Bucs fan. Don't think we can win either of our games against the Saints or the Falcons. Maybe can pull one out against Carolina but I'm sure we'll be last in the division this year. :wavesad:
