Feel guilty because I "crave" Schefter's reporting crap for fantasy stuff, but seems like media has way too much accessibility to shit like that
<font color=goldenrod>I have no idea how Schefter gets his sources or why so many people inside football (including a lot of higher-ups) are so eager to help him, but it's crazy. When he reports something it's basically a lock.
Like with the whole Brady/Deflategate testimony crap. Schefter reported that Brady would have 4 hours to plead his case. A NFL spokesperson took to Twitter to refute those claims. Schefter then immediately tweeted a private memo from within the league office verifying his report and making the spokesperson look like a moron.</font>

LA relocation plans hit a small snag recently after the Rose Bowl committee rejected offers to temporary host a potential new LA team until an actual stadium is built. Had they agreed, Rams, Chargers, or Raiders would have been able to move as early as 2016.
Official reason was them not wanting to have to shuffle around plans for existing and future events at the stadium. Also would have disrupted the environmental reports already in progress for those events.
NFL still looking at other possible stadiums as temporary hosts like Dodgers stadium, StubHub Center, and others in the area.

I feel like JPP is done as a Giant. With him not allowing the team access to information about his injury he pretty much made that a guarantee. Even if he signs the franchise tender for 14.8 million or whatever, he will then have to undergo a full medical exam and if he doesn't meet the Giant's standards they can pull the franchise tag back and nullify the deal.
He's going to have to start looking at which teams will take a risk on him now to see if he will still be the same player. Have a feeling he will end up signing like a 1 year 8-9 mill contract with some other team.
Also, wtf with the football players injuring themselves with fireworks? Probably all that CTE causing them to get confused and bungle the launch. :shifty:

Forgive my ignorance. I could be wrong but does a finger injury really have that big of a impact on his position?

07-10-2015, 01:32 AM
Yes, hands are critical for DEs to play effectively. They have to keep their hands active and be able to grip the OL to throw him or other techniques to keep them from blocking him. Fold your index finger to your palm and try imagine using that hand to grip the outside should of a tackle to keep him from crossing your face and getting you turned on a stretch play or trying to grab the tackle's inside shoulder pads to keep separation so he can find the ball and disengage to go make the tackle. It could be an issue against elite tackles (*cough*COWBOYS*cough*) or tackles who have a strength advantage. It wouldn't be as big of a deal if it was his pinky. It will be enough of a difference to change his value from one of the absolute best at his position and somebody whose side you won't run to into just a really good DE. The owners/GMs will do whatever they can to get out of paying top dollar.

Changing his stance will also change how his footwork is at the snap of the ball, and that can cause the 1-second difference in winning or losing the play on top of him being comfortable or not in his stance. The QB spot isn't the only position where every little thing is nuanced and broken down in film study.

<font color=goldenrod>Yep. I could very easily see this being the type of thing that derails his career if he can't make the adjustment.
At least I still feel pretty good about the DEs the Giants have. Robert Ayers is solid. Damontre Moore feels like someone who would thrive in the Spagnuolo system. I liked the George Selvie signing. Kerry Wynn went on a tear near the end of last season. Their 3rd round pick O-Squared has a lot of promise.
As it is they're probably not going to be able to carry more than 5 DEs on the roster, so I figure one of those guys gets cut unless JPP starts the year on the NFI list.</font>

