At the end of the day all that matters is a good story involving a character you like. So many comic book characters are more multi-faceted than one story and one film series.

Getting a new actor wouldn't be so bad if they were telling new stories with him. Part of the reason tom holland's spider-man has been so well praised is that they skipped the uncle ben shit and immediately put him in fresh new stories and situations right out of the gate.

You're missing the point. Cavill's Superman was established well enough where you could take the character new places and tell new stories.

Another round of clark learning his powers and dealing with civilian life is not that.

I'm just excited at another Superman movie, and will cling to hope for it. Cavill did prove himself to me in Joss Whedon's Justice League, but I'm not "mad" about starting fresh with a new actor and "washing any negative associations" away.

From what I am hearing sounds like they are going to "The Batman" it.... where he is young but already knows all the principal characters and is established in his role... but still has room to learn new things and meet villains for the first time

We're talking about a decade of stuff at least before we even get post credits teases of New Gods. By then MCU will be in its 3rd saga where Nova makes a billion dollars.

I always wonder what George Miller's Justice League film would have been like, with OMAC/Brother Eye/Maxwell Lord as the big bads

In hindsight, Armie Hammer being cast as Bats and it not happening did save us from cannibal bat jokes down the line. Adam Brody from the OC probably would have been fine as Barry Allen.

Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths ends after the multi-year build




Nightwing saves the day, it all comes down to Dick Grayson's hope vs Deathstroke's nihilism.

Hints at the JL not returning yet but Nightwing leading a team to tackle new threats JL would normally handle. Definitely a fun issue and event for Dick Grayson fans.

I mean, how do you tell new and interesting stories with characters that have existed for decades? It can't be easy.

That's why I've gravitated towards elseworlds and bkack label stuff. Freeing the story from the confines of the main dcu gives creators more freedom in exploring new ideas, and also keeps things self contained to a small, beginning and end story without having to worry about tying it into future projects.

That's also why I'm more into indie comics now as well.

Reading Bendis' Checkmate series, a follow up on his terrible Event Leviathan....

What is even going on here...

Issue #3 has a giant "WHO IS DAEMON ROSE"? on the front cover.

The name Daemon Rose is not even mentioned in the entire book.

Issue #5 has a shadowy figure on the cover with the caption "THE DAEMON ROSE REVEALED!"

Nowhere in the issue, or any of the issues in between, is the name Daemon Rose referred to.

Read the finale in Checkmate 6

For a few issues they were teasing "The Snowman's Ticket" and revealed him to be a previously unknown brother of Lois Lane, Leonardo Lane. In the 6th issue they used the caption "The Daemon Rose" as his title, and that was the only time it appeared other than the covers. Bendis also kept making Lois and Clark say how much he looks exactly like their son Jon..... which is not how genetics work I'm pretty sure....

The series ended with Leviathan killing off Mark Shaw and Talia Al Ghul taking it over, bringing everything in full circle and making everything with Mark Shaw pretty pointless

Haven't started season 4 of Doom Patrol yet but I love the show so sad to see it go....

Titans I never watched past season 1, which was like watching some sort of odd trainwreck that you felt compelled to continue looking at....

I hope if Booster Gold is successful and gets more seasons that he eventually goes to an alternate Earth and interacts with another Booster Gold, who would be the one introduced in the last episodes of Legends of Tomorrow, and they do a little bit of wrap up on the dangling story. Wishful thinking, and it would probably be like a decade old by then anyways.

Just finished reading Tom King's Rorschach series.... didn't care for the end, but otherwise enjoyed the story/ride.

I will say that it 100% did not need to be a Rorschach series, being only tangentially tied in with a Rorschach and tangentially tied in with the Watchmen universe. Could have told the exact same story in its own universe with some very minor tweaks.

Probably the most "egregious case" of shameless exploitation of the Watchmen brand.

I did enjoy DC's recently relaunched Superman #1

It had the perfect tone and was fun. An easy starting point for anyone wanting to read a Supes comic. (conveniently linked to below)

I’m 3 parts into Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and so far like it more then Joss Whedon’s version. Don’t get me wrong it’s ridiculous that it’s 4 hours long, but enjoyable. There is a lot of slow motion musical choices which are pretty funny, and probably a reason why it’s 4 hours.

