Seriously "upset" right now. Like nothing I have ever read matters anymore. I can only hope and pray that this is going to be a temporary thing like how Marvel did after Onslaught and that things will return to "normal" soon.
Terrible, just terrible.

I like Clark's duds, happy to see the underwear gone. Not fond of replacing Diana's gold with silver. Aqua Man and Hal look like always. I HOPE they don't screw with Batman's INC suit. All this talk about new era this and that only for them to change the costume anyway. In fact this voids a lot of recent stuff...
Interesting in a Geoff/Lee JL run, though.

Like I said-
If it's written by Grant Morrison, I'll give it a shot.... everything else... unless something changes in my head, I don't really care... I'll just get what catches my eye either in singles or trade (I could wait as long as my life a bit more active and I continue my streak in trying not to be so recluse) and I will be a lot more strict if I decide to subscribe to a book because I need get less comics and not more.
I think it'll make people even more selective because they know in a few years that book won't mean shit..... which is why i stopped bagging 98% of my comics about a year ago. i'd get shit by grant Morrison, but i can honestly just wait for the trades cause i like hardcovers/sofcovers better than single issues and as long as i'm not mad bored during that time, i can wait... i'll see.

Grant Morrison is apparently to write one of the new Superman series.
Nowhere Man
06-01-2011, 12:36 AM
This is almost guaranteed to go over like a fart in church. It just reeks of gimmicky bullshit.
Also, I hate how so many redesigns of Superman's costume have a high collar like that. How's that supposed to hide under Clark's regular clothes? I mean, he's already got enough logistical problems with the cape and the boots, he doesn't need that extra bit popping up over the top of his work clothes.
Actually, looking at that picture, is everyone going to have to have that V-neck high collar? I mean, you gave Wonder Woman a necklace, just so she can have that V-neck collar look going on. Fucking stop it!

Oh, and while I'm on the subject of bitching about the costume re-designs, didn't they just change Wonder Woman's costume back to the original look because everyone hated Lee's redesign? And now for the reboot he's changing it right back, out of spite I can only assume.

If they're going to reboot it, they should at least be doing it after an epic Crisis on Infinite Earths-like story.
Not an alternate reality story that is inevitable a story about The Flash.

I think it'll be quite interesting to see what they do and don't keep post-reboot, but this still seems like a pretty awful idea.
If they want to jettison continuity baggage, they should have just stuck with something like the All Star range instead of just doing it right across the board.
Lock Jaw

If there's anything I learned about comic book mythologies, especially DC comics, is to never get used to anything. It was only a matter of time before they went this route. It just seems abrupt and desperate and disrespectful to recent projects aimed to shake things up.
Marvel sticks to their guns. Most retcons are under the hood and barely noticeable. Other things, like Bucky Cap, dead Uncle Ben, dead-ish Jean Grey, Wolverine's origin, faction changes, status changes, power changes; Marvel has a much better track record than DC sticking to their guns.

It seems Wonder Woman's streetwise stint was a prototype for this costume. I'm alright with it, but I rather have more gold.

Kalyx triaD
06-03-2011, 04:37 AM
I didn't read DC comics weekly, but I kept up for ages. Who lives, who dies, what the year's big event is.
Now I probably won't give a shit unless they do this wisely and reboot things softly. This may not be the case because you can't have Dick-Batman if you're de-aging Bruce. You can't have Supergirl or Connor if you're essentially importing Earth One 'Twilight' Clark. You can't have Cassie if Diana's reverted to her early twenties.
This reboot potentially shits on DC's entire 'youth' generation which, ironically, should have been the ones to lead DC's push for new readers in the first place.

Gonna cut down on Marvel as well.. gonna try to limit myself to 10-12 books a month,... I'll see in a few months for sure.

Green Lantern titles revealed: http://www.newsarama.com/comics/dcnu-new-green-lantern-110603.html
Looks like all four Earth Green Lanterns are still around, along with all the other colors of the rainbow. Red Lanterns still getting their own series too. Pretty much the same writers handling the various series as well.
Really confused about this now, though. How much of the GL history is intact? Hal being Paralax? Sinestro Corps War? Blackest Night? War of the Green Lanterns? WHAAAT IS GOING ON?!
Lock Jaw
06-03-2011, 02:44 PM
"It's building off the Green Lantern stories I've done since 'Rebirth,'"
"'Green Lantern' 1 picks up a few months later in a very different space than we are now," Johns said. "When you see the cover you'll know exactly what I'm talking about."
Is this a reboot, or is this not a reboot? SO very confused.

