Oh I fucking flipped. That kind of direct reference (exactly what you're talking about in the Jones thread), for THOSE two, was unheard of. I think Arrow and Flash have gained enough confidence from top brass to get away with bigger things. It just so happens we have a Kryptonian headlining her own show and Gotham showcased in another, so it's probably gonna end at words.

I'm thinking Heat Wave is gonna do something crazy very early on that gets him kicked out or killed. It is absurd, based on what we seen of him, that he is let on the team. Then again, these are decisions made by a time-traveler from the future. Maybe Heat Wave does something great, I dunno.

I imagine the time travel aspect will be 'Sliders' like and really just be a 'setting of the week' kind of thing. And also a great reason to check out some other historical heroes like Jonah Hex or THE LAST BOY ON EARTH. If... they wanna go that direction.

DC: Rebirth is really good.

I'm ready for DC comics to be about hope again and this is a great start. Lots of surprises if you haven't read about them yet + surprisingly emotional. For 2.99 if you've ever liked DC Comics it is so worth it. Really, really terrific.

same, was the first single-issue i have bought in years. i really liked it.

the watchmen twist was a massive 'wtf' swerve. so dr manhattan, what, created the entire mainstream dc universe? why was the comedian in the batcave? ugh so many questions.

i was thrilled to see wally 1.0 back though. he has always been "my" flash. i legitimately actually welled up just a little bit when barry finally recognised him and there was that almost full-page pic of him hugging him tightly and being like, 'how could i EVER forget you?'. it meant a lot to me as a wally fan.

My thoughts

Seems like they are recognizing a lot of the things that they lost (Love, Legacy, Hope, and Brightness) and are making strives to make amends, but without throwing out the new 52 completely.

I wonder how they are going to reconcile having two characters names Wally West now... I know they explained the relation, but it still seems "redundant"....

Pretty much a Flash outfit with silver instead of gold, and a hair hole....

The thing that really made me glad was THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA! I am a huge fan of the JSA, and hopefully we get a more "true" version than the characters from that "Earth 2" series.

As for the Watchmen stuff, people will probably "complain" about DC doing stuff with Watchmen again, but I say F them. Doing more stuff with Watchmen characters does not invalidate the original story.

I wonder if I should stick with any series or check anything out....

I think in an episode in the animated series' final season, Barbara dies in her dad's arms as batgirl. Gordon eventually calls Wayne and states he knows everything, insinuating at a relationship.

Batman Beyond hinted at it as well. But that's all I remember

A Batman Beyond episode and the Batwoman special movie had the biggest allusions to the pairing.

By that movie Babs must be 20-ish. Her and Dick were established in the DCAU a bit older than their teenage comic start.

It also sells Bruce and Dick's major beef that never even got resolved in 'Beyond.

The beginning is weird because it is like a 20 minute (or so it seemed) bit focusing on Batgirl as the main character before it launches into the "real story". From there is is pretty much the comic book, and I think I would rather read it, but there are definitely cool moments (mainly hearing Mark Hamil as Joker saying some of these lines)

Kinda hope that isn't the case. Feels like it'd be a waste to do the Flashpoint storyline and not use it to do anything substantial. I mean we all know they're not gonna mix up Flash or Arrow very much with this cause A) CW doesn't have the balls for that, and B) it'd probably turn off a lot of fans if everything just "reset" or something. The only thing I can think of that could come out of such an event is a merging of universes which would also allow Flash and Arrow to start featuring alien characters in their shows too. Just seems like the logical next step to me.

agreed, 'green lanterns' is excellent. simon & jess are both great, and that scene in the most recent issue with her ring taking on human qualities because she talks to it is freaking adorable. phantom ring storyline is really strong but the whole book has been great so far.

also really loving both 'action comics' and 'superman' -- which is new for me because i've never been a massive superman fan. i've always liked him but never on the level that i've loved batman and the flash, for example -- but i am loving him at the moment. something really... comforting about dad-superman, i think. and lois is ridic awesome across the board, good to have her back. glad we're getting to jon & damian stuff too now, i think their series should be a lot of fun.

whole rebirth initiative has been great, actually. loved the first arc of 'detective comics' especially. that book has been really solid to date. 'green arrow' really good too. 'trinity' is cool also. 'batman' actually one of the weaker books imo. 'justice league' getting better. 'the flash' started kinda middling but has its strong points, esp lately.

anyway yeah haven't been so excited for new comics so regularly in a very long time. good stuff.

I've been slowly catching up on DC Comics. Feel like it took me a few years to "get over" the new 52 reboot.

Since then I have caught up on New 52:
- Superman books
- Justice League books
- Green Lantern books
- Aquaman
- The Flash
- Wonder Woman
- Currently working on the million Batman books

So in Rebirth I am keeping up with the same (except haven't started the Batman Rebirth titles yet)

I find the whole Superman thing causes more problems than it "solves".

