According to reports, Peyton Manning hinting he doesn't want to retire and there might be some bad blood between him and the Broncos over the issue.

Him returning a lot quicker than expected from the recent foot injury and then playing really well completely changed all plans he and the Broncos had for the future.

Not believing anything until I hear it straight from Hannah Davis' horses' mouth.

Deflategate back in the news with this time the Appeals court revealed to be pro-NFL and went hard after the NFLPA and Brady in hearings. Ignored most if not all the issues that plagued the NFL in the original case and deferred a lot to the Wells Report when it came to evidence.

Also considering the NFL's request for the whole process to be sped up in order to not be a distraction for next season and Brady to be punished.

Right now its predicted to be a 2-1 vote in favor of the NFL's side.

Evil Vito
03-09-2016, 02:06 PM
You pretty much have to overpay in the NFL, especially if you've been shit the last few years. That's how free agency is designed.

The real key to winning is always to build through the draft, get a young core going that way and try to win a title while many of your top guys are in their cheap 4 year rookie contract (see: the Seattle Seahawks).

But since Reese is a fucking imbecile when it comes to anything past the first round of the draft leaving the Giants devoid of depth, we now have to rely on free agents.

Evil Vito
03-09-2016, 02:27 PM
Jaguars sign punter Brad Nortman to a 4-year deal. Only noteworthy because Nortman came into the league the same year as Bryan Anger, a punter who the Jaguars had drafted in the 3rd round and who is now a free agent.

Only the Jaguars could invest a high round pick in a position like punter and manage to not even draft a good one.

Wonder if Peyton's late season antics and dragging the retirement decision played a role in Brock leaving.

Supposedly violated the rules in 2015 with the signing of Jeremy Maclin but took about a year for the NFL to find enough evidence or be confident enough to hand out the punishment. Also fined the Chiefs $250k, Andy Reid $75k, and John Dorsey $25K.

Something like this was probably going to happen regardless of a title or not. Too many quality or high priced players they've stockpiled the past couple of years and now are at the point where they can't keep them without causing more future cap strain.

The Von Miller situation was going to cost them a couple of good players while Elway hinting he wants cheaper deals made probably going to cost them a few more in the end.

Agents are being told to reject all contracts from the Rams at the moment, as the contracts all say

“The parties hereto acknowledge that this Player Contract has been negotiated and executed in Missouri; that should any dispute, claim or cause of action (collectively ‘dispute’) arise concerning rights or liabilities arising from the relationship between the Player and the Club, the parties hereto agree that the law governing such dispute shall be the law of the State of Missouri. Furthermore, the exclusive jurisdiction for resolving Workers’ Compensation related claims shall be the Division of Workers’ Compensation of Missouri, and the Missouri Workers’ Compensation Act shall govern.”

California has a much more pro-employee stance when it comes to things like worker's comp claims, so they were trying to avoid their contracts being governed by those laws. Just in case you had forgotten that Kroenke was a piece of shit.

How could that even hold up in court if nothing about the team is based in Missouri anymore?

The Broncos have reached out to free agent Ryan Fitzpatrick's representatives, sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, though Denver currently is unwilling to pay the salary that the quarterback is seeking.

Two big things happened recently in the NFL.

The first being the NFL admitted for the first time there are legit medical links between CTE and football. Previously the NFL would downplay the claims and/or fund pro-NFL research to disprove any definitive links between the two.
The NFL's top health and safety officer acknowledged Monday there is a link between football-related head trauma and chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE -- the first time a senior league official has conceded football's connection to the devastating brain disease.

The other being the NFL and NFLPA are currently working on a deal that would reduce the commish's power for disciplinary cases. Although talks are at a very early stage and the union hinted actual change won't be happening soon.
The NFL and NFL Players Association are making progress toward a deal that would strip commissioner Roger Goodell of disciplinary power when it comes to off-the-field infractions by players, union executive director DeMaurice Smith told The Wall Street Journal.

"We've been talking about changes to the personal conduct policy since October and have traded proposals," Smith told The Wall Street Journal. "We looked at the league's proposal for neutral arbitration. There is a common ground for us to get something done."

Some NFL news with one being pretty bad at the moment.

Baltimore Ravens cornerback Tray Walker was involved in a serious motorcycle accident in Liberty City, Florida, on Thursday night and is in critical condition at Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital, a team spokesman said.

Chiefs proposing for NFL owners to vote on a new rule after it failed to be considered by NFL's competition committee. It involves QBs no longer allowed to throw passes if they fall to the ground regardless if they were touched or not. Being dubbed as the "Peyton Manning Rule" due to how it swung a playoff game between the Steelers and Broncos last season.
The Chiefs want the NFL to change its illegal forward pass rules to include instances when a quarterback throws a pass after his body has touched the ground (other than with his feet or hands) while the ball was in his possession.

