Denzel was NOT being Denzel in that. He was NOT getting your attention immediately with his powerful and commanding acting voice. He was NOT putting on an ACTING clinic, and he was not loud and intense or seemed large and in charge like he usually does.

However, props to him shedding a tear at the end.

Chronicle:

I'll give a solid 7.5-8 out of 10. I know that the "found footage" thing is getting a bit tired at this point and some of the camera angles in this particular movie were a little fucking convenient, but overall... Solid Superhero flick. Much more character development than I thought there would be. Many parallels to Star Wars also, actually (Light side/Dark side. Emotions, blah blah). Acting was good, although the kid that played Andrew was trying a bit too hard to act like a raving lunatic towards the end there which made it feel a bit superficial.

Good movie though. :)

Al Pacino plays Bobby, a young heroin addict who introduces his drug-free girlfriend (Kitty Winn) to New York's "Needle Park." But in this sordid world peopled with addicts who lie, cheat and steal their way to their next fix, will Bobby feel any guilt for corrupting a pure soul?

Bully - 7/10
Bobby (Nick Stahl) takes great joy in bossing around and beating up his best friend, slovenly ex-surfer Marty (Brad Renfro). But when Marty's girlfriend (Rachel Miner) witnesses one too many of these incidents, she vows to kill Bobby, enlisting her friends -- and a hit man -- to help. From controversial director Larry Clark (Kids), this unsettling drama is based on a true crime.

Johnny Suede 6/10
Wannabe rock star Johnny Suede (Brad Pitt) learns there's more to life than a guitar and a big pompadour in this bittersweet drama. House painter Johnny hopes to become a star like his idol, Ricky Nelson. He falls hard for Darlette (Alison Moir), who has record industry connections, but she hits the high road when Johnny's career hits the skids. Crushed, Johnny then meets Yvonne (Catherine Keener), who helps him realize what's important in life.

Fir the Bible tells.me so- a documentary that gets across the fact that you'd. Have to twist Biblical context to think the homosexuality they talk about in the Bible is the same as the loving realationships we see today. For instance sodom and gommorah had passed an antihospitality law where foreigners ( who Jews were called to be especially kind to) weren't allowed in the city. The punishment was usually gang rape. Strange random shit like dead rabbits found in the backyard hung up and mutilated and the weird mafia boss slicing his palm with a knife just to sign the hitman's contract on random people he wants killed.

There are few gory stuff here and there. hammering on the head until it's squashed plus a brief intestinal knife stabbings.

Romain, a gay 31-year-old fashion photographer, finds out he is terminally ill and has only three months to live. He rejects the treatment for his metasized tumor that might offer him a slim (less than 5%) chance of survival.

Romain exhibits both a selfish and a recklessness behavior. He realizes that his good looks give him a certain amount of leeway and he tests the forbearance of the people who care for him. He chases away his lover Sasha and delights in antagonizing his sister. The only person in whom he confides about his illness is his grandmother Laura.

Battle Royale, the Director's Cut:

I was expecting it to be a bit more fucked up, since it was banned in the States for so long. As it stood, it was damned nuts. I was hoping for more exploding collar deaths, but then again, the exploding thing that's attached to you gimmick was done to death in the Condemned, truth be told.

It had some fucked moments: The intro video of the rules was completely insane. The mastermind's performance was insanely over the top. The scene that was used for the one girl's back story was incredibly dark.

It also had some incredible thematic elements. There was a definite anti-war theme. Who do you trust when everyone is trying to survive? Do you fight or do you give up? Do you play along or do you strike back?

I've heard it referred to as the movie/novel Hunger Games ripped off, and to an extent I guess we can thank Hunger Games for the boxed set finally seeing the U.S. But I seriously recommend it. 8/10.

Dead Snow

A Norwegian film based around the idea of medical students who go on Easter vacation to a cabin in the mountains. An old local warns them of a time when the Nazi's ran away from the locals at the end of WWII, with stolen valuables. The group then find a box of gold in the cabin and you can probably piece the rest of the film together from there.

From my take on it, they didn't know what kind of film they were making. The first 45 minutes actually sets up a decent horror film, albeit without establishing any engaging characters. Then in the second half, it shifts to complete slapstick comedy with the characters acting incredibly nonchalantly about the idea of fighting Nazi zombies.

You feel no sympathy or empathy for the characters so aren't willing any of them through the film, nor does the film have any real message within it at the beginning, middle or end. Reminded me a lot of Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland without the quality writing or comedy timing. Good soundtrack though.

