Meanwhile, Allison Mack has just been sentenced to 3 years in prison.

Gail Simone did a Q&A on Twitter earlier about the New 52, which mainly consisted of people telling her titles they loved during it and also asking why everything was disjointed and confusing and seemed unorganized...

Turns out everything was unorganized because DC didn't tell anyone what was happening with other titles and didn't really explain what they wanted to accomplish with the New 52 to any of their writers lol. That explains things like why Supes/Wonder Woman were having a romance in Geoff Johns Justice League while Supes had given up his costume and was going in a totally different direction wearing jeans in Grant Morrison's supes run at the same time.

Sounds like Batman was the most organized, by total accident of Dan Didio saying Batman was too popular to change much of his history so just include everything and make it up however you want to say it happened now.

Even still, in a post Dan Didio DC, it seems like DC just lets big writers do whatever they want and not worry if it doesn't vibe with other titles/stories featuring the characters.


Grant Morrison's recent run on Green Lantern was very Grant and esoteric (the GL rings are actually alive and you can go inside them and visit a genie like figure) which didn't really vibe with anything else happening in GL comics.


Brian Bendis, in the last month, has already abandoned the new DC Omniverse concept and has characters talking about the DCU being made up of only 52 planets and has Damian Wayne going by Robin, something he's given up in all the other bat books currently.

Mangas tend to tell damn good stories. I remember having to read "Barefoot Gen" in high school. Had an AP English class that focused on Japanese culture. Hard read, but really told the story of the nuclear bombings in a light I hadn't seen before.

Sounds like its a pretty open relationship. If i remember the schematic correctly Scott and Logan each adjoining rooms to Jeans. So Scott basically turns a blind eye to Logan and Jean ignores Scott sneaking off yo Emma's once in a while. I still feel Xavier has tampers with most of the Mutants minds in some manner to get them to all coexist as once big semi happy family. (villains gotta plot) The coolest thing for me was what was done with Apocalypse and made his whole survival of the fittest ideology make more sense.

Major DC news:

James Tynion IV is leaving Batman and DC Comics. He's gotten 'the deal of a lifetime' to create his own stuff on substack, where he'll own all the rights. Tynion's reign on the main Bat title sent it's sales thru the roof and his stuff for (I think) Image, Department of Truth, in particular has been some of the biggest sales of the year in comics.

His last issue is in November. No clue who takes over next, fingers crossed it is NOT Bendis.

Much like his Nightwing book, I've enjoyed Tom Taylor's supes book so far. He seems to be making Henry Bendix, of Wildstorm, into Jon's big nemesis. Jon Kent is an interesting character (though I too miss when he and Damian were the same age, like Lock Jaw...Damian has made an appearance in the series already though, so they seem to be keeping them as best pals). The guy who will be his boyfriend, Jay Nakamura isn't very well defined as a character so far.

Tom Taylor signed an exclusive contract at DC. Enjoying his Nightwing run and Superman: Son of Kalel run...hope this means he can replace Bendis on Justice League. Bendis's JL is GOD AWFUL. Everything Bendis writes in DC feels so disconnected from everything else, he just ignores continuity and does whatever he wants. I have no idea how he was ever considered a good writer, he's absolutely terrible. His stories are boring and nothing happens 80% of the time in them.

Josh Williamson's debut issue of Batman (118) was really, really good. Batman Inc is back and I love the twist that the first villain his Bats goes up against will be:

There was a big Legion of Superheroes miniseries in the 80s called 'The Great Darkness Saga' which centered around Darkseid awaking in the 30th Century after losing to Orion in battle centuries before. Darkseid was referred to as 'The Great Darkness'

Death Metal was all about making the previous crises into one overlapping story. It revealed the real reason behind the multiple crises that kept rebooting the multiverse was Perpetua. Perpetua was a rogue member of 'The Hands'. Perpetua created the Monitor and Anti-Monitor. She was the whisper in the ear of Superboy Prime for Infinite Crisis, the whisper in the ear of Darkseid that led to Final Crisis, the whisper in the ear of Barry Allen that led to Flashpoint. She wanted to keep the DC in a perpetual state of reboot, because the 'crisis energy' made her more and more powerful each time. Her goal was to one day become powerful enough to overthrow 'The Hands'. She was defeated.