PFT's Mike Florio reports the NFL offered suspended QB Tom Brady a two-game reduction on his four-game suspension in exchange for a guilty admission.
Per Florio's source, Brady had to admit to having knowledge of whatever ball men John Jastremski and Jim McNally were doing to the footballs, admit to failing to cooperate with the Ted Wells investigation and then apologize. Brady's ban would have then dropped to at least two games and possibly one. It appears Brady is dead-set on taking the NFL to court to get his suspension wiped out completely or he's going to take the heat and sit the four games.
From Rotoworld on a supposed deal NFL offered to Brady. Wanted him to take full blame for everything regardless on how shaky the Wells report itself was with Deflategate. Then apologize to Goodell probably for both Deflategate and trying to upstage his authority with the legal threats. Doing all of that still wouldn't guarantee a reduction since Goodell still reserved the right to deny the appeal but keep the admission. Since he didn't the league is now "suing" him to get a federal court ruling on their side and prevent Brady's case from happening in a more player-friendly court.
'I talked to Bill (Belichick) at the combine, and I asked him how Jimmy was doing,' recalled [Garoppolo's QB tutor Jeff] Christensen in a recent phone call. 'He said "(Jimmy) looks like a linebacker. He works out like a linebacker. He acts like a linebacker. I really like him a lot, coach. You did a great job with him. Thank you."'
Going to assume Garoppolo must be Big Ben type size but laughing at the mental image of him being Wilfork size instead.
Too high? Not in my book. I'd much rather have an athletic young backup with upside than some 39-year-old game manager. Garoppolo was intriguing last preseason and played well in relief of Brady in a Monday night collapse against the Chiefs. I'm convinced he'll perform well again if Brady's four-game suspension sticks. New England does an outstanding job of preparing young players and Garoppolo showed good decision-making last season. He isn't afraid to throw the ball downfield and we're talking about a coach, in Bill Belichick, who milked an 11-win season out of Matt Cassel.
NFL Network released a ranking of all the back up QBs in the league and Garoppolo got ranked #4. Odd dig at Peyton though.

I assume the NFL would either make a team wear white in those instances or have a team wear an alt jersey with a different color scheme or something. Like a Bengals/Steelers game if the Bengals are on the road, they'd need to wear their orange jersey, not a black one.</font>

Yeah I could see that being awful if no stipulations are added. So many teams have red, or blue jerseys. If it's Green Bay and Baltimore or something then whatever, but if it's two red teams then one should have to wear an alternate if they go that route.
Although I must say I watched a Royals/Blue Jays game earlier this season with Toronto wearing their blues and KC wearing this baby blue colour and it looked pretty cool

<font color=goldenrod>Brady<s>'s lawyer</s> issued the following statement over Facebook:</font>
I am very disappointed by the NFL's decision to uphold the 4 game suspension against me. I did nothing wrong, and no one in the Patriots organization did either.
Despite submitting to hours of testimony over the past 6 months, it is disappointing that the Commissioner upheld my suspension based upon a standard that it was "probable" that I was "generally aware" of misconduct. The fact is that neither I, nor any equipment person, did anything of which we have been accused. He dismissed my hours of testimony and it is disappointing that he found it unreliable.
I also disagree with yesterdays narrative surrounding my cellphone. I replaced my broken Samsung phone with a new iPhone 6 AFTER my attorneys made it clear to the NFL that my actual phone device would not be subjected to investigation under ANY circumstances. As a member of a union, I was under no obligation to set a new precedent going forward, nor was I made aware at any time during Mr. Wells investigation, that failing to subject my cell phone to investigation would result in ANY discipline.
Most importantly, I have never written, texted, emailed to anybody at anytime, anything related to football air pressure before this issue was raised at the AFC Championship game in January. To suggest that I destroyed a phone to avoid giving the NFL information it requested is completely wrong.
To try and reconcile the record and fully cooperate with the investigation after I was disciplined in May, we turned over detailed pages of cell phone records and all of the emails that Mr. Wells requested. We even contacted the phone company to see if there was any possible way we could retrieve any/all of the actual text messages from my old phone. In short, we exhausted every possibility to give the NFL everything we could and offered to go thru the identity for every text and phone call during the relevant time. Regardless, the NFL knows that Mr. Wells already had ALL relevant communications with Patriots personnel that either Mr. Wells saw or that I was questioned about in my appeal hearing. There is no "smoking gun" and this controversy is manufactured to distract from the fact they have zero evidence of wrongdoing.
I authorized the NFLPA to make a settlement offer to the NFL so that we could avoid going to court and put this inconsequential issue behind us as we move forward into this season. The discipline was upheld without any counter offer. I respect the Commissioners authority, but he also has to respect the CBA and my rights as a private citizen. I will not allow my unfair discipline to become a precedent for other NFL players without a fight.
Lastly, I am overwhelmed and humbled by the support of family, friends and our fans who have supported me since the false accusations were made after the AFC Championship game. I look forward to the opportunity to resume playing with my teammates and winning more games for the New England Patriots.
---
<font color=goldenrod>So yeah...hope you didn't want to hear about actual football news anytime soon because this story isn't going away anytime soon. It's gonna go to federal court and everyone will be under oath.

