I feel like they could make a good Dr. Suess movie in that style, doing 3 or 4 of the shorter stories.
Like 3 different Suess stories, all featuring celebrity voices. Maybe with different types of animation too. Some CG, and some traditional

Taking Woodstock: 7/10. It dragged a lot and I lost interest abut an hour and a half though. but I thought they did a good job showing how big it really was

Deathrace: 8.5/10: awesome movie. Didn't expect it to be as good as it was. Loved the concept

Law Abiding Citizen: 9.5/10: Fucking unreal. I kind of was cheering on Butler's character through this whole thing. I loved his pyscology and how he just outsmarted everyone. Amazing how he planned everything out

Wasn't the concept of both of these movies the exact same, only one with cars and the other with video games?

Either way, Running Man did it first.

It was just hard to follow. I was watching this shitty movie one time called Harry Potter, and I had absolutley no idea what they were talking about because they spoke too fast, they used some weird English accent, and the people were just complete faggots. Sherlock Holmes was just hard to follow and sort of sounded like the accents they used in Harry Potter. Cheesy shit "horror" at its best. It's about a silver mining crew that finds a safe on a sunken Russian ship. Inside the safe is vodka that 2 crew members drink and it genetically alters them into killer mutant fish people.

Night and the City 7/10

An old film noir. A con man with delusions of grandeur goes to a professional wrestling show. The show is run by a man named Kristo, who has a stranglehold on the wrestling industry and is turning it into a spectacle. His father, Gregorious is ashamed at what is being done to wrestling. The con man sees an opportunity and begins a hustle to start his own wrestling promotion... earning him many enemies in the process.

Wolfman 7/10

I would imagine a lot will say this is shit. It's a cheesy monster feature, but that's what it should be.
I liked that it was set in 19th century England. The whole tone and atmosphere of the movie was great, and they did a slow build instead of overdoing the werewolf action and making it boring.

Really I'm just a sucker for werewolf movies and mythology, and it never seems to get as many go arounds as Vampires and Zombies and the rest of them.

The plot is kind of jumbled at times, but I appreciate that there was one. That's more than most modern horror flicks can say. There were actually multiple plot-lines going on, which is even more rare.

If you like monster movies, check it out.

Stepfather: 7/10

I never saw the originals, but I knew the whole theme. The opening scene in this was classic. very good way to start a movie. The rest of the movie was just the audience waiting for the stepfather to snap. The build to the ending was good. The ending was horrible though. It's like they had a great pace leading to the ending and then then zipped right through it. Also, I really wanted more of a backstory on the Stepfather. I wish we would of found out about him as a child, young adult and what led to him doing what he did.

For me it would sell the psychological issues I'd associate to a girl living the life she was forced to. That the whole faun ordeal was her way of escaping the fact that her step father was a mad man, her mother was ill, and she had nobody (save Mercedes) to relate to.

This is a horror film with a little bit of a mind fuck involved. Basically the main character relives the same thing over and over. And it takes place in the Bermuda Triangle. It's ok if you have time to kill.

Woah, what the fuck. Didn't expect this at all. I am a fan of the sick horror movies and all, but this one was pretty disturbing. It had me on the edge on my seat and freaked out for the entire movie. The character could really be the next new horror icon, but I read it preformed terrible in the box office. But if you like the gore and the horror films that just make you very uncomfortable and have your heart racing, see this one.

Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever 1/10

hahaha lol. incredible. if you like cheesy B movie type horror, then get this. The blurb on the back of the movie is so fucked because it's not the movie at all. It says "3 days after the flesh eating virus killed his friends, Paul (from Cabin Fever 1) sets out to warn a near by high school of the dangerous virus." Or something to that effect. So the movie starts with Paul waking up in the forest where he had been since the 1st movie and then like within 2 minutes he is killed by a passing school bus. ROFL WHAT???? So the whole movie just shifts to the school and the virus is already there. And you can figure out the rest.