No idea what the hell is going on with this "reboot". Good news is Damian is still around. Who knows how that works with the altered history.
Barbara Gordon is back as Batgirl, no sign of Stephanie Brown (which is a shame because I loved her as Batgirl). No sign of Tim Drake yet.
Dick back as Nightwing, but apparently his stint as Batman is still "in continuity".
Birds of Prey with no sign of the regular cast except for a badly redesigned Black Canary.
Some Red Hood and The Outlaws series that has Red Hood, a two-armed Aresnal/Red Arrow, and Starfire on the cover. Who knows if Red Hood is Jason, or Tim, or someone new...
Some new series called "Batwing" that seems to have a black Batman dude for sake of diversity.
I really don't know what is happening.
The Destroyer
06-06-2011, 06:25 PM
I really don't get what DC are trying to achieve with this now. If you're rebooting something, do you really want to have 4 Batman books on the go right from the start?
And can the continuity reboot really be that extreme if Morrison is still going to be able to finish his overall arc on Batman? This makes less sense with every new detail that emerges.

06-10-2011, 07:59 PM
I'm hoping that's just a bad job of inking, because it makes Superman's suit look like it's some high-tech/armored suit deal, and when he's already invincible, that's just.....kind of pointless. Also, that cover makes it look like he's wrecking up the place--so I guess Lex Luthor was right all along?
And we're back to making the Kryptonians a bunch of egotistical dick-wads who don't like humanity again, judging from the synopsis they've given of Supergirl. Between this and the New Krypton story from the soon-to-be-defunct continuity, I find myself feeling rather glad that their planet blew up.
Oh, and Superboy's apparently doing a Wolverine "superhuman weapon" thing now. Weapon-S, if you will.

Superman's belt should be yellow ffs. The art's just bad but otherwise I don't mind the suit. Losing the trunks was something I looked forward to.
Nowhere Man
06-10-2011, 08:09 PM
I actually like the trunks. Yes, they're outdated and everyone makes the joke about how he's wearing his underwear on the outside, but it at least breaks up all of the blue. Without them, the costume just looks really monotone, just lots of blue with red on the bottom and in the back (with the boots and cape I mean). The belt breaks it up a bit, but not very much.
Nowhere Man
06-10-2011, 08:17 PM
Why are they doing this again?
To try and get attention from the mainstream media. Just like when they gave Wonder Woman her stupid 'mean streets' look, or when they turned Superman blue and gave him those retarded electrical powers. It's just a cheap and desperate attempt to get a spike in sales by appealing to the curiosity of non-fans, the people who don't even like their comics in the first fucking place.

Honestly, that would not surprise me in the least. I can almost guaran-damn-tee you this shit will only last a year or so, until the novelty and shock value wear off and half of the new lineup tanks. Then DC will do another event with the 'triumphant return' of the classic DC Universe and set things back to where they were before the reboot.

I really need to rework my pull list and condense things to less comics and only get what excites me the most, not just get books cause I'm bored and heard the book is good...cause since ever since April... fucking awesome. I could care less about the distracting CGI 3-D stuff. Had funny dialogue too.. Wayy up there with the humor of Iron Man. Stay during the end credits castlist cos there's an extra ending with Sinestro...
Hal Jordan by Ryan Reynolds is almost as cocky and a prick like Tony Stark.. His humor too. :P I loved the part where he tried reciting the Lantern Corps oath when he tried on the Green ring by quoting, "TO INFINITY AND BEYOND ALA TOY STORY TO HE-MAN, "BY THE POWER OF GRAY--- WHAT THE HELL AM I SUPPOSE TO SAY?!?!" LOLZ moment.
And stay for the start of the end credits roll, another scene for a sequel involving, Sinestro and the yellow ring forged by the guardians to defeat Parallax the main villain.
10/10.
Full marks from that guy pretty much means it's shit.

Went to a midnight screening.
It was a CGI-fest, but it almost had to be because of the nature of the film.
Reynolds was solid as Jordan. I do buy him as more of a Flash, but that's just me.
I actually enjoyed it, but that's because I'm a Green Lantern nerd. And, the theater was packed.