When it first happened it was pretty much "well that's a heartbreaker for them, but they are building a really great franchise and I could totally see them finishing the job in the next year or two to make up for it".
But then you had the NFC Title game the next year, Sherman basically mocking them en route to a title win, a subpar 2014 and then the entire team wound up getting dismantled with Harbaugh leaving and players retiring en masse.</font>

Ted Wells involved in another lawsuit regarding his reports. This time involving the Dolphins harassment report from 2014.
Former Dolphins O-line coach is suing Ted Wells for defamation and Wells goal with the report was to ensure future deals with the NFL. Believes the NFL colluded with Wells to find an easy scapegoat for blame while ignoring the deeper problems within the Dolphins organization.
Former Dolphins offensive line coach Jim Turner, who was fired by the Dolphins after his actions were questioned in the first Wells report in February 2014, is filing a lawsuit in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Wells and his law firm, Paul Weiss of New York, seeking damages for defamation, according to an official familiar with the case.
Turner, who thinks his reputation and career have been unfairly affected, believes that Wells' report on the Dolphins negatively and perhaps permanently altered his ability to land another NFL coaching job ...
In the lawsuit, Turner alleges that the NFL commissioned Wells and Paul Weiss to write a report that would placate the public and assign blame to certain individuals such as Turner, while the law firm was well-paid and well-positioned for future work on NFL cases such as the one that turned out to be Deflategate.
Turner's attorney, Peter Ginsberg, believes that Wells and Weiss failed to include significant testimony from former and current Dolphins coaches and players in the report, opting instead to blame the events on, among others, Turner.
Ginsberg also believes that Turner was falsely accused of helping create an atmosphere that allowed bullying and harassment to happen and, even though Wells knew the accusations were not true, he included them in the report anyway, damaging Turner's reputation and inflicting emotional distress, pain and suffering.
Incognito told Newsday that Wells left out information that could have helped his case in the published report. Asked for specifics on what was left out of Wells' report in his case, Incognito said: "Teammate testimony, stuff like that."

Geno Smith broke his jaw after he got punched by a team mate in the locker room... out 6-10 weeks (from now, not 6-10 weeks of the season)...
Geno Smith “sucker punched” in Jets’ locker room, out 6-10 weeks
Jets quarterback Geno Smith has been injured in a fight in the team’s locker room and will likely miss the start of the regular season.
In a stunning announcement today, Jets coach Todd Bowles said that Smith suffered a broken jaw when he was “sucker punched” by Jets linebacker IK Enemkpali. The Jets have cut Enemkpali as a result.
Smith is expected to miss 6-10 weeks. The Jets’ opener is less than five weeks away, so Smith will almost certainly miss some time to start the regular season.
Training camp fights are common, but those fights are usually on the practice field, when players are in full pads. For a player to seriously injure a teammate in the locker room is very rare. And for a player to seriously injure his team’s starting quarterback is completely shocking.
For Smith and the Jets, it’s a major setback. And it’s a story that will raise serious questions around the NFL, about whether the league needs to crack down harder on fights between teammates.

