Mirrors Edge 2 isn't canceled according to Sent U A Message on the UK 360 dashboard. According to them, EA have said it's just "On Hold". So we could see it eventually.

What does that have to do with anything?
Anyway, I feel like since Street Fighter 4 reinvigorated the fighting game market, we've seen more fighters coming out, which is good, but now it's starting to reach the oversaturation of the 90's.

I don't agree that that's why fighting games died for a bit. 2D fighters died because the community became exclusive, not too mention the death of arcades in general. 3D fighters flourished on consoles because they made bigger strides for features and accessibility. So DoA, Tekkens, SoulCaliburs, and such went on for successful console releases. KoF never really stopped releasing games on console, but KoF was always a niche game (to this day). Capcom just didn't give a shit about making SF, Darkstalkers, Rival Schools, anything for a good while. They had to have their arm twisted to even make SF4, and a small project in TvC motivated them for MvC3.
Many new fighting games are due to 1) Capcom getting their balls back and making waves with SF4, and 2) Many smaller devs bringing their projects to the limelight (indy development is going on in all genres anyway). We were going to see a new Tekken, Virtua Fighter, KoF, and SoulCalibur regardless of what Capcom was doing. They never stopped. And the digital platforms, XBLA and PSN made porting older fighters easy. And it's great that new fighters are making it on as well, with Arcana Heart 3 coming to PSN.
That's not oversaturation, it's just healthy. I mentioned shooters because if anything that's an overblown market, and nobody seems to give a shit. Some companies feel like they need to have a shooter just because. It's not like these companies are releasing fighting games to meet fiscal quotas (in many cases projections are always kept low).
Personally I don't there's enough fighting games from enough people. I wanna see new IPs from new studios. It's something I watch with vested interest.
SO I MIGHT BE BIASED

About £1,400
I am going overkill on it though, you Woild save £300 by only having 1 GFX card and 8gb RAM and another £300 by not taking the 3D monitor and glasses. It would still be a beast too.

As an SLI user, it is usually not even worth it. Tons of games don't even support it.
You Don't Know Jack is really awesome. It's almost a good filler for 1 vs 100. Too bad nobody here will have it for the PS3.

Just because the FPS genre is over saturated does mean that it is ok to over saturate the fighting game genre. I don't really give a rats ass about either so I'm not biased.
Funky Fly

Fighting genre isn't over saturated. If anything, it's quite the niche market. The games coming out these days are pretty different from each other and tend to have "easy to learn/hard to master" complex systems to them.
The 90s went overboard. Street Fighter spawned 34786234764685 clones and that was fine. Some of them were damn good. The 3D era had a lot of cool ideas with kinda crappy execution, but there were also gems in there. Plus there were a lot of original ideas.
I'd love to see Fighter Maker on this gen of consoles. Keep the graphics at slightly better than PS2 level and you should have plenty of processing power to develop a full blown custom fighting engine. Plus they could do it Rock Band Network style and have the best creations get upped, voted on and sold to everyone at maybe $5 - $10 a pop.

Funky, I was arguing that the fighting genre is or isn't. I was simply stating that just because fps might be (also not arguing if it is or isn't), that doesn't justify the fighting game genre doing as such, if it is.

According to the Scott Pilgrim series creator, Scott Pilgrim vs the World could have been a completely different game had Ubisoft accepted Telltale Games idea for creating the game.
Telltale Games wanted something similar to the books by making the game more into an adventure game although it wasn't mentioned if the game would be episodic in content like the recent games from the studio.
Ubisoft rejected that idea and the request from Telltale Games to develop the game since they wanted the game to be more of a beat-em-up with homages to certain games of the past. Ubisoft also pushed for the 16-bit style feel to the graphics but also ended up not including online multiplayer when the game was initially released.

Time to celebrate as Legend of Zelda celebrates its 25th year anniversary today in Japan (US/Canada didn't get the game until August 22, 1987). Zelda was originally released on the Famicom Disk System and later ported to the NES for global release.
Not counting the packed-in games with the NES, when Zelda's NES gold cart was released, it became the very 1st million seller for the system.

Rumored prices for the NGP 2 models range anywhere between $250-$280 for the Standard Model (no 3G or extra features) and $280-$350 for the 3G Model.
The 3G model does require a subscription which will make it even more expensive once all the costs are added.
If true then Sony will be loosing a lot more money than when they released the PSP based on the specs for the NGP. It also gives them room to phase out the cheaper model in the future if sales are low or a better model comes out.

