Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. 7/10
I thought this was the worst one out of the three to be honest. Loved the entire series, but this one didn't have as good as a plot. And I thought Tina Turner as the heel was not that good. Road Warrior was my favorite. By the way, WCW took a lot of shit from this movie. It's kind of ridiculous.
Saw IV: 8.5/10
Note to self for future Saw movie watches. Watch the last one like a week or so prior to watching the new one. I watched Saw III like 7 months ago and totally forgot what happened. I love these Saw movies though. I think there the most clever written horror series of all-time. How they tie in the previous movies and tie in all the characters is amazing. I liked Saw IV almost as much as the first one. It tied together a lot of backstory and the ending was great. I liked how III and IV virtually happened at the same time at the end. Which brings me to
Saw V: 6/10. So I took my advice and rented Saw V last night. I kind of had mixed feelings about this one. I pretty much saw the whole "game" coming for the five people that were trapped. I loved Hoffman's reverse pychology at the end to finish off things. I liked how they showed the backstory of how Jigsaw and Hoffman met and how Jigsaw kept saying "learn the human mind" and how to think ahead and everything, which Hoffman did at the end. But I feel this movie could of been done in Saw IV as it really just seemed like total filler.

Really Loose Cannon? I'm not the only one who appreciates the Saw series?
Not only that, but I think you rated them a bit too high, especially Saw V. Saw V was just one big flashback and nothing, and I mean NOTHING, happened in present time except Corbitt being found and the ending. Other than that, it was a huge flashback. But the Saw series is one big movie, and Saw V you probably have to watch with Saw IV, or Saw VI when it comes out. Saw II and Saw III go together perfectly, so yeah....I just think Saw V was pretty horrible, the five people story was just an excuse to put traps in the film...
Daddy Day Care - 2/10. I didn't like this one.....

Halloween 2 (the new Rob Zombie one) 3/10
Don't ask me why I saw this. My friend, his brother and me always go see the Halloween, Freddy and Jason movies regardless of how bad they look. It's just kind of something we do. Even when they're awful its still a good time.
This movie was so awful though. It was an even bigger mess than Zombie's first one, which was an abortion in it's own right. I can't believe this guy is a director.
Just nothing interesting, suspenseful, or entertaining about it. Pointless violence and mayhem with no real characters or respectable plot. It's as though the movies are just incidental. They sort of just happen as a result of him making torture porn, tasteless violence, 70s rock references, and putting his wife on screen for no real reason any chance he gets.
All 3 points are awarded because it has a Wierd Al Yankovic cameo.

The Code/Thick as Thieves 3/10
Whoever thought of putting Antonio Banderas and Morgan Freeman together in a heist movie should be forced to sit through this movie for a week straight with their eyes wired open. I might have been able to be more generous with the rating if they had chosen ANYONE besides Banderas for his role because he turns in one of the worst performances Ive seen in a long time (and he gets to romp around with Radha Mitchell to make me even angrier.) Freeman was ok, though you could tell he wasn't investing too much of himself in this one either, but at least it wasn't on the level of dear Antonio. The movie was extremely predictable with only one oddball swerve that I didnt see coming but it wasn't even worth worrying about, and a story thats pretty much like every other heist movie you've seen before minus any real action or even tension.

Halloween II (2009) - 5/10
There was some good but more not good. The Michael Myers scenes were good. The psychological scenes were not good. I didn't really feel any strong connection to the lead character. Usually you want to see her escape and/or kill the bad guy, but I didn't in this case. I think it was partly because she was annoying and partly because she found out she was Michael Myers' sister she decided to go get drunk at a huge house party on Halloween instead of having a mental collapse since that seemed to be the direction she was heading (but that wouldn't have been as exciting I guess).

I really had a hard time coming up with a number for this one. Like I was saying in the "Better Movie" thread, there's really nothing wrong with the movie. It's just not my kind of movie. It's very slow and drawn out and I found myself bored a few times. The directing, acting and story were all great, but the pace killed it for me. Wow, were they kidding here? It's like they wrote an action movie and didn't have any characters so they just said "let's take some X-men characters and throw them in." Each X-men movie has gotten worse and worse since the first one and this one takes the cake. They just totaly raped X-men all together. I think they just threw Gambit in this movie to shut up all the people who have been wanting him forever. Deadpool was a joke. Some movies I caught at the Toronto Film Festival.
Baaria - Ugh horrible movie, didn't really want to see this, but my girlfriend and I always try to see one movie together at the festival and this was the best looking movie we could work around our schedules. Plus I thought Giuseppe Tornatore was a pretty competent director, despite finding Cinema Paradiso kinda overrated. Don't feel like talking about it. 3/10
Life During Wartime - New Todd Solondz movie, kind of a quasi sequel to Happiness although every character has been recast. Found it kinda underwhelming seeing as most critics seem to have gotten back on the Solondz bandwagon. However, there are a some really good scenes and I love Solondz dark comedy and sympathy for outsiders, I especially loved Trish's zionist love prospect and his neurotic son. A lot of it felt like Solondz doing the same shit though, housewives don't understand the complexity of terrorism, awkward conversations between adults and children yada, yada, yada. Not nearly as funny, poignant, or as audacious as Happiness. 7/10
My Son, My Son What Have Ye Done - A David Lynch, Werner Herzog collaboration is any film buffs dream come true, too bad they couldn't have come to together to make a better film. It's about a mentally unstable man who kills his mother with a sword, then locks himself in his house with hostages. Herzog did a Q&A session afterwards, so that was kinda cool. 6/10

Not really judging this as a movie per se. I watch stuff like this and the Saw films just to see how they put the deaths/traps together and see what twist they come up with. It's blatant rinse-and-repeat film making and thus it's hard/pointless judging it as you would a normal release.

