It would have made me very interested in the game. The demo did absolutely nothing for me, though.

It's a very well made action game. Under the hood it's actually something akin to Devil May Cry or Bayonetta.

Yeah it's really strange at first. People would expect a platformer or something more casual by the looks of it.

Show me your papers.

Always reminds me of the boat level in the MoH where you're undercover and the German guard says that. In English, aswell. You press the button to show your papers but the animation makes it look like your shoving them right in the guards face, like you have some anger issues. "Here are my papers! *presses and rubs them against guards face* Satisfied?!"

I just don't see the point in saying that. The tracks are where you can get really creative, and affect the gameplay.

They've done land, sea, air and antigravity. What's left without getting really ridiculous?

Kalyx triaD

They haven't done sea per se, as those sections are functionally still road racing. Sonic All Stars and Diddy Kong Racing did water racing.

Sepholio
06-09-2014, 06:04 PM
A new Diddy Kong racing would be awesome.

Or at least a Mario Kart game that has a 'hub-style' overworld map with secrets abound. That would be epic.

I'm reading some stories about how a new Xbox One advert featuring Aaron Paul is making people's Xbox One's turn on when Aaron Paul says "Xbox on".

It reminds me of that video a guy made of another Xbox One advert, that had a women in it say "Xbox, go to Dead Rising 3" and the guy's Xbox One launched Dead Rising 3.

Drakul
06-13-2014, 02:34 AM
Is that advert with guy that seem to be an overgrown arrogant fratboy? Who the hell answers their phone with a semi-aggressive "Yo!"?

If the advert had sold me an Xbox one, that "Yo!" would undo it.

One version of the Steam Machines revealed to be a handheld and will be called the SteamBoy. Its being developed by a company called SteamBoy Machine studio.

The device will feature both WiFi and 3G network models, but no additional information was given at the time.

“SteamBoy is the first device that allows to play Steam games on the go,” the team mentioned in a press release. “You will keep playing your favorite games at the bus, the office, the school or the doctor's waiting room.”

The device looks similar to a Steam Controller and a PlayStation Vita combined in a strange-yet-comforting hybrid. It features Steam Controller’s two touchpads, eight action buttons, four triggers and two additional buttons on the back. According to The Escapist, the device will likely feature an APU setup with quad-core CPU, 4GB REM, 32GB built-in memory and a 5” 16:9 touchscreen.

“SteamBoy won't be as powerful as other announced Steam Machines in the same way [the] Nintendo 3DS or PS Vita performance is not comparable to Wii U or PlayStation 4,” a SteamBoy Machine team rep told The Escapist. “However, it will be possible to play the majority of current games in Steam.”

I have MadDog McCree and Dragons Lair on dvd. They came in a magazine I got years ago. They are literally just interactive movies. I think the modern equivalent is games like Ryse, Heavy Rain etc where you appear to be just getting pulled along a lot of pre-scripted events and press the right button when prompted. They may not be as devoid of gameplay as the laserdisc games I mentioned but they seem pretty close. I admit I've played neither Ryse nor Heavy Rain but from the gameplay I've seen and what I've heard about from those that have played them, the comparison seems accurate.

According to a report on GamesBeat, the retail giant recently met with investment company R.W. Baird to talk about the company's future, and one of Baird's analysts has revealed some of the things that they spoke about.

"[GamesStop] indicated that software publishers are more enthusiastic about partnering with it," Baird's Colin Sebastian wrote. "For example, by offering exclusive content on each major game release, and longer term, future models may include GameStop offering exclusive gameplay."

GamesBeat asked him to clarify what exactly that "future model" meant, and Sebastian added the retailer is thinking about "getting involved at the time of game development where there could be some content exclusive to [the retailer] included in the game."

So if you thought it was stupid that peripheral content like skins and maps was split up between retailers, just wait until GameStop can offer actual parts of a game you can't get anywhere else. Then wait for Walmart and Best Buy and Amazon to catch on. It'll be great.

We've contacted GameStop for comment, and will update if we hear back.

Yes, I know they have different speeds silly. I meant that they will decide which of those tiers gets access to specific apps such as Netflix, Hulu, etc. They already cornered Netflix earlier this year and said "Hey, you want us to keep offering bandwidth to stream your service to Netflix customers? GIEF US MOAR MONEYS!" And Netflix basically had to cave. The result, as Kalyx said, Netflix raised the subscription prices.

