It's very perplexing how they're pretending they could do a Black Adam movie aa if he's completely unrelated to Shazam.

legends has defied the odds in every way since its second season. scrappiest bunch of underdogs on tv, and the best show in the arrowverse by a mile. my soul is warmed by the fact they have lasted anywhere near as long as they have
definitely sad at routh's departure though, he's one of an ever-diminishing number of OG legends, firstly, and he is also the golden heart of the show in more ways than one
The more I read about James Tynion's upcoming run on Batman the more I am looking forward to it.
The writer describes Batman going forward as an "action horror superhero comic book," where the villains will be frightening - as will Batman.
"The villains of Gotham fear him, and he is going to take that fear and wield it like a weapon to get his city back under control," writes Tynion. "Batman doesn’t just show up in broad daylight to scare his villains, he uses tricks and shadows, and voice modulation to make it seem like he can be anywhere and everywhere at once."
"To the bad guys, Batman is like Michael Myers," Tynion writes, referring to the Halloween villain. "He keeps getting up when it shouldn’t be possible to get up anymore. How can you win against him? You’d have to be crazy to try."
"He has just faced tremendous failure in the last year of story," Tynion wrote, referring to the current "City of Bane" arc. "He lost his City, and lost his way… But now that he’s back, he has an almost manic intensity. He is going to fix things. He’s going to make it so nobody like Bane can ever do this to the city again.
"With Selina on his arm, the 'Playboy' Bruce is dead," Tynion continues. "Every waking minute is dedicated to the rebuild of Gotham City, both as Bruce Wayne and as Batman. He is in control of every room he enters, and people are a little frightened of him.

Plus Tony Daniel is one of my favorite Bat artists so I am really glad he is back on the main Bat book.

Crisis on Infinite Earths Part One:
- Chuckled at Burt Ward's cameo appearance
- Was hoping that Jonathan would be "aged up" somehow for the upcoming Superman & Lois show, and it would be more based on Peter Tomasi's excellent Superman DC Rebirth run that Bendis destroyed
- Like the quantum tower and shadows
- Did not expect Oliver to die in the very first episode.... have a feeling maybe he is not actually gone... or that Old Man Ollie might come back
- Supergirl's world destroyed... wonder if this will stick and she'll be on Earth-1 now, probably everything changes by the end

Crisis on Infinite Earths Part Two:
- Tom Welling's cameo was "underwhelming" and have feeling a lot of people will complain about it, but whatever. I wonder if at the end of the sequel comics he gave up his powers, I never actually read through them all. Seems "weird" that Lex would see him as Clark Kent but for some reason not think it possible that he is Clark Kent on his own world....
- Marked out for Kevin Conroy, and the perfect way they introduced him via just using his voice first. His story was also good, and a lot of the lines from Dark Knight Returns.
- Marked the F out for Brandon Routh Superman, and the return of the John Williams Superman theme. That costume is dope as F.
- "Weird" at not just using the Earth-1 Mick Rory and using an alternate universe one instead.....

It was all pretty good and enjoyed how the fooled us a little on who these characters were and were not. I would really like to see them go through with the Crisis 7 homage and do some manner of Reign of Supergirl stuff intermingled with the leviathan stuff.
However after watching Black Lightning tonight I think everything is going to just be reset with a few odd tweaks.

Crisis on Infinite Earths Part Three:
- Holy s*** I marked hard at Lucifer appearing
- Haven't watched Black Lightning since season 1.... not because I wasn't enjoying it, but just because there is so much tv..... but it was good to see him
- Green Arrow gonna become The Spectre? I mean, I guess it makes more sense than Green Lantern becoming The Spectre, because he still has a thing for green hoods. Wonder what happens with Ollie's soulless body, though.
- Supergirl continuing to not try to save anybody, but spends the entire episode staring at the book deciding whether or not to use it.....
- Not sure what to think about Ryan Choi yet, especially if the plan is for him to replace Ray on Legends.
- DAMN @ Routh Superman being taken out of the picture.... want more from him. I honestly worry about the Superman and Lois show now, because standing next to Routh as Superman, the other dude looks bush league.
- DAMN @ having to wait until January for the rest

Dunno why they randomly replaced Dr. Mid-Nite with a chick, though..... I liked Pieter Cross a lot....
They also brought back the female Wildcat.... so wonder if this new Dr. Mid-Nite is supposed to be Beth Chapel or not....
Happy to see that they brought Superman's parents back from the dead.... always liked them alive more than dead.... Though Bendis is probably just gonna kill them off again....