100 Bullets gonna possibly be a TV Show:
Deadline reports that David S. Goyer is attached to write and executive produce an adaptation of the Vertigo crime series for Showtime. Warner Bros. Television is producing.
I know a lot of people loved 100 Bullets. Did not care for it myself, and will probably pass on the TV Series unless I start hearing great things about it.

Anne [Hathaway]'s outfit is more tactical, like the comic book, than the previous Batman movies. She will definitely be wearing the goggles and it's going to be less sexy than Halle Berry and Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman costumes. She's going to look more like a robber. But fan boys shouldn't be worried. This costume is going to be form-fitting enough to make Anne look smoking hot. Everything from the looks in her eyes, her head movements, her body–everything is so feline. The role is taking her to new places.

I hate seeing bad productions. I feel there's very little reason to suck that bad. You don't have to rewrite history, or break records, but don't do silly things like cast Ryan funny-man Reynolds as a founding member of the Justice League, and have an all CG suit trying to make some technical point.
And I read about the requisite after-movie scene. No comment there, other than next time they wanna bite off Marvel Studios - plan it out.

From all the story rumors, character castings and spoiler I read, I think it's doubtful. If they were going to do No Man's Land, they'd have had to have Gotham be destroyed in the first one so they can spend three films building it back up. I think Nolan's going in different direction to help tie up the story and end on a high note.

I agree, but No Man's Land is such a giant arc that it'd be a waste of time to tie it into the final film of a trilogy. If they're going to do it, they should either release via DC Animated, or, when the series reboots, start from the beginning.

It is like DC is trying real hard to get me to hate Superman.
New reports on the reboot saying that both Ma and Pa Kent are going to be dead, and Superman is going to be more "alien" and less "Clark Kent"/human. Hence why he takes to wearing the "Kryptonian battle armor". More focus on him being "alienated" and "isolated" rather than "human".
Pretty sure all of that is the opposite of what Superman should be. The point of Superman, a point that we just had some massive storylines about, is that he isn't just an alien. He think and feels like a human. Clark Kent is Superman. Not Superman is Clark Kent.
Then there is Supergirl, who they seem to have reset to just arriving to Earth again, and thus are going to also be doing the whole "alienated"/"isolated"/"not sure if she wants to be a hero" thing. In recent years they finally moved past all of that and actually made Supergirl enjoyable. Now it is back to square one with a bad costume.
Then Superboy, I don't even know what the hell is going on with.

Sounds like they're trying to add an unnecessary layer of depth with Supes by passing him off as some out of place loner, which, even to me, a non Superman fan, is kind of ridiculous. His charm and selling point is that, even though he is an alien, and even though he's a God amongst men, he's still one of them, and and fights for them because they are his people.
Otherwise, why in God's name would he care to fight for Earth. If he is alienated/isolated, has no parents to lacth onto or protect, and has no real other deep, personal, resonating reason to protect Earth, what's the point?
Maybe I'm missing something...
Nowhere Man
07-19-2011, 04:04 PM
The Clark Kent mindset was what I always loved about Superman. Even though he's an invulnerable, nigh-omnipotent alien, he always just saw himself as a country yokel who grew up on a farm. When he's not punching out gods and bench-pressing continents, he'd be watching football with his dad or taking his wife out to dinner. Kind of the opposite of Batman, who absolutely has to believe his own hype in order to be who he is, Superman does unbelievable things but doesn't believe his hype at all. That was what made Superman a great character: that juxtaposition of the absolutely incredible and the everyday and mundane.
This, though? Now he's just fucking Doctor Manhattan.
Also:
http://i.newsarama.com/images/JUSTL_Cv2_asjdhfkajhsdkfjasyar.jpg
So we're just jumping straight into the comic where Superman gets the shit beaten out of him by Batman like every single other crossover in the last thirty years? I mean, I know every writer since Frank Miller has taken turns making Superman look like shit so Batman looks cooler by comparison (basically making him the Cyclops to Bruce's Wolverine), but could you at least bother to build the guy up a little bit before jobbing him out to Batman?

If there was one thing I liked about Byrne's reboot of Superman back in the 80s (I infinitely prefer Mark Waid's take on the origin myself), it would be the fact that he brought Ma and Pa Kent back and kept them as recurring characters. It made him much more identifiable, the idea that even though he's indestructible, he doesn't know everything, and still has to go home every once in a while to get advice from his dad.
So of course we're doing away with that so he can bitch and moan about how he doesn't fit in with humans.