3DS release now at 4 days away for Japan and pre-orders in the UK/Europe have it as the #1 all-time pre-ordered system for both handhelds and console records.
Original plans were to release the system in June but leaks forced Nintendo to push the US and European launches 2 months earlier. It is also why Nintendo proclaims the launch window being 3 months long instead of the traditional 2 weeks to 1 month long.

I believe it will but you wouldn't get the 3G speeds and it would depend on how the developer coded the multiplayer since I would bet the goal would be to eventually only have games run in 3G speeds for the future.
Its similar to when the PS2 would allow both 56k and broadband for online but games later were designed more for broadband speeds (Xbox only allowed broadband and Gamecube allowed both on the rare occasion it had).

In an interview with Famitsu, the development team behind the Nintendo 3DS gives some info on how the development process to the 3DS occurred over time.
The original plan was for the DS successor to have 2 screens since backwards compatibility was their main goal and then start to add new features.
Around 2008, the team decided to test out 3D to see how it would look on a screen with the goal being glasses-less 3D. They did this by hooking a 3D tv to a Wii and used Mario Kart Wii. Everyone liked it soo much that it was implemented in the 3DS.
Late into the planning and development, Miyamoto requested gyrosensors as a way to add a new type of gameplay for games not 3D-dependent. He wanted some form of motion controls on a handheld ever since the Wii was released and as another new type of gameplay.
The gyrosensor ended up becoming a backup plan for games not 3D-dependent but wanted to stand out in the 3DS library.

Kotaku has a new gameplay preview on the upcoming Dexus Ex Revolution game and this time there was less on-rails or set piece battles.
Not every character in the game has the same implants or even any implants that Jensen has. Some characters actually will dislike the character due to having the implants from conversations.
Looks like the factory stage has a timed hostage rescue mission based on the preview build which means not much exploration allowed until after freeing the hostages. The hostages are not the real goal but a side mission in the factory level.
Also shown are decisions given to the player which can impact the gameplay since a stealth decision will give players non-lethal or silenced weapons while other choices provide different routes and weapons.
Upgrades and inventory stuff are done by the use of experience trees (pay for better stats) and Resident Evil 4 style inventory system for holding everything you want (limited grid/slot system).
It also appears that levels have many different ways to complete to add to replay ability since there are multiple routes, tactics, and choices possible at certain parts of a level.

Age of Empires Online switches developers about mid-way in development.
According to Microsoft, the actual plan involved the developers switching since the original studio, Robot Entertainment, was only meant to do the initial structure/foundation and give them some experience before handing the project to Gas Powered Games to create the actual content and gameplay.
Nothing huge is expected to change with the game from the switch while Robot Entertainment is set to work on a new and original IP for Microsoft.
Robot Entertainment is the studio Microsoft created using the remaining employees from Ensemble Studios after that studio was dissolved.

1st day sales results in Japan for the 3DS put it as #1 system seller of all-time with 400,000 sold or basically the entire Day 1 stock with the second shipment arriving today. It also managed to sell out in about 7 minutes once all the times and math was added up.
To put it in perspective, it beat the former #1 system (Wii) by 30,000 and the DS's opening by almost 200,000 units (230,000). The PSP only got 200,000 after 2 days and the PS3 reached about 83,000 in Day 1.

The art showed designs for a potential Mother Brain and other characters that were not in the final release of the game. Crocomire was pretty close to being included in the game due to the numerous concept art dealing with the character.

Bigging up MS and Sony's premium gaming as well as Nintendo's own, saying that mobile gaming being so cheap might hurt consumers perception of value and grab Angry Birds more than Call of Duty of Mario.

During his GDC 2011 panel, Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki said "I think Sega will let me make it," referring to the long-awaited Shenmue 3. However, it's not a guarantee. He couched the discussion by saying it's contingent on budget issues -- by the way, Suzuki said that Shenmue cost $47 million to make, not the patently ridiculous $70 million Sega quoted -- and that he basically could only be sure that 200 people (the people in the room) would buy it.
So it probably won't amount to anything. But Yu Suzuki just sustained our hopes of continued Shenmue regardless.
!!!!!
That's good enough for me.

Its no different than any other time a system is the leader during a generation. Sony never cared when the PS2 had its massive lead and market share (over 10,000 games last time it was tracked).
The biggest difference is the Wii's casual audience is talked a lot more than the PS2's audience and the involvement of both Sony and Nintendo with the audience.