I give it a 4.5/10.

9/10. Lauren German (Hostel 2 heroine chick) is having a Milla Jovovich-ish look in this one. :p

This is another seriously fucked up movie.. More psychological horror than just a nuclear armageddon stuff... think of it as what could've been the REAL Hunger Games. Literally. Cos people get stuck in the basement building with few food supplies and they start going insane on each other once the daughter gets kidnapped by bio suit guys that look like Fallout enemies and never heard from again. And I don't care if the ending was stupid, she did what she had to do... There's only 1 suit and the chick can no longer survive with 2 remaining men cos you know they might as well ass-rape and begin abusing her despite they already did deteriorate their sanity towards others in the 1st half.

And we get to see a little glimpse of the apocalyptic world in not just the ending but also one scene where one of them tried to go outside and it looked like one huuuuuge endless tunnel mazes covered in radioactive plastic quarantine covers ala Resident Evil style. Also, they never get to explain of how those bald human beings being stored in lab chambers.. But one thing's for sure, the bio suit guys didn't pick them to cure their radiation sickness.. Some sick-ass shit scene even had a guy going nuts and starts dressing in a woman's evening gown and starts making love to another guy telling him to suck his dick after he did the tongue licking and kissing. There's a brief rape scene with the single mom too.

8/10. Really enjoyed this although the cons I would complain is that the shaky distorted static cam couldn't get a clear shot of one of the "creatures." To me, it looked like a fucking Congo ape yet alien type of breed.. There's even one scene where the girls stumbled onto some military base with a preggie woman giving birth to this creature and it behaved like a giant worm crawler!!! Fuck... Or more likely, I call it well... Remember Halo Anniversary game where you had this level filled with THE FLOOD ALIENS?!?!? Yes, that's how it looks like.

Stay through the end credits for another dose of shaky cam style of what the "Creatures" looked like and the so-called military experiement stuff. There's even a little bit of human zombies much like REC or Crazies going ape shit on the cam corder heroes and some even had gas masks on!! WTF?? That was intense in the final act...

For a direct to video found footage movie, it really kicked my ass to the edge of the seat.

I also liked one scene where the guy goes into the dark woods and sees the words embedded on each tree trunk in blood writings: "WHAT IS THAT? DID YOU SEE THAT? LISTEN."

Party Monster - 6/10

this is the true story of Michael Alig and the Club Kids who hung out at the nightclub Limelight in NY

Macaulay Culkin did a pretty good job as Michael Alig and Wilmer Valderrama was alright as Superstar DJ Keoki

Seth Green was a little annoying as James St. James

Based on the book Disco Bloodbath, by James St. James, the film opens with Michael Alig (Mcaulay Culkin) as a small-town outcast who lived with his mom before moving to New York. Michael learns the New York party scene from James St. James (Green), who teaches him the "rules of fabulousness", which mostly revolve around attracting as much attention to oneself as possible.

Despite James' warning, Alig hosts a party at Limelight, a local club which is owned by Peter Gatien (Dylan McDermott), and soon becomes the hottest club in New York, with Alig at the head. Alig is named "King of the Club Kids" and goes on a cross country journey in search of more club kids. Alig and James pick up Angel Melendez (Wilson Cruz), Gitsie (Chloe Sevigny), and Brooke (Natasha Lyonne). Soon after meeting, Gitsie becomes Alig's new girlfriend. However, after Michael descends further into drug abuse, his life starts to spiral out of control, eventually culminating in his involvement in the murder of Angel. Gitsie and Michael decide to go to rehab and treat it as a "Second Honeymoon", leaving James behind. James then begins to write his "Great American Novel" published as Disco Bloodbath and later as Party Monster.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice 7/10

Admittedly it scored so high because I was expecting it to be utter shit, and it really wasn't. And because it's got Alfred Molina, who is always awesome.

Actually could have been an 8 if the main character wasn't incredibly annoying. He's also a massive bitch, so when he acts all "hard" in the climax, it comes off really bad.

There is some cool stuff in this movie. Fight and chase scenes are pretty cool, and a lot more intense than the harry potter crap.

