Large plains, forests, a river curving into the horizon, with ominous mountains in the background isn't a Wyoming Park thing. It looks really accurate (to that concept art of that angle) but it seems more a really cool coincidence. There's likely other areas like this at certain angles.

It does the job in a basic way and has enough customisation to be great, but if you use things that don't call the GPU in Direct 3D, it won't work. Like not sure about Fire Pro, but I can't record Wrestling Revolution.

OBS and XSplit are great, just personal preference on either of those. They're designed to stream, but you can just point it to a window to record and do all the streaming overlays and shit if you want, then point it to do a local record to file instead of streaming to Twitch etc.

Gearbox basically calling it quits on Battleborn with the next update to be the last for the game. Servers for multiplayer won't be going away any time soon but the dev team pretty much has moved on to other things now.

Game itself was released on May 2016 but to abysmal sales and by the summer was basically dead in terms of playerbase on PC. Not even going free-to-play did much to boost its struggles. Also probably didn't help it was released around the same window as Overwatch which demolished it in sales and interest.

Looks cool but where would the gameplay come from if things can be automated and everything is just one button?
Still, might be fun to mess around with. I've got a friend who button mashes in fighting games because they find the controls a bit much. Would be cool having something to play with them. Not that it matter because it's not out on the Xbox One or Switch.

Some of the animations looked pretty close to SFIV animations. At 0:42 it's a tweaked SPD, at 0:55 it's Kens Ultra Shoryuken, at 1:30 the rock guys splash looked like Zangiefs.

It's not on auto. You still have to use every strategy other fighting games have. That rock guy dude? Imagine playing Zangief for all the same except for needing to do 360s. There's lots of videos where people are eating crow saying how actually smooth and engaging the combat is.

Also David Sirlin who designed this (and also head of SSF2HDR development) is open about loving SF and was very deliberate using moves from it.

The on-going voice actors strike with the gamin industry is rumored to be ending soon after a tentative agreement was reached with the gaming companies involved in the strike. Lasted for around 11 months which ended up being the longest in SAG history.

In one of those "Did You Know Gaming" type facts, Namco originally had plans for Final Fantasy VII's Cloud to be the special guest fighter for the PS2 version of Soul Calibur II.

They had a tentative deal in place to use the character but something happened at the last minute causing it to be shelved. Tekken's Heihachi was used as a quick replacement to ensure each version of the game still had an exclusive fighter.

Came from a recent 8-4 Play podcast episode with Ubisoft's Nao Higo and Jason Shroeder as the guests. At the time of Soul Calibur II, Higo was the Localization Producer for Namco.

Not even an hour into Shadow of War and I've had my first holy shit moment with the nemesis system.

I run into this super powerful orc captain while chasing another that was retreating. He and his gang pretty much wreck my shit. Some random spear chucking enemy ends up delivering the final blow, which of course promotes him to captain and he's now Bolg the Tark Killer. So I say fuck that, and take on a revenge mission to go kill him. Not only will I get sweet retribution, but if you kill a captain who once killed you get legendary gear from him. Unfortunately he also gets some major buffs and combined with the fact that I just started and don't have the mechanics mastered yet....he killed me again. Almost fucking had him.

At this point I'm thinking I should probably leave it and just level up for now. But pride won out, and I decided to go after him one last time. It's not til I activated the mission that I realized that for killing me again his level increased to over three times my own. So yeah. That was demoralizing. But I manage to kill the other nearby orcs first so I can battle him one on one. He taunts me all like "You know the more times I kill you, the more people call me Tark Slayer". I give it my best shot, but his level is just too high now. He knocks me down and as the killing blow cinematic starts, I start thinking about things I can do to level up and come back. Right before his sword hits me some random soldier comes in and IMPALES HIM KILLING HIM FUCKING DEAD RIGHT FUCKING THERE.

The screen flashed something, and the soldier said something but I didn't see or hear it because I'm just sitting there with my mouth agape processing what just happened for a good 5 seconds before I yell FUCK YEAH and scare my roommate half to death.

It was probably one of the coolest gaming moments I've had in a long time. This game is fucking tits.

