Didn't think it was possible but Activision found a way to be shittier in selecting a video game cover than EA when it announced its own Cover Tournament to find the character to be on the next Call of Duty game.
Most of the names are generic (ex. US Army Guy Backlit) and while Activision is allowing people to predict and "vote", its not a true fan voting system like EA's bracket using ESPN Sportsnation.
Activision's version of the fans spot in this bracket would be "asshole xbox live players".

I did after noticing the Kotaku 2011 mark but not initially when posting the report. Kotaku's new layout makes it a bit tougher to view images than before.
Would not be surprised if Activision really did something like this for their next cover.

Capcom announces plans of bringing 2 past Resident Evil games to get the HD port/remake treatment. Resident Evil 4 HD and Code Veronica HD are expected to arrive on the PS3 and Xbox 360 in a single collection being called Resident Evil Revival Selection.
No new gameplay features or stuff will be added to the games but Resident Evil 4 is expected to get another Ada mission mode to go along with Assignment Aada and Seperate Ways.
If it does indeed occur, this would make Resident Evil 4 arrive for the first time on a Microsoft console (no Xbox version) and the 2nd time the game has been enhanced this generation (RE 4 Wii Edition).
It would also make it the 4th RE game in the series to have a remake/port this generation (RE 1, RE Zero, RE 4, and RE Code Veronica).

Actually... if you wanna get deep into the mythology perhaps the Wii games will do. They retread the first games with added elements and characters. Or you could wiki it.

Haha I played the PS1 X-Files game in college. My girlfriend at the time was a huge X-Files nerd, and I did it just to appease her. It was god-awful; would have never completed it quickly without a walkthrough. I remember one part where there was a bullet I had to find that was like five pixels on the screen.
Can't remember if I played through the PS2 one or not. I think I did? I remember starting it for sure.

SPEAKING OF RE!
The May 2011 issue of Official Xbox Magazine will feature a new Resident Evil game as its cover story, titled Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, according to Stickskills. Supposedly, this is the long-rumored game by ex-SOCOM developer Slant Six.
RE:ORC will be set in 1998, taking you back to the original outbreak that defined the events in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. You'll be playing as four members of the Umbrella Security Services squad (inspired by RE2 hidden character Hunk) who are destroying all evidence of this outbreak in a team-based shooter. That includes killing both real zombies -- who can detect you through sight, sound, and smell -- and survivors!
From the looks of it, RE:ORC will be as much about direct combat as it will be about manipulating "Umbrella-created horrors" and other opposition in fights between themselves. What is sure to raise some fans' eyebrows is that you'll also be able to "change the history of Resident Evil," potentially meeting and killing key RE universe characters and destroying canon. Another quote from OXM that may bother some: "It's not fair to give people big guns, then take all the ammo away."
RE:ORC is slated for a Winter 2011 release on Xbox 360 and PS3, and check out Stickskills for an extensive list of bullet points fromt he OXM cover story.

The survey for Forza 4 hints at a few new possible features the game will contain for the Kinect aspect of the game.
Choices from the survey include possible head tracking controls for viewing turns, a "casual" racing mode that lets players drive cars with their hands only, and voice controls for menu navigation.
Also hinted was the game to look about 10x better than Forza 3, a new campaign/challenge mode to increase the variety of races and challenges, and about 500 cars from 80 car companies to choose from.
A virtual tour mode also was hinted being voice controlled by Kinect for every car in the showroom.

ESRB leaked out info and details concerning Sega's upcoming Kinect game called Rise of Nightmares.
Similar to Splatterhouse and Bulletstorm, the game will be very gory and focused more on melee attacks in a horror theme/setting for story and gameplay.
ESRB description of the game:
This is a horror-adventure game in which players assume the role of an American tourist who must rescue his wife from a deranged scientist. From a first-person perspective, players use brass knuckles, knives, hatchets, and chainsaws to kill zombie-like creatures and disfigured monsters inside a mansion environment. Combat is highlighted by exaggerated sprays of blood, and damage often results in dismemberment or decapitation-stray body parts sometimes litter the ground. Some sequences and cutscenes depict more intense acts of violence: a man screams loudly as spikes impale his body; a restrained character's hand is chopped off before he is killed; a character (cut in half) crawls away in a pool of blood; a soldier is ripped apart by a monster, causing blood to stain the screen. During the course of the game, some female creatures are depicted in revealing outfits (e.g., 'pasties' that partially cover their breasts); in one sequence, a woman sits on the central character's chest and engages in suggestive dialogue (e.g., 'Oh, how I've thought of this-night after night. How I've missed these lips.'). Dialogue also includes phrases such as 'Best sex of my life.'/'Worst sex of my life,' 'f**k,' and 'sh*t.'
The game is set for a late 2011 release date.

Ok something's up with my 360... Or LIVE account, either way.
So monday afternoon, I try to go on my 360, it shows all of the accounts on my HDD but my main account 'Funk Bro' isn't there, I then checked on the system's memory and found that the Gamer Profile was corrupt. So I then recovered the account and it all worked fine, started playing again.
Last night, I was just looking through my achievements to see which games I didn't really give a real chance. Then, WHAM! right between Dragon Age 2 and Fallout 3 is Fight Night Round 4, a game I have never played, it had 2 achievements in it too...
So Fallout was the main game I was playing before the release of, DA2. I had been playing DA2 before and after the recover.
I'm zoinked... Not sure if somebody has recovered my account somehow or something else...

Monster Hunter for the 3DS confirmed to be in development after it was leaked of being rumored to be shown during this year's canceled Monster Hunter Festa. Capcom wanted to show off the game as the big announcement for the event but the recent earthquake forced them to cancel the event.
Since the next big convention is still months away and Nintendo's own conference planned with Capcom was also canceled, Capcom reports their big 3DS announcement will occur during April.
It is assumed this will be the official unveiling of Monster Hunter for 3DS due to everything else Capcom has planned was already announced before the event.

