Stranger by the Lake - Cool, stripped down french thriller about this homosexual guy who goes to this lake where gay guys "cruise". He witnesses this other good looking gay guy kill someone but doesn't say anything. I liked the atmosphere, but this probably featured the most graphic gay sex I have ever seen, including a close up shot of a dick being jerked off and ejaculating everywhere. Still a good movie and a subtle commentary on the dangers of desire and sex, I guess. 8/10

The Thing(2011)- 7/10

The original is my fav horror movie of all time, so already this movie had a a lot to live up to. It does a pretty good job. The CG effects were better than I thought they'd be, but they still don't compare to the original.

It's still good, but without Keith David and the Rus' memorable characters, and Carpenters classic cinematography, it's not quite as good. It also doesn't add anything to the story besides detailing what happened to the swedes. Was hoping that as a prequel, we'd learn more about the creature itself. Though I understand that the lack of intel on it adds to the scariness.

As a fan, I still really enjoyed it, and I rev omens it to fans of the original.

Oz the Great and Powerful - Alright. Really camp and cheesy. Enjoyable in some parts but a bit flat overall. Thought the whole Theodora turning into the wicked witch scene should've been such a huge deal, but the character was pretty underdeveloped for it to have any impact. Sandra Bullock channels Isaac Clarke and Ripley's persona minus aliens after all that bus driving over 50 mph for a bomb, beauty pageant plus, hacking computers really put to good use in this movie. The only enemies are space station debris and dealing with dead cosmonauts. It was Veritcal Limit, Speed, Apollo 13, and Dead Space feel to it..

It's about time she deserves a break from the crapola buddy cop comedy shit.

Now You See Me - Dumb movie that people kept recommending to me. It was okay at first but then it switched perspectives to the pursuers and it got awful. The twist reveal was really stupid (Woody Harrelson driving a bus) and then there were non ironic ideas about magician guilds throughout history and I just wanted to die. This seems like a movie that dumb people would find "clever".

Prisoners - This was pretty good, kind of reminded me of that movie The Ghostwriter where a paper back thriller is elevated by really good direction/cinematography. I was hoping this would go in a Zodiac like direction but all of the movies ideas are kind of thrown out in favor of plot. Good movie though and I really liked Jake Gyllenhaal.

Leviathan - Cool experimental documentary where the filmmakers just put cameras all over a commercial fishing boat. Interesting and original aesthetic that makes something pretty ordinary look like science fiction.

9/10.

25 yrs and he's still scaring the shit out of kids... The heroine is actually Chucky's daughter in real life considering Brad is the voiceover of him and they share the same last name.. Would've been a nicer twisted ending where father and daughter are now partners in crime ... Woman in a wheelchair gone insane under the influence of Chucky. And that backstory origin of Chucky as a serial killer befriending the heroine's family was a bit contrived but still, I liked it better when he was just some unknown stranger killer that has no history except he likes voodoo stuff and strangling people.. It was a better movie than the last one although Jennifer Tilly's cameo was a bit of self parody. Oh well, Chucky's still got it and we're still friends to the end.

My only gripe with The Curse of Chucky movie is when he played Hide the Soul with the little girl, how come we never get to see his spirit transfer over her body? What gives? Oh well, dolls live longer than humans I guess.

Extra ending after end credits btw will probably open up a sequel for it.

I read in some interview of the director saying that his plans for a sequel takes place after that ending but you never know. Chucky never dies easily in the movies. And I still don't get the part of the little girl who played Hide the Soul with him.. And he never accomplished the feat. It seems offscreen that we don't know if she's infected with his spirit or not.

Hence why I said there needs to be a sequel to explain that.

More of the same and what's worse than men ass raping a woman in this one?

Answer: Another fucking woman who's a mom to these sick ass rapists and she endorses raping in general and she's married to her former rapist who also rapes the heroine.

The 2nd is just as extreme gore stuff as the first one, like balls being squashed, tased and ultimately slicing both of them, the guy's face being drowned in the dirtiest toilet full of shit and slicing abdomens open.

Wasn't awestruck by the series or anything but it wasn't as terrible as I've always heard it made out to be. Just watched The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Extended Edition. I enjoyed all of the LotR Extended Editions (even if they made it freaking long), but The Hobbit Extended Edition really added nothing of value. Perhaps because of the fact that they have already extended one book into three movies. In fact, some of the stuff they added just served to break up the "flow" of the movie. I think maybe only some of the stuff in Rivendell was worth the re-add.

I think the theatrical edition is better, on the whole.

Disconnect - Not too shabby film about social networking and how detrimental it can be. Has some pretty sad moments, overall it's worth a watch.

Kill List - I really liked it, but can def see how it can be very polarizing.

The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover - Pretty good. Quite slow at times which made it feel like it was dragging on a bit, but a decent enough watch. Use of colour was sweet.

The Hunt - Brilliant. Really hard to watch at times but couldn't take my eyes off it. Really "gripping". I highly recommend it.

This is The End - Okay. Get's that much just for James Franco. Don't really remember it making me laugh

Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa - Best comedy I've seen in years. Laughing throughout, even at the cheap "Guy with no pants on" toilet humour that I usually just cringe at. Coogan had all the tried and tested nuances down and it worked brilliantly in a longer story. Gonna have to go back and watch all the shows again now.