The proposal references Manning's fourth-quarter play in the Denver Broncos' 23-16 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the divisional round of the 2015 playoffs.
Peyton Manning fell down under pressure but popped up to throw a 34-yard pass to receiver Emmanuel Sanders in the Broncos' playoff win over the Steelers.

With his Broncos trailing 13-12 at the time, Manning went to the ground to avoid contact with blitzing cornerback Will Allen. When he realized that Allen never touched him, Manning stood up and threw a 34-yard pass to receiver Emmanuel Sanders.

If the Chiefs' rule proposal had been on the books at the time, Manning would have been penalized for an illegal forward pass. In the proposal, the Chiefs reasoned that defenders "let up" when they see a quarterback on the ground. As the rule stands, according to the Chiefs, quarterbacks have an incentive to "play dead" to give their team an advantage.

Ejections for two personal fouls in a game rule ended up getting passed by the NFL's competition committee for vote during the upcoming owners meetings. Proposal itself got water downed on what counts towards the ejection requirement for fouls though.

Russell Okung's contract contains zero guaranteed money. So he basically decided to take a long-term, big money contract over a lesser deal that at least included some guranteed money.

I mean, I guess I have to applaud him for being willing to bet on himself like that but for a guy with his injury history it probably would have been better for him to guarantee himself some sort of income. He could shred his knee in training camp and wind up never making another cent in the NFL. Very risky.

It should be a judgement call by the officials as opposed to just a straight "two personal fouls and you're out" rule. If a guy is going out of his way to hit people after the play multiple times, he should be ejected. If he happens to get called for a facemask in the first quarter and then sacks the QB a bit low in the 4th quarter, an ejection seems silly.

The NFL has demanded that the New York Times issue a retraction about a story last Thursday that said the league omitted concussion cases when it downplayed the effects of head injuries on players, according to a report.

According to the Times, the NFL's concussion studies ended up ignoring about 10% of all concussions within a time period in order to get a better report for their side and downplay how bad the issue was.

The research, published in 13 peer-reviewed articles beginning in October 2003, was supposed to be based on a full account of all diagnosed concussions team doctors had reported between 1996 and 2001, but the missing concussions accounted for about 10 percent of the total number of cases, according to the Times.

Other studies and reports by the NFL also had a big percentage of concussions ignored or not documented. One report even had more concussions ignored than included for the sample pool.

From the really stupid news department:

A group of Patriots fans are suing the NFL over the lost draft pick that was part of the punishment of Deflategate. The reasons are just hilarious.

From ESPN.com

BOSTON -- A group of New England Patriots (http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/_/name/ne/new-england-patriots) fans has sued the NFL in an effort to recover the first-round draft pick that was taken from the team as punishment for the Deflategate scandal.

The seven fans include a season ticket holder from Connecticut who said the scandal has left his 7-year-old daughter disillusioned and a Florida man who said the NFL's sanctions have caused him stress and lost sleep.

The complaint filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Boston says the NFL made an "arbitrary and capricious'' decision to revoke the pick in this month's draft even though there is no proof the team deliberately deflated footballs in the Jan. 18, 2015, AFC Championship game against the Indianapolis Colts.

The complaint alleges, among other things, common law fraud, negligence, intentional inflection of emotional distress, and racketeering.
The NFL, Commissioner Roger Goodell and team owner Robert Kraft are named as defendants.

The Patriots and league declined to comment Wednesday.

The complaint says the league and Goodell relied on "false premises and biased `investigations''' in handing down punishment, which also included a $1 million fine and a four-game suspension for quarterback Tom Brady. Brady's suspension remains under appeal.

The suit criticizes Kraft for not fighting the league's punishments harder.
"Defendant Robert Kraft had remedies to attempt to get plaintiffs' draft pick back, but he chose his fellow billionaire owners above the plaintiffs and fellow fans,'' the suit said.

Sports law experts tell the Boston Herald the suit is a Hail Mary because fans don't have standing in the matter.

"Paying for a ticket to watch the Patriots play isn't interfered with by the team losing a draft pick or two,'' said Michael McCann, a sports law professor at the University of New Hampshire Law School.

NFL's report itself was pretty flawed but  at that lawsuit.

NFL probably didn't think the Pats pick was going to be where it usually is when they came up with the punishments but them having two 2nd Round picks can be flipped to a potentially higher 2nd Round pick with a good deal. Belichick loves 2nd Round picks a lot more than 1st Round picks based on his draft history.