Sony officially axes their Playstation Rewards program for now and could end up canceling the entire thing as of today. The news comes arpund the same time Microsoft's announcement of starting a new "freebie" program and Nintendo's start of the U.S. Play Coins program.
Rumors range from Sony redoing the entire program to better compete with Nintendo Club and other free programs to dropping the program because it was getting too expensive to keep (ex. paid vacations to gaming conventions and studios).
The forums for Sony are split between making the program only for paid members (Playstation Plus) while others want non-paying members to have the same access to the program. Sony's original policy was to allow everyone to join but preference to paying users for membership.

Nintendo confirms the plans for the moment do not include adding 3D for their next console. A few reasons would be due to costs for both the consumer and production being too high and they want the 3DS enough time to have the "3D" features as a selling point.
Nintendo's main goal is to have 3D without the glasses for their consoles and at the moment its not practical and too expensive for their style of games and development.

More details concerning Microsoft's updating of their disc format will give 1 GB extra of disc space for developers to use but the added protection might not be as strong as expected.
The extra GB in space appears to be coming from the video partition of the restricted part of the disc. The extra space ends up giving developers about 15% more space to work with in their games.
Not even a day after the announcement, a hacker managed to get info on the tools and setup Microsoft will be using for the new protection. The new protection uses a lot more checks and loops but on a modified setup of the current protection system.

The Captain America video looks like it could be a good game, but the Thor one doesn't look all that good to me. Live action actor Thor just doesn't look right in a game, maybe I'm just resistant to change, but it would sit a lot better with me if they stuck to the art style characters for the game. I mean I realize it's a movie tie in and such, but you can have a standalone Thor game come out and not feature the actor.

It's not the costume that bothers me at all. It's more of the live action character that bothers me as opposed to a game like Arkham Asylum or even the Captain America video there where it has a more comic look while still looking somewhat realistic to it (if that makes sense). I mean I certainly realize why they have done it, and I know it sounds very picky to have a complaint like that, but that turns me off before I even get into the other parts of the video that look questionable. I guess it just doesn't look like it fits together quite right.
I mean the video for Cap at least looks interesting and it looks like it has a little variance to the gameplay at points. Thor just looks...meh. I mean I'm certainly willing to give it a chance, but the first impression it's given me isn't all that good.

That makes sense.
I was looking at it, and parts of it seemed interesting, like the Noir section and 2099 section, but the other 2 storyarcs seemed way too similar for my taste. Also I was just checking the achievements just to get a sample of some of what some of the missions would be like and I see they're timed. That kills it for me, I like to take my time and explore the levels and I doubt you'd be able to do that and still get the "platinums" as they call them.

Sony Online Entertainment confirms massive layoffs are occurring at 3 of their US studios as part of the restructuring that started earlier in the year when SOE also has layoffs at 3 of their UK studios. The news comes after the recent release of Free Realms and DC Universe Online.
Some of the fired workers will be moved to other Sony studios or higher priority projects but the majority will just be let go. These are not the usual QA and testers that are done by most studios after a game is released but the core developer teams.
The Agency MMO has been canceled due to lack of funds and manpower while the sales from DC Universe Online doesn't appear to be good when compared to the amount of money spent to get the DC character deals and development costs.
Traditionally, Sony has a bad history of maintaining and finishing most of their MMO projects with the exception of the Everquest series.

Silicon Knights lawsuit against Epic Games set to go to court pretty soon with SK arguing Epic Games purposely gave inferior versions of their Unreal Engine development kits to paying studios as a way of making sure games from Epic looked the best with the engine.
In 2007, Silicon Knights sued Epic Games for failure to "provide a working game engine" for Too Human, causing the Ontario based game developer to "experience considerable losses." Silicon Knights' suit alleged that Epic was "sabotaging" Unreal Engine 3 licensees, withholding an improved version of that game engine while also using licensing fees to fund development of Gears of War, not to improve the Unreal Engine.

Nintendo being rumored to have another massive surprise E3 showing with a lot of games to be revealed for a late 2011 release date (similar to Kirby's Epic Yarn last year).
The rumor is based on the UK branch of Nintendo saying that there are big plans for the 2nd half of the year with games and news. This comes along with another report confirming Xenoblade will be released outside of Japan for Europe later this year to early 2012 and a TBA for a US/Canada release date.
Also leaked was Dragon Quest X is nearing completion on development for the Wii and could arrive later this year or early 2012.
As of now just the new Kirby game and Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword are the big names for the 2nd half of the year on the Wii.

New details for Ninja Gaiden III confirm multiplayer and a "Dark Ryu" character in the game.
The new mulitplayer and gameplay changes are meant to let more people be able to enjoy the game while at the same time keeping some of the hard aspects the series is known for.
The "Dark Ryu" character was hinted as revealing more of Ryu's past that could change him from a purely good guy to a much darker hero for the upcoming game.
The game is set for Xbox 360 and PS3 with no release date announced as of yet.

It appears Rare is going to incorporate some of the hacks done by PC users and modders for mainly interface and operating a Kinect device rather than using it for games. Only online modes has been confirmed as stuff Rare will add to their future Kinect titles.

Alternate between Spidey and Spidey 2009 as you solve some issue between timelines. By the guys who did Shattered Dimensions.

http://bulk.destructoid.com/ul/197657-beenox-developed-spider-man-edge-of-time-announced/spider-manfull-noscale.jpg.
Earlier this week, Spider-Man: Edge of Time was announced and the world found out Peter Parker was going to die. To save him, Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099 would have to work together across time. And that was it. No explanation of what that meant. It sucked.
But now, after the WonderCon Spider-Man: Edge of Time panel, a few more story details are known. It seems an "evil scientist" in the 2099 world goes back in time to the Amazing Spider-Man time frame and kills Spidey. Spider-Man 2099 sees this, but it doesn't stop the world from going down a skewed path -- a trailer showed the Statue of Liberty in 2099 morphing into a sword-bearing woman as the timeline reacted to the death.
Knowing how things were supposed to be, Spider-Man 2099 reaches back to Amazing Spider-Man (pre-death), and the duo starts to work together -- although they don't get along at first. How do these heroes separated by time communicate? Picture-in-picture. When we're playing as one Spidey, we'll see the other in the bottom ring corner of the screen.
This partnership will have a bunch of time-bending effects. When we're playing as 2099 and Amazing knocks down a wall in his time, that wall's going to disappear in our time. One screenshot the panel showed was Amazing destroying a giant robot that was a prototype of the one 2099 was fighting in the future. When Amazing beats the prototype, the robot 2099 is fighting disappears.
Although the game will have you jumping between the two Spider-Mans, it's a single-player endeavor. Spider-Man: Edge of Time also isn't a sequel to last year's Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions. This is an original standalone story -- but it does borrow some of Shattered Dimensions' cast. Josh Keaton played Ultimate Spider-Man in Shattered Dimensions. Christopher Daniel Barnes was Noir Spider-Man in the last game and is 2099 in this one.
Oh, and if you're a super-Marvel fan and are pissed that this storyline mixes universes -- technically, Amazing and 2099 aren't in the same reality -- the creators say that they're on it and will explain it in the game.