Here's what's interesting: David Goyer and Justin Marks are planning a superhero movie which is the starting point. This is the movie in which the villains From the district of Columbia are sitting in a maximum security prison. Oliver was condemned and thrown into a space that helps people. Can we hope that Slade will appear? I like the idea of someone doing something from comic book characters book of ra gratuit (http://passiongames-fr.com/sloty/book-of-ra-free/)
after a train of superheroes. Cartoons are often the focus of absurd situations that usually do not see the light of actual action. this project will interest filmmakers that superheroes are more than a story that follows the original story

I think if it is actually a good movie and gets good reviews/word of mouth it will do good.
DC has announced the sequel to Dark Knights: METAL and revealed the cover of issue 1:
DARK KNIGHTS: DEATH METAL
https://i.postimg.cc/6pkyVWKs/DC-Comic-Death-Metal-Capullo-Variant.jpg
The Earth has been consumed by Dark Multiverse energy, having been conquered by the Batman Who Laughs and his evil lieutenants, corrupted versions of Shazam, Donna Troy, Supergirl, Blue Beetle, Hawkman, and Commissioner Jim Gordon. Some heroes, like Wonder Woman and the Flash, have made compromises as they negotiate to keep humanity alive in this hell-born landscape. Others, like Batman, are part of an underground resistance looking to take back control of their world. Superman is imprisoned, cursed to literally power Earth’s sun for eternity.
But a mysterious figure provides Wonder Woman with vital information she might be able to use to rally Earth’s remaining heroes to resist the Batman Who Laughs. Can the Justice League break away from the Dark Multiverse and defeat Perpetua, the evil mother of the DC Multiverse?
Issues 1, 2, 3 drop in May, June, July and Issues 4, 5, 6 drop in September, October, November. This one changes everything, not a cliche, a guarantee.
This is the event that is expected to lead into DC's much mentioned 5G era (fifth generation era) of superheroes, with all the DC major heroes aging and being replaced by newer and younger characters. The rumored list is below in spoilers if you haven't seen it.
Luke Fox - Batman
Adult Jonathan Kent - Superman
New WW
New GL
New Aquaman
New Flash
and so forth...
These changes have been rumored to come from Warner Bros, who said DC Comics major characters are not diverse enough, too male and too white.
To appease older fans DC expects to write non-canon stories starring the traditionally known characters for their Black Label line, per BleedingCool.
More on changes because of the upcoming 5G...
Green Lantern Season Two has been changed from 12 issues to 8 issues as DC needs Grant to end his story in 2020 because they have 'other plans' in 2021.
DC's Free Comic Book Day will release "Generation Zero: Gods Among Us" which will hint at the massive changes to come in the DCU. Cover below:
https://i.postimg.cc/zfP7JRYm/small-colors-fcbdvs2final.jpg
DC has also announced it will begin publishing GENERATION books to reveal the secret history of the DC Universe that is leading to biggest change to come.
What was the previously undocumented “big bang” of the Age of Mysteries?
Which character truly ushers in the dawn of Super Heroes, inspiring all the rest?
What was the real reason behind the Justice Society of America’s retirement?
Which Golden Age hero will become history’s greatest villain?
What contentious alliance kept the Wayne family dynasty alive after Thomas and Martha’s deaths?
Who are the new, never-seen-before wildcards that will be instrumental in fashioning DC’s push to the future?
The books will be:
Generation One: Age Of Mysteries
Generation Two: Age of the Metahuman
Generation Three: Age of Crisis
Generation Four: Age of Rebirth
Generation Five: Age of Tomorrow

Hence the complete reboot. Aquaman, coming off the stench of Justice League, did pretty well.
The director has a strong track record. Pattinson has come a very long way from his Twilight days, the last of which will have came out 9 years before this movie is released.
Michael Keaton was the absolute last choice for his Batman film. Turned out just fine. If the film is good, people will go see it. Batman still sells.
Pattinson is great, I've never seen Twilight.
The Batman is rumored to based upon Batman: The Long Halloween, which would make sense with everything we know so far. Early in Bats existence, but not an origin.
Hell of a story too.