Even though it's no match for the original Wicker Man, it still manages to be watchable. The only thing new to this pagan sun worshipper ritual is instead of using the method where the police guy gets burnt inside the Wicker Man here it's something else:

They pick a Christian born again couples in America to be nominated as The Laddie and The Queen of May Day festivals. But on that fatal day, of course the main protagonists tried to brainwash them with their Bible studies and stuff, they still manage to capture them.. The Laddie played by the redneck cowboy gets eaten alive by the locals ala Cannibal Holocaust style. There's brief gore here and there, full of nudity... While the female protagonist gets her ritual of being Queen of Mayday by giving her a dress but at the expense of her life as well. She's being transformed into a fucking mannequin statue despite her suspicions when she saw in the house the other 3 statues that were crowned Queen and when she touched them, the skin broke and it showed their SKELETON!!!! Damn.. Fucking twisted.. They look like 3 plastic dolls sitting on a wicker chair with crowns full of flowers. Can I say House of Wax anyone? Some kind of wicked prom king and queen high school schtick eh? Also, after their deaths are accomplished with those rituals, one of the locals even had a BABY when the cheating boyfriend decided to give in to the sins of the flesh of one hottie local and they even prayed to the Celtic sun goddess to give them ANOTHER COUPLE as a sacrifice so that they can bear ONE CHILD EACH MAY DAY FESTIVAL!!

Go see it. If you can get past the usual musical numbers with a mixture of gospel songs despite even the Wicker Man had its musical moments.. Hehhe. I like it. Also, there's one scene where the scottish media even mocked the Christian girl saying that before she was a gospel singer, they showed her OLD footage of country music video singing songs about beer, sex much like Miley Cyrus does!! Hahahhaa. The song's called, Trailer Trash Love.. LOL.

8/10.

Shame 9/10

Such an emotionally draining movie. A snapshot into a brief portion of someone's life who is dealing with an addiction and demons from his past. Fassbender gave a stunning performance, and I couldn't help but feel aware of the character's state of mind in every scene just by how fluidly Fassbender portrayed him. The emotion; or in most cases, the way he distanced himself from feeling emotion, was raw and painful to watch at times. I don't think I could watch this movie again. It really took it out of me and made me take a look at my own flawed and distant relationship with my own sister. Obviously not for the reasons the characters had in the film, but because of our own demons in our childhood that have caused us to grow apart over the years. Kind of makes you realize that other people who went through similar situations could actually be having their own battle, and to be distant or harsh to them because of your own faults isn't fair to them.

A plotline that 90% of people would really do if it happened in real life like these 2 characters did: Kill people just because they're simply being stupid, obnoxious, famous in reality shows like American Idol, Glee, MTV sweet 16, religious assholes, etc... Imagine this movie giving people ideas who'll probably end up helpless and fucked just like the main character guy does..

Oh..my..fucking.god. I was expecting to be disappointed.. But prepare to get brainfucked again. This movie well, let's just say that the premise is much like Cabin in The Woods then it turns out to be a fucking horrific darker version of Marty McFly's Back To The Future storyline.. Yes, maybe I'm wrong to say it or just being generous.. And why am I saying that? Well, spoilers ahead if you wanna read or just go see it for yourself.

A. 3 strangers all had similar car fucked up accidents.. Samantha, the woman in the coat says she came from 1962 and is driving through Hampshire to go to the hospital cos she's giving birth with hubby, while the bad-ass 80's chick grocery robber Jody claims it's 1985 and she was on her way to Seattle, while Tom, the main guy says his car got stuck in a ditch and was on his way to South Dakota and it's the year 2011.

B. Samantha says she's from 1962 era cos she hasn't seen the new currency of money that was printed in 1980's on Jody's coat while she is from 1985. And Tom, well, his coat was made in 2011. Also, they even noticed the cabin had a radio that looked like it was used from World War era, plus, a bomb shelter with food/beans and liquor all dating back to fucking 1930's and 40's. All of the labels on it are in GERMAN. WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT ALL ABOUT!??!

C. Then comes another character who's a German soldier with a rifle gun and taunts the 3 strangers that all of them had the same lockets with a picture of the woman that looked like she's 30 plus... WHO THE FUCK WAS THAT?

D. And it turns out Samantha the coat woman is the one in the picture, then tells Jody, that she gave birth to a daughter with the SAME FUCKING FIRST NAME!!! And the last name unfortunately is German as well. Neumann. Also, it's later revealed the German soldier is the FATHER of the mother who gave birth to the future 80's bad-rebellious chick Jody!! HOLY FUCKING SHIT.

E. Everytime the characters try to escape the dark woods outside the cabin no matter where they go, they end up back in the cabin. I like how one of them references the fucked shit like they're in a Pac-Man level game or in a Deliverance movie.