For those who have had some issues with PSN or Sony's websites the last day or two, Anonymous revealed they are attacking Sony's web services as a counter to Sony's recent fight against piracy.
Specifically, Anonymous biggest complaint and reason for the attacks against Sony comes from the recent victory in court allowing Sony to get information and IPs of anyone who either has donated to Geohot or visited his website regardless of reason. Weeks earlier, Sony had threatened to sue Paypal and a few others if they continued to provide customer service to him.
The group also warned Sony that this was only the first attack and it could get worse if Sony continues going after everyone else not related to the Geohot group.
Officially, Sony claims the downtime was due to "maintenance" and never referenced the web attacks. PSN and other Sony websites have either been restored back to normal or keep experiencing sporadic service.

Buying DA II for consoles does count towards getting Mass Effect 2 for free but only the PC version of the game is being given away. Sony manages to forget all their hardship on making the PSP and PS3 a bit too expensive by stating in a press report that Sony isn't concerned about pricing their platforms (and games on a whole).
The boss of Sony tried to say that its better for a product to be seen as enjoyable for years and more valuable in features than in its initial or current price. This announcement comes after Sony's recent success of the PS3 sales at lower prices and after admitting the $600 PS3 price was a mistake.
Tretton added that "It's not to say the price of the platform isn't a consideration, but I don't think price makes or kills a platform,” speaking about console pricing in general and not pertaining to a specific platform. He also remarked that something lousy and very expensive is not going to be successful and that something that might be considered pricey will ultimately find its audience if there’s enough value to be had there.
He indirectly compared the PS3 to the iPhone/iPad line by saying people are willing to buy expensive things regardless of price.
Sony is also planning on putting some priority on 3D and Move-enabled games for their future success with the PS3.

They were getting there with Spidey 2 (Movie Game) but they just... abandoned it with Ultimate Spidey (high concept with adjusted system) and then Spidey 3 (poor design decisions influenced by industry). Friend or Foe was actually cute and okay, obviously away from a 'main game' thing. Web of Shadows was another high concept that missed the mark (but had an interesting action game design at least). Some of you may remember my disdain for Shattered Dimensions last year. My views on EoT isn't much better so far.

Anonymous war against Sony continues as the group issues 3 new demands with the biggest demand being for Sony to stop going after IP address and information of people not related to the Geohot lawsuit.
PSN and other Sony websites are still experiencing unstable performance with Sony admitting the hacking was the real reason and they were not doing any real "maintenance."
More bad news for Sony as their DMCA lawsuit against Geohot and others appears to be loosing due to Sony wanting to enable a provision meant only for wireless cellphones to be allowed for the PS3. Their lawsuit also appears to be switching focus from getting information to help their case to now getting as many names possible for future lawsuits unrelated to the current case.

Sony's Jack Tretton trashes the Gameboy/DS and people who play them by saying it is an embarrassment to be over 20+ years old to play those systems and Nintendo only makes "baby sitting tools".
This was also part of another trash talk saying Nintendo doesn't innovate or do anything special after he made fun of their motion controls and the lack of stuff the Wii doesn't have.
They’re starting to run out of steam now in terms of continuing to be relevant in 2011 and beyond. I mean, you’ve gotta be kidding me. Why would I buy a gaming system without a hard drive in it? How does this thing scale? Motion gaming is cute, but if I can only wave my arms six inches, how does this really feel like I’m doing true accurate motion gaming?"
"Our view of the ’Game Boy experience’ is that it’s a great babysitting tool, something young kids do on airplanes, but no self-respecting twenty-something is going to be sitting on an airplane with one of those. He’s too old for that."
This announcement comes only after Sony recently started their $129 PSP campaign that targeted teens as their main userbase in a few commercials and after copying motion controls months earlier with the PS Move controller.
He also trashed the Xbox 360 by saying its running out of steam and that Sony will easily close the gap and pass it in 2011. He sort of forgot the impact Kinect sales had in both units and games sold (2-3x more than PS Move and games).

Electronic Arts tinkering with the idea of progressive career modes that carry over from game to game instead of always having to start from scratch with each new game.
Most likely FIFA or Madden will be the 1st game to include this feature but it isn't expected to occur with this year's set of games (2012 set). It is also rumored should EA bring back the MVP baseball series, this would be the first game to use it to counter The Show's features on the PS3.
EA is calling this plan a Persistent Player Profile and would affect any career or My Player mode found in their sports games.
"It's no longer 'buy Madden 11 and then buy Madden 12 and start from scratch,'" Peter Moore, the EA Sports president, told the MI6 video game marketing conference in San Francisco. "It is 'take everything that you've done and migrate it and move it along.'"
The plan is not meant to replace the standard of buying $60 games into being a DLC roster/game update but as a extra feature to their customers who buy their annual games and want to save some time from redoing their careers each year.
EA did try something similar in the past with the EA Sports Bio that tied games from the same sports series or all EA Sports games into a single account. Back then it was used to unlock stuff in other EA Sports games and not continue a career mode.

Bioware's plans for a future Mass Effect game after ME 3 is released might involve making the next game in the series as an MMO.
The idea behind an MMO comes from Bioware wanting to add some type of multiplayer experience without rushing it for the sake of having one (ex. Dead Space 2) but as a way to expand the story and galaxy into something bigger.
"We’ve been trying to think of a way that makes sense for people to experience Mass Effect with their friends,” Hudson commented. He further added that they haven’t found a way to did this yet and that because of this; they don’t have any news to announce regarding this matter at this time. Although he did add that “obviously, multiplayer is something we want to do more of in the future as a company.”