One pro-Whedon cut is Steppenwolf’s voice. It way to digitized for my liking in the Snyder version. I’d much rather hear Ciaran Hind’s voice then what I’m hearing now.

I finished Justice League last night. I really liked it, and it is superior over the Whedon version. Now I’m not going to be a soldier Zach Snyder army, but I would want more of these. I know I’m not getting anything else, but I would like it.

It’s not perfect by any means, and I think Snyder didn’t nail the ending. After the big battle they just moved really fast to end it, and we could have had 5 more minutes as crazy as that sounds.

The Knightmare scenes are great even though they pop out of no where, and can be confusing.

I could have used more Darkseid in the movie. I wasn’t that impressed with him. Movie wise I’m going Thanos way over Darkseid in the movies so far.

Just got caught up a few episodes of the final season of The Flash.

Last episode featured a time thief... how hard would it have been to sneak in a Legends of Tomorrow appearance, even if it was just a small cameo to show their final fate wasn't being thrown in time jail....

Even more "irksome" when the showrunner stated he wanted to do a two-part episode featuring the Legends but "didnt have space" with the shortened season. But then there have been multiple "filler episodes".

Missed opportunity if Michael Rooker doesn't play Lex in some kind of capacity. One of those movies/series that are outside the main timeline.

Watched the series finale of The Flash.... the final four episode story-arc was pretty decent...

Really liked Eddie coming back and chewing the scenery via descending into madness.

How you not gonna bring Wally West back for the finale, though? Especially with the end introducing a new "generation" of Speedsters. You brought Wally in for an episode earlier in the season so not like the actor was like "nah, I ain't coming back to this show".

The finale itself didn't "hit" as hard as it could due to many of the core cast/characters having already left and been replaced by people I just never got as much into. I wish some of them would have showed up for the final battle... was like "wut" when Cecile started flying and being ultra powerful. Should have had Wally and Jay there from the start of the battle.... screw the shirtless ice guy who was a terrible addition to the main cast.

And so the "Arrowverse" comes to a close with a whimper, but it was quite the ride for the years that we had it. End of an era...

Forgot to comment on all the Superman: Legacy news that came out while I was on vacation...

Metamorpho, Mr. Terrific, Hawkgirl, and Green Lantern Guy Gardner were all cast to appear in the movie. (Nathan Fillian as Guy Gardner).

Seems like maybe it is already falling for old DCEU missteps in trying to do and introduce too much.... just make a good Superman movie that focuses just on telling a good Superman story. It shouldn't be that hard.

I just finished The Flash(tv show) and have to say it could have ended a lot worse.

Now the 1st part of the 4 part finale was actually the best part of the finals, and should been the 4th part. Still though it wasn’t bad. Also the Stephen Amell episode had some really good moments.

The season has a whole was terrible though, and I’m glad it’s over.

I think superhero fatigue definitely exists, and it has been just exacerbated by bad scripts and odd choices2 Years ago the highest grossing super hero film ever released and its far and away the top grossing film of the decade, especially domestically. Far From Home. The only two films in the genre above it in gross are Infinity War and Endgame. Thats just 2 years ago. Since then the offerings have been pretty weak and the ticket sales reflect that. If a strong IP is on the marquee with a good hook people will go and in historically consistent numbers.

I'm re-reading the "DC Rebirth" series "Green Lanterns".... forgot how freaking good it was, and how awesome the team of Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz was.... sucks that ever since the end of that series (even before the end of that series really) they have really been pushed aside and squandered.....

They are both so much better characters/more interesting than the two "biggest" Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart.....

Feel like ever since DC shutdown WildStorm and merged their universes they have been trying real hard to make the WildStorm characters a "thing" but they never catch on and they've just keep being randomly shoved into stories and places to try to make them a "thing".... then it doesn't catch on and they go away until the next time they are awkwardly tried to be made a thing.....

Been re-reading the Superman Rebirth era.... big mistake.... shaking my head all over again at how DC could have possibly let Bendis come in and ruin it all by aging up Jon....

Re-reading some Super Sons stuff now, feel like he also indirectly messed up Damian too... I guess he wasn't writing any of the stuff with Damian but I feel like if the Super Sons were still around then Damian wouldn't have "reverted" to being super dark, getting a crappy new costume devoid of colour, and in general feeling like a different character.