DICE and EA continue trashing Activision and Call of Duty series. They also managed to indirectly insult gamers who play those games even though that same group also buys other shooters and EA games.
“We want to make a game for grown-ups. We don’t want to make a children’s game, a twitch, infantry-focused on-drugs sugar-rush experience. This needs to be an adult game with mature features and depth. It’s supposed to be a sport. It should be: ‘I can trust this game.’”
Last game DICE worked on was the multiplayer portion of Medal of Honor reboot which got mixed reviews ranging from decent/good to shallow and very litle depth in terms of features, maps, and modes.
A "leaked" Battlefield 3 gameplay trailer showed off some of the Quick-Time Events (QTE) and graphically looked great on the PC (lead development system).

Valve recently teamed up with Intel to provide a stronger security and anti-phishing system for Steam.
Once completed, Steam Guard will be a hardware-based security system instead of the more common and traditional software-based system.
No more would fake email messages work to steal passwords since any changes to an account has to be done on the computer (or authorized machine).
Steam Guard will be optional to use in case some users don't want to be "locked" into one machine or are more comfortable in the old system.
Steam Guard is a security technology that locks account modification to a single computer. Users will still be able to access Steam and play games they've already purchased from anywhere, but any major changes to the account must be done through the authorized machine.
The service takes advantage of Intel's new Identity Protection Technology, integrated into the second generation of its Core and Core vPro processors. The technology generates a random number every thirty seconds, and Steam Guard will verify that number. If you aren't at that computer, you aren't gaining access.

Hyperdimension Neptunia on the PS3 by NIS could potentially change the way party-based RPGs are played and it involves spending real money.
Traditionally RPGs either let you form your initial party from a pool of characters or let you recruit new characters either by force or as an option. This game lets you recruit characters in your party as long as you actually pay to use them.
You still unlock characters in the traditional storyline way but until you purchase the activation packs on the PSN store ($1.99), they remain "locked" for the entire game.
Unlike most DLC, the difference in this style is how the characters are actually advertised in ads or back of the box but purposely locked compared to adding stuff not on the disk or hiding it with a key. Same goes for certain missions, weapons, and clothing.
Square-Enix has already tested out doing something like this in the future with some WiiWare games but so far haven't done it in a big retail game.

343 Stduios hints that a Halo Wars sequel might arrive in the future and could even be a Kinect-enabled game.
Last year Microsoft tried to shut down the leaderboards for the game due to lack of support compared to their other games but found out that the community is still strong enough for RTS games on the console.
That said, there are no plans to take this game in either direction. "It was a huge success," 343's Frank O'Connor told CVG, citing Halo Wars' status as the top selling RTS on this generation of consoles (an admittedly small field.)
But "is the will to do a sequel there? Who knows. We could do something that works on Kinect, for example," O'Connor said. "There's no will against it but we're not working on it right now."
Halo Wars ended up becoming the number #1 selling console RTS game this generation and possibly all-time with roughly 2.11 million sales since release.

Red Lynx announces that the "sequel" or successor to Trials HD will arrive on the Wii and be called Moto Heroz. The studio is being backed in both money and help from Nintendo so no chance at this game arriving on the PS3 or Xbox 360 (similar to Trials HD not on the Wii or PS3).
Some gameplay features announced are roughly 75 levels, side scrolling perspective for races, and the Wiimote used in the classic NES position with motion controls mainly for flipping crashed cars.
Red Lynx's goal for multiplayer is to do something barely seen or done on consoles and handhelds:
The idea Red Lynx had been incubating is the game's unusual online system. The game's developers are creating about 50 levels that they can upload to players, a few at a time in some sort of rotation. Each is about 20KB in size, Ilvessuo told me, and will be transmitted simultaneously to all owners of the game as an immediate score-based challenge. Red Lynx will run the challenges for 12-24 hours, then pull the levels and upload different ones. The studio's goal is to give gamers a new reason to play the game each day. If Wii players like it, Red Lynx will create more levels and keep rotating them in and out.
The game is expected to arrive on WiiWare late Spring 2011 to early Summer 2011 (May-August/September 2011 range).

I had no problem with them revisiting Liberty City, because it's basically what GTA's built off of. The producer/director behind the Mario Kart series explains how and why the Blue Shell was put in the game. It turns out the Blue Shell had 2 purposes with one being a hidden purpose.
Gameplay-wise, the shell is meant to keep every race fun for everyone playing. The idea was to keep people playing and not give up due to 1-2 people dominating every race.
Technical-wise, it was meant to keep the N64 processor from overloading with everyone on the screen. The shell in this case was meant to knock people off the track to ease the CPU workload.
The team had the idea to get rid of the Blue Shell for the Wii version of Mario Kart but by then it became too famous and well-known part of the series to just get rid of.