Creator and lead engineer in the development of game cartridges as a way to hold games instead of pre-built into a console died on Sunday, April 10.
Jerry Lawson worked on the development team behind the Fairchild Channel F console in 1976 which ended up being the first console to use swappable game cartridges. Before this system, most consoles either had pre-built games or used floppy cards to help boot the program (game wasn't on the floppy itself).
Atari would end up using this idea behind the Atari 2600 which ended up becoming the first very successful game console with the mainstream consumers.

What's the story?
In this version of Dead Rising 2, Frank West went from high profile hero and celebrity to washed up has-been after the events of Dead Rising. Broke after launching a failed line of hair restoration products, Frank has come to Fortune City to appear on Terror is Reality and to revive his career - and get paid. After all, Frank is infected, which means every 24 hours, he'll need a dose of Zombrex to avoid a fate involving shuffling around, looking for people to eat.
It's not DLC?
Dead Rising 2: Off the Record is a full featured, full length retail release. Unlike the prequel Dead Rising 2: Case Zero or sequel Dead Rising 2: Case West, Off the Record will not be available as DLC.
What's returning?
The framework of events for Off the Record seems largely the same - a bizarre conspiracy is unfolding in Fortune City, setting free its zombie horde and trapping a group of citizen survivors in the city until help can arrive in 72 hours. Of course, not everything is the same. There are new areas of the Fortune City complex to explore, including new Psychos and new events, while most if not all of the old Psychos remain in the game. Also returning: combo weapons. There will also be new combo weapons available to Frank, though Capcom is mum on what those will be.
What's new?
While it's not new, Dead Rising 2: Off the Record does feature the return of the camera mechanic from Dead Rising, with improvements. For example, this time Frank is sporting a digital camera - no more searching for film. Frank will want to capture key plot moments to help expose the Fortune City conspiracy.
Where's Chuck?
Chuck is still in Fortune Ciy, though we don't know his whereabouts. However, Capcom has confirmed that partners in co-op will play Chuck to the main player's Frank.

In somewhat of a surprising announcement, Nintendo announced the remake of Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time for the 3DS was not developed by one of Nintendo's internal studios but outsourced to a new studio that has some former ties with Square-Enix.
Nintendo hand-picked Grezzo Games to develop the game which has some experience working with Nintendo in the past with their recent game coming last year on WiiWare. This studio was formed in 2006 after Koichi Ishii, creator of the Mana rpg series and worked on 5 of the earlier Final Fantasy games, left Square-Enix
The studio hasn't been alone in working on the project with input and advice coming from Nintendo to help with the enhanced port of the N64 game.
The 3DS version is set to arrive in stores on June 19 for the US/Canada and June 17 for the UK/Europe.

Capcom wants to get more user feedback for Mega Man Legends 3 designs with the current vote involving the design for Mega Man Volnnut.

Looks like it.
Nintendo's next console will debut at E3 in June, moving the maker of Mario and Zelda into the HD era. The news, first reported by Game Informer today, confirms rumors that have been swirling for months in the wake of slowing game releases from Nintendo.
Furthermore, we've heard that the machine will be more powerful than current-gen systems, meaning Nintendo, currently backing a Wii that is weaker in horsepower than the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, will be showing a new console that is more powerful than those current competitors.
We've asked Nintendo for comment and will let you know if they shock us and spill the beans. Update: Nintendo responded to our inquiry with a standard "Nintendo does not comment on rumor or speculation".
E3 kicks off on June 7, though Nintendo's E3 press conference may occur the day before, if tradition holds.

I don't know... it just doesn't seem like Nintendo's style to out class people on a technical trip. It wouldn't be the first time, but they've spent many years telling us how that wasn't their bag anymore. So these rumors are highly suspect - but rarely have I seen such unified reports on rumblings.

If the rumored predictions are true, then the next generation would end up as Nintendo in 2012, Microsoft in 2013, and Sony 2014 but could be forced to 2013 release.
It is also possible Nintendo could be using their new disc format for the Wii 2 since they are a member of a disc group (forgot the name of the disc). Also since they are carrying over DSi games to the 3DS, it shouldn't be hard for them to carry Wii VC and Wiiware to the next Wii system.

According to Bioware, one of the reasons Mass Effect became a series was due to the studio's decision to drop development on Jade Empire 2 and go with a new RPG-style series influenced by Star Wars Knights of the Republic.
When Jade Empire was released on the original Xbox, it was met with great reviews and customer support but a lack of sales hurt the chances of a sequel. The success of Star Wars Knights of the Republic made Bioware switch focus from a potential Jade Empire 2 to a new IP which later became Mass Effect.
Since Star Wars KotR ended up becoming very popular with its sci-fi setting and shooting segments, Bioware decided to use that game as the template when designing Mass Effect 1 and the ME series.
If the game was meant to have been completed, original plans were for a release on a trio of platforms (PC, Xbox 360, PS3) instead of just one. The first game was released on the PC but only 2 years after the Xbox game and by then too late to help since Mass Effect 1 was in development.

Kinect owners across the country can now use their hands to control Netflix thanks to the latest update from Microsoft. By using hand or voice commands, you're able to browse through your library.
Don't put down that controller yet. If you actually want to play a movie, you're still required to enter that command from an Xbox 360 controller.
The folks at Joystiq gave Microsoft a call for some clarification on this and it turns out that while you can play "recommended films" through a special Kinect dashboard, anything in your normal queue is a no go.

More rumors concerning the upcoming Wii 2 involves a leaked early spec sheet, the project being named "Project Cafe", and the controller being compared to an iPad with buttons.
Rumored feedback from developers and insider sources who heard or seen the controller have them ranging from being completely amazed to believing it could end up as one of the best things ever created for video games. Also rumored was as weird and advanced the controller sounds, Nintendo will keep the costs low to fit their current affordability model.
The controller itself is said to include a 6" single touch screen, d-pad, "L and R," two triggers, and "others." The functionality of the Wii's sensor bar has now been integrated into the controller, which would mean that you'd just use your controller as a sensor bar for Wiimote gameplay. It would a sport a front facing camera.
Also, because it's Nintendo we're talking about here, the cost of this controller is said to be "modest" and we shouldn't expect iPad levels of power or performance here. They call it an "iPad with buttons" for lack of a better term. 01net's source also elaborated on the hardware specs of the console itself.
Also rumored was the 3DS could actually be a substitute controller for the new system in a similar way of how Wii games allow different controllers to be used.