Carriers: 7/10

This was alright. It's pretty much your standard virus attacks the world and the survivors are trying to get somewhere to find a cure or a safe zone. There's no zombies or anything, but the main characters run into the infected people along the way and what not. worth a watch I guess

Circle of Eight: 2/10

meh, the concept was cool and I didn't even figure it out until I read it online after I watched the movie, but it's real cheesy. There's a lesbian sex scene in this though that's just thrown in the movie without any purpose at all. The two girls aren't even in the movie after the scene. lol

If I didn't know a little more about English history than Mel Gibson, I'd probably have given it 8 or 9 out of 10.

It isn't supposed to be a historically accurate movie, nor did he ever claim it was. In fact, he has specifically said the movie was not supposed to be accurate, and is supposed to be just a 'cinematically compelling' film.

Which is what it is. You've got no eye for quality entertainment, and I will stand by those words all the way to my grave. Braveheart is quite possibly the only film whose honor I would ever defend to my death.

It is a story of epic proportions, which had incredible cinematography for when it was made. You expected a historically accurate film from a movie that you should have known would have very little. It's been out since fucking 1995.. and it's taken you this long to see it? Surely you knew something about it going into it.. It's fucking Braveheart. I realize you're not from the States.. but it's Braveheart.

Pretty baffled by this right now. What other movies do you like? This makes me think you have horrible taste in everything now, because it makes me think you watch movies for completely wrong reasons.

You do watch Comedies to laugh, right? You sound like someone who might watch them just to point out all the jokes that weren't funny.

Also seriously stfu. It is a film about William Wallace, Robert the Bruce, Edward I and Edward II. Those were real people, very famous and important people in English and Scottish history. I feel perfectly entitled to expect some accuracy from it if it isn't a film based around a fictional character and events which are expressly stated as being fictional like say Gladiator. Jesus.

Horrible comparison to strengthen your 'point'. Gladiator had real people and real 'surrounding events' as well. No difference at all, except that the main character of Braveheart was a real person. In Gladiator, he killed fucking Caesar. A Caesar whose character was very much based on the real person he was portraying. Following a Caesar who was also a real person, at the end of a war that really happened. How is that not a historical inaccuracy in a movie with real people and real events?

The fact of the matter is... you expected historical accuracy out of a movie which you SHOULD have known had none, because it is from 19-freaking-95 and is a well known movie. It won countless awards, regardless of the inaccuracies, BECAUSE it wasn't touting itself as a history film. If you went into the movie thinking that it would be a historically accurate depiction of what happened, and not 'an epic tale of revenge and romance', then you deserve to be disappointed by it.

ct2k

Gladiator was a film about a guy who never existed, spliced into a period of 'real' history. Braveheart is a film about a guy who did exist, only the historical events and characters have been doctored, it really isn't the same thing at all.

We are arguing because anything less than a 9/10 is insulting to the quality of this film. It should only lose 1 point at most for the imperfections such as historical inaccuracies, because besides that, the movie is a shining example of what a film should be.

Requiem

And what.. because it alters history with a fake character as opposed to altering history with a real character, it is somehow different?

The comparisons are the exact same premise, simply one MAIN character is real, and the other is not. The surrounding cast of each were all real people as well, as were the events/world surrounding the things that happened in each.

Aurelius, Commodus and Lucilla were all real. As far as I am aware everyone and everything else in Gladiator is a composite of a huge array of people, places, events and entirely made up facts which have been put together in order to create a fictional story which only vaguely pertains to any real chain of events, if any, and is in no way a representation of history 'as it happened'. That is why I see a distinction.

Kano, seriously, for a film student you missed the boat on that one.

Jon Kano

I tend to get that from people who like think about what a film student should know or have heard about.

Jeritron

Just seems like someone who is moderately interested in film would have heard something about a movie that was nominated for umpteen Academy Awards and a huge hit at film festivals all year

Jeritron

I bet Goldust has heard of Precious

Jon Kano
03-19-2010, 04:07 AM
I study film, I work in film, I love film. What I take in lately and keep my eye on is not what is always what people at the Academy are.