Microsoft preparing to respond harshly to the recent XBLA points exploit costing the company $1.2 million before it was shut down.
Unlike other point generator schemes, this one managed to generate numbers of cards based on previously used cards and not by a random generator. Also unlike other exploits that require some time to get multiple codes and limits on point values, this exploit allowed multiple codes that only needed a button click to generate each time.
Microsoft estimates about 1/2 million unsold cards for XBLA are potentially useless right now until Microsoft resets the activation on them.
Microsoft is considering a variety of punishments ranging from simple point and purchase deductions to banning and potential bricking of consoles for the bigger offenders (someone managed to steal roughly $15,000 worth in points and spent them all).
The exploit only was online for 4 hours and Microsoft confirms the numbers not generated during that time won't be reset in case they were legitimate purchases.

Valve announces there will be some sort of content to explain the gap in story between Portal 1 and Portal 2. They didn't announce what it is but it could range anywhere between pre-DLC like Case Zero was for Dead Rising 2, a mini-game of some sort, or just a simple storyline press release.
Valve says while Portal 1 occurred after the first Half-Life but before HL 2, Portal 2occurs during Half Life 2 but didn't specify if it was during the main game or the episodes set.
Also announced was Portal's overall story does not actually connect with the Half-Life series storyline but almost as a sidestory with minimal references to events in HL.

EA drops support for updating NBA Jam rosters for consoles after initially promising the updates would follow the same schedule as the rest of the EA roster update games (Jam would have followed NBA Live/Elite schedule).
The BS reason was because they had to include online and HD for the Xbox 360/PS3 meant it was impossible for them to include a roster update schedule. App Store unofficial reason was they were too lazy since the game was a cheap port.

Electronic Arts might have another financial problem on their hands after UFC bought out Strikeforce today. UFC's exclusive deal with THQ lasting till 2018 could end up killing EA's promised MMA game sequel while giving THQ access to Strikeforce fighters for its next game.
EA's original plans were to put their new MMA series on an alternating schedule with Fight Night series to provide another yearly source of revenue for the company.
Even though THQ announced their UFC series is now on a 2 year schedule, it isn't expected that UFC will beak its current deal with THQ to fill in the non-THQ years. THQ would demand less payments on license fees and preference in the UFC brand in any new deal.
This news combined with horrible NBA Jam sales, potential end for the NBA Live/Elite series, and expected weak Madden 12 sales will ruin EA's revenue from its sports division.

Huge rumor involving Microsoft potentially terminating their relationship with Rare could occur within next year if Rare's next game called Kinect Sports 2 fails to reach sales expectations. Poor sales, public reception, and money spent with little return are some of the reasons for Microsoft to consider this a move.
The rumor originates from last month but somewhat confirmed due to the only major title Rare will work on in 2011 is Kinect Sports 2. Kinect Sports 1 sold about 2.8 million copies but the majority of those were bundled with the accessory (same for Kinect Adventures).
Kinect Sports 2 will be the real test for Microsoft to determine if Rare can still sell games without needing bundles or pre-Kinect hype. They might be expecting something similar to Wii Sports Resort generating about 1/3 the sales of Wii Sports.
Should Microsoft get rid of Rare, their internal studios would most likely take over the Kinect series.

EA and Activision are leading a group of publishers and developers studios in an attempt to remove NDP from sales discussions. Their issue revolves around the NDP requiring members to pay to access its data and the lack of digital sales tracked by the NDP.
The other problem involves publishers and the Big 3 (Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft) themselves do not provide digital sales to the NDP which ends up not covering or estimating these sales as a result.

One husband and wife DIY team recently announced on Reddit that they'd unlocked the secret of portal technology* using everyday, off-the-shelf parts. By attaching LED rope light to the backs of two oval mirrors, they succeeded in creating one of the most effective (and easily replicated) displays of video game related wall art we've ever had the pleasure to lay eyes on: Portal (http://www.joystiq.com/game/portal-2) portals that look strikingly authentic.
The Redditors in question, corttana and dahburbb, say that the "spiraling" effect of the lights is actually the unexpected result of curving the light rope they used into an oval shape. When asked by other users, the duo said they plan to building a Companion Cube storage chest to round out their personal Enrichment Center. IGN:
Ubisoft is to release an all new rhythm action game dubbed Rocksmith, featuring a fully-functioning electric guitar and songs by big names such as David Bowie, Nirvana and The Rolling Stones.
The announcement – as broken by The Hollywood Reporter – comes just over a month after Activision pulled the plug on the Guitar Hero series, and in a climate where the music genre is generally believed to be struggling.
Rocksmith, however, looks to position itself differently to the competition. "Guitar Hero is a party game," said Ubisoft's senior VP of marketing Tony Key, "Rocksmith is a music experience."
Ubisoft is believed to be looking to partner with Gibson and other guitar manufacturers to create an experience that's more geared towards learning how to play the instrument. Harmonix's Rock Band 3, which released last year, took a similar approach with its full-priced, full-sized and fully functioning Fender Stratocaster guitar peripheral, though Rocksmith looks to have trumped it with its ability to support "most" electric guitars thanks to an input jack that's plugged into the console.
"The dream of playing guitar compared to how many follow through -- there's a big gap," Key said in Rocksmith's defence. "We will create a new generation of guitar players."
Rocksmith is looking to launch this September, and is said to feature songs not available on either RockBand or Guitar Hero.