This whole thing is indicative of my main issue with DC. When Marvel launched the Ultimate line (not exactly the same thing, I know, but a similar idea), they kept it simple. X-Men, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Avengers. It was only when they started to get really convoluted and overpopulated that the whole line came crumbling down. DC does a relaunch, and we've got seven Bat-books right out of the gate. DC never does anything simple.

If this was a separate continuity altogether like Ultimate Marvel, I wouldn't have anywhere near as big of a problem with it as I do. I don't really have an issue with making him black, it is all the same to me.... but can't picture Fishbourne being a good Perry.

Cowboy Curtis as Perry White...
Will have to think on this a while.

Perry White was basically the prototype for J. Jonah Jameson, the loud boisterous overbearing boss who hounds poor Jimmy and only puts up with Lois's back-talk because she's an awesome reporter. Granted, he's not as much of a total bastard as Jameson, but he's still supposed to be the old news-room lion.
I really just can't see Morpheus being able to pull that off. Plus, I'm getting really sick of supporting characters in long-standing superhero series suddenly getting race-changed for no other reason than 'because we need more black people.' Is it really that hard just to create a new character?

Being my favorite hero, I reserve the right to nitpick small details. I don't like the texture of the suit. Looks like he has scales. Also not digging Cavill's look judging on one picture. His face just does not look like someone I would trust.

Henry looks great. Love how he has a certain intensity in eyes. Routhe really lacked that in the last film. Hoping this is good.
And I agree with LJ. Better see some red undies when he walks out of that shadow.

Cool enough Superman pic, but to be honest I'm kinda bored with Superman movies, and with Batman being the only exception, DC movies generally tend to suck nowadays.

Superman Returns wasn't that good. Catwoman and Jonah Hex were fucking awful. Haven't seen Green Lantern but that's received nothing much but bad reviews. All of DC's off-shoot movies received mixed reviews, films like Watchmen, V For Vendetta etc. (I liked V for the record, but found WM incredibly boring after the first half hour).
All's I'm saying is that outside of Batman, DC doesn't really have a great track record, not since the original Superman movies anyway. And of those, 3 and 4 were also crappy.
I'm still standing by my original statement earlier in this thread that the only thing that could really spike my interest in a Superman movie is if he had a fucking monster of an opponent like Doomsday.

Plus, we have Batman next year AND The Avengers!!! Couldn't give a fuck about Superman right about now.
Of course, I'll probably eat my words in a couple of years time once this movie has made a billion dollars and been ranked better than The Dark Knight etc.

If Zach Snyder makes a better film than Christopher Nolan (not just talking about the Dark Knight Series VS the new Superman movie, but EVER in their entire careers), then I will eat my hat.

The invincible guy still shouldn't be wearing armor.
Also, maybe I'm wrong, but the numbered robots there might be a throwback to the old Max Fleischer Superman cartoon "The Mechanical Monsters." Which, I'll admit, is a nice little shout-out if that's what they're doing.
Still doesn't make me want to buy it, though.

JLA #1 hasn't even come out and it's already the best sold book of 2011. Apparently over 100,000 pre-orders have been made. Tons of pre-orders have also been made for other series. Interesting. Still not buying shit tho. Pissed about this crap.

By the way, I fucking hate it.
Guaranteed it will look better on film than it does in those shitty candid set shots. I get that. But that's not the point. Superman's outfit is ICONIC. I thought it was bad enough that Singer shrunk his symbol down and put gay little "S" marks all over him, but what Snyder's doing might be worse. There's no reason to nix the red underwear look. It's a trademark in his outfit and he looks WRONG without them.
This, of course, is purely my opinion.

I've been waiting for Clark to lose the trunks for years, I just really think a yellow belt would round out his color set. I learned at a Superman portion of a local museum that primary colors made Superman distinct, now he's like this blue/red thing. He needs a yellow belt.
Lock Jaw
08-24-2011, 02:54 PM
I think the movie one does have the yellow belt. At least, it looked kinda gold/yellow in the official picture.
But, yeah, he should have trunks and never ever should lose them.

I like the new Superman and Supergirl look. I don't think the trunks are always necessary just like the yellow oval in the Batman symbol isn't always needed. I do however prefer Supergirl with a mini skirt, it looks cool.

New Supergirl's top half is nice, hints at an overall regal look. Then it gets glaringly slutty for no reason.

The trunks SHOULD be necessary. They really tied the costume together.
The invincible guy still shouldn't be wearing armor.