I won't tell the ending.. I could go on and on about it.. Man, never have I enjoyed a film that's sooo fucking unexpected, I didn't see that one coming.. Also, pay attention to what happens in the start of the movie with the grocery guy being held at gunpoint and the characters keep on asking "WHAT'S IN THE SAFE?!?" Then, POOOF!! You're in for a fucking surprise.

Tuskegee Airmen TV adaptation... Other than that, the dogfights are what you'd expect that almost look like this movie needs to be on a XBOX game console. Heroes Over Europe anyone? :P And I don't know if it's accurate that even P-51 Mustangs can really outmatch a first jet fighter of Nazi warplanes, ME-262... The German fighter ace pilot is very underused as the main villain aside from the racial slurs within their military ranks and officers that consist of white people.

Saw two movies last night. Finally came round to watching 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotles Mind' which was pretty good. Probably not as great as I'd have hoped because I'd been waiting a long time to see this, so kinda had something truly epic built up in my min. Was still good though. :y:

And secondly, 'A Beautiful Mind'. Saw this around ten years ago, but didn't really pay much attention to it, so had no idea what was going on. Read something yesterday about John Nash and it mentioned how the movie ABM was based on him, so it kinda interested me to see it again and actually watch it properly. Really good film. Really enjoyed it and Russell Crowe did a great job.

Overall, was a pretty decent night of movie watching. :y:

American Beauty. Was fucking amazing. Really lived up to the hype I'd built into it. Had never seen this movie but have heard so much about it since it came out 13 years ago! Had a really gripping story and lots of interesting characters. Pretty sad about Lester being killed at the end, but overall great movie with lots of different, powerful messages. :y:

These are pretty much my first posts in this thread. I'm too lazy to rate movies, especially after only one viewing, but I'm currently streaming and watching shit loads of movies I've never seen that have wanted to for years, most of which are generally in IMBD's Top 250. I'll post each movie in here anyway and just give a brief opinion or whatever, though.

Probably gonna watch Saw VII later, since it's the only one I haven't seen, but after that I think I'll probably go with Full Metal Jacket, since I've not yet seen this one.

It's everything you'd think it is. So it's a good movie. Humor was kept in check and not over done. It's not the Iron Man show like many thought it would be. Black Widow was great. One of the best female characters I've watch in a very long time. I do have to say, you might want to check out Thor (Maybe read up on Captain America if you know nothing about his story since they fan girl over him a bit) before going since having the backstory is a bit is nice, but it's not needed. You can take is as is. But really good show. Can't wait for the next one. No shock there right people?

Men In Black 3. It really did have that deja vu subplot of Back To The Future series.. And the ending, I really liked how Agent J came to be in the year 1969. Damn, it was too touchy and emotional. I won't spoil it. Even though it's no match for the 1st one, I liked it a bit.

I was going to give this movie a 1, but the ending saved it and is worth 3 points. Other than that, bad story, bad script, and other than Patricia Clarkson and Danny Glover, bad acting. Although I'm not really a Danny Glover fan, I just want to give him credit blah blah blah.

The Warriors Way - 13/10. Fucking loved this. Every minute of it. It was a "save all the action until the end" movie and the director knew the right time to do it at. Also, during the final battle scene, the score really brings up the enjoyment rating. This movie is another reason why I want to work in film.

In Time - 5/10. Had a fair bit of hope based on what seemed like a strong premise, but ultimately it didn't deliver much. None of the cast stood out as being particularly strong and the story just seemed to plod along in a barely-interesting series of mostly dull dialogue. With a few tweaks and better cast this could have been a very good sci-fi film.

Fucking awesome!! Much better than Tarantino's Basterds. And the ending is almost similar to Dr. Strangelove. :p Best parts is when the UN leaders argued with the female president who looks Sarah Palin-ish about craving for Helium 3 as the source of the power supply. Kinda like oil and they started fighting each other and blew each other's countries up with nuclear bombs! Hahah.

I almost felt having lots of giggles of the love triangle between a blackie and a hottie SS woman.. The Nazis even tried bleaching the black guy into a fucking pure whitey Nazi.. Michael Jackson reference anyone?

Really fun fun movie.. Nerdgasm overload of the awesome steampunk gadgets of their spaceships and a super flying fortress that requires cellphone USBs. Yes, you heard it just to make the engines work! lol

10/10.

P.S. There's one fave liner from the Sarah Palin-ish president that really struck true in the real world today: "Wars ALWAYS make popular presidents get re-elected again."