And yeah I heard of it, like the title, but know nothing about it.

The recurring theme of this years nominees was Mech Battles

As far as actually being paid for what I do...I make DVD covers, posters, website graphics, logos and anything they want me to. 'They' are a production company I have worked with in the past for free as a runner on set of various productions they operate themselves or for or with other companies. I have been doing the graphic stuff freelance for 2 years. The stuff on set and helping them with their 'film' products I have been doing since 2004.

They have allowed me to kinda be basically part of their staff, I get to do as much as I want, I get a lot of contacts and meet new people in the business every now and then. And I have a contact at the UK Film council who sends me good tips, places and people to try and get myself out there more. When I first worked for them, I met Alan Moore which was awesome. At the time I didn't even know he lived in my town.

I was kinda hoping Kano was a scriptwriter.

I have been writing my own scripts since late 2002, and while I was at uni and working for all these companies. I do my best to 'get my stuff' seen and meet the right people whenever I network with the companies I with with and for.

It's pretty hard not being in London or somewhere we I can get to a decent position, but I couldn't live there anyway.

The woman I know at the UK Film council, I first met her when she saw my stuff and asked me to write scenes for a film they were making with Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead). I gave it a go, but they chose someone elses work and every now and then she gives me other ops like that.

But yinno, I'm happy doing my own stuff, just writing, working for those guys and doing what I'm doing. Sounds bit ghey, but I am just happy to be part of whatever I can get my hands on.

For a sequel to a cult classic, it wasn't that bad. But I think Duffy had some shitty microphones on hand. I was adjusting my volume every few minutes. That or my TV is on the fritz.

I could have done without the Mexican dude, and Julie Benz's character irritated me to no end, but it was still pretty decent.

A few of my friends weren't impressed by this but I really enjoyed it. The only gripe I had was that the soundtrack was way too entrusive in the opening scenes.

Amazing. Watched this after not sleeping for like two days and felt like I dreamt the entire thing or something.

A couple is unable to have a child so they dig up a tree root and fashion it into a surrogate baby and then it starts to murder people. From Jan Svankmajer, love him.

This was honestly the first feature film I've seen of his that I actually really liked. All of the others I've seen are not that great, yeah.

His best stuff is his short films.

These are probably my favorite of his:

But her voice in the movie was like nails on a chalkboard constantly to no end. And then they stick her in the cowboy getup shooting people even though she wasn't really there..ugh

Anyway..

So I just watched Michael Moore's Capitalism movie. Its one of those things where half of it I was wanting to punch the tv and the other half I wanted to punch the tv repeatedly and throw it out the window, but I at least showed some restraint for 2 hours. Dont wanna drag politics into here but anyway the only interesting part that I took away from it was companies who take out "Peasant Insurance" on their workers in case they die, since that is something I've never heard mentioned before anywhere.

1/10

I think Blockbuster messed up and sent my Michael Moore's movie instead of Dead Snow which is what I was supposed to get, so at least I have an excuse to bitch and complain to Blockbuster and get a freebie of some sort for being an online customer of theirs for almost 6 years.

I just saw Pineapple Express for the first time. People had been bugging me to see it for upwards of a year, and the other night I was drunkenly cornered by friends and forced to watch it.

Well I was definitely pleased with it. Great movie, great cast. A little bit different than what I was expecting I will say. For some reason that big fat black cop lady that was in the film for all of 45 seconds made the whole thing for me.

A complaint would be a lack of scenes with his mega hot eighteen year old girlfriend. While it seemed this would end up being a centerpiece for the film, she ended up being in all of three scenes.

I'll give this an 8/10. It cannot achieve the maximum rating I believe due to a complete lack of titties of any sort.

Loved Kristen and the [mostly] well directed action, but I probably need to blog about what went wrong with this movie. Here's a hint: shoot the fucking writer. I've never known to personally dislike a writer because of his content, but there's a first time for everything - and this guy offended both SF franchise and cinema conventions. Jesus Christ.