With Crytek’s Crysis 2 hitting store shelves next week, the company is ramping up hype for its next project, one that’s in development at its UK arm. Crytek co-founder Avni Yerli tells Develop (http://www.develop-online.net/news/37289/Crytek-UK-project-set-for-E3-revea) that the unveil, which will likely make an E3 apperance, will make the gaming scene “very pleased.”We come to mutual conclusions on projects, and I think at E3 this year – or just after – we are going to make a big announcement that I think people will be happy about.
The sentiment that “people will be happy” certainly seems to indicate that something is receiving the sequel treatment. Could it be a new TimeSplitters? One can hope.
Prior to being acquired by Crytek UK, Free Radical were working on TimeSplitters 4 (http://exophase.com/7766/free-radical-asks-which-platform-would-you-like-to-see-timesplitters-4-on/). Since then, the studio has expressed interest (http://exophase.com/19344/crytek-may-revisit-timesplitters-universe/) in reviving the franchise, though nothing concrete has come to light.

Yeah I know it is for fun, but that doesn't mean that I still don't think it is retarded. Call of Duty is pretty stupid too, but I don't feel as ridiculous holding a controller and pointing a gun around on screen than I do holding a plastic mini guitar with a little thing that you flick on it. Also, I barely know how to shoot a gun and I'm pretty sure I'm never going to get the chance to run around and kill people, so it's fun to simulate that. But I can play guitar. And it isn't that much fun to simulate something that I can already do. I understand that it is more fun for people who can't. But whatever.

Recent survey sent by Sony to Ubisoft and other companies might have leaked out the official prices Sony is leaning towards for the NGP.
Based on the survey, the basic or Wifi NGP model will be priced at $250 and the premium or 3G NGP model will be priced at $350. The survey didn't have options for game prices but its assumed anywhere between $50 to $60 due to PSP games being $40 and NGP development costs being about 2-3 times higher.
If Sony sells the lower model for $250, they will lose out on a lot of money due to earlier reports rumored the NGP costing around $400-$500 to make. Also not announced was the pricing for the rumored subscription plan that was expected to subsidize some of the NGP production costs.

Instead of the usual announcement of the person or someone from the winning Super Bowl team for the cover of Madden, this year EA is holding a mini-tournament to find their next player for the cover.
Every team is represented by a player except if Seattle wins, then the fans (The 12th Man) would be on the cover. If the fans win, it would also be the only time non-players have been on the cover since the switch from John Madden to NFL players.
The fan voting takes place on ESPN Sportsnation website and ends April 27. EA is even holding bracket predictions that let you predict the whole bracket and join groups like the NCAA tournament on ESPN Fantasy games.

It turns out the project was in development once PD 1 was finished and only was canceled in 2009. The game would have let you pick between a male character or Joanna Dark but like Duke Nukem Forever, Rare had no clue on how what their final vision for the project would be.
The game was changed multiple times with the original change occurring when Rare canceled the Gamecube project, another when PD Zero was lackluster, and the final change somehow included a lot of mech-combat and scripted action scenes with no relation to anything in the Perfect Dark series.

Hopefully the Internet would somehow purge those fucking meme faces and make the internet a more humorous and less morale draining.

it would come out of the desk
if you put it 1/3 of the way in, then that 1/3 will be coming out
once you put the whole thing in you're left with the single desk again

Didn't think it was possible but Activision found a way to be shittier in selecting a video game cover than EA when it announced its own Cover Tournament to find the character to be on the next Call of Duty game.
Most of the names are generic (ex. US Army Guy Backlit) and while Activision is allowing people to predict and "vote", its not a true fan voting system like EA's bracket using ESPN Sportsnation.
Activision's version of the fans spot in this bracket would be "asshole xbox live players".
