The Bears have already signed Connor Barth as a replacement kicker.

Evil Vito

Meanwhile the Giants just made a really puzzling move. They released Jasper Brinkley who as of yesterday was scheduled to be their starting middle linebacker AND whose salary this year was fully guaranteed. And they signed QB Josh Johnson.

The Giants like most teams rarely ever carry 3 QBs on their roster to open the year, because you can always sign veteran QBs later in the year if needed and realistically your season is fucked if your starter goes down.

The only theory that would make sense to me is that Brinkley is banged up and wasn't going to suit up this week, so they cut him with the plan of bringing him back next week since they've already guaranteed him his money. Johnson meanwhile is a fast QB who can simulate Dak Prescott in practice.

If it's not that though, I don't get the move at all. Brinkley was one of their only good LBs last year.

Probably not a good sign for Jared Goff's career that Deadspin basically compared him as the next Jamarcus Russell when it comes to possible busts.

Going to be the first QB picked #1 since Russell to not start in Week 1 and Rams don't even have him listed on the depth chart (Rams punter is their 3rd stringer). Even comparisons to QBs picked high and didn't start in Week 1 or their rookie season don't look good for Goff since those teams already had quality vets as starters or purposely did it to groom them into franchise QBs.

For some reference, Russell managed to topple Ryan Leaf as worst ever bust in NFL history.

The Patriots, who were being given 9 points on the road, just pulled out a win against one of the presumptive NFC favorites without their two best players and a massive mismatch on the offensive line via missed a field goal. And the rest of their division lost.

NFL teasing kickoffs might get removed within the near future.

NFL thinks those plays are responsible for a high amount of head injuries and even with recent changes still don't like the amount of hits occurring.

Also their plan to move touchbacks to the 25 yard line hasn't worked as well since teams are starting to do shorter kicks to ensure the ball stays in play. Fewer touchbacks compared to week 1 last season.

Pretty interesting comment by CBS commentators about NFL using chips in footballs and possibly using it to make FGs tougher.

The part about teams going for 4th down a lot more is probably going to be true and be counter to what the NFL wants with less hits occurring per game. Also go against rules and changes over the years meant to help scoring occur more.

Do the Browns have the most weapons on offense than any team in the NFL? Josh Gordon, Corey Coleman, Terrelle Pryor, Gary Barnidge, Duke Johnson, Isiah Crowell, 3 Recievers who will be #1 recievers on any other team and 2 stud running backs. Plus Duke is a great RB than can catch aswell so you can use him as a pass threat too. Once Gordon gets back it is over Browns 13-3

 Rex Ryan going to a recent Patriots conference call just to ask who the Patriots were going to start at QB for the game this Sunday.

As Patriots receiver Julian Edelman wrapped up a conference call with Buffalo reporters, Ryan -- who just entered the room for his news conference -- leaned over into the speakerphone and asked Edelman a question.

"Julian, this is, uh, Walt Patulski from The Buffalo News," Ryan said. "Are you playing quarterback this week?"

"Huh?" Edelman responded.

"Are you playing quarterback this week?" Ryan repeated.

"I'm gonna do whatever the coaches ask me to do," Edelman said, "so if they ask me to go out and get a glass a water to someone on the sideline, I'm gonna do that with a smile on my face if it helps our team win. So you can ask Coach that one."

"All right, Julian, I will, buddy," Rex said, as he laughed and walked to the lectern.

Eli has just 4 TD and 4 INT over 4 games. And 3 of those TDs came in Week 1. With OBJ, Cruz, and Shepard the offense was meant to be built on big plays down field - instead they've barely looked down field at all because other teams have figured out they just need to have a few guys in cloud coverage to turn Eli into Captain Checkdown. Or in the case today, Captain Throwdown. I've never seen Eli play scared like this before, dude was just throwing balls into the ground within 2 seconds due to a total lack of trust in the pass protection around him.

Eli and McAdoo need to come up with a new attack before this season spirals out of control with Green Bay, Baltimore, and the always weird London trip coming up. Then the Eagles and Bengals after that. The Chicago and Cleveland cream puff games might come too late in the season to help them.