The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug 8.5/10

Much better than the first outing. Feel like the series would have been much stronger if they somehow could manage to compress the first two movies into one (making it a two film series again).

A couple of notes: I would like to Fili Evangeline Lilly. I liked the addition of her and Legolas into the plot.

I got confused with Bard, because he looks exactly like Orlando Bloom in Pirates of the Carribean.

Smaug kind of sounded like Scar from the Lion King.

Also, I felt that the "Misty Mountain" song was sorely missing from the film's score. I thought it would become like The Fellowship Theme in LotR, that would reoccur in all the movies.

If I had to say something bad about the first one, it'd be the presence of Lenny Kravitz, his character was too secretive feeling. He ended up being a good lad.

I have the reading habits of a 15yo girl so I enjoyed the books, not got around to seeing the 2nd movie yet though, it's just a Battle Royale rip off though.

I know it's based off something from that, but the way the movie is set with Final Fantasy type areas made me immersed.

I wonder exactly how big her male fan base is.

Don't think Tony Danza has gotten enough credit for how good he was in his role.

Also, JGL should get a lot of credit for pulling this movie off. They used the 'porn' hook to tell a pretty good story that was about personal growth, family, and finally love.

Really disturbing early 70s horror movie where a young girl is assaulted and brutally raped and left for dead by a group of four friends. She does not die and exacts extreme revenge on them. The concept is great and realer than most other horror movies. I liked how psychological it was and the differences in it are what made it good. The girl is also comp!etely naked for most of the film. It is disturbing though.

Here is another one that I had wrong. I thought it was going to be a direct continuation onto the next movie type deal... but turned out it was the complete story. As such... it felt kind of rushed... I dunno... they built up the whole angle of being "liked" and getting "sponsors".... then they finally got to the competition and it only actually came into play something like twice. I feel like the actual competition could have been stretched out more, while all the build up could have been shortened.

I have no idea what the sequel would be about, but I'll probably watch it eventually. It is still in theaters, unsure whether it is worth seeing it in theaters or not. Probably just wait.

The second one is SO much better than the first. They strike a better balance between the build up and the actual Hunger Games. They take the time to show how winning has changed Peter and Katniss, they take the time to build the tension between the antagonist and the protagonist, and they actually execute the plot pretty well.

I won't spoil any more of the movie...but I went to watch it in the theater, and I am glad that I did.

Pretty good run of films lately.

Gravity - Great. Wish I would've watched it in the cinema, but my TV had to do.

Lunopolis - Recommendation from Frank Drebin, finally found it online. Really enjoyed it, check it out if you like time travel paradox stuff.

Don Jon - Eh, it was okay. Nothing special though.

Fruitvale Station - Pretty good, was expecting a little more though. Just didn't feel any sort of attachment to the main character really. Well worth a watch at least if you haven't seen it.

Blue Is the Warmest Colour - Pretty good French "coming of age" film with loads of lesbo blowjobs. Actresses apparently weren't happy with how they were treated and it's not really surprising given the intensity of the sex scenes, one of which is 7 minutes long. Good film though.

The Spectacular Now - Loved it. Right up with Gravity and Prisoners as one of the best films of 2013 for me. Really liked how it kept leaning towards typical teen drama tropes, but then takes it in another direction.

Felt like it should have been just a little bit longer.

The Raid Redemption 7.5/10

The action in this movie was just balls out insane. Tony Jaa, Bruce Lee, Wesley Snipes, and JCVD would all be able to sit down and enjoy this movie. It's a great popcorn flick.

Only reason I thought to watch this movie was because of this Trailer:

American Hustle was the balls, the hair messing scene right at the start and the quick cut to the choke scene in the car followed by his outfit in the street afterwards are probably the 2 funniest scenes I saw last year

Was okay but far too long really for a Disney film meant for families etc. I really liked Armie Hammer in the title role but thought they tried too hard to push Johnny depp down our throats as tonto.

I am being a tad liberal but I absolutely loved the movie. Olivia Wilde and Jake Johnson were excellent. I also loved Jake Johnson's character in the "Safety Not Guaranteed" movie. He touches me on an emotional level. For realzies.

The Wolf of Wall Street - 9/10

funniest film I've seen for some time, DiCaprio is ridiculously good in it which isn't really surprising nowadays. "The cerebral palsy stage" scene had me crying.

Watched "Her" earlier on and loved it. Maybe possibly might be the best film I've seen in a while. Dunno, "Gravity", "The Hunt" and "Prisoners" are all way up there too but that's pretty great company for me to be putting "Her" in with.

Kick-Ass 2: I kinda hated it. It couldn't make up its mind on whether it wanted to be a mean-spirited hatchet job of superheroes or a winking "nah, you know we love ya" parody kind of deal, so it just became kind of a mess. "Superhero stories are idiot male power fantasy written by and for delusional man-child losers with a hardon for violence and sexualized young women. Now enjoy this underage girl in a schoolgirl outfit brutally kung fu murdering a room full of gangsters."

Fun enough. Read the comic book recently, so I figured I'd watch the movie as well. I'd say it is better than the first movie. The comic book definitely does a better job balancing the "comedic/absurd/parody" nature with the "serious/escalating dark drama" bit. One of the most powerful scenes in the comic book is turned into a joke in the movie.