My first memory of Dan DiDio is when he took over the Superboy comic book and made it terrible........ and then they made him Publisher and I was like "WTF?"
I wonder if this will kill 5G/Generation Five
Hmmm
I read a rumor recently DC wants to hire more authors of TV/Animation to write big series bc their Young Adult graphic novels by novelists have been well-received.
Bleeding Cool has more on Didio leaving - he was fired
https://www.bleedingcool.com/2020/02/21/why-dan-didio-leave-dc-comics/
Bleeding Cool now understands that yes, DiDio was fired this morning by Warner Bros at 10.30am PT in their Burbank offices and he left the building straight away. I am told by sources close to the situation that he was fired, for cause, for 'fostering a poor work environment' – as evidenced by significant departures at the publisher by editors. Dan DiDio has a reputation of being a micro-manager from some, for being very involved in projects from others. And DC Comics was heading towards a big change in its publishing programme – one aspect of which was the much-rumoured 5G – or Generation Five. Which would have seen DC's major figures Bruce Wayne, Clark Kent, Diana and more aged out and replaced with new characters taking the roles of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman as part of the new DC Timeline. And some folk at DC Comics were very much against this. But opposition never worried Dan, after all he was at constant odds with the direction the company line was pushed for pretty much his entire career as Publisher, and was always was striving to put comics first, as he saw it.
But in recent months, there seemed to be editorial backtracks on the direction given, details changes and a general sense of frustration that the clock was ticking and that nothing was being done. We saw a rapid departure in DC editorial of Pat McCallum, Alex Antone, Molly Mahan, Rob Levin and others. Certainly, DiDio's departure was a surprise – to him as it was everyone else. I understand that it was internally announced at a series of small staff meetings at Burbank today.
Jim Lee is the remaining Publisher and CCO at DC, and so will be steering the ship for the foreseeable future.
There was a lot of discussion amongst retailers about DiDio's firing, with comic book writer Scott Snyder's name being mentioned a lot as a factor. Internally at DC Comics, Snyder was seen as someone opposed to what was being planned with 5G, and thought it could harm retailers. Snyder and DiDio were not eye-to-eye creatively, but I understand that Snyder merely wanted to keep his upcoming Death Metal comic book as far away from 5G/Generation Five as possible, intending to use the series to celebrate DC's 85 years to date, rather than anything forward-looking. This frustrated DiDio's plans to introduce 5G with Death Metal. And as a result, mentions of Death Metal were taken out of the planned Generation Zero: Gods Among Us story for Free Comic Book Day.
It is now possible that DC's Free Comic Book Day offering may change again as a result, even though it is up for FOC this weekend. But all this is being worked out in real-time this weekend at Burbank. As of now? According to people working on it, 5G is still launching in October. In what shape or form, I haven't a clue.

I think others are just holding out hope that the 15% will make them like it. Then be angry when it doesn't.

I gave Justice League 2.5/4 which was pretty generous in retrospect. I have seen it twice since then and it's probably more of a 2/4 film.
Zach Snyder seems to be trying to destroy Superman for everybody.

I seem to have rated it an 8/10 at the time. Would probably go a bit lower now.
But I did actually enjoy it. Not great, and nowhere near what a Justice League movie could be or should be..... but many a Marvel movie that I would rewatch Justice League over rewatching them.

