1) Update to recent Steam allowing mods to be sold news as it didn't take long before people started to abuse the system and start complaining en masse. One mod so far has been removed due to stolen content while a petition has started for Valve to ditch the new system.

Really hoping none of this crap won't effect Phantom Pain in some way.

Happened a lot sooner than I thought it would but Valve has removed the ability to sell paid mods on Steam at least for the near future. Pretty much admitted they misjudged the entire situation and the backlash from it.

To help you understand why we thought this was a good idea, our main goals were to allow mod makers the opportunity to work on their mods full time if they wanted to, and to encourage developers to provide better support to their mod communities. We thought this would result in better mods for everyone, both free & paid. We wanted more great mods becoming great products, like Dota, Counter-strike, DayZ, and Killing Floor, and we wanted that to happen organically for any mod maker who wanted to take a shot at it.

But we underestimated the differences between our previously successful revenue sharing models, and the addition of paid mods to Skyrim's workshop. We understand our own game's communities pretty well, but stepping into an established, years old modding community in Skyrim was probably not the right place to start iterating. We think this made us miss the mark pretty badly, even though we believe there's a useful feature somewhere here.

Bethesda recently spoke on the situation about why they supported paid mods and it was mostly around the idea of rewarding modders with the ability to make money. Also confirmed the 25% split modders got with the main reason being they took majority share at 45% (Valve took standard 30% Steam fee). Also admitted to the idea being a lot worse than they originally thought.

We believe most mods should be free. But we also believe our community wants to reward the very best creators, and that they deserve to be rewarded. We believe the best should be paid for their work and treated like the game developers they are. But again, we don’t think it’s right for us to decide who those creators are or what they create.

Been arguing that shit for years. Apparently I take things too seriously and should stop being an elite fuck boy. But here we are. Games are shit. Master game designers are leaving and going indy in droves. Good stuff are few or given out in less and less quantity filling out with DLC 'expansions'. And people just aren't enjoying themselves anymore while not knowing what exactly went wrong with gameplay.

But I don't wanna take it too seriously.

I haven't gotten as jaded with the gaming world, but then again I play a lot of digital indy games, where the creativity isn't stifled, so I still experience a lot of the "magic" of video games on a regular basis.

I think you need to take a break and play stuff like Ori and the Blind Forest once in a while. I am exited for Bloodstained, and Mighty No. 9, and Yooka Laylee too. But if everyone did what they did, we would just get an endless stream of games that give new twists on old formulas. Some of the games I mentioned above go much further to distinguish themselves and present something new, than any spiritual successor ever could.

Obviously there is risk involved with straying from successful archtypes, and yes, there are a lot of digital games out there that are garbage, because different doesn't automatically mean good. But when different is backed up by great design, and actual thought into making it work, there's nothing quite like the experience.

So yeah, if you're talking about xbox's crappy 99 cent indie games I'm with you, but if you're talking about all these digital releases we've gotten over the years? Nah. Have to disagree. Vehemently.

I see what you're saying. But I'm not too concerned with 'alternate takes' and experimenting with genres. I mean some of my fave games were once upon a time new things, so I'm not against it - it's just... I dunno... boring? Actually I think the thing is I lean toward competitive multiplayer and not many smaller games go for that. I'm fine with shooter, fighter, arcady stuff. Even some of the games you mentioned could be boiled down to mechanics you already valued. I'm a guy who's content with Tetris, and it takes a bit to get me into new games. So I'm not disagreeing completely, many of those just don't do it for me.

I will say Fez is garbage, though. Objectively. Second me.

Warner Bros currently rumored to be considering releasing HD remakes of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City for the PS4 and Xbox One based on a recent leaked survey.

According to a different report by IGN, this HD remake set is rumored to be arriving around the time of Arkham's Knight release.

A NeoGAF user claimed to have found leaked survey data that shows WB Games is working on HD remasters for the games and is asking for user input. One polling question asked the respondent to rank interest in the remastered games from 1 to 7. Another question asked the respondent to choose the name that makes him/her most interested in buying the products: Batman: Arkham Anthology, Absolute Arkham, Arkham Legacy, Arkham Masterpiece Collection, Arkham Remastered, uncertain or none of the above.

According to the material, the collection will be considered one full game. The poll asks the respondent to choose one of three different artworks to be the game’s cover art. The poll warns the respondent that these art concept artworks and may not be a part of the finished product.

The information presented alleges that revamped visuals and textures are not all the collection will offer. The game will offer upgraded models, environments, lighting, effects and shaders. There will also be new post processing effects.

Dark Souls III rumored once again to be getting a possible reveal during E3 with supposed screenshots and early info recently leaked.

According to the leaked info, the game is set to arrive next year for the PS4 and Xbox One while a PC version is uncertain in terms of a possible release.