Also, with the demand of social networking (and how widely used it is), more streaming, the infrastructure upgrades that will be required to maintain the current level of service will be massive. That cost will be forwarded to the consumer, just as in any other market. Translated to nerd

The IEEE 802.3 Ethernet Bandwidth Assessment report, which precipitated the launch of the IEEE 802.3 Industry Connections Higher Speed Ethernet Consensus group in August 2012, forecasted that networks will need to support 58 percent compound annual growth rates (CAGRs) on average. Driven by simultaneous increases in users, access methodologies, access rates and services (such as video on demand and social media), the report said, networks would need to support capacity requirements of 1 terabit per second in 2015 and 10 terabit per second by 2020 if current trends continue. These open Industry Connections efforts helped build consensus on the need for an Ethernet solution beyond 100 Gb/s and to launch a "call for interest" within IEEE for a study group to explore development of a 400 Gb/s Ethernet standard.

http://standards.ieee.org/news/2013/400gbs_ethernet.html

1TB/sec ethernet - nuff said.

Also, faith in Google fiber will need to be bundled with faith in your local city willing to lease Google space on their poles. Seeing as how AT&T and Comcast/Time Warner has a stranglehold on the majority of said poles, the Kansas City debacle is just the start of the difficulties they will face for national implementation. Even at that, they will be limited in their services because they are not licensed as a telecommunications provider. Their entire scope of that project will need to change before they can massively launch their fiber on a national level.

It's not so much original ideas or gameplay innovation, it's about how you do it. Everything's been done for the most part, what you innovate or originate is the style of old tropes. Unless something is super specifically what you're thinking, don't let up. Make adjustments, iterate, rock that shit.

Certain indy fighting games have used the main gimmick of my main fighting game, and most notably Mortal Kombat X has also adopted it. I take a look, compare and contrast, and keep it moving.

Manuel Noriega sues Activision over Call of Duty

http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/76296000/jpg/_76296437_76296434.jpg

Manuel Noriega, the former dictator of Panama, is suing Call of Duty's video games publisher.

The ex-military ruler is seeking lost profits and damages after a character based on him featured in Activision's 2012 title Black Ops II.

The 80-year-old is currently serving a jail sentence in Panama for crimes committed during his time in power, including the murder of critics.

One lawyer said this was the latest in a growing trend of such lawsuits.

"In the US, individuals have what's called the right to publicity, which gives them control over how their person is depicted in commerce including video games," explained Jas Purewal, an interactive entertainment lawyer.

http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/76298000/jpg/_76298463_4e42a9bf-9868-403c-a7d8-9c3c2bea5228.jpg

"There's also been a very well-known action by a whole series of college athletes against Electronic Arts, and the American band No Doubt took action against Activision over this issue among other cases.

"It all focuses upon the American legal ability for an individual to be only depicted with their permission, which in practice means payment of a fee.

"But Noriega isn't a US citizen or even a resident. This means that his legal claim becomes questionable, because it's unclear on what legal basis he can actually bring a case against Activision."

'Enemy of the state'

In Activision's video game, Noriega initially helps the CIA capture a Nicaraguan terrorist, but later turns on the Americans and is hunted himself.

In reality, Noriega did work as a CIA informant before the agency broke ties with him. After the US became concerned about his violent rule, President George Bush ordered the invasion of Panama in 1989, which resulted in his capture.

http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/76296000/jpg/_76296430_4da0ba03-113c-4990-9293-69e43017c43f.jpg

A 13-page document filed in Noriega's name claims that he is portrayed as a "kidnapper, murderer and enemy of the state" responsible for "numerous fictional crimes" in Black Ops II, according to Courthouse News Service.

It alleges his inclusion heightened the game's sense of realism, helping boost its sales.

The game - which was scripted by David Goyer, screenwriter of the recent Batman movies - was 2012's biggest-selling title in the US, UK and elsewhere.

A spokeswoman for Activision declined to comment.

Permission payouts

The California-based company previously reached an undisclosed out-of-court settlement with the band No Doubt after the musicians sued over the use of their singer, Gwen Stefani, performing songs by other artists in the game Band Hero.

http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/76298000/jpg/_76298458_614bc3d7-7e27-429f-9d5c-f5f8f178fcf6.jpg

Earlier this year, its rival EA Sports agreed to a $40m (£23m) payout after US college football and basketball players complained their likenesses had featured in several of the firm's titles.

Meanwhile, the publisher Take-Two Interactive is currently facing a related case in which the actress Lindsay Lohan claims a character in Grand Theft Auto V is based on her image, voice and clothing styles.

While such examples have been based on US law, Mr Purewal added that games firms had not been immune to similar complaints in the UK.

"In the UK, we have the right to privacy, which is slowly being extended to cover how celebrities and other well-known people are depicted online and in video games," he explained.

"So, for example, Lady Gaga took action against the British video games company Mind Candy over the depiction of a character called Lady Goo Goo in its game Moshi Monsters.

"But it is happening a lot more in the US at the moment."

Harmonix is considering the idea of reviving the Rock Band series in the near future according to a recent survey sent.