Now that everything matters and everything happened, it created a bit of a problem, as Darkseid is now all previous versions of himself, combined at once. He's never been so powerful.

All powerful Darkseid has become aware of something that exists outside of the Multiverse and has been dormant 'since before the first crisis'...The Great Darkness. Darkseid used The Flash running between universes to cause a crack in the multiverse, revealing the great darkness beyond.

Justice Incarnate, a team of JL made up of members from throughout the Multiverse, and was formed in the series Multiversity to stop The Empty Hand, has decided to stop Darkseid from finding the multiversal crack and using it to absorb the power of the darkness...However, Darkseid is not the ONLY character in DC whose become aware of 'The Great Darkness' and the power it holds...

And of course, The Empty Hand:
A being of total Darkness, he represents the hand of the reader when they close a book uninterested, and his goal is the opposite of Perpetua, she wanted DC in a constant state of reboot, The Empty Hand wants DC gone forever, no more stories left to be told. I wonder if he's meant to also be the opposite of 'The Hands' that create multiverses as well. I wonder if he comes from 'The Great Darkness' itself possibly.

So that is where things currently are, with Darkseid and The Empty Hand ready to battle one another for the crack in the multiverse. Nekron, Eclipso and The Upside Down Man haven't shown themselves...yet. But whomever wins, we know one thing is certain, 'The Great Darkness' is coming and it will almost certainly be the focus of the next CRISIS in the DCU.

Based on the old Legion of Superheroes story I mentioned towards the beginning of this post, my best guess as to what 'The Great Darkness' is...well I think that:

However, there is still one more variable introduced in the recent DC series Infinite Frontier that has yet to come into play: Pariah

During the first crisis Pariah was a scientist who developed the rather horrible ability of being transported to each world in the multiverse before it was destroyed, forced to witness countless endings. Pariah appeared at the end of Infinite Frontier, eyes blacked out (possessed by The Great Darkness or maybe a servant of it perhaps), revealed he was in the Multiverse The Empty Hand had been feeding on for years, one that pre-dated the First Crisis. Pariah then transported The Flash into his own Earth. Pariah, as you can see below, has a rather different ending in mind for things in the DCU. Hmmm...

Well, whatever DC is building is certainly going to be interesting...DC just announced they are cancelling and killing off The Justice League with issue 75 (literally, killing off). Joshua Williamson, whose been crafting Infinite Frontier and Justice Incarnate that I've discussed above, will be taking over JL as headwriter for one, final issue:

30 years ago, DC Comics killed Superman. From this far-off vantage point, we know that the Man of Steel got better eventually. But after being beaten to death by the monster Doomsday in the pages of Superman #75, Clark Kent was gone from DC comics for almost a full calendar year. His absence felt real.


This time, more than one hero will die. The current Justice League comic will come to an end with issue #75 (recognize that number?), a story that will see DC's greatest superheroes killed in battle against an unstoppable enemy. Yes, really — the Justice League is going to die.


"It's very serious," writer Joshua Williamson tells EW. "We want people to understand, this is serious and this is gonna have a major impact in the DCU moving forward. Three months later, there's still not gonna be a Justice League comic. It's gonna be a while, and that's gonna be a major part of what the DCU looks like after this story: There is no Justice League."


Williamson, who penned last year's Infinite Frontier event and the follow-up series Justice League Incarnate, is swooping in to bring this iteration of the comic to an explosive end that will take the epic over-story he's been building into its next chapter.


"Ever since Infinite Frontier #0, we've been building to this story," Williamson says. "Last year was a lot of fun and games, but when this story starts, it's the beginning of the third act. We're going to see things get darkest before the dawn. The Justice League gets called in to fight this Dark Army that's been building on the edge of the multiverse. They go up against this Dark Army and they lose."