The game is coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2016. PC is also listed, but is accompanied by the word “negotiable.”
The game will support “1-4 players,” meaning it’s possible you can summon more than one friend or there might be a player-versus-player element.
10 playable classes, all available from the beginning of the game.
45 new enemies, 15 new bosses. Characters and monsters from previous games are not included in that count.
100 new weapons and 40 new armor sets with returning equipment not counted in that number.
60 minutes of cutscenes, mostly in engine, rather than pre-rendered.
There will be around 12 areas in the game.
Will change the way you interact with players online. You’ll now participate in “Sacrifice Ceremonies.” You can drag bodies around, choose where to sacrifice them, perform the ritual, and visit another player’s game. Doing this makes you a target for other players. These will also change your game, such as a sacrifice creating a bonfire at the location you choose to sacrifice the body.
Light sources and enemy layouts have been changed.
BOss battles have a new “Heat Up” factor that “completely change” boss battles based on undescribed factors.
The game will add “Sword Fighting Arts,” which including “Rush In” and “Circle.” The former is a sacrifice attack that allows you to dive into an opponent and take damage while delivering a huge hit, while the latter sounds like a dodge move.

This is almost a deal breaker for me. Sadly, the pathetic limitation of modern couch multiplayer the last two generations has prepared me for this.

Armature Studio which is handling the Wii U and Vita ports of Bloodstained stated they are working on getting the Unreal Engine 4 to run on both platforms. The plan is to get the customized engine to work on those platforms and then release the source code for free so that other developers can port their UE4 games to both platforms.

Only downside is the source code won't get released until some time after the game's release (early 2017).

“Hi Bloodstained backers - Armature here with another update. It turns out that a people have shown a ton of interest in our plan to port UE4 to the WiiU and PS Vita. Since they're not officially supported platforms, it's going to be a lot of work to get Bloodstained and UE4 on these platforms, but we are up to the challenge.

“Since the community got these platforms off the ground, we figure that it's best to let the community have them back when we're done. Occulus had an event today. Will be out early 2016 with an XBox controller and some hand tracking controllers coming later. Can also play XB1 games, but in a stupid virtual living room.

Worst news is that some PC games are Occulus exclusive for VR, so you have to buy into their bullshit instead of something like the HTC Vive. Split the user base before it begins.

If anyone was interested in playing Shenmue I and/or II because of Shenmue III's announcement, now is not a good time to do so. Prices for both at least on Amazon spiked big since III's announcement.

Shenmue I spiked by around 200-250% ($90-$100 average right now) while II spiked by around $60-$70 on average.

On the flip side, best time to sell either game and make some good money.

Worth mentioning, in regards to Shovel Knight and Smash. Lucas, Roy, Mewtwo and Ryu were NOT added as a result of the fan poll. The fan characters are still to come. The only reason I can imagine Shovel Knight not getting in Smash, as it seems like almost anything can happen these days,is the fact he isn't a huge deal in Japan, as far as I'm aware.
I feel if a character is huge in Japan but unknown in the west, they are still viable but if a character is huge in the west but virtually unknown in Japan, they are automatically extremely unlikely to make it.

When Nintendo puts out a Nintendo Direct and someone speaks Japanese, Europe gets it in Japanese with subtitles while America gets it dubbed over with an American voice.
Refrences to Japan, like rice balls, become western things like sandwiches in the US.
Kirby is always tough and angry on American box art because they don't think you'll buy it if he looks cute and happy.
The SNES got a makeover in the US, becoming blocky and dull because they thought you'd not want it if it was curvy and colourful.

Nintendo seems to think very little of Americans, in my opinion. Everything has to be "cool" and as American as possible as if anything that isn't will terrify you.

We have a localisation team but that seems to be more for translation. We get a mix of Japanese stuff (The Japanese SNES model) and American stuff (American spelling in a lot of games, the Kirby boxart thing)

I bought the deluxe WiiU that came with the dock as a throw-in. Thing is amazing, really glad I didn't opt to not buy it.

Really hope the NX doesn't come out so soon. But that's just me being selfish since I finally jumped on the WiiU train ~a month ago and I'd hate to see them "give up" on the console so soon.

DC?I bought the extended battery, even though it's overkill. I just didn't like having to think about it all the time.

With DC I mean that it's a DC charger. I'd always be worried about unoffical chargers if it's something that needs a lot of power or an AC thing, but in my head DC chargers are usually safer to use an unofficial thing with. That's me talking out of my arse though. It will probably be quite tough to find one if they're not selling them individually.

The NX won't be out for a few years. They only had to bring it up because people freaked out when they said they were going mobile. They've been frank about the Wii U doing poorly but they're not going to execute it.

I emailed Nintendo about the Wii U gamepad charger. The only way to buy an official one, in the UK, is to call customer service and pay £15 over the phone. Delivery can take 7 to 14 days.

Why not just have them on the UK store like NoA has them up on their store? Why do they hide this information unless asked?

2) Activision revealed the Juggernog Edition for Call of Duty Black Ops 3 will include an actual mini-fridge among the items available. Zombie Mode was revealed to be called "Shadows of Evil", launches same day as the game itself, and has Jeff Goldblum among the voice cast.

3) Hasbro announced Platinum Games' Transformers: Devastation will be arriving on October 6th and also released a new gameplay trailer today at Comic Con.

4) According to DeNa, their mobile partnership with Nintendo will have 5 games released by the end of April 2017 with one arriving later this year. Also have plans for all 5 games to be from different genres for variety.
