<font color=goldenrod>Wait...what? Saints and Drew Brees agree to a contract restructure, freeing up around $2.5 million in cap space this year but bumping his cap hit next year to about $30 million, highest in the league.

So they decided it was important to save money on this year's cap despite the season basically already being in the toilet (0-3 with 2 division rivals already at 3-0) than it was to just eat the money now and give themselves more flexibility for next year.

Dumb.</font>

<font color=goldenrod>I was very impressed with what I saw from the Giants yesterday. Yes the Bills shot themselves in the foot with a ton of penalties, but the defense actually looked really good.

They'd be 4-0 right now if not for those 4th quarter meltdowns but regardless things have broken the right way for them to pull ahead and build a lead in the division. Need to keep doing what they're doing and avoid the letdown game vs. SF next week.</font>

<font color=goldenrod>also re: Forte, not sure how much of a help he'd be. He'd be an improvement to the current roster certainly, but I think Jennings/Vereen/Williams are a good trio and the fact that they haven't been able to get a whole lot going speaks more to the O-line's lack of run blocking ability than anything else.</font>

Also supposedly the Fins practice squad hates Ryan Tannehill.
On Saturday during practice, [Ryan] Tannehill, after a couple of practice squad players forced turnovers, Tannehill made negative comments toward them, including saying: “Enjoy your practice squad paycheck, enjoy your practice squad trophy.”

Sources say this has been going on for the past few weeks as the practice squad players have been intercepting Tannehill and frustrating the former Texas A&M wide receiver turned quarterback.

They were practically begging for another meltdown yesterday. Up by 14 inside Buffalo's 10 yard line with just under 4 minutes left. Run the ball, run time off and kick a field goal to go up by 3 scores and you essential kill any chance of a comeback. Instead they call a pass... and Eli throws a pick. lolwhat

Seems like the NFL doesn't want the Rams to stay in St. Louis based on recent stuff trying to keep the team in the city. Mostly in regards to a possible naming rights deal for a new stadium having a lower payout fee than they'd like or dwarfed by whatever a LA team would get instead.

NFL already cleared a possible stepping stone for a move to LA by having the Rams owner tweak his ownership of teams in other leagues. NFL has rules against cross-ownership if those teams are in different cities.

National Car Rental secured the naming rights to the proposed riverfront stadium in St. Louis on Wednesday, pledging $158 million over 20 years. The agreement hinges on an NFL team -- the city is fighting to keep the Rams -- playing in the venue.

The move wasn't well-received by some in the NFL, however. They were puzzled that the deal was announced while league owners were meeting and didn't view the $7.9-million per year accord as particularly lucrative.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones jabbed the deal in a conversation with the Sports Business Journal, saying the amount "would buy a lobby" in an L.A. stadium.

The last time naming rights were sold for a proposed NFL stadium, Farmers Insurance pledged $700 million over 20 years for AEG's project in downtown L.A.

AEG abandoned the project -- known as Farmers Field -- earlier this year.

Neither of the current proposed stadiums in L.A. have sold naming rights.

FBI and Justice Department recently opened probes against Draft Kings, Fan Duels, and other daily fantasy betting sites.

The [Wall Street] Journal says there is an “ongoing discussion” within the DOJ regarding the legality of daily fantasy, and whether it actually exempt from the Uniform Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.

The New York Attorney General has already asked the two most prominent daily fantasy sites, DraftKings and FanDuel, to turn over heaps of documents, in addition to inquiries from the Massachusetts Attorney General, two congressional committees, and a federal agency.

Continuing their tone deaf public posturing, DraftKings responded to the Journal by blaming the media for their recent problem

It should be exempt. It follows the guidelines.

1. It is not dependent on one team wins, loss, or score. Every game can effect what happens in Fantasy football.
2. It based on knowledge and skill rather than luck of the draw, roll, or spin.

Nevads recently ruled Draft Kings, Fan Duels, and other daily fantasy betting sites are considered as legal gambling. All got banned in the state until they get a gambling license.

May or may not end up playing a role in the FBI and Justice Department's probes into those sites and their gambling status. NFL rumored to be a possible target in the probes because of their sponsored ties with those websites.

Not surprised since the NFL made it clear when the original decision was made they were appealing. Today just made it official but think the appeal case won't happen till after the season anyways.

NFL would be foolish to want it rushed since the judge already hinted if it goes back to him, the NFL will still lose. Appeals Court is only going to remove the precedent part of his decision and not actually rule in favor of the NFL.

NFL and police investigating claims made by former Bears Jeremiah Ratliff about considering doing a mass shooting at the Bears training facility prior to getting released by the team.

Former Chicago Bears defensive lineman Jeremiah Ratliff said he "felt like killing everybody" at the team facility the day before he was released by the Bears, according to a police report.