They "brought back" the "classic" Superman..... except that he isn't "classic" because he is an "outsider" who is completely stripped of his supporting cast. He has no relationship with this world's Lana/Perry/Jimmy, etc...... and then sometimes the other heroes act like they have known him for years, and sometimes they act like he is a stranger who they can't trust yet.......

Feel like this whole "Mr. Oz" thing, along with general "Rebirth" mysteries, will have to lead to Superman/Lois being revealed that they are from this Earth all along, and then everyone remembers....... Just feel like they really still have to clean up this whole Superman mess......

Wonder Woman Rebirth seems to be what they should have done with Superman..... slightly tweaked the character, new costume, tweaked the character history a bit, brought her back into a relationship with Steve Trevor.... but still acknowledging that this is the New 52 Wonder Woman....

Lego Batman Movie director Chris McKay is in talks to direct a live-action Nightwing film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Accountant’s Bill Dubuque is reportedly already begun on a script.

Dick Grayson has not appeared in any of Warner Bros.’s DC Cinematic Universe films; a Robin suit appeared in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but no one involved with the film has revealed who would have been under the mask.

"classic" Superman and "New 52" Superman revealed to have been "split" somehow, and now they have been rejoined, and history "rewritten" to be "correct". So everyone will "remember" that they have always been Superman/Lois and they are not "outsiders" from "another Earth/dimension" anymore......

Now they just need to bring at least Ma Kent back to life/existence.... (in my opinion)

Greg and I started dropping clues during Court of Owls, we continued through our Joker stories and we placed our biggest hints in the run that culminated with BATMAN #50. Greg and I will dig beneath the surface of all the stories we’ve told to find a place of terror and twisted nightmares.”

DC’s new summer blockbuster publishing plans complement DC Universe Rebirth, which is filled with stories about superheroes that push characters beyond their potential to a place where their courage is tested and they persevere in the face of evil. DARK NIGHTS: METAL will examine every choice a hero doesn’t take and every path they don’t walk, and open up worlds that are forged by nightmares.

Im excited to hear this, though im cautiously optimistic. I feel like because it a super hero film witha leading lady that most critics would say its great even if it was horrid.

I say this, but i really REALLY want it to be good. I just have reservations.

I was already soured on professional reviews for years, but seeing how personal politics have screwed over the few sites I still read reviews on I can't even trust good or bad reviews or hearsay from the such sites or people on that spectrum. IGN gave the recent Tarzan movie a demerit for perpetuating 'White Savor Syndrom'. Holy shit, really? Ghost in the Shell was dragged thru the mud for casting the biggest female actress today in a role they felt should have been Asian.

So while I'm glad that WW could in fact turn around DCEU's quality slump, I have to be aware that today's culture critics will inflate their reviews based on shallow shit. Terms like pace and structure are being replaced by 'importance' and 'relevance'. Jesus.

Zack Snyder's daughter committed suicide [back in March] and he's off Justice League. Joss Whedon (who recently signed to do Batgirl) will finish the film, possibly reshoot it.

Iron Fist the guy they got to play him is just...ugh. Skin color wasn't my concern. I was far more interested in everyone else around him and the show overall was just a chore to get through.

Luke Cage started off rough for me (it was pretty much background noise while I worked) Luke Cage himself isn't what actually made me start paying attention it was the Mayor.

Superman Returns Sequel:

Bryan Singer appearently has better things to do: instead of moving on to the next Superman feature, he's working on a 'thriller' with Tom Cruise starring. Odd, he seemed so down with Supe's that I thought he'd start out on the next one atleast at a pace faster than the gap between X1 and X2. It must be noted that Singer has a history of finding better things to do. There were rumors that the next Superman would be shelved and JLA (see below) would kick a kick-start early with Brandon Routh starring. Those rumors were quickly dissolved with the powers to be saying the next Superman (rumored to called "Man of Steel") is going just fine, with Metallo and Brainiac as possible villains. The gun-turrent dude from 'Returns (Eye-of-Steel scene) may even have been John Corben...

Kate Bosworth may not return.

Batman Begins Sequel:

Most of us are pretty much up to speed here: The movie will be called "The Dark Knight" with the most talked about news being Jokers inclusion as the central villain. Joker ofcourse is being bought to us by Heath Ledger with a darker edge about the character than the stuff we've already seen. The movie should begin production right about now, with a release next Summer. The batsuit will be updated for anyone who cares, with an emphasis on 'cloth'. There's also talk of a Bat-Cycle, too. Cool. The theme of 'Begins was fear, and the theme for Dark Knight may be "things getting worse before they get better." They say the title also also has multiple meanings. Could Gotham City suffer some kind of mass blackout while the Joker goes on a killing spree? Note that many of Joker's earlier comic exploits usually had him pulling some city-wide crisis that Batman had to work double-time to fix. Also in the movie is Harvey Dent played by Aaron Eckhart. His inclusion reveals the villain for Batman's third feature.

