For those that had problems logging on to Steam earlier today, it wasn't due to a hacking attack or anything related to recent threats by a hacker group.

Valve had a nasty glitch occur that lead to people being able to randomly access accounts of others with some reports saying account info was locked out and others saying the opposite.

Valve claims the issues have been fixed but probably the best to change passwords and/or account details to be safe.

Microsoft rumored to be releasing a new model of the Xbox One next year. The new model is rumored to be more similar to Apple Tv in terms of functionality than just as a Slim version of the console.

Also rumored to be arriving mid to late 2016 and would be cheaper than the current standard Xbox One model.

According to writer Brad Sams at Petri, who claims to have spoken to internal sources at Microsoft, there's a Lightweight Xbox One coming in 2016, much more in line with the Apple TV in terms of design and power.

"I have heard from internal sources that the company is considering plans for a lightweight Xbox One that may only be for Windows store games and would compete with the Apple TV, but it's not clear if these plans have been scrapped."

According to reports, Activision recently purchased eSports organization MLG (Major League Gaming) for around $46 million. MLG's investors are pissed though because they weren't told of a sale being made and the amount being lower than they'd expect because of debt issues.

With so many big-time publishers attempting to enter the market, Activision just up and did what everyone probably wanted to do all along -- it potentially bought one of the biggest players in the world. It has made the moves to scoop up MLG for a reported sum of $46 million, and acquired "substantially all" of its assets.

The deal (which hasn't been filed or executed yet) took place on December 21, at which point MLG's Board of Directors approved the sale, and CEO Sundance DiGiovanni has been replaced by former CFO Greg Chisholm. Stockholders are apparently not pleased according to the eSports Observer, with one individual stating that he "got fucked" -- the sale was also reportedly approved without a stockholder's meeting, and the "majority" of the sum may simply be going towards paying off debts.

Was MLG in good shape at all? I hadn't heard about any tournaments/stuff in years, where I heard stuff about EVO/The International/Other random stuff all the time? I only knew it as something that teenagers pretended to be in.

The rumours about the Xbox TV thing are funny. There are so many stories going round that MS want to get rid of the One, possibly folding it into Windows 10 machines. I can't see it happening, they're not going to run out of money, but then it seems like MS wanted the One to be all about TV more than anything, and if they can make a Minecraft machine then why not? They killed the OG Xbox but that was to get the 360 out, I don't see what tanking the One would get them.

I do remember reading that for all its success MS' Xbox division is seen as some kind of black sheep for some reason. Really bizarre.Xbox loses them money, but that never stopped Microsoft before. Although the Xbox One slipped up and has lost ground, it's nothing like the failure of the Surface, Windows Phone, Bing, Windows 8 and possibly 10, Minecraft that will never, ever recoup what they spent on it just so they could dodge tax, whatever else you care to mention. It's the strongest brand that MS still has.

I think the direction with the One was that they wanted a Trojan horse in every living room so that people would be using it as a DVR with their Kinect and to have control of the household and go from there. Now that they've had to scale it back to be just another game console, the higher ups feel like they accomplished nothing. They put a lot into stuff like the NFL deals, the DVR stuff, and so they could try to make a small Xbox to go up against Apple TV - but it's too late, there's already a hundred other boxes out there, and no-one will want a gimped Xbox 0.5

In a word, Microsoft.

Gonna be honest. Super hyped for Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 4. It's your typical shounen anime game, but they are mindless fun. The big thing though are the visuals. The previous games were drop dead gorgeous, and those were on 360/PS3. This one is on the new systems and I jizz in my pants a little bit every time I think about how amazing it's gonna look.

Kinda sucks that story mode only covers tne last part of the story, and you need all 4 games to get tne whole naruto saga, but whatevs. At least tney have most of the characters including pre time skip stuff in vs. Maybe the next game will be a giant all encompassing story that has everything from chapter 1-700, and the biggest roster ever.

Nah, Watch_Dogs was a joke. Poor gameplay, a map rammed full of boring content and collectables like any newer Assasins Creed, some of the more unlikeable characters in gaming history all wrapped up in the worst plot imaginable.

Going to assume the same but on a much larger scale since it has to attack a lot of servers at once to cause anything significant to happen. Also going to assume how apps connect or use Live might be the same way hackers are able to attack the service since both are coming from the outside.

Since the Xbox One is a lot more online-oriented than the Xbox 360, makes sense that a DDoS attack would hurt it a lot more. Especially if those same attacks can go as far as making it not possible to launch games without going completely offline.

Look at what is going on in the PC/Phones (specifically mentions 2 years for phones) ecosystem in terms of visuals and screen technology improving over time as an idea of an iterative console. Making a cheaper and smaller console overtime is "important" but wants to make sure taking your games with you and games improving is important.

Makes a point that backwards/forwards compatibility is incredibly important. Phil says Microsoft wants that to be a driving force for the platform.

Basically, your current XBox One will run games throughout the generation, but the re-design might run them at a higher detail. He's talked a lot about backwards/forwards compatibility so I don't see a point where they fuck over the people that actually supported them since the console has pretty much bombed so far everywhere other than the US and UK.

Can't see it ever being a case of you picking settings either. Betting the game will pick the settings based on the console it's booted on.

Wait - what's wrong with this idea? Is it saying we're gonna have to get new SKUs often or are they saying there will be more variations that play the same games as varying fidelity?

If it's the latter then I don't see an issue unless the distinction will be tantamount to CoD Blops III current vs last gen versions. If we're talking some difference in resolution and such than that's already a choice I made getting an Xbone over a PS4 or PC.

I just wanna get a sense of what's to fear because my only worry is not being able to play what I want with my buds.

So the Beastcast had a good idea about this XBox One revision thing. The one they bring out now could be a VR ready one that works with Occulus because they don't have a solution for it and they want to be there near the start of the consumer model. Seems like a good idea.

I think the stuff about the Xbox being upgradable is overblown. Maybe a future Xbox platform, but not the One. You can't change the processor without changing the motherboard. The weaknesses with the One are the RAM being DDR3, and the lack of ESRAM, and the GPU.

Even if you had a discrete graphics card in a new Xbox, in a few years the bandwidth of the motherboard, CPU, etc, would be outclassed and you would always have a bottleneck. Shills at Forbes proclaim this will make the Xbox immortal. Maybe in the way an iPhone is immortal? Maybe if you believe in reincarnation.

Its just an idea that sounds cool but doesn't mean anything. Even a PC cannonly be upgraded so far, and its design to be modular. They're already making a loss on cheap console hardware.

It's not about upgrading your existing box, it's about a whole new hardware box, so it will be an XBox One.Two or something. Runs all the XB1 games as normal, possibly at a higher setting depending on what the developers do. They've compared it to the phone/iPad model where there will be new hardware every 2 years but if you don't want to upgrade, that's fine. Games will still run on your old box.