Ratliff also called himself "the devil" and said he wanted staff members' children to die, the report said.

On Oct. 21, reporters observed Ratliff and general manager Ryan Pace having an animated conversation in front of the Bears' Halas Hall facility around 11:30 a.m. CT while the rest of the team was on the practice field. Multiple sources confirmed the Bears asked Ratliff to leave the facility because they felt he was not in the proper condition to work that day. Sources added that Ratliff later returned to the building several times before leaving for good ...

Ratliff, who was believed to have owned "multiple firearms," was described in the report as "very angry and irrational."

Not sure if its worthy of the -gate tag but Buggate might be the newest gate in the NFL depending on how much it spreads.

Supposedly the Jets were a bit paranoid about their lockeroom going into the Pats game at Gillette stadium and asked the NFL for it to be swept to find any "bugs" or listening devices.

Pats responded by saying they have asked the NFL for a while to sweep visiting teams locker rooms since they think teams are either trying to plant their own bugs to blame the Pats or defuse the growing paranoia the league has.

NFL themselves revealed they do random sweeps of lockerooms from time to time during the season but didn't do it this time just because the Jets requested it. Nor did they sweep it because the Pats asked.

Concerns regarding the presence of bugs in Gillette Stadium locker rooms aren’t new; it was one of the main points made last month in an article from Sports Illustrated regarding suspicions about the Patriots. No listening devices ever have been found in any locker rooms in the Patriots stadium.

As one source has explained it to PFT, the Patriots have become concerned that a team eventually will plant bugs on its own and claim that the Patriots put them there. This has prompted the Patriots to ask the league to certify before each game that the visiting locker room is clean before an opposing team enters. Per the source, the NFL has declined to do this.

http://www.mlive.com/business/detroit/index.ssf/2015/10/pontiac_silverdome_to_be_demol.html

PONTIAC, MI — The Pontiac Silverdome will be torn down in 2016.

According to a report from the Detroit Free Press, the owner of the 127-acre property the old home of the Detroit Lions sits on has decided to knock the stadium down to make the land easier to sell.

Over the summer, the stadium went up for sale for around $30 million. CBRE realtor Robert Mihelich told MLive, at the time, the number was flexible, though.

The current owner is Toronto-based Triple Properties, a development company run by Andreas Apostolopoulos and his son, Steve Apostolopoulos.

They purchased the Silverdome for $583,000 in 2009 — less than 1 percent of the initial $55.7 million it cost to build in 1975 — and are reneging on a commitment to redevelop the former Detroit Lions stadium.

A broker with CBRE told the Free Press on Thursday that "It is going to come down..."

The decision is dictated by feedback received while trying to sell the building.

The owners in February launched a design competition, soliciting redevelopment ideas from the general public. The contest deadline was April 12, and the winner who presented the best idea was scheduled to be announced in May or June, according to the contest website, which is still active.

The Silverdome property has a 2014 assessed market value of about $2.1 million, according to the Oakland County Assessor's Office.

Recently, it's only been crumbling.

The Free Press reports the Silverdome will begin going through the demolition process this spring.

Kind of sad, really...the place where Joe Montana won his 1st Super Bowl and where WrestleMania III happened will soon be gone.

Probably not a shock though, given the way the building was treated since it closed to events.

Funny how they had games in England before Canada. Isn't it ronic?

<font color=goldenrod>looking pretty much like every Giants/Saints game in the dome. Brees is just effortlessly connecting on one deep pass after another.</font>

I have no faith in the Saints/Drew Brees not shitting the bed here...

They won't, Goants have some mental thing about Brees in New Orleans

That was when the Saints/Brees were good at home.

Nowadays they have a knack for giving games away. Doing things like... throwing bad INTs in the opponent's territory in the second half of a close game.

Oh hey, look at that.

<font color=goldenrod>That game is just about over. Only reason the Giants were able to make up a 2 score deficit is because they had the benefit of getting the ball twice in a row via halftime.</font>

<font color=goldenrod>Not much doubt that this is going to end on an Eli INT. Too much has gone right for him today.</font>

Miss it I need Sneed to get a few more meaningful points and the game winning TD in OT.

<font color=goldenrod>only thing I don't get...the facemask was the right call, but the refs had huddled and said no penalty. How did they then huddle again and suddenly decide to change it? Based on the crowd reaction they probably showed the replay on the video board but the refs really aren't supposed to use that stuff as replays aren't subject to official review.

It's probably irrelevant anyway. Brees would have gotten his 8th TD in OT anyway. He wasn't going to be denied.</font>

Wish Dallas could find a backup QB who is only "sorta" bad.

Backups who are only sorta bad are starters elsewhere.