Sounds like the issue of Batman w/ Punchline (Joker's new girlfriend) has been selling extremely well, might be the most bought issue of Batman in a long time
DC canned it's long-time relationship w/ Diamond, who distributed all of DC and Marvel comics. They are using two smaller publishing houses now. A lot of people wondering if this will hurt or help comic book shops, because they will have to pay more money on shipping now to get comics in, especially outside the U.S.
bleedingcool.com reporting all previous plans, like the big 5G "age out all the heroes" stuff is off the table permanently now that Didio is out.
Bleedingcool hinting DC is looking to get away from monthly printed comics in the next several years because ATT/WarnerMedia see the fast turn around time for printing, rushed editing and it just doesn't make sense in 2020 financially....Said in the next few years expect DC to shift more towards Original Graphic Novels, especially geared towards teens, as recent OGNs have sold really, really well (slik note: I liked the Catwoman one, "Under The Moon") and there is no rush to get them to press. They also won't have to worry about continuity, as all OGNs take place in their own, contained universe. DC recently signed a big deal with book publishing magnate Penguin Books, who will help market and distribute all future OGNs. Read the Mera one.... and that's it....
I think getting away from monthly comics is actually not a bad idea.... just been chugging along for so long.... goes through so many peaks and valleys in terms of storytelling..... graphic novels allow them to just tell stories "as they come" and "develop them more"....
Something like their Earth One graphic novels would be good.... like instead of monthly Superman/Batman/Etc.... you just get occasional graphic novels that form a continuity.... (and then you can continue to do all the non-continuity graphic novels too)
I wish they'd do more Earth One stuff
I really enjoyed the Superman Earth One series

This is kinda cool actually. After they rebooted the new 52 I stopped collecting Batman. If they came out with a few graphic novels a yr I'd be happy to fork over the cash for a long read as opposed to watching a storyline play out over a yr or so.

Like, I think monthly comic books "peaked" a long time ago, like early 2000s maybe..... and since then just been awkwardly dragging things out, rebooting, reshuffling, retooling, just trying to fill every month with content..... still have some good peaks in there no doubt, but overall just doesn't have that "momentum" behind it.....
That's my take too @Damian Rey
The endless 'event series' have sort of done me in too...their next one by Scott Snyder, DEATH METAL, is supposed to somehow tie in ALL of DC History but here's the thing....that is like EVERY DC 'event series' now. It gets so silly after a while when DC is like, ok let's make our little mythology even more complex by adding another hidden layer to it and another biggest bad of all-time.
I think the last big events I enjoyed were either FLASHPOINT or BLACKEST NIGHT. DC's obsession with it's own continuity has become way too complex. Just tell me a good story.

I've never bothered reading those because they just seem needlessly convoluted. I loved Snyder's run on the new 52 reboot of Batman. Court of owls and zero year were stellar. I'd love you see more big stories like that in one long read.
I also started avoiding anything to do w Brian Michael Bendis as a writer. When he came to DC as the genius of Marvel, who birthed so many things that found their way into the MCU I thought 'cool, time for a fresh voice'.
Everything I've read he's written in DC so far has been a massive waste of time. NOTHING HAPPENS I want to estimate 80-90% of the time in his plots. And the things that do, are never elaborated on or explained. He has done more harm to Superman as a character than any writer I think ever. Supes was in such a good place too when Bendis took over as it's new creative auteur. The entire Superfamily is a huge mess now, just a massive, massive mess. I wanted to see how he would handle an event series so I gave his Leviathan series a shot and that was the final straw. That was the worst 'event series' I have ever read and the most pointless. NOTHING HAPPENED. It could have been one-issue, not six.
The plot, based on a big mystery, which happens off-panel, has a stupid twist no one could guess because the big reveal involved someone who had not appeared in the book. And then it was left open-ended with zero resolution. DC of course stupidly promoted it as something that would change DC forever.

The positive about doing graphic novels 3 or 4 times a yr is that you can treat them like movies. One big story that'd typically span a year or so if published monthly. Also the writers could take their time.
I've never bothered reading those because they just seem needlessly convoluted. I loved Snyder's run on the new 52 reboot of Batman. Court of owls and zero year were stellar. I'd love you see more big stories like that in one long read.
I love those too. Court of Owls I thought could be cool villains in a bat-film someday.
I think at this point if I'm following DC mythology correctly...The multiverse was created by Perpetua who is the mom of the Anti-Monitor and Monitor and she wants to turn it evil and use it (the multiverse) as a weapon to destroy all of the other multiverses (because there can't just be one) because there is now an "omniverse" of unlimited multiverses created by whatever type of being Perpetua is. And the reason we've never heard of her before during any of the umpteen mulitverse events is because she was trapped in the Source Wall, which shielded DC's multiverse from the omniverse. But there is also, now, of course, THE DARK MULTIVERSE, which is made up worlds deemed not good enough for the multiverse. And Perpetua needs to control the dark multiverse to control the multiverse so she can destroy the omniverse.
Or something like that. Until DC reboots with some other god-awful idea that will probably be crafted by Bendis and make zero sense. Definitely not convoluted at all, I can't understand why you have avoided these things Damian!

