Preliminary ruling by the NY Supreme Court went in favor of the state over Draft Kings and FanDuel. Gambling ban for fantasy sports betting sites is staying in effect until the Court makes an official ruling.
A New York Supreme Court justice on Friday granted a preliminary injunction to Attorney General Eric Schneiderman to stop daily fantasy operators DraftKings and FanDuel from doing business in the state.
Justice Manuel Mendez agreed with Schneiderman's contention that the companies are operating illegal gambling sites based on how New York law defines gambling. Lawyers for DraftKings and FanDuel argued that their clients could not have violated gambling statutes because they were taking in entry fees and not wagers. The main support for their contention was a New Jersey case -- an unpublished decision in Humphrey v. Viacom (2007) -- which Mendez disregarded, saying that what they took in were in fact bets under New York law.
"New York State penal law does not refer to 'wagering' or 'betting,' rather it states that a person, 'risks something of value,'" Mendez wrote. "The payment of an 'entry fee' as high as $10,600 on one or more contests daily could certainly be deemed risking 'something of value.'"

Andy Dalton rumored to be out for the rest of the season due to a hand injury. Could return for the playoffs if the test results and healing are both good.
Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton likely will miss the rest of the season because of a right thumb injury, team sources told ESPN's Bob Holtzman.
Dalton suffered a fractured thumb in Sunday's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, but the Bengals are uncertain how long he will be sidelined.
The best-case scenario, sources told Holtzman, is that Dalton will return for the playoffs.

Half owner. The town owns the other half in a similar deal to the Packers, so they can't be Modell'd again.
But yes, the front office are dickheads. But that seems to be par for the course in Cleveland sports. Let's get a corporate cash cow going with no effort, and when it doesn't work, reshuffle the deck until it does work.
That my squad got handled today by such a hapless trainwreck (that I also follow ever since their creboot") proves how huge of a dumpster fire the 9ers are this season.

NFL announced small rule tweaks for the playoffs mostly to help for stuff not normally covered by NFL's replay HQ.
The NFL's replay HQ won't be allowed to overturn calls not allowed by instant replay but refs can ask for help to make sure they got other stuff done correctly.
For the 2015 Postseason, consultation may occur between the Referee and the VP of Officiating or his designee located in the league’s officiating headquarters in New York regarding the correct application of playing rules. In addition to the VP of Officiating’s current role in Instant Replay, this consultation will only include the appropriate assessment of penalty yardage, the proper administration of the game clock, the correct down, or any other administrative matter not currently reviewable.
This will not include the ability to call or change a foul, or otherwise become involved in on-field judgment calls that are not subject to the current Instant Replay system.
Also NFL will be punishing teams more harshly if they try to get around the concussion protocol. The recent Case Keenum situation with the Rams being the reason why the penalties are going to be a lot more stricter from now on.

NFL putting next year's Thursday Night games up for bidding. Biggest changes is the possibility of no NFL Network exclusive games and streaming services being allowed to show all games. NFL is trying to push to see if they can co-host a playoff game but not expected to be approved by whoever wins the bids.
Also possible for one network to buy out all the games instead of splitting it with other networks.
The NFL has told TV networks that it is ready to accept bids for the “Thursday Night Football” package that, once again, will be for just two years, according to several sources. The league last week sent formal RFPs to the usual TV partners and outlets -- CBS, ESPN, Fox, NBC and Turner -- that outlined the NFL’s plan to sell a one-year deal with a league option for a second year. The league also sent RFPs to several digital companies, like Google, Yahoo, Apple and Amazon, to stream the entire Thursday night schedule on a non-exclusive basis, sources said. The league’s initial plan would have the digital streams serve as a simulcast of the television production -- with the same ads and in-game production features. The league expects bidding to start in the low $300M for the television package, with a nominal escalator in year two, sources said. CBS currently is paying around $300M per season for the Thursday night package.

Odell Beckham Jr suspended 1 game by the NFL probably due more because of the blatant helmet-to-helmet hit he gave to Josh Norman. NFL hinted he should have been tossed from the game because of it.
According to reports, the Panthers pre-game antics towards him were what likely set him off during the game.
A Carolina Panthers practice squad player carried a black baseball bat onto the field in pregame warm-ups Sunday and was motioning with it toward Odell Beckham Jr. while making comments to the New York Giants receiver, a league source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Beckham, according to another source, felt threatened, and it helped put him in a certain state of mind for a game in which he was penalized three times for unnecessary roughness, including a helmet-to-helmet hit on Panthers cornerback Josh Norman.
Panthers players are claiming the bats are not meant to be taken seriously and just a pre-game gag they like to do. Also claimed nobody had a problem with them having bats around until yesterday's game.

