Not as compelling as Into Darkness but it's a fun 2 hour episode. Villain origin was pretty creative and the movie as a whole was a blast.

It's good. Good n fun. Which is ok I guess...I dunno. I'm not as big of a fan of fast paced never ending action Star Trek than a slower, more thoughtful one.
They still need to do stuff with the Klingons/Romulans though. Have to have a movie centered around them before you can come up with am excuse to involve the Borg.

Superman Returns-5/10
A boring, uninventive, suffocated slog that tries too hard to pay homage to the previous films so much that it fails both as an extension of the original 2 it's supposed to follow and a platform for future movies that could've been.
The actors, Routh especially, are so bogged down in trying to playv an actor playing a character that it comes off as a high budget fan film.
The recycling of plot, motives, lines, and assumptions in knowing the source material going ruined this movie.
As much as I disliked Man of Steel, I respect that it very much tried to pave its own way as a new direction for its title character.
Returns just apes the original and isn't even fun in doing so

I watched Hackers for the first time last night and it was funny seeing the imaginary visual side of hacking. I guess it was Science Faction if you could call it that.
Kinda reminded me of The Net and Johnny Mnemonic, ExistenZ and all those other dodgy yet awesome techno-net films nobody really admits to watching back then.
I also saw Spotlight and despite it being a very good film, solid performances across the board and very well researched it is no Best Picture. People will forget it existed in a few years and in a few decades it will be on lists of least stand-out Oscar winners ever. That is a big budget daytime movie dressed up.
Lastly The Internet's Own Boy is excellent. I knew next to nothing about Aaron Swartz but this kept me involved all the way through. Give it a go.

Hell yeah.
I can't imagine that they don't already have plans in mind for a Chapter 3. That ending lends itself to it so well. I got a tooootal Warriors vibe from the last act of the movie, I think it would be perfect if the next (/final?) installment is basically John vs all the hitmen of New York kind of thing.
One of the criticisms I've read of Chapter 2 was that it never really felt like Wick was ever in any danger. Basically too Super Cena. I think they could definitely turn that on its ear by having him constantly be on the run, all the while showing off the same bad-ass gunplay that made the first two movies so fun.

Storks-3 outta 10
Got outvoted when we went to rent movies at the Redbox. This would have made a great 10 minute Tex Avery short or even a decent 30 minute short film. But stretched out to almost 1 1/2 hours it is just bad.
Inferno-0 outta 10
When they told me they rented Inferno I thought they had gotten the Dario Argento film. Nope it was some Tom Hanks bullshit Davinci Code drama. Hanks sucks in dramas and hasn't been worth watching since the late 80s.
Born Losers-7 outta 10
No this isn't a documentary about Merc's life story. It is the first of the Billy Jack movies. Pretty decent for a late 60s biker movie. But not nearly as good as Billy Jack.

7/10
Really wanted this to be a 10/10 because it starts strong. Visually it's really awesome. Gore-wise it's pretty good. Reminded me of early 90s gore. Narratively it stumbles halfway thru and keeps stumbling on and off. It should have been 30 minutes shorter and the story tighter.

"The Abyss" gets a near perfect 9/10 for being exhaustingly brilliant. I have never physically held my breath so many times whilst clinging to the edge of my seat before.
The cinematography is out of this world for an 80's film... Probably because this film innovated more or less that entire style of film.
I read a bit of background on this and it sounds like everybody nearly died filming it.
Ed Harris should have won an Oscar for this. I very nearly burst into tears during a particularly emotional scene.
Fuck me I love this film. I watched the Special Edition with an extra 24 minutes restored because if I'm going to watch a movie I want it to be the one the director intended.
Cutting this film is understandable but foolish given that people will sit through a 3 hour film quite contentedly if it is good enough.

What a great movie. I'd never seen it. A lot of what I wish was done in Man of Steel with Zod was done here, with Zod getting to earth and feeling his way around before causing havoc. Also liked that we saw them after they escaped.
Chris Reeve is so damn charming in this film. His bumbling self deprecating Clark, heroic then helpless Supes, was all so well done.
The role cast, really, was spot on. Really loved it. Had a very marvel vibe to it in being whimsical but also with high stakes and escalating circumstances.
My only gripe is the ending. Zod and co just kinda die, but the bait and switch was great.

Some good stuff but it never really came together. Not terrible. If you're looking for good sci-fi concepts, nothing much to see here. Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence are pretty good in it.

I guess it kind of funny but I didn't go into Logan looking for a problem, maybe you didn't with Dawn of Justice. I've stated the problems I had with Dawn of Justice but I did think it was a great movie. I was actually excited to see Logan with all the positive reviews but it just didn't live up to them for me. I wouldn't call my what I had to say about Logan as plot holes either, they were just minor things that threw me off from the movie. I liked it I just didn't love it like most.

Yeah. From a story, character, pacing, editing and overall presentation standpoint Logan is miles better than BvS. You may enjoy one more than the other. But it doesn't change that Logan is far better structurally as a functioning piece of story telling than BvS or Kong, and I enjoyed Kong.

I enjoyed Logan as well but it just didn't connect with me like Dawn of Justice did. My ratings are based on my initial feelings of once I leave the theater and my experience. I've watched movies again and had different opinion after seeing it in my home.
Skull Island didn't leave me with any head scratching questions and I thought it set up this Monsterverse well so I gave it a high rating. My experience at the theater was good. When seeing Logan there were parts of the movie that threw me off of the story and left me questioning why they did it, so I gave it a lower rating but still a good one. Once I watch it at home I may like it better.

That's how you see it I guess but I'm not comparing Skull Island to any other movie when I rate it. It's purely how I felt after seeing the movie. For me Skull Island was a good movie that I had no problems with so 9 felt right at the time. I will say I had more time to think about Logan and talk about it with friends befor posting my rating because I didn't do it after seeing it.

Good to know someone else likes War Zone. That's just how The Punisher should be represented. You are correct movies are entertainment to me not a work of art. I can get safe but they wrapped safe in a lot of action and I loved the fact that Mason and Conrad didn't have a long drawn out love story in the middle of the movie. It was just satisfying to me while Logan was a lot more confusing at parts of it.

The Karate Kid - I had never seen this movie before, so it didn't have that glow of nostalgia while watching it but it was good I guess. Ralph Macchio is actually a good actor, very natural, and likeable as New Jersey wop. Little bit corny, but I still liked it, a little bit long though.
The Karate Kid Part 2 - Daniel Larusso and Mr Miyagi go to Okinawa! Surprisingly well shot with a nice score,it almost would have felt like an art-house movie if not for scenes of a scrawny teenager karate chopping blocks of ice in a crowded bar. Plot is a bit shit, and it's almost comical the way Mr Miyagi's old rival (now successful business man) keeps showing up and challenging Mr Miyagi to a fight. Stuff about honour and saving a village and then there is a big storm. The ending goes off the rails with the business man's nephew zip lining into a dance and challenging Daniel to a fight to the death! I still liked it, a little bit long though.
Battle of Algiers - This was a re watch. One of my favourite movies of all time. The film is over 50 years old and it's still the best movie dealing with Western powers fighting guerrilla forces (terrorists). You would think some contemporary filmmaker would apply this movies style to a more modern conflict like Iraq or something. Great movie.