I don't have a problem with the armored look. To me, it's less about the fact that he's invincible and more about the fact that his costume was built to withstand punishment and not get destroyed every time he gets shot/stabbed/etc.
Back on subject of the set pictures, I think the guy in black on the right is probably Zod.
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/6/68385/1329855-zod_2_super.jpg
But who is the character on the left? Or is the character on the right Ursa (looks a bit more feminine), and Zod is on the left wearing some crazy outfit?
Lock Jaw
08-24-2011, 07:24 PM
It is Faora in the picture.
Whoever the other dude is, he may be crazy tall, because he has a stick extending from the top of his head for an eyeline. Perhaps they decided to randomly have Non be a CGI super big guy.

Costume does look pretty weird without the trunks. Either way I'm still feeling pretty pesimistic about this movie. I'm sure it'll make shit-loads of cash due to cinema-goers checking it out, but I really don't think maybe people outside of actual Superman fans giving a shit about Superman anymore. The whole 'invincible guy' thing just doesn't work anymore. It's why people love characters like Spider-Man and Batman, because they're not invincible and have flaws. Or why Hancock (which was an okay film) was an interesting character because he was invincible but an alcoholic.
Plus I've said this many times, but I don't want to see Superman facing Lex Luthor or human-in-appearance enemies anymore. It's 2011, give me Doomsday, Darkseid, Lobo or someone who will look badass on the screen, and will look like they can actually fuck shit up.
I'll reserve proper judgment until I see the movie, but these are my opinions now, before anything has even been released.

Plus I've just noticed, considering he's one of the most famous super heroes of all time, Superman has a fucking awful rogues gallery. I really struggled to think of Darkseid (though I love Doomsday), and Lobo is hardly a 'villain'. I mean, apart from Lex Luthor, who else is there that people outside of the DC fanbase would know?

I don't have a problem with the armored look. To me, it's less about the fact that he's invincible and more about the fact that his costume was built to withstand punishment and not get destroyed every time he gets shot/stabbed/etc.
The old costume didn't get ripped up all the time either. There's no need to turn it into redundant armor plating that's got to be significantly weaker than the guy wearing it.
And I absolutely fucking haaaate the no-trunks look. Without them to break up the monotony, my eye is drawn away from the \S/ and towards that big blue space in the middle of his torso. It's distracting, and frankly bland.
More to the point, it's completely fucking unnecessary. Like Fox said, the Superman costume is absolutely iconic. It's ingrained in the popular consciousness, and is a timeless look. So what if the trunks are outdated and old-school? Superman IS an old-school hero--hell, he's THE old-school hero! Superman stood on the ruins of the pulp era, lashed together the corpses of Doc Savage and the Phantom, and built the fucking old school! DC and WB should be proud of the fact that they've got the progenitor and the gold-standard of all superhero mythology, instead of acting ashamed of it and trying to shit all over 73 years of legacy by dressing him up in shitty fan-art designs to make him look more 'modern.' You don't fuck with a timeless look in order to catch up with temporary trends. That's what I can't stand about the DCnU look, and it's what I can't stand about Snyderman.
I won't even go into all the things that suck about Supergirl's new costume.

I always think DC in general (Batman aside) has a far less well known rogues gallery, but Superman just seems to have a really poor one given his status in the DC Universe.
Bizarro is the only other one I'd call relatively well known.

LuigiD
08-25-2011, 09:48 AM
Yeah..I totally stand with Rammsteinmad with this issue.
Part of the reason why I always run away from DC comics is that the villains just don't appeal to me. With the exception of the Batman rogues and a few here and there..it is pretty awful.
LL is boring to me. If they are going to bring him in, at least add something new. Lets see the Luthor warsuit or something. Part of the reason of Superman's boredom is the lack of villains as pointed before. Hearing James Robinson speak at a convention once..he mentioned how hard it is to write for Superman. Just..to come up with credible threats for a man that is pretty much flawless is tough on writers.
My greatest hope is that after this reboot of the Superman franchise that we will actually get to see Superman vs Doomsday on the big screen. It HAS to happen. It's the most iconic big-time fight in DC history - the one where Superman is actually killed and reborn - it's the fucking Jesus Christ story of superheroes, and the film industry has the technology to do it right and give us a 30-minute long action packed super fight that will be incredible.
But that's banking on the idea that TMOS won't bomb.