Panther dropping the pre-game bats routine and denied rumors of homophobic slurs were said towards Beckham Jr prior to the Giants-Panthers game.
Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera said he will no longer allow his team to bring baseball bats onto the field before games and denied reports that his players directed homophobic slurs at New York Giants star Odell Beckham Jr. before Sunday's contest.
Rivera announced his new policy regarding the baseball bats Tuesday, one day after photos and videos surfaced of star cornerback Josh Norman and practice squad player Marcus Ball carrying a black bat on the field during warm-ups ...
A Giants source had told ESPN's Ian O'Connor Monday that Giants players on the field heard Panthers defensive players directing anti-gay slurs and expletives at Beckham before the game ...
A source told ESPN's Adam Schefter that Beckham felt threatened when Ball carried a black baseball bat onto the field during warm-ups Sunday and was motioning with it toward the receiver while making comments, and it helped put him in a certain state of mind for a game in which he was penalized three times for unnecessary roughness, including a helmet-to-helmet hit on Norman.

According to reports, both the NFL and MLB have started investigations regarding the recent roids report and the alleged players so far revealed.
In regards to the NFL, what caught them by surprise the most was the supposed type of roids Peyton was using and/or being ordered for his wife. Either they were unaware about it before or about players possibly using it since it probably doesn't get detected in the current roids testing.
Clay Matthews seems to be exonerated at the moment since the stuff listed he supposedly was taking is legal by NFL rules.

Mike Holmgren rumored to be interested in the 49ers head coaching job if its made avaliable this offseason. Had the chance to coach the Raiders this season before the team went with Jack Del Rio instead.
Robert Klemko of MMQB.com reports that former Packers and Seahawks HC Mike Holmgren has expressed interest in the 49ers head-coaching job.
Dave Softy Mahler points out that Holmgren has been “very open” about his interest in returning to the 49ers, and mentioned that he would talk with them regarding an opportunity if they were interested.

If Holmgren stuck around he probably could have had the Browns job and fixed that mess up real good.
But San Fran is his stomping grounds. Gonna be hard to turn down if the Niners offer the job to him.
But, I can see him not taking it. If guys like Bill Cowher, Jon Gruden, and Tony Dungy don't wanna go back, I can easily see Mike Holmgren not coming back to the game.

Supposedly just be a motivator while everyone else handled the actual coaching stuff which sounds really odd to do for a head coach hiring.
This was the 49ers master plan going into the season:
Many times this season, though, Tomsula looked overmatched as an in-game strategist. Alas, that was not supposed to be his strength. Rather, as former Niners coach Mike Nolan, who initially hired Tomsula in Santa Clara, told ESPN, that general manager Trent Baalke would put together a strong roster, Tomsula's coordinators would do the "football" things and Tomsula would be the motivator.
In fact, Drew Henson, who played for Tomsula in Europe, said that Tomsula compared favorably to Lloyd Carr, Joe Torre and Bill Parcells as a motivator.

No idea what the Giants will do in the draft. They need help basically everywhere.
They may even have to go Offensive Tackle for the 3rd time in 4 years. Feels like its harsh to slap the bust tag on Ereck Flowers already. He was put in a tough spot, was supposed to play right tackle and instead he got moved to left tackle with zero professional experience.
But he still graded out as the worst tackle in football by a wide margin according to Pro Football Focus. And recent league history suggests that tackles rarely improve. You either are good right out of college or you suck and get moved to guard soon thereafter.

Glad the Cowboys are not in the middle of the draft this year but hate what it took to get a top 5 pick. Don't know who they take at 4. Don't see a QB good enough to take that early. Really should draft a RB but I'm not sure the 4th pick would be a great spot to reach on a RB. Always find a group of players if like to see Dallas pick and they never pick any but I'd like to see them get one of the top backs either Elliot, Henry, or the Arkansas RB. Pharroh Cooper the WR out our South Carolina is another guy I'd like to see them take but probably won't. Defensively it's a homer pick for me but Josh Harvy Clemons out of Louisville is a DBiI'd like to see them grab as well.

We all know Vegas stories can get extremely crazy involving celebrities. This is going to sound wild, and maybe hard to believe, but this is what we’re hearing regarding Johnny Manziel.
Our sources tell us Manziel was at a popular night club on the strip Saturday night. The QB entered wearing a blonde wig, a fake mustache, glasses, and a hoodie.
Manziel introduced himself as “Billy.” He was there into the 3am hour and when it came time to pay the bill, he asked to have it comped because he didn’t bring cash and also didn’t want to put it on his card.
However, the sources tell us he ended up paying with his card and signing the check.
By 3am he appeared to be enjoying the party scene that Vegas is known to offer.
The club had Manziel and his crew placed at a VIP table close to the DJ booth. The table is located in one of the darkest areas of the club.
Manziel dined at the club’s restaurant before going to the nightclub. He was seated at the most private area in the restaurant, which is still out in the open. And yes, he ate with his wig and glasses on.

Chargers, Raiders, and Rams all filed the official paperwork for relocation. Owners vote on who gets to move or not won't happen till between January 12th and 13th.
According to CBS Sports, none of the proposals have enough votes to win on their own although the Chargers/Raiders option seems to be the favorite. Also being teased that if Chargers split from the Raiders, they are likely the team to move since owners prefer them out of the three to move first. Rams owner seems to have lost support recently with the owners and might try to get Chargers/Raiders move blocked if he doesn't get his way.
Evil Vito
01-04-2016, 11:52 PM
In the event the Chargers and Raiders both move, one of them will have to go to the NFC West with a team moving to the AFC West.
Seahawks are assumed to be the team that would go to the AFC West since they're a former AFC team and their rivalry with the Niners has already fizzled. But it'd be kinda weird to take a team that's been a perennial Super Bowl contender and move them to the other conference. Cardinals are really good too so moving them seems unfair. And the Niners have too much NFC lineage.
Would be awkward as all hell for the Rams though if they lose their relocation bid AND have to change divisions.