It's stands to reason that a Wii with PS3 levels of power and a multifunctional controller could be used for so much more than the Wii already is, and would sell quite well as it would allow for more hardcore gamer type games while still catering to that massive casual market they've cornered.

One of Rockstar's previous cancelled projects involved making a spiritual sequel to The Warriors game but this time set in the UK during the 1960s Mods vs Rockers gang warfare era.
The idea was even though they only had the license for the first Warriors game, Rockstar was considering making this into a new series which would have kept the idea of the Warriors film but involve more gangs and locations similar to how their GTA series was set up.
The biggest reason why Rockstar shelved those plans involved the switch from the PS2 era to the Xbox 360 era for consoles which would have required most of the current project and engine to be scrapped in favor of an all new engine and HD assets.
Around the same time, Rockstar too busy creating the Euphoria engine and didn't have the time nor manpower to create another engine just for the Warriors sequel.

Capcom's European branch hints that Capcom's future plans might include something similar to what Activision does but not as badly in the long run.
The plan is for Resident Evil and Street Fighter to form the basis of their yearly portfolio with new games and IPs sprinkled in. The biggest differences between this plan and Activision's is Capcom will not suddenly make every year have a SF and a RE game.
According to CVG, he said “The strategy going forward is for [Resident Evil and Street Fighter] to form the basis of the portfolio. We’re not saying it’s going to be all Street Fighter and Resident Evil forever. There will be new projects, but they will be shot through with Capcom’s quality NDA and subjected to a very rigorous green light process… there will be at least one more original title from us that will come out next year.”

Except it's not going to be PS3-level technology (and the specs that are rumoured are heavily dated), and part of the appeal to the casual market was the simplicity of the Wiimote in the first place.
The tardcore probably won't want it when compared to whatever Microsoft and Sony have to offer in a couple years, and they risk alienating the soccer moms who bought the shit out of the Wii.
That being said, they probably won't, but it's a little absurd to assume the best of both worlds.
That being said, the rumour's believability mostly hinges on whether you buy them manufacturing an affordable 6" HD touchscreen with all the bells and whistles.
And while I'm not going to say it's impossible, remember "insiders" leaked bullshit specs on the Revolution/Wii, and Nintendo totally blew smoke up our asses back when they were hyping "project Dolphin's" power. Actually, they kinda lied about Wii and N64's power, too.

Touch screens themselves aren't all that expensive. In fact, they're not expensive at all. It's devices that have touch screens that cost a lot. That's not a factor at all.
Doesn't seem all that difficult to me to take a Wiimote and a scaled down DS (without the top screen) and fuse them into a single controller that can be used several ways. Still simple (how hard is it to use a touch screen on what would presumably just be a new Wiimote?), with new funtionality. Trivia game buzzers, radar for FPS games, extra options for super in depth RPGs, virtual pets, individual minigames the possibilities are endless.
I didn't say they'd take back the hardcore market, just that they could allow for more games of that ilk.
And yeah, it's all speculation at this point, but I'm just saying that if that's the case, this is what they could potentially do. A man can dream, can't he? :'(

And even the most stripped down of those devices with a high def touch screen tends to cost, so that's kind of a moot point. Though you just reached Fignuts level bullshit, but still.
And if we're talking inclusive functionality, one of the reasons 1:1 controls weren't possible with the Wiimote is the tech was too expensive. As it is, it still boosts the user price up 20 bucks, so unless they want to abandon functionality or take a hit on hardware, taking Wiimote functionality on top of an HD touch screen will have cost issues. Yeah, WMP is cheaper now, but it's still relatively expensive, and last I knew profit margins were slim.
So basically, Nintendo's going to take a hit for your fanboy ass? Nah. But if you want to be mad ridiculous, go for it.

Speculations right now are that once the Portal 2 ARG is complete, we'll be getting news/hints/who knows about HL2:E3.
---LOG FROM [ REDACTED ], BY J.H. TO C.J.---
1. We designed the entire thing to be very, very durable. It was easy to get the materials since everyone's been thinking
it's a simple icebreaker ship. Ha.
2. We have made sure to strip it of anything not necessary, so that we have plenty of space for it. It doesn't have any
backup supplies in the event the crew runs out of food, though. And there isn't much food onboard in the first place.
3. In the event you need to send it off all of a sudden, use the OR box with code 'hb1'.
That's all, C.J. Not much else I can tell you other than this won't leave a blight on our record. Mesa is going to be sore
when they see what we've done.
So I'm guessing that by waiting this long for ep3 that they can and probably will make it a full $60 release.

I get the feeling they can justify charging $200+ for the damn thing because it will be the next Game Boy Portable on its own, and hey..if you go buy our new $300 console you'll be able to use it to control games on that too. And if you dont go run out and buy that controller than it will come with a standard controller minus the screen. That way, they can up the console specs since they wont have to package the "best" controller in.
Fucking fuck, man. You know they already have the next "Game Boy Portable", right? It's called the 3DS. It came out like 2 seconds ago. It'll probably have a connectivity feature with the next Nintendo console like the DS has with the Wii (though as far as I know it's only been used in like 3 games).
No one's going to pay $200 for a controller that isn't shaped like a guitar. Even then no one gives a shit about music games anymore, so there you have it.

If they're going to make the damn thing so expensive they might as well make it the next game boy while they're at it. People fucking pay $300 for phones to sit around and play angry birds on..
Plus the 3DS is a joke and its being outsold by the PSP in Japan. I dont think the 3DS is anything more than another .5 revision of the DS like the XL and Lite were. A damn 6 inch touchscreen system with controller capabilities for their new console would be awesome.