Katie Holmes will not return. She's been replaced by Captain Marvel's sister, Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Captain Marvel:

SHAZAAM!!! And with a blast of thunder, Jake Gyllenhaal (Day After Tommorrow) is most surely, very likely, gonna maybe portray Captain Marvel (one of the few characters who could beat Superman's ass without Krrrryptonite). I'm kinda definately sure of the possibility of his consideration.

Flash:

Ryan Renalds is up for the part as Wally West. For the most part I agree with this casting. They're talking about getting into the science of super-sonic speed rather than 'him running really fast'.

Wonder Woman:

Joss Whedon dropped out of the project, which disappoints me to no end. There's also talk of setting it in WW2's era. This may have been in the old comics but really... c'mon...

JLA:

Okay... WB really wants to get this thing going, abondoning their old plan of having 'the big three' set their movie franchises first then teaming them up (would've took too long anyway). I'm sure Marvel pressing for their Avengers feature has a little to do with that. Brandon Routh is definately heading up this one, but Christian Bale didn't seem likely to appear as the Bat because A) the current Batman creative team doesn't wish to merge their darker realistic Batman with a likely bright-n-epic team-up feature and B) JLA is moving on faster than the new Batman franchise can catch up with. Still, Christian Bale has said that he signed to three contracts with the last one being "some sort've team-up." It appears Batman will be on the team afterall (thank GOD). I wonder if Wonder Woman will make the team, her franchise being on the fritz. I also wonder what other heroes will make the team...

So what do you guys think? Exciting couple of years ahead?

The Walking Dead's Lauren Cohan Might Be The Next Joker

Following the news of the Flash Point movie being added to the Warner Brothers' plans for upcoming DC Films projects, fans of DC Comics made the connection of a couple of actors from The Walking Dead playing key roles in the movie.

Not only does the Flashpoint comic book story indicate an opportunity for The Walking Dead's Negan actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan actor but the animated film Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox took Batman's other parent and turned her into an iconic DC Comics villain.

In the Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox animated film, Martha Wayne is the Joker.

Never heard of Flashpoint Paradox. Never heard they were gonna make a Flashpoint movie either.

That was just announced and if they adapt the ruined timeline closely that would indicate Jeffery and Lauren could very well return as Batman and Joker.

Although we must note that Flashpoint Joker didn't get much time in the actual comic, rather expanded in a tie-in comic. But seeing as how Lauren is fairly well known and that version of Joker is too compelling to pass up I'd bet they'd give her more time in a movie.

The bigger implications is what happens after this story, as it altered DC in a huge Crisis-like scale both in-universe and for expanded media going forward. I half joked that if all those DC movie suck, if JL especially doesn't maintain WW's momentum, Flashpoint is their get out of jail free card. They will absolutely use it to scrub the movie universe the same way Days of Future Past or Abrams Star Trek did; a 'Canonized Reboot'. Probably why it's been pushed so far back behind projects it is clearly farther along in production than.

I thought I read the "Flashpoint" was just gonna be the subtitle of their solo Flash movie...... could have very little to actually do with the comic book story...... Would seem "redundant" to me..... Flashpoint being a fairly recent comic book storyline, already adapted into an animated movie, and a story on the Flash TV show.

I thought I read the "Flashpoint" was just gonna be the subtitle of their solo Flash movie...... could have very little to actually do with the comic book story...... Would seem "redundant" to me..... Flashpoint being a fairly recent comic book storyline, already adapted into an animated movie, and a story on the Flash TV show.

You would think they would save this for a 2nd movie so they could highlight and hint as to the dangers of Barry traveling thru time could do. I do guess flashpoint is the most well known flash story so maybe they think they can jump the gun. It is also possible that we will get enough flash origin story in Justice League to set up flashpoint. From the trailers ,flash having his powers are new so it's reasonable he would use them for selfish purposes regardless of the outcome. We also have the whole flash appearing before Batman in bvs. Actually, come to think of it, I think the most shocking thing is dc/wb may actually be planning stuff out. Weird.

Tom King's Batman I would say is surprisingly emotional -- but also very, very character driven. This month's issue focuses on Batman/Catwoman going on a double-date with Superman/Lois Lane. There are so many fantastic moments between the four.

Batfleck will in fact sign for another round of DCAU (while not called 'Phase 2', it's basically that). How they coaxed him may have to do with him actually getting to direct JL 2.

Same rumor adds that the now super positive Henry Cavill is signing for not just MoS2, but a new Superman trilogy, with two cameos in other movies.

These two breaks were together so I suppose when we get official news on one part, it starts to validate the rest.

More solid news is Suicide Squad 2 may launch in 2019, starts filming in a few months. Aquaman will be darker than JL DESPITE Arthur being one of the brighter characters.

And curiously, the Arrowverse has been trying to use The Question for a long time but WB apparently has plans for him. Didn't say what.