At the top of the questionnaire, the Massachusetts-based studio, says, the feedback will be “hugely helpful for us at Harmonix as we plan for the future.” Such feedback would be in regard to how frequent gamers play Rock Band and its DLC offerings in addition to the number of instruments owned and which last-gen platforms they were played on.

The survey’s final question asked fans to rank their excitement for 5 possible options Harmonix could take the franchise next. In no particular order, the developer polled fans on a new Rock Band game for Xbox One, PS4 and Wii U or if they would want upgraded versions of existing instruments for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii. A return to DLC is also an option, gaging interest in a sale of the existing songs or brand new tracks to jam out to.

Bought MvC Origins as it was 50% off. Controls don't seem to respond to move inputs all the time and Onslaught is utter garbage. I'm not even angry about it. It's just...urgh:nono:. He's like the kid that always had to have a magic way out of any situation he didn't like when you roleplayed a fight as a child.
Got to a point where I just did not care if I won or lost. Kinda wish I could get a refund. I was wondering why it's XBLA rating was so low. It's like ★★★ at most, I think.

Megaman and Ryu, and just spam projectiles. That's how I beat him in the arcade back in the day.

I was thinking a projectile heavy character would be easier but any character combination should be usable. I know the old cheat game devs did with arcade games, making the boss unfairly hard so you'd pay up to keep trying because you're so close to beating the game.
I might have done a little better if the inputs worked. Down to forward and punch should do move X so I do it but my guy decides he'd rather just ignore the down to forward bit and do the standard punch instead.

Why did they never put the SFA games on the 360?

I hope EA is using a similar system for Dragon Age, from what I understand as of now they are using a system that lets you pick your choices for any decisions you made in past games. Yeah the demo is what kept me from playing it for so long. I bought it on the cheap because I kept hearing how good it was, and kept it on my shelf for a long time because the demo, which is the opening tutorial, was pretty boring. After the first hour or so worth of game time, when you finally make it into town, it starts to pick up and ends up pretty compelling, but that first section is just no bueno.

Why they aren't making a remake right now....

STFU Drave.

Also one of those 'industry insiders' who like right 95% of the time with his predictions/rumors said shortly after that article that the remake was happening and was going to be ps4 exclusive. Apparently coming as soon as next year with it supposedly being unveiled at E32015. I saw this reported on destructoid, n4g, neogaf, and several other sites.

I hope this isn't one of the 5% times he is completely off base or I might stab someone.

NO YOU!

I really want this game to be remade. I would purchase a PS4 for it if it is exclusive.

Also, some focker thought it necessary to open a lawsuit against Sony for Killzone not rendering native 1080p in multiplayer. Seriously.... litigious fuckheads are going to ruin gaming.

Urgh.

I'm sure I'll be in the cold cold ground by the time a new TimeSplitters game is made.

Why don't they just sell it? If they put the rights up for sale, there will most likely be a company willing to buy it and create the games.

Why have the rights to the game, when you're not going to do anything with it, apart from tell the people who want a new game "We like TimeSplitters too!".

Me neither, maybe it's because I never beat it until after the patch came out, but it seemed pretty solid.

I did pre and post patch and still don't get the bitchfest. Guess everyone wanted their "happily ever after" ending or something.

The story climaxed well and the ending(s) made perfect sense. Maybe some could not wrap their minds around the philanthropic topic that is the creation/destruction of life, etc.

DaveBrawl
08-08-2014, 10:25 AM
Well if you mined enough materials/edited your save so you had enough like I did, you sort of got a happy ending. They weren't all together, but everyone lived...except the Dr. as I did not make the right choices on that one.

I explored absolutely every single thing I could. I love the world, the lore, story, etc. First play through though, I lost a few people, no big deal, that happens in most every game.

Dunno, but game snobs can fuck right off this generation with the whole "The ending isn't what I/WE wanted, it isn't 1080p 60fps --> GTFO" crap. Some people are rotten.

DaveBrawl
08-08-2014, 11:29 AM
Very true. I know I lost a couple, was way to happy to kill off Kaidan in exchange for Ashley/the love of my Chuck Norris doppelgangers life. Never could get into the mining and exploring stuff though. Was initially dreading doing all of the sidequests, but I grew to love the story so much I ate most of them up.

Don't really get the whole mandatory 1080p, 60fps stuff. As long as the picture isn't really grainy or most importantly laggy I'm fine with it.

Pretty shit about the new Tomb Raider being Xbox exclusive, especially when it was advertised as multi-platform and I fucking pre-ordered it on PS4.

Hopefully it's a timed release, but the whole situation feels shady and a kick in the balls to fans on PC and PS4.

So did your pre-order get cancelled? I see it is still up on places like Amazon for every platform.