Arc System Works confirms BlazBlue Continuum Shift 2 will be coming to the 3DS and PSP on May 31 with a special bonus for those who have the first game on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
The game was originally set to arrive May 24 but the studio realized it would be much wiser to push the release date as that is the same date as the new Dead or Alive game for the 3DS.
For PS3 and Xbox 360 owners of the first game, Arc has promised the game will be sort of given away as free DLC for the first game but with some changes and some stuff being separated as paid DLC.
First off, we have the Continuum Shift II update that will be free of charge. This update will re-balance the entire roster to that of the arcade/handheld versions of Continuum Shift II, new challenge modes, new tutorials and it will fix some minor glitches and bugs.
There will also be another update but this one will come with a cost. This update comes in the form of a new character by the name of Platinum The Trinity (she's pictured above). This update will cost $7.99 or 560 MS points (I guess they're trying to make back some of the free CS II upgrade). This update will also include new achievements/Trophies for the character, as well as extend the story mode to include her plot line.
As of now the DLC update is expected to come around the same time as the 3DS and PSP game but it could be pushed back in order to let the handhelds generate some sales.

Update on the rumored Nintendo controller:
A source inside of Ubisoft is saying the current beta HD screen on the controller can show off 3D glasses-free stuff. Another source says the controller itself is much more accurate and stronger than the WiiMote Plus and PS Move. The screen does allow streaming from console to controller and could mimic how the Nintendo DS separates stuff with two screens.
EA, Activision, Ubisoft and other big studios have had the development kits as early as late 2010.

Consider this as a bonus piece of news that has a lot of importance on the next Xbox and Playstation system being as expensive or even more expensive than when the Xbox 360 and PS3 launched.
DICE and Crytek want both Microsoft and Sony to add a lot more PC power and features to the next consoles with Crytek wanting something around 8GB as the minimum. Epic Games wants somewhere around 2-4 GB for their new engine.
Ubisoft and THQ also want new consoles and potentially higher prices for games.
Nah, wtf do I care. I rarely buy games.

Droford... fucking hell. The iphone is a fucking miniature computer. It's $600 because it can do a lot of shit. Yeah, it plays Angry Birds, but it's also got 132576324578623578 apps that do everything from word processing to GPS to turning your living room lights off from 1000 miles away. Touchscreens cost next to nothing. It's not a factor. If you were arguing about the extra tech inside that they'd need, you might have a point. All the stuff mentioned in the quote below my little spiel here makes me think we're looking at $40 to $50 controllers. And that's fair. PS3 and 360 controllers cost that and they don't have screens at all.
Update on the rumored Nintendo controller:

They can and that's what got THQ into so much trouble. Charging $60 (fucking $70 here in Canada) for a game that's not even good, let alone as good as titles like Halo: Reach, Red Dead Redemption or any other AAA title is ludicrous. Well, that and spending entirely too much money making Homefront as a Hail Mary effort and then botching it doesn't help either.

New games modes revealed for the upcoming Legend of Zelda 3DS game with Boss Challenge mode and a hint system mode being the recently revealed modes.
Boss Challenge mode is a series of boss fights done in a row similar to the Castlevania DS series but in this case the mode unlocks after a certain part of the game is finished instead of completely the whole game.
The hint system is expected to be something similar to Super Mario Galaxy 2 that gives hints on controls and for certain areas of the game. The hints are also in video form just like in Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Activision explains they are well aware of the potential of Call of Duty series falling into the same decline and trap as the Guitar Hero series. At the same time, the studio has said they learned a lot from their mistakes with the GH series and spin-offs.
Activision feels the major difference involves the slower rise and growing fanbase in shooters compared to the sudden rush in populaity with the music genre with an unstable fanbase. They also realized unlike with Guitar Hero, CoD doesn't require $100+ instruments to be re-bought each game or need specific spin-offs to cater to the wide range of music fans.
"If you really step back and dispassionately look at any measurement-sales, player engagement, hours of online play, performance of DLC-you can absolutely conclude that the potential for this franchise has never been greater," he said. "In order to achieve this potential, we need to focus: on making games that constantly raise the quality bar; on staying ahead of the innovation curve; on surrounding the brand with a suite of services and an online community that makes our fans never want to leave. Entertainment franchises with staying power are rare. But Call of Duty shows all of the signs of being able to be one of them. It's up to us."
This year Battlefield 3 will be the strongest challenger to the CoD series since 2008/2009 when Halo 3 was fighting off Call of Duty for #1 shooter.

What started as a sporadic outage last night has turned into a full-blown crash. Sony has confirmed PlayStation Network is down across the U.S. and Europe, and the company is currently investigating if the outage is being caused by an outside party.
Posting on the U.S. PlayStation Blog (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/04/21/latest-update-on-psn-outage/) last night, Communications Director Patrick Seybold wrote that Sony was aware "certain functions" of PSN were down. Those certain functions are still down, and now the rest of the PlayStation 3's online network is as well.

"As you are no doubt aware, the current emergency outage is continuing this afternoon and all Sony Online Network services remain unavailable," Sony Computer Entertainment Europe PS blog manager James Gallagher posted today. "Our support teams are investigating the cause of the problem, including the possibility of targeted behavior by an outside party. If the reported Network problems are indeed caused by such acts, we would like to once again thank our customers who have borne the brunt of the attack through interrupted service."
Hacker activist group Anonymous appeared to pull back from its war on Sony after a protest it organized at Sony Stores around the world over the weekend fizzled. However, the group previously promised its biggest attack yet was still to come, and many immediately linked today's outage to Anon. However, writing on the Operation Sony Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=136813236391154), Anonymous made it clear it is not behind the attack:
"ATTENTION: For everyone coming here complaining about the PSN or inquiring about it,
We Do Not Know What Happened
This is not the work of Anonymous."
Sony said its engineers are continuing to work to resolve the problems and updates will be provided throughout the day on PlayStation.com, the PlayStation blog, and the PlayStation twitter feed (http://twitter.com/#%21/Playstation). Most recently, Seybold posted on the PlayStation blog at 12:30 p.m. EST that it "may be a full day or two before we're able to get the service completely back up and running."