Seems like the Eagles are down to between Sean Payton and Adam Gase as their next coach. They are interested in trading for Payton if the price is right but at the same time are pretty far along in negotiations with Gase. The longer it takes for the Saints to make a decision, the more likely its Gase to the Eagles.
Giants, Dolphins, and 49ers are also interested in Payton while the Colts were before dropping out very quickly because Saints want at least a 1st Round pick for a trade.

Must be a really bad shortage of good defensive coordinators for him to keep getting a job.

According to ESPN, the LA relocation voting is rumored to include a third option which is Rams and Raiders being paired together. Rams proposed the option but still waiting on the Raiders if they want to bail out on the Chargers or not to be made official.
Owners currently meeting to vote on if LA will get a team and who it will be.

Hope its the Rams and Chargers moving to LA but really wouldnt care if all 3 went. Hate that Oakland cant get a new stadium built for the Raiders and them playing on a baseball diamond is ridiculous.

I don't know if the Davis family is really stupid or really smart. Either get out of the dump, or go build your own. It's that simple.
Just how much money is the NFL gonna give Oakland if they decide to stay? Football stadiums ain't cheap these days with costs crossing into the billions with Metlife Stadium and AT&T Stadium.

Makes the most since. Rams in LA just sounds right. I would hate to see the Raiders in San Antonio but if thats what it takes to get them a new stadium then so be it. Color scheme would at least match the Spurs though.

The Chargers are in a tough spot now. They aren't going to love the terms of a potential move to LA, Rams would stand to get the concessions money and a cut of ticket sales since the stadium would be owned by Kroenke.
At the same time, they totally threw their fans under the bus and it's tough to see the taxpayers voting for a new stadium.

wait what
why is that even an option (Raiders going to San Diego)
seems absurd, if the city can't even manage to keep the Chargers why the hell would a) the Raiders want to b) be able to move there
Evil Vito

San Diego don't want to lose their team and the NFL really doesn't want to lose that market. The problem is Spanos is a bit of an asshole and the city is pissed off at the Chargers from throwing them under the bus. Enough so that if the Chargers leave they might be enticed to actually give money to the Raiders to keep a team in the area.
Most likely though San Diego would just be used as a bargaining chip by the Raiders to try to get Oakland to fork over money.

Also worth noting that the Chargers and Raiders both will be given money by the NFL to try and work out stadium deals with their current cities. The Chargers were given more than the Raiders, which suggests that the league doesn't actually want the Chargers to relocate if they can avoid it.
Fail to see how 2 LA teams isn't going to bomb spectacularly.
Oakland also have the option of moving to LA in January 2017 if the Chargers decide to stay put. Chargers have until March to decide if they want to move for the 2016 season.

I really can't imagine how depressing it would be to have your team move away. It's sometimes hard for me to empathize since none of my teams are a threat to move (I don't count the Islanders going to Brooklyn, if anything that just assures they'll still be relatively "local" to me for the long haul) but shit...I can't imagine pumping hours into watching a team and going to a ton of games only for them to just peace out.

With the way the rumors were going near the end, seemed like the NFL wanted the Chargers to do a sole bid to move to LA while the Raiders would have taken over San Diego or St Louis for moving purposes if all were to leave.
Chargers being way too committed to the Chargers-Raiders plan to budge and Raiders giving several hints they'd be willing to back out probably made the NFL think Chargers were more likely to stay between the two. The Chargers getting $100 million seems like the NFL knows it would be enough to sway them to stay since the Raiders are going to bolt the second they get the opportunity now.
St Louis as a possible choice for the Raiders got thrown under the bus when the Rams owner trashed the city in his relocation letter.

The Raiders might do well to wait this out a little bit longer. Oakland is no longer the hell hole that it used to be and there is money all over the place there. As Oakland slowly gets gentrified into San Francisco 2, opportunities for a new stadium are going to present themselves eventually. Oakland is fated to become just a town of investors and millionaires. Between the money given for stadium upgrades by the NFL and private investors, something can probably happen

And if the Chargers have to stay in San Diego next year, that is going to be fucking bananas to watch. The fans already checked out at the beginning of this season. They totally feel betrayed by that organization. I'm sure if the Chargers end up staying, management will try to spin it like they never actually wanted to leave or something. It's all a clusterfuck.

Baltimore had it done to them with the Colts. I was 2 when it happened so i dont remember it but there are plenty of people in Baltimore who 30+ years later are still not over it despite getting the Ravens 20 years ago.
Its pretty interesting because theres a Johnny Unitas statue out front of M&T and a couple of Baltimore Colts players in the Ravens Ring of Honor and the Ravens kept the Colts Marching Band which never disbanded when the Colts moved.