According to several reports, the whole thing might not have been a random act of road rage but a premeditated murder.

The shooter might have held a grudge against Smith going back to when he worked as a member of the Saints security and for having a dinner with a cop who later ended up killing the shooter's father in a different incident.

Misread when the dinner part happened since the way the article worded it made me think it was before the father's shooting but it was actually before Smith's shooting instead.

Location of Smith's death was very close to the location where the shooter's father died years ago. Also seems the shooter was preoccupied with trying to pursue his own football career until last year in regards to possible motive reasons.

NFL denied Josh Gordon's appeal for reinstatement. Next possible chance for him would be in August.

Ended up being currently suspended due to something else getting triggered for the test result than just because of weed.

Gordon, who turns 25 on Wednesday, failed a drug test last month, according to multiple reports. While the level of marijuana reportedly in his system was below the 35 nanogram threshold, the sample was diluted which is the same as a positive test by the NFL's standards.

List of prospects who will be in the green room for the draft this year:

Eli Apple
Joey Bosa
Vernon Butler
Corey Coleman
Jack Conklin
Taylor Decker
Josh Doctson
Kevin Dodd
Ezekiel Elliott
Jared Goff
Vernon Hargreaves
Myles Jack
Chris Jones
Shaq Lawson
Darron Lee
Keanu Neal
Robert Nkemdiche
Reggie Ragland
Jalen Ramsey
Jarran Reed
A'Shawn Robinson
Ronnie Stanley
Laquon Treadwell
Laremy Tunsil
Carson Wentz

Pretty safe picks. I'd guess that Neal, Butler, and Jones have the biggest chance of uncomfortably sitting there on day 2 but I don't think there will be any meteoric falls this year.

Rams trade up to acquire No. 1 pick from Titans

By Conor Orr NFL.com

In a stunning move that shakes up the top of the draft and almost ensures that the Rams will be starting a rookie quarterback in 2016, the Titans have traded the No. 1 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft to Los Angeles, both teams announced Thursday morning.

The Rams, previously selecting at No. 15, are the lowest-picking team in NFL history to trade up to the No. 1 spot. The move, however, did not come cheap.

It is essentially the Rams' karmic payback for fleecing the Redskins back in 2012 for a treasure trove of picks that led to the selection of Robert Griffin III. The terms are as follows: Tennessee gets: Rams' first-round pick (2016), two second-round picks (2016) third-round pick (2016), first-round pick (2017), third-round pick (2017).

Rams get: Titans' first-overall pick (2016), fourth-round pick (2016), sixth-round pick (2016).

The acquisition has to be seen as a coup for new Titans general manager Jon Robinson. Already equipped with his quarterback of the future -- Marcus Mariota -- there were needs across the board that can now be addressed immediately. This year's draft has been viewed as one of the deepest for certain positions in half a decade, and the Titans now have the chance to fill several holes instead of one.

The Rams, on the other hand, are taking a gigantic risk. Prepping for the first season in Los Angeles, the team wanted to arrive on scene with a new face of the franchise. It is almost a guarantee that the Rams will end up with either Carson Wentz or Jared Goff. NFL Media's Albert Breer reports the Rams already have conducted on-campus workouts with both QBs. They likely made the move fearing that the quarterback-needy Browns would take their preferred choice at No. 2.

"It is not often that you have the number one overall pick and we hope to not be in this position again, but we tried to use that pick as currency to work the draft and maximize player acquisition," Robinson said in a statement. "Being able to acquire six picks in the top 76 this year and additional picks next year, not only helps our depth but gives us ammunition to move in this year's draft and next. I know we now have the number 15 pick, but I would say it doesn't knock us out of any player except one. We now have the ammunition to work the draft and acquire players that are good for this football team. In terms of timing, it made sense for us to do this now as it gives us time to adjust and make sure we target more players."

This is the seventh time since 1990 that the No. 1 pick has been traded. The last? 2004, when the Chargers dealt Eli Manning to the Giants.

Don't think they'd do Pats/Broncos this early with Peyton gone and with the uncertainty of who will be under center in Denver. They could also do a Super Bowl rematch but I'm just not sure they'd start with an inter-conference game right off the bat.

Real estate broker Nicholas Goodwin has demanded $32,000 from Manziel for damages inflicted on the $4.5 million house.

“They were supposed to check out at noon. Manziel was passed out,” Goodwin told Page Six. “There was cocaine all over the kitchen table, and mushrooms were still out on the table in front of him. There was booze everywhere, broken glasses over the floor and a champagne glass in a tree. If they don’t respond to our demand for compensation, we will sue.”

I will be shocked if Manziel is still alive by the end of the year at this rate.