Yeah fuck that nonsense.
Agree on Court of Owls as movie villains. Maybe if Reeves' Pattinson led bat movie does well he'll go to them next. Seems to fit his style of villainy.
Here's the other thing I'd love about OGN; the art would stay consistent. I hate reading graphic novels that are told thru different character issues. Always takes me out of it whenthe art changes.
And I like w/ OGNs they could tell the story, through one or four graphic novels and then boom, someone else could tell a totally different story without worrying about continuity. Just focused on good stories and nice art.

As mediocre as Man of Steel was and as bad as BvS was, they were at least visually compelling and have lots of good bits and pieces that just don't add up story wise.

Alright. I'm actually excited this thread is still going. Since my last run here I've gotten ridiculously into DC. I'm making my way through all of rebirth at the moment. Currently caught up with:
Flash Rebirth
Batman Rebirth
Superman Rebirth
Action Comics Rebirth
Super Sons
Working on:
Nightwing (Issue 25 atm)
Red Hood/Outlaws (Issue 20)
I've gotta say, rebirth has been fucking awesome for the most part. Tom King Batman is a little baffling sometimes because it essentially feels like a romance novel but I cant help but like it more than dislike it. There's valid reasons to dislike it but Tom King is a fantastic writer, IMO. Even when I dont like the stories that are being told, they're always told well. Initially wasn't digging Seeley Nightwing but I think I'm back in after "Nightwing Must Die." Williamson Flash is tits as fuck. Not sure if I'm in with all of the different "forces" that were introduced because it feels like a rehash of the Lantern colors in a way but everything else has been on point. Superman Rebirth was almost life changing. I've never been able to dive into Supes until now but it's been the most enjoyable series I've read so far.
I'm going to read all of rebirth, just going to take me a moment. Might not read Batwoman though because I don't want to repeatedly slam my head against my desk.

Dc Universe App isn't current with all the issues either so I'll eventually have to completely catch up with everything. I'm looking at it like a project.
I agree on Flash Rebirth -- I'm not sold on the forces but I've loved the run overall. I really, really liked the Flash: Year One arc.
Co-signed on Tom King. His Bat/Cat stuff is great and, I don't know if you've heard of this, he did a one-shot Batman/Elmer Fudd crossover. Yes, that Elmer Fudd. Yes, I know that sounds ridiculous.
Yes, it is also amazing.
Ohhhh Lock Jaw and I are so on the same Bendis page w/ Supes. Everything Bendis has done to Supes just upsets me as a comic fan so much. I think I'd consider it the worst run on a character in DC history possibly.
Elmer Fudd/Bats by Tom King tho -- amazing.

Where do we all stand on Heroes in Crisis? Lots of fan boys motherfuck Tom King to death for HIC. I actually liked it but it definitely had a fatal flaw. The big gaping problem to me was that there's no justification for Wally reacting that way to the situation. I can buy that it happened and how it happened, I cannot make sense of what he did afterwards (being vague for spoiler sake. Don't know if anybody cares or not.) It just feels like it flies in the face of everything WW stands for. Story pretty beautifully written though.

Because Marvel has been shit outside of a few good books for a while now.
I’ve honestly been a lot more into image comics than either Marvel or DC.
Much nicer reading one book for one story, without having to worry about about how 70 other titles and an annual crossover are going to affect it.
James Tynion's first arc on Batman as headwriter ended today with quite the twist, setting up his big "Joker War" arc he's been hyping.
I gotta give DC credit on this, for keeping this twist from being revealed earlier. Joker's going to have some fun w/ Gotham and the Bat fam...

The difference here is that Keaton has been as far away from Batman as you can get since the 92 film. Yes it's nostalgic but it also serves a purposeand fits in with the mythology of the books and multiple universes. I'm all for it.