"We'll get to see what the ramifications are of losing the Justice League," Williamson says. "You'll get to see how the new heroes react, how some of the heroes that have been around for a while react, you'll see how people on the ground react to this idea of the Justice League dying, and then you'll get to see how all the villains react. What happens when they know the Justice League is gone?"


That's all for the future, though. In and of itself, Justice League #75 will focus on the apocalyptic battle between the Justice League and the Dark Army in a dead multiverse. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern (John Stewart), Martian Manhunter, Hawkgirl, Aquaman, Green Arrow, Black Canary, and Zatanna will embark on this mission — and only one will return to tell the rest of the universe what has happened.


Justice League #75 hits comic stores on April 19.

I see some on reddit speculating DC could be merged with the Consumer Products division, which is who handles licensing.

That would be interesting to have licensing people run the comics. I suppose at some point if they decided DC printing them was not profitable enough they could license the characters out to other companies to print, like Boom, IDW, Dark Horse, etc.

Haven't watched any of S2 other than the first episode, but apparently Superman & Lois officially made it clear that it is no longer part of the Arrow/CWVerse, and it is on a world with only Superman.

"They think an unspeakable Batgirl is going to be irredeemable," the source said, pointing to the film's alleged reception at test screenings. The news was quickly corroborated by The Wrap and The Hollywood Reporter, though neither outlet claimed it was due to its poor quality. Variety, meanwhile, seemed to put the entire matter to rest: "Studio insiders insist the decision was not driven by the quality of the film or the commitment of the filmmakers, but by the desire for the studio’s slate of DC features to be at a blockbuster scale." The film is estimated to have cost between $70 and $100 million at the time of its cancellation.

According to Variety, several sources have stated that Warner Bros. Discovery will take a tax write-down on Batgirl, and the recently canceled Scoob! Holiday Haunt, which is "seen internally as the most financially sound way to recoup the costs (at least, on an accountant’s ledger)." However, should Warner Bros. choose to move forward with that strategy, the studio would be unable to monetize Batgirl in the future. This means that Warner Bros. would be prevented from releasing the DC Extended Universe film on streaming or in theaters, as well as selling the film to another studio, at any point down the road.

Discovery really putting in quality work right. Its 101 but theyve not missed a step so far. Getting as lean as they can across all of their assets and start getting the debt WB had under control. This stock is a great investment. In ten years this is going to be a very healthy company if they keep doing what theyre doing. Get lean, strategically grow once your debt is handled, then expand. Hopefully they can get some new scripts that wont cost them millions (or start any hilariously bad apps while theyre at it.)

Hard to judge the rumor. His projects are well financed and well marketed so it certainly serves them well. Given his role however we cant surmise anything, good or bad, about him as a visionary.

The key to finding the right guy for the position in question is his grasp on the characters and the cultural perception of those characters. How do you meld who the characters are against who theyre perceived to be in a way that attracts both the initiated and the uninitiated alike.

Couple that with the general perception of "lolDCbad" and its tough for anyone for climb this particular mountain. In all reality DC needs a decade on the shelf for mainstream audiences to forget the stink of the synder run...but thats not in the cards. At all.

I think marvel could stand to be less slapstick itself but DC definitely needs to be able to make pictures that are at least fun. The Nolan trilogy is very serious and very dark but theyre still fun movies. The Donnor Superman may be campy but it was a very fun film. Itll make you smile. Fun doesnt have to mean Airplane.

Man of Steel 2 with Henry Cavill officially in development.... Really hoping they can turn it around. Joss Whedon's Justice League proved to me that I could enjoy Cavill as Superman, so I really hope we can get a freaking good Superman movie for once.

Also announced is that Matt Reeves is expanding the world of The Batman with not only a sequel, and the Penguin HBO Max show...... but also working on "Rogues Gallery" movies for Scarecrow, Clayface, Professor Pyg, and others...

The further away we get from it the more I realize how utterly forgettable The Batman was, so kinda sucks that they are going "all-in" with Reeves and his universe.... hopefully it can turn around too.

I just want a good Superman movie, so please give it to me. Early days could be good, getting used to the big city, finding his place and role as both Clark and Superman....