A survey sent to Kotaku and other companies/websites hints at what the Star Wars Kinect game might include after being revealed last year at E3. Two hidden modes not mentioned at E3 but could be in the final game appear to be a Pod Racing mode and a mode where you control a monster.
But there may be more to Kinect Star Wars than just lightsaber fights, according to details from a recent survey on the game forwarded to Kotaku. That survey—which was accompanied with storyboards for a planned commercial—touched on unannounced gameplay aspects, including a Pod Racing sequence that can be controlled by steering an imaginary wheel with one's hands.
More amusing than miming control of a Pod Racer is a game that appears to let players control a Rancor monster, stomping things beneath their feet while performing the same motion in front of a Kinect camera.
It also appears there will be a fighting mode locally involving Jedi vs Jedi matches although no info if the mode will be available online or if the other modes have online play as well.

The only thing two things I'm concerned about with Kinect is that it could end up never getting the "hardcore" games it would be cool to use it for and the issue of controlling your character.
Here's a crazy idea. What if they had a controller nub ring? You put it on your middle finger of whichever hand you prefer and then use your thumb to slide the nub (think, the 3DS control nub) around.
It solves the control issue, you can still do punching motions etc. Best of both worlds.

Shigeru Miyamoto has no desire to reveal anything about the upcoming next Nintendo console after being barraged with interviews once leaks of the new console were revealed.
His current goal is to finish the current work on this year's Wii games and 3DS games. As of now his top priority is to finish Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword for the Wii and the new Mario game for the 3DS. Any hidden projects would be revealed at E3 like last year with Kirby's Epic Yarn.
He did however tell people to remain patient since information will be coming soon.
"Don't ask!" the Mario creator told Edge. "Even when the Wii launched we were developing new hardware, work on 3DS had already started. It's a matter of when we announce it."
...
So when pressed on whether the new console will be shown at the E3 gaming expo in June, Miyamoto replied, "Please wait. Be patient until we decide."

Online survery from EA hints at a possible subscription plan for EA online games, demos, and other goodies similar in style to other subscription based services.
EA's plan is to mimic Xbox Live Gold and Steam in service by giving away early access to demos for EA paid members, early downloading of games similar to Steam's pre-loading, and discounts for being paid members like PS+ does.
It also appears their progressive career saves in EA Sports games could become a paid feature instead of being a free incentive for people to keep buying EA sports games.
EA Survey
"This subscription gives members access to exclusive benefits for Madden NFL, FIFA, NHL, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, SSX: Deadly Descents, and NCAA Football. While you're a member, this new subscription service will enhance your gaming experience by providing you with:
• Discounts on all downloadable content for participating EA Sports console-based titles.
• Full downloadable versions of aprticipating titles before they come out in stores.
• Exclusive membership recognition badge that appear both in-game and on your web profile.
• Ability to transfer paid content from your current participating titles to future title versions.
• Free and exclusive opportunities to extend your EA Sports experience to PC and Web
• Free and exclusive EA Sports downloadable content for participating console-based titles.
• Your subscription will be available for purchase from participating retailers, through the EA website, or on your console.
As of now, EA has tested this idea with their Tiger Woods PGA game by making the DLC add up to almost the cost of the game while being packed with extras to almost make its own full version.
Other companies such as Activision have in previous years hinted at making their own separate subscription service for their games but as of now it has only been done on a few MMO games that require their own servers.

Portal 2 might be the last game Valve does that shows importance to single player after recent news of the studio considering switching the focus of their game development from solo to co-op and multiplayer focused games.
"Portal 2 will probably be Valve's last game with an isolated single-player experience," Keighley wrote in ‘Final Hours’, "What this all means is something Newell is still trying to figure out." If this statement is to be taken at face value that means that Valve wants all of their games to support connected, multi-player gaming at all levels. This statement is according to Stephen Totilo over at Kotaku, who says he heard it from Geoff Keighley, who is working on a behind-the-scenes piece about Portal 2. Keighley says he heard it directly from Gabe Newell, Valve CEO himself and project manager Erik Johnson.
This wouldn't be a new experience for Valve since their last few games have relied on a co-op or multiplayer experience for gameplay such as the Left 4 Dead series and Team Fortress 2.
Valve would also be joining other developers who have switched their previously solo-focused series into multiplayer series as is the case with Bioshock, Uncharted, Dead Space, and Resident Evil.
As well as catering to the current preference of the gaming industry and gamers who want multiplayer or co-op in every game even if it isn't needed (ex. Dead Space 2).
This decision isn't expected to impact Half-Life 2 Episode 3 due to the series being a solo-campaign series but Valve could pull a Capcom and make Alyx Vance a playable character and make the game heavy in co-op gameplay similar to Resident Evil 5 with Sheva.

Or do they mean that all future games will allow you to play the campaign mode multiplayer if you wish. (Like Fable III or Perfect Dark or Halo, or Gears), cause that's alright as long as I'm not saddled with a shitty AI controlled partner if I'm playing alone (if I'm playing alone I don't want a partner forced on me just for the sake of a multiplayer option)
But if we are talking about a future where all games require 2+ people, then that's just stupid

I think they're talking about main campaigns being multiplayer optional. Like in RE5 where you had a dumb bint of a sidekick in single-player mode (except Valve will probably get it right).
Think Left 4 Dead, except with more story and coherence to the main campaign.

I don't want every game to be shackled with some AI partner when I'm not playing co-op (which is almost always because I don't like playing co-op lol). If they do this it needs to be done mostly Fable III/Perfect Dark Style/Halo (where you can play co-op but your partner is some aforementioned side kick or sister :p), obvious exceptions would be games with well crafted sidekicks/partners but they shouldn't pigeonhole themselves into just making games with well crafted sidekicks.
In other words it would suck if all future Valve games have a sidekick character that is always there whether you are playing alone or not.

Most likely it means something similar to Portal 2's co-op being the main preference over Portal's solo or like a Resident Evil 5/Left 4 Dead where the 2nd player is either AI controlled or human controlled. No more games like Half-Life 1 and 2 where it is only a single player game.
Portal 2 was designed with the preference on single player and then Valve added co-op ability without having to sacrifice the single player unlike the Halo series or other shooters where multiplayer was the preference during development (Halo 3 was about 5-10 people working on solo and 300+ working on multiplayer).