Caught up on Nightwing Rebirth. I wanted to like it all the way through but it got real fuxkin weird after he got shot in the head in Batman Rebirth 55 .
I wasn't a fan of the Defacer stuff in the beginning, then they sold me on it, then they abandoned it. So what the hell. Raptor was pretty dope though. I'm firmly in the camp of "Nightwing needs his own villain instead of Batman retreads" except in the case of the court of owls. I'm alright with them exclusively being NW territory now, it makes sense. Highlights of the run was definitely the "Rise of Raptor" and "Better than Batman" stuff. Oh and the arc with the Judge was fucking incredible. Lowlight to me was the Wyrm arc and the Ric Grayson shit (which I almost couldn't bring myself to finish). Was slow to finish this because it got really slow and I wasn't excited to read it after awhile.
I do two rebirth series at a time so now I'll be on:

This is the second article I've seen with rumors of Affleck returning. I figured if true, perhaps HBO max was going to commission Snyder to finish his Justice League sequel and/or pull a Netflix and making shows or miniseries based on DC properties that would allow them to have higher production values and darker themes, like Daredevil.
If true, then color me pumped. Keaton coming back to dawn the batsuit, Affleck having his Batman exist in his own universe, and Pattinson getting to reboot the movie universe Batman. It might be a fun time to be a DC fan.

Dunno. I can see them bundling HBO Max and DC Universe...... with DC Universe either being a free add-on, or very cheap.

Nark Order
07-07-2020, 01:47 AM
I would be fine subbing if it was just comics but that's not what they advertised. Honestly, they bungled DC Universe so bad. For how awesome it is now, they royally fucked up launch and they never really fully recovered from it. First, the name absolute fucking sucks and is confusing because they have a video game of the same name, making it weird to search for. Second, they didn't get on gaming consoles for like a year and they still never made it to PS4, which cut out a large portion of their demo. Thirdly, they cycle content in and out instead of just adding video content. Lastly, every cool thing DC announces is on some other platform. If it is on DCU, its on another platform also (Stargirl).
That being said, I love the app. Im on it every day and have platinum status. The community is awesome, the original content they actually do have is good, and the archive of comics is fucking massive. It could have been alot more than it is though and its pretty clear they have put it on the backburner to pursue other projects. They wouldn't have had to do this if they had their shit more together at launch
Destor
07-07-2020, 12:52 PM
The shows are being pulled from the app because it cant financially support them. Its not a choice. The app is a failure and right now AT&T is trimming fat. They cant keep losing money. Moving these shows to a platform with a larger install base is the only way to pay for them.
These are necessities. Things continue like they are and theyll have to sell licensing for these brands altogether.

Yeah but Marvel Unlimited is just a comics library. Warner put millions upon millions of dollars into original content for the DC Universe app. When they went live, their distribution was through their own platform, Roku, and maybe Apple. Thats it. When it first came out, I couldn't justify it because I couldn't watch any of the content anywhere but my phone and that blows. Not to mention they had maybe 1000 comics. They launched way before they were ready, in my opinion, and it hurt them. By the time they became fucking awesome, alot of people had already made up their minds.
Its a great product now but early execution was so awful. Ended up costing them alot of money.

Not to mention that they just made really fucking weird PR decisions also. They announced that Swamp Thing was canceled before the show debuted. I can't logically find a reason why they did that. Even if they weren't going to renew it, it seems insane to announce a show is canceled before it ever airs. That also put an aura of "oh damn. Maybe this app isn't going to last" into the air so it hurt subscribers right before an event that would have brought in subs. They frustrate the fuck out of me.

Instead of being a recast Kate Kane, she will be a new character and new Batwoman:
Ryan Wilder is about to become Batwoman. She's likable, messy, a little goofy and untamed. She's also nothing like Kate Kane, the woman who wore the Batsuit before her. With no one in her life to keep her on track, Ryan spent years as a drug-runner, dodging the GCPD and masking her pain with bad habits. Today Ryan lives in her van with her plant. A girl who would steal milk for an alley cat and could also kill you with her bare hands, Ryan is the most dangerous type of fighter: highly skilled and wildly undisciplined. An out lesbian.
BleedingCool.com speculates if monthly comics exist in a few years, it will be less titles and likely all digital release only.