NFL's plan to have the Brady-Deflategate court case heard in New York backfired again for the league.
Judge for the initial hearing ended up grilling Goodell and the league more than Brady over the shaky evidence regarding the Wells Report. Judge kept asking the NFL for direct evidence that was used for punishing Brady in order to prove he deserved the punishment and instead only kept getting vague claims of evidence.
Judge Richard M. Berman in Manhattan repeatedly asked NFL lawyer Daniel L. Nash for "direct evidence that implicates Mr. Brady" as he gave both sides a chance to state their case in the first hearing before him.
Nash responded there was "considerable evidence Mr. Brady clearly knew about this,'' including records of text messages and phone calls between the quarterback and one of two Patriots employees implicated in the scandal known as "Deflategate.'' But he also said there was no "smoking gun'' showing Brady had direct knowledge that the balls were deflated for the first half of the Patriots' 45-7 defeat of the Indianapolis Colts in the Jan. 18 AFC championship.
Judge also thought it was a bit ironic that Brady performed better with higher inflated balls than under-inflated balls in regards to the NFL claiming Brady had a competitive advantage with Deflategate.
"Turns out, Mr. Brady did better with higher inflated balls than underinflated balls. You might say he got no competitive advantage."
According to ESPN's sources, the NFL changed their settlement offer to Brady with them unwilling to listen unless he accepts the Wells Report as true. Side effect for those terms would be his lawsuit against the league would basically collapse and he would have committed perjury.

Eli Manning wants to become the highest paid QB when his current contract is up. Basis for a new deal is to go higher than Aaron Rodgers' $22 million per year.
Was the highest after his 2nd Super Bowl victory but now is around mid-table for starter QBs.

<font color=goldenrod>Eh, it's pretty standard in today's NFL for any good QB about to go on the market to seek the biggest QB contract as the opening bid. Rodgers will wind up with an even bigger deal in a couple of years.
I suspect they'll wind up agreeing to something similar to Rivers' deal. If not, they'll slap the franchise tag on him next offseason.</font>

<font color=goldenrod>Pretty sure we're eventually we're going to be at the point where every team has a QB who takes up a quarter of the salary cap. The salaries just keep trending upward. It'll be either that or don't have one in a QB-driven league (or hope you luck out with a QB on his rookie deal). Hard to see the position ever being de-emphasized given the rules in place to promote the passing game and protect the QBs.</font>

A Santa Clara County grand jury has indicted former 49ers defensive lineman Ray McDonald on one count of raping an intoxicated woman following a party at his house in December, per the San Jose Mercury News. San Francisco linebacker Ahmad Brooks has been indicted for one count of misdemeanor sexual battery against the same woman at the same party, as well. McDonald faces up to eight years in prison if he is convicted of rape, and Brooks could be behind bars for six months ...
The grand jury also indicted McDonald for violating a domestic violence restraining order in late May. He could serve up to a year in prison for that misdemeanor charge.
The December incident was McDonald's second domestic violence arrest in five months, as authorities apprehended him last August for allegedly attacking his fiancee. No formal charges were ever filed in that case, and law enforcement eventually dropped it.
The Bears signed McDonald to a one-year contract in March, but released him in May following an altercation he had with his fiancee while she was holding their young child. San Francisco general manager Trent Baalke said Wednesday night the team is aware of the charges against Brooks, and he won't play in Saturday's preseason game.

And they still can't tackle for shit. If I were to take a shot for every defender that got knocked on their ass by the offense I would be in the ER.
I don't care about the scores in preseason. I just want to see gradual improvements. The only positives I can glean from this one are that the first team offense finally put together an impressive scoring drive, and some backups made some nice plays (Jerome Cunningham representing the CSU system for the win). And how much sense does it make to not sign your best reciever if you want to see what your young QB can do, if Gordon was clean and stayed out of trouble he probably would have got a good deal. Gordon got himself in the situation and is paying the price. Dude is very talented but just can't get right.

I've come to the conclusion that your just a hater. When somebody (like me) is doing good for themselves you always try to find a way to downgrade and belittle them to the best of your ability. I mean can you even do athletic things? Do you play sports? No so who are you to judge someone? Shame on you.

The appeals court this would go to only reverses 10 percent of the cases. It's over except for the probable competence hearing for Roger Goodells dismissal from the NFL. Robert Kraft could still also appeal. He was lied to by Goodell.