Horror movie styled after 70's/80's horror flicks set in the early 80's. Slow build to a pretty crazy ending though it wasn't exactly the ending I was looking for. It was written/directed by Ti West whose only previous claim to fame was doing a Cabin Fever sequel that hasn't been released yet.
This was on HDNet Movies and was one of their "On HDnet before it hits theatres" deals. I wouldn't spend 10 bucks to see it (and chances are your theatre probably wont be showing it anyway) but look for it on DVD when it comes out sometime soon.

Cirque du Freak: Vampires Assistant - B+
I instantly was interested in this movie after seeing the previews. I knew nothing of a book series attached to this story, just that John C. Reilly playing a vampire would be awesome. I was right. While this is not "riveting" in any way, I really liked this film.
Here we have 2 high school boys who visit the Cirque Du Freak show while it was touring their town. After a mishap, one boy (Massoglia) has to become the head vampires assistant in order to save the life of his friend. From there, the young boy must become a half-vampire & carry out the wishes of his new master (Reilly).
It is very interesting and original in the idea that we get a detailed look at the inner workings of a true side show attraction. We see monkey girls, bearded ladies, giant dancing spiders, giant brained men & even a lady who can regenerate body parts. The mood is very dark yet the plot opens up just enough to entertain your senses. At times I was gripping my chair, at other times I was lost in the concept and characters & other times I would lend out a laugh. While the tone is a bit dark, this movie is great for vampire movie fans roughly aged 14-26. The younger crowd might not be interested in the cast while older vamp fans might call this movie campy. To me, it falls right in the middle of each realm.
The book series is readily available online and I plan on reading each of the 12 in the series. While this movie is critically panned & the box office intake has not been wonderful, I hope to see this franchise continue to watch where it goes from here.

I thought this was pretty good. The First hour seemed a little rushed like there was not really much going on with the plot other then things blowing up. But they did slow it down and showed some good flashbacks and built towars the ending. I really liked the last half hour with the two villians eventually becoming Cobra Commander and Destro. I was hoping to see my favorite GI Joe when they were in the snow. The guy with the skis. I forget his name now. But all in all, good first movie

I LOVE YOU, BETH COOPER
This movie brings back so much to my memory. This movie easily fits in the same vein as The Breakfast Club, Pretty In Pink & 16 Candles. We have the underdog with the quirky sidekick trying to win the love and affection of the cool girl in school. Much like John Hughes' films of the 80's, the plot is paper thin but what makes the movies work so well is the character development & the need to see the plucky nobody succeed.
Christopher Columbus directs Hayden Pannetierre & & Paul Rust as the squirmy Denis Cooverman & the insatiable Beth Cooper. At graduation, Rust delivers a rousing speech to his fellow classmates that is definately character defining & the most important part of this film. From there he berates the class bitch, the dumb jock, the dim witted bully among others.
His world changes forever when the love of his life, Beth Cooper, shows up at his house with a few girlfriends for a graduation party. From there we have cheeky car chases, wet towel battles & several prat falls leading to the moment where Beth & Denis get to the heart of the matter....Why does he love a girl he has never even talked to!?
The sub characters in this film are pretty great. I didn't expect much from the female counterparts as the focus was on Beth, but all sub-characters brought necessary humor & counterpoint to the film. I especially dug Denis' best friend played by Jack Carpenter. He was funny in the same vein that Adam Brody was funny on The OC.
All in all this movie was pretty cool. Not amazing, not a real standout, but if your ever feeling nostalgic for a vintage John Hughes flick, this is a modern take on his genius.

First time I've seen this in a while....hilarious and physco at the same time.

Hunger - Really haunting movie about Billy Sands hunger strike. Amazing directing by a guy named Steve Mcqueen, apparently he's a "video artist" so I was expecting the movie to be like some gay music video or something, but he had a unique and interesting vision. Michael Fassbender was incredible as well, the amount of weight he lost was really disturbing... definetly rivals Bale's weight loss in The Machinest 8/10

The Proposal: 7/10
Some funny moments, but it's your standard chick flick type movie
Orphan: 8.5/10
Great fucking twist in this one. very clever. It reminded me of Good Son, especially with the whole tree house thing and the frozen pond. The girl who played the Orphan is a really good actress for being 12 years old
Bro the Orphan has the worst twist of any movie I have ever seen.

Taking of Pelham 123
8.5/10. I had a personal like for it because it took place in NY and I thought it was a good story. It was weird seeing Chris Partlow from the Wire in it and he was a good guy.
The movie with Katherine Hiegal and Gerard Butler: 6/10. My wife wanted to watch this one. It was decent I guess. Some funny parts, especially Gerard's character. He has some great lines about what guys are thinking when they meet girls. It's a great date movie for all you single people out there.
Trick 'R Treat: 9/10: Cool film. It went direct to DVD and you may of seen commercials for it. It's a movie that has 5 stories woven together and it all comes together at the end. If you like horror films, I recomend this one. It reminded me of Tales from the Crypt.
The Strangers - 6.5/10
Triangle - 7.5/10
I found both of these films hard to rate. Probably felt a little short-changed as neither film has a conclusive ending.

LC, you should check out the original Taking of Pelham 123, especially if you liked the remake due to the NY feel. The original does a much better job of making the city itself a character. Plus it has Walter Matthau and Robert Shaw.
2012 - 6/10
Not as bad as I thought it was gonna be. Pretty good popcorn flick
2012
Story's pretty empty but I wasn't surprised. The CGI pieces are absolutely beautiful. By the end I was really hoping for more people to get wiped out.
6.5/10

Pirate Radio
7/10
Good film. Hoffman & the supporting cast (including half of shaun of the deads supporting cast) & Rhys Darby made this film awesome. Possibly the best ensemble of characters so far this year.