Driven by continued growth in popularity of the graphic novel format, combined sales of graphic novels and periodical comics in the U.S. and Canada totaled roughly $1.21 billion in 2019, according to a joint estimate produced by trade news sites ICv2 and Comichron. The $1.21 billion estimate represents an 11% increase over total comics and graphic sales in 2018.
The increase in sales was led by the graphic novel book format, in particular continued growth in sales of children's graphic novels, sold via the bookstore channel, which includes chain bookstores, online retailers, mass market stores, and Scholastic Book Fairs. And while the book format led sales growth overall, sales of periodical comics in the comics shop market were also up by about 5%.
"The massive shift to graphic novels as the preferred format for comics continued in 2019, bringing sales in the book channel above the comic store channel in North America for the first time in the history of the medium," ICv2 CEO Milton Griepp said of the findings.
In 2019, North American sales of the graphic novel format were about $765 million, while sales of periodical comics were about $355 million, with sales of digital comics at about $90 million.

The last time I knew of any actual advertisement for the Marvel app that didn't pop up online while I was actively researching something about a Marvel character out of conversational need or random curiosity was, and I shit you not, an OTA radio spot. Something about that felt off for what they're trying to do. Like the next step is to hire a street team in random cities to staple flyers to phone poles like 90s rap concerts to completely miss your audience.
It is for digital comic books and prob like more than 80% of the people interested in the MCU movies/shows have no actual interest in reading the comics
So, exactly the same issue I'm having with Disney+... I want to watch the new episodes of the new Ducktales (so good), but I can't, because D+ only has through season 2... season 3 is on that Disney XD, which is free but you have to be watching in conjunction with a cable subscription to unlock the service. Not fooling with any of that is exactly the reason why I have Disney+, and it makes no sense to me why you'd have two different streaming services (as a company, I mean, not as a subscriber) with different content.
Yeah... I do really want a cut of the original Star Wars trilogy that is the one I grew up with.
Which was apparently already not the original cut, so I guess I don't want that either (but I'd take it over what they got now).
I have a particular DVD set of the original trilogy with the original films on them like a "bonus feature" (and I think they all have the same demo of the first LEGO Star Wars... have to go back and look). The sound is intentionally mono crippled, and its in black bar 4:3 instead of theatrical widescreen, but unless you go completely old school and hunt down the final release of the widescreen VHS set, Indy, that's about as good as it is going to get.

Darkseid by way of 'Rapey Office Manager' is pretty next level.
The WarnerMedia shakeup which saw Kevin Reilly, who brought AEW to TNT, let go has now crept into DC Comics.
Sounds like DC Editorial getting massive layoffs:

I'm sure it's not this bad but still YIKES, hope all the people let go land on their feet.

update from bleedingcool
https://bleedingcool.com/comics/after-the-bloodbath-the-start-of-a-new-two-year-plan-for-dc-comics/
With so many staff leaving the company, around a third it is estimated, the continual production of comic books is likely to take a hit, but the graphic novel line, which has become more valuable to DC, is so far in advance of production, that no one would notice until well into 2021.
We also hear about what is described as a Two-Year Plan for DC Comics which will see DC Comics move to mass-market production through Walmart, the licensing of titles with editors moving to brand manager roles, alongside a move from DC to digital serialisation and original graphic novels. Content will still be provided to the direct market but it will no longer be the priority that it (still) is at DC Comics.

It’s also worth noting that DC’s “creator leadership” group was already experiencing forms of consolidation as King, Snyder, and Johns have all signaled—to different extents—they are stepping back from the core superhero line.
— Chase Magnett (@ChaseMagnett) August 11, 2020

Some rumors of DC doing a reboot in January when DEATH METAL ends and the ENDLESS WINTER event might lead to it.
Jim Lee told The Hollywood Reporter than John Ridley (Oscar winning writer of 12 Years A Slave) will be doing a Batman miniseries that will have a huge impact on the Bat-line. Ridley was the author scheduled to write Luke Fox as Bats when 5G was going to be a thing.
Interesting.