As I'm sure you know, the PlayStation Network has been down for nearly a week, and Sony today revealed the reason for the outage. There has been a security breach, and user information has been obtained by an unauthorized person.
Below please find our answers to questions you may have about what this means to you, the end user:
Whose information has been stolen?
Sony has not revealed how many of their estimated 70 million accounts have been compromised, so it's impossible to say. Shutting down the entire PlayStation Network suggests the security breach is large as opposed to small. Also, the company is sending out email to every account holder about the situation.
What information has been stolen?
According to Sony, your name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID. Additionally, Sony advises that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained.
Wait, credit card information was stolen from the PSN as well?
Maybe. While Sony doesn't rule out the possibility that your credit card data (minus your 3-digit security code) has been stolen, they say that "there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken." Judging from how other companies have handled security breaches in the past, if your credit card information was stolen, I would expect Sony to send an email to inform you.
How can I tell if my information has been stolen?
There is no way of knowing for sure if you're among the people whose information has been compromised at this time, so the best thing to do is assume your information has been obtained by this "unauthorized person." Sony is sending an email to all registered account holders.
When did the intrusion take place?
Between April 17 and April 19, 2011
Can I change my PSN password now?
No. The PlayStation Network is offline. When it resumes operation, Sony recommends you change your password.
When will the PlayStation Network go back online?
Within seven days. According to Sony, "We have a clear path to have PlayStation Network and Qriocity systems back online, and expect to restore some services within a week."
What should I do now?
We've prepared a guide for what to do if you're a member of the PlayStation Network.
Will the PSN network have better security in the future?
I don't have a crystal ball, so I can't say for sure, but my best guess is "Yes."
Why did it take almost a week for Sony to inform the public of this leak?
Sony hasn't commented on this aspect of the security breach, so you're guess is as good as mine, but if you're asking, you're in good company. Senator Richard Blumenthal issued a statment today aimed at Sony saying he is “troubled by the failure” of Sony to “immediately notify affected customers of the breach and to extend adequate financial data security protections.”

Nintendo is giving away a free downloadable game for 3DS owners in the upcoming May firmware update for the handheld.
The goal by Nintendo is to get more users online than previous efforts with the DS and later the Wii by giving away more free incentives as part of the plan.
The game will be ExciteBike from the NES but with an added bonus of being redone to show off the 3D effects for NES games and potentially for Virtual Console/Virtual Boy games.
The Nintendo Financial Results briefing notes say that a 3D Classics version of ExciteBike will come as a free download in a May 3DS firmware update. Nice! I love that game, I love free things, and I love the idea of my 3DS doing more. Nintendo says that this freebie is part of their effort to give users promotional activites to urge them to go online with the 3DS.

Playstation S1 & S2 Revealed:
Meet two new pieces of hardware by Sony; the S1 and S2. These tablets will play PS1 games as well as mobile style games (apps) presumably exclusive to the portable console. It's odd that Sony is entering this market, as their previous actions made me think they had no interest or respect for it, but here we are. They do look sexy, but tablets aren't my flavor.

The first game sucked. NetherRealm will not wanna try their hand at it after a strong return to form with Mortal Kombat. TNA will have to find another publisher.
You asked for thoughts and there ya go. I don't know what else to say.

What have Netherealm got to do with it? Southpeak picked up the license when Midway shut.

Unless they've got the team behind Big Bang Mini on it, I doubt Southpeak will be capable of producing a TNA game that won't suck as much as everyone thinks it probably will.

They already developed and released the PSP version of TNA iMPACT in June last year.
To their credit, it was exactly the same as the original just with the PSP's dodgy loading times.

I had a look through their catalog of games and Big Bang Mini is the only one I'd actually call a good game. Everything else is either crap or meh at best.

Microsoft sent out mass warnings of a potential mass Phishing attack using CoD Modern Warfare 2 as the starting point.
Microsoft has put all of its web services and Xbox servers on alert with Matchmaking being the only service as of now given the"Service Alert" tag. Microsoft can only confirm the scheme is being done with Modern Warfare 2 but will not confirm if other games are being affected by the potential attack.
"Users may experience difficulties with the following services:
Users may receive potential phishing attempts via title specific messaging while playing Modern Warfare 2.
We are aware of the problem and are working to resolve the issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience"
This news comes within the day of another report of Microsoft preparing a massive banning or counter-attack by unbanning all Xbox 360 consoles. Microsoft is trying to both find out where the source of the Phishing attack is coming from and to prevent any chance of Xbox Live coming under attack if the PSN hacking spreads to other places.
JTagged consoles are exempted from the unbanning as they are still given "auto-bans" when connected to Xbox Live.

More bad news for Sony concerning its PSN hacking attack and downtime as a few data-security firms have put as the early estimates of the attack, Sony's responses, and PSN downtime to a worst-case scenario of $23-$24 billion dollars once everything is done. The real value is expected to be much lower but could still reach a couple of billion of dollars lost.
Based on 2010 averages for data theft attacks, each PSN account has been valued as costing Sony $318. Sony also claims about 70 million accounts on PSN but only 1/3 to 50 million could be considered unique accounts.

Info and a trailer for the upcoming Need for Speed game was leaked today with EA probably playing a role in the leak. Going along with some details is the potential box art and a trailer meant to debut at E3.
The game will be called Need for Speed: The Run and gameplay-wise appears to be a return to a story-based campaign with less emphasis on sandbox style and more traditional course racing. Also leaked are the usual modes Need for Speed is known for such as single races and cop chase modes.
Based on the first trailer for the game, it appears to be a story-focused, cross-country driving affair with players fleeing from the law—often the best part of Need For Speed video games. It appears that players will travel from San Francisco to New York, driving through Las Vegas and Denver along the way. This may be the next NFS title from EA's Black Box studio, as Criterion Games delivered last year's Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit and Slightly Mad Studios just released Shift 2: Unleashed.
The game is rumored for a November 18 release date but EA hasn't confirmed the dates nor what systems the game will be on.

Strange, the story-based NfS games were often received poorly - Hot Pursuit and Shift 2 were well received.
No idea what's going on with the franchise direction at EA.