Season 2 has been good, liking the Kara story....

Will be like the third time DC trying their own "Ultimate" line after the "All-Star" books and the "Earth One" books..... but I enjoyed the Superman stories from both of those a lot so, excited to see this one.

I like what we've seen so far, I read Gunn is shooting everything in IMAX too. People with sharper eyes have spotted a Maxwell Lord logo on Mr Terrific, Hawkgirl and Guy's gear so they must indeed be some sort of team, hmmm.

I do see the "issue" Blonde Moment might be seeing, in that it has all these other heroes shoehorned in there.... but I'm not ready to disqualify it for that. For one, who knows how much they are actually in it.... Secondly, a lot of great Superman stories have appearances by other heroes but are still Suoerman stories.

Was "surprised" to look online and see that apparently people hate on the run. I think it is pretty good... pretty "cinematic" and "larger than life"....

Just read Absolute Batman #1 and it was excellent. A take on Batman that fits the fears of today and a ton of surprising, fresh twists you won't see coming.

Gotta say that I don't like DC doing all these things like Infinite Frontier/Dawn of DC/All In....... just feels too "Marvel"-y where they just want to make everything "new" all the time.... constantly starting things over with new #1s, etc....

Back in my day continuity and stories could actually be built over "years" without needing to worry about the next big event or the whole publishing line restarting....

Jason Mamoa cast as Lobo for the upcoming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow film.

Probably fits that role better than Aquaman.... But by now I am too used to him as Aquaman. Should have got someone else.

First Aquaman movie is still one of the finest superhero movies of the modern era.

Also in general, still not a fan of them adapting that Supergirl story... It wasn't great. Lot better things they could have used.

Finally got through and read Dark Crisis (on Infinite Earths). The story was largely "naff"... some good ideas here and there, a few cool moments, but overall pretty messy.... Also can I say how much I hate a big event ending with an epilogue teasing the next big event? Back in my day, sure, events could tease upcoming new series or stories... but they would be mostly a complete story and wouldn't be already trying to sell you on the next crossover.

Taking a break to go read more old comics again....

Big event comics these days often feel like they’re more advertising copy for the next marketing push than a self contained story, absolutely feel you on that. I liked the sound of Dark Crisis but it definitely got messy fast. Sometimes going back to comics I read years ago and how complete the storytelling used to feel, sounds like the right move.

"My Adventures with Green Lantern" animated series announced... in the same universe as My Adventures with Superman.

Going to start high school student Jessica Cruz.

Hope it leads to Cruz getting more respect/attention in the comics again. The Jessica Cruz/Simon Baz team was some of the best Green Lantern stuff ever.

After HUSH 2 ends in September, Matt Fraction will take over writing Batman monthly. Jorge Jiminez will remain the artist. Fraction said each issue will be a complete story, the opposite of what DC has done in the past with 5-6 issue arcs.

Really enjoying DC's Absolute line thus far


Absolute Batman and Wonder Woman in particular have been great. Supes is also very good.

Absolute Flash and surprisingly Absolute Martian Manhunter also both look excellent and I am excited to read.

Cool about Matt Fraction... I think I read some of his stuff "back in the day" and enjoyed it... cool about the each issue being done in one. Paul Dini Batman did that too and it was great.

Yeah, it seems like every time a new writer gets ahold of the main Batbook they decide they have to "change Batman forever" in some way...will be so nice to not have that.

I think that's why I like Mark Waid's stuff a lot too, like his World's Finest. He isn't trying to "change everything forever' he just sets out to tell a good story about Batman and Supes and other DC characters.

Picked up volume 1 and 2 of Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning's "The Legion" (of Super-Heroes) for cheap and they were pretty great..... only thing is they never collected the rest of the run, and now I really want to read it.....

Watched the first episode of Peacemaker Season 2.... off to a good start.

I am wondering how many kids will be watching it though, after seeing Superman and hearing this is the next part of the universe.

I feel like that in general is gonna be a "problem" for the new DCU... tone being all over... which would be ok if it was just different characters, but then you have Green Lantern/Hawkgirl swearing and making "adult" jokes and comments.... but then suddenly they don't swear or act like that in movies....