Beautiful but a very sad movie that made me get a Kleenex tissue box.. Spanish version of A.I. and Bi-Centennial Man only slightly better. . :( The best way to
kill robots is when you ask the question, "What do you see when your eyes are closed?" and the robot dies and all its memories stored in a holographic DNA style much like in Tony Stark's computers fades out.

The scientist guy even had a robotic cat and a butler too. It's also quite creepy when robots get emotional especially on the aggressive side much like in Terminator TV series and A.I. movie.

Iron Sky 3/5. It was well done yet over all rather pointless. Not enough national socialist ass kicking and some watered down social commentary. Yet it was a lot better than what it could have been and it is certainly watchable and enjoyable. Check it out if you are bored and need something more bubnlegum flavored.

Videodrome 4/5. Possibly 5/5 but time must tell on this one. It was deep and thought provoking. Always keeping you involved in the story with new things. It seems harder to understand in some respects, harder to get through. I do prefer eXistenZ (1999) to Videodrome in nearly every way. James Woods delivered what might be the best performance of his life.

Charlize Theron as the evil queen is still fairest of them all and will always be MY lovely queen celeb.. Kristen Stewart as Snow White is a-ok despite sometimes I look at Bella Swan everytime she talks.. Damn you Twilight. :p There's even a huge reference to the Disney cartoon where they walk into the forest full of animals and the fairies looked like cute Fern Gully cartoonies with a mixture of Gollum-ish on their faces!! As for the 7 dwarves, ha, they're like the LOTR's kick-ass characters in this one. And there's even one scene where brief nudity from the evil queen transforming herself into a Terminator-ish T-1000 black blob liquid to become another person or a flock of ravens much like Dracula would do. And yes, there's even a nod to the poison apple story in it.. All in all, I REALLY enjoyed it despite Kristen is almost wooden in the 2nd half.

The evil queen herself aside from transformation powers, she has a habit of stealing the young girls youth by sucking their life force out... Man, she's chewing every damn scene throughout.. I wouldn't mind owning this on DVD just cos well, Charlize will forever be the fairest of them all. The backstory of the queen's wicked powers is a bit half-baked but fair enough. Still, I liked it for what it was.. Hell, this is much more watchable than Twilight. Queen Ravenna FTW!

Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance - 0/10.
The Grey - 9/10. Loved the first half hour, hated the middle, then it got great again. The ending could have been slightly better. It they showed Liam Neeson and the wolf charging at each other instead of it just fading on Neeson then it would have been a more epic shot and a better indication that they are going to fight each other and you should highlight the black to read it.

Just came back from seeing Prometheus in 3-D!!! Yes, it's totally right up there with the 1st Alien classic. The whole movie and scene for scene is almost reminiscent. Even the heroine quoted Ripley's one liner in the final moments!! And there's even a brief argument of Creationism subplot as well about where and why humans came to exist.. WELCOME BACK TO THE ALIEN WORLD, RIDLEY!!!!! The face huggers resembled a bit like fish with no eyes ala lampreys... Talk about evolution too. As for the Engineers, I truly understand of how that 1st alien ship made its debut in the classic one. Wouldn't mind seeing it again.

As for David the robot, I dunno much about him except he remains a shady character. I refuse to spoil of what happened of how the infection began in the ship!! Go see it.

I was going to make an entire thread on this just to keep my own notes and for my own entertainment. I still might. But for now...

Been watching films from the imdb top 250 list that I haven't seen before. Hoping to eventually get round to seeing them all. Not doing it in any order, not even solely picking ones that I'm interested in the most, I'm mixing it up quite a bit. The last few...

Star Trek (2009) 6.9/10 - Was alright, I guess a bunch of nods to the older stuff might have been lost on me but it was still pretty good, nothing ground-breaking though. Kept me entertained throughout.

Le Notti di Cabiria aka Nights of Cabiria (1957) 1.8/10 -Dreadful film. Plodding plot and poor acting. Not sure why it's on the list.

The Prestige (2006) 8.7/10 - Thoroughly enjoyed this film. The non-linear narrative worked really well with the reveals of certain events being interesting and giving earlier parts of the story more meaning. Thought the entire cast was really good, Hugh Jackman had a little more to his performance than his usual Hugh Jackman-ness and was right up there with Bale and Caine.

Persona (1966) 7/10 - The cinematography used throughout this film was excellent and the two actresses portrayed their parts well enough to get the message of duality across pretty well. The plot jumped all over the show at times but that was very much intentional when you grasp the whole nature of the film. The subtitles were a bit off a lot of the time though.