No, I can choose to get short cuts for gear in BF while still needing to unlock the mods and perks (for vehicles). Not to mention the starting weapons could be used the whole time as the weapons in BF didn't escalate in power as you progressed. You basically took a shortcut for more options out of the gate, but there wasn't any crazy advantage. The optics of it all was the controversy, imo.

In Battlefront 2 actual game changing perks of various levels are on the line, and merely having a lot of these cards enable you to have a bigger set (three slots) leading to an objectively stronger character on the field. And that's not even mentioning the higher lvl cards that you can just get at random, or create by upgrading a normal card.

A direct comparison would be if BF offered loot packs with very useful perks in them, with a chance for even better versions of perks, for no other reason than you purchased it, and then you can stack it after the fact. Everything about Battlefront 2 is much better than the last one but their loot system is easily the most infringing on gameplay balance.

I don't mind as much since this was always designed on the more casual end of shooters, the last one was just too casual. Not it's a good mix of arcade and agency.

What's the specific concept?

Each match starts with 100 players parachuting from a plane onto a map area approximately 8 by 8 kilometres (5.0█mi ×█5.0█mi) in size.[2] The plane's flight path across the map varies with each round, requiring players to quickly determine the best time to eject and parachute to the ground.[1] Players start with no gear beyond customized clothing selections which do not affect gameplay. Once they land, players can search buildings and other sites to find weapons, vehicles, armor, clothing, and other equipment. These items are procedurally distributed throughout the map at the start of a match, with certain high-risk zones typically having better equipment.[1] Killed players can be looted to acquire their gear as well.[1] Players can opt to play either from the first-person or third-person perspective, each having their own advantages and disadvantages in combat and situational awareness; though server-specific settings can be used to force all players into one perspective to eliminate some advantages.[1][3]
Every few minutes, the playable area of the map begins to shrink down towards a random location, with any player caught outside the safe area taking damage incrementally, and eventually being eliminated if the safe zone is not entered in time; in game, the players see the boundary as a shimmering blue wall that contracts over time.[4] This results in a more confined map, in turn increasing the chances of encounters.[1] During the course of the match, random regions of the map are highlighted in red and bombed, posing a threat to players that remain in that area.[5] In both cases, players are warned a few minutes before these events, giving them time to relocate to safety.[6] At random, a plane will fly over various parts of the playable map and drop a loot package, containing items which are typically unobtainable during normal gameplay. PS4 has 3 to 1 market penetration in the rest of the world compared to XB1.

Also XB1 lost the HUGE advantage that the 360 had over PS3 in North America. 360 nearly doubled sales totals of PS3 in North America. PS4 leads XB1 in sales in North America by 2-3 million.

Also 360 was semi-competitive with PS3 in Europe, not the case with PS4 vs XB1, where PS4 now has a 3 to 1 lead.

Microsoft has had one popular console. They lost the global race with it even though they carried a huge advantage in North America. Globally, PS3 did 86.8 million and 360 did 85.8 million. Now they are losing North America and getting slaughtered everywhere else in the world. PS4 has sold 63.6 million, Xbox has sold 31.1 million, with 2/3 of that coming from North America. Xbox is a niche brand.

If Xbox is niche or limited what's a Switch or gaming PC? Both have a decent install base but there's a reason AAA gaming consoles are spoken of in binary.

They are the 2 consoles that are competing with each other right now...I could have added in how the original Wii destroyed everything in sales at the time for the sake of the argument, but I didn't feel it was needed to make the point. I left out the switch because it's a brand new console and due to not having the same time being released can't be accurately compared in sales to the other 2 right now. Switch has a total of 6 million in sales because it has been out for 6 months, as opposed to 4 years. There is no way to extrapolate how much it will sell at this point.

There is no way to even bring PC into this argument because the sales figures for gaming rigs aren't even trackable as far as I know since a good chunk are built by the user.

Either way, adding the only other console company in the Xbox time frame, Nintendo, further cements their niche status. Sure, the Wii U flopped, but the Wii itself outsold every Microsoft console combined.
