When people say they want the Attitude Era back, what they really mean is they want wrestling to be fun. Have you watched the Attitude Era recently? 80% of it is garbage. I don’t know anyone who is clamoring for more Road Dogg v. Headbanger Thrasher matches. But we all tolerated it because it was part of the spectacle of Austin and McMahon.

Fans don't necessarily know what they want. And you can't replicate Stone Cold Steve Austin or the Rock.

I just don't think the way to more viewers is blowing your load with long, over-the-top matches.

You get there with good stories and establishing characters on your T.V. IMO. Then, when the PPVs come around, you go 100% to give fans' their money's worth.

in other words, long, taxing, dramatic matches should be something special. Not something you see on any given Tuesday.

There's a fine balance to giving fans just enough on your TV, where the action is hot but not overabundant.

Too much 50/50 booking already. Nobody seems strong except maybe MJF and Jericho. Though, if they're going by the NWA methodology, there's a chance the strong heels are by design. Because the booking is centered around the chase of the bad guy on top and not one dominant face champ. Or so I've heard.

Omega and Fenix are probably the best choices they currently have in regards to the short term. Fenix is the more valuable of the two since he can grow the Hispanic market for AEW and also strengthen their partnership with AAA.

Omega should have already been an established star for AEW but he mentioned before about wanting to take it easy this year for himself and being more focused on making sure the women's division was on very stable ground first. Based on what he said about the division for early 2020, that goal is almost done and he's likely going to start ramping things up for himself very soon.

At this point, AAA grabbing all the notable US indie companies for partnerships and CMLL still sticking with NJPW despite the Dragon Lee situation are likely the only reasons why the ROH-NJPW partnership still exists. MLW, AEW, and Impact are all with AAA while NWA has less to offer than ROH does.

NJPW would get a big boost in terms of US star power by getting access to the Elite crew again. They took a noticeable hit in both star power and merch sales in the US when the Elite left. Unlike ROH, they did start improving their situation towards the latter half of the year but having those guys around would still be a big boost for the company.

I think that NJPW and AXS are almost about to come to an end. NJPW of America could absolutely use some TNT rub on Dynamite.

If I was Tony Kahn I'd angle to get a deal with NJPW. I'd say one condition in that nobody working in AEW from the AAA deal can work in the same match as someone working for CMLL through NJPW, which isn't common anyway. I'd encourage my younger talents to sign contracts with MLW or WOW, work for any company other than WWE/NXT/WWN, ROH, Impact and CMLL (to keep AAA happy).

AEW really never needs to do house shows. Instead, letting their workers make indie dates all over the world, they will stay relevant and original, which honing their craft in the way which makes a world class wrestler.

Gives importance to an otherwise thrown together match in Best Friends & Orange Cassidy vs Jurassic Express, recaps the Kris Statlander saga so far, and sheds a little light as to why Cody & Dustin are wrestling the Lucha Bros. Add in a few more minutes covering the other matches announced, and that could be a cool, different way to open up a wrestling show every week.

Or just disperse these clips throughout the show. You can't rely on viewers to continue following on YouTube to get pertinent storyline information. Not every TV match needs to be 12 minutes, knock a few back down to 9 minutes and make time for some of these clips.

That DDP promo is like the embodiment of why I wish they'd just do more prepackaged stuff on Dynamite. The live promo was unbelievably awful and the Road To one has made me convinced I want to see a match that I'm pretty sure is going to be bad.

The deal is reportedly worth $45 million annually and TNT has the option to extend into 2024 with an increase in the rights fee. The longterm stability this creates is obviously a huge win and the money coming in is something you can't turn down, even if I do feel that adding another show is not in their best interest right now creatively.

The next round of free agent hunting is going to be extremely hard-fought. Happy for all the talent that's about to get paid.

That is a good idea in practice, but it would just devolve into being the elite episodes on tv instead of youtube.

I would love if they added a 1 hour studio show aka Powerrr in the old WCW Saturday Night spot at 6:05pm. It could even be a mix of that with Tuesday Night Titans or Prime Time Wrestling, where they kick it over to a match or two previously taped but unaired, as well as showing promos and vignettes.

The average Raw in 2016 was $880k. If you multiply that by 51, you basically get $45 million. Were they spending that much less on production than WWE would have been a few years ago? It feels like they've just moved the production coverage over to rights fees and given them an extra scheduled year in exchange for more content.

It hasn't been denied though. Not yet anyway.

You can't obtain protection or USPTO registration prior to using the mark in commerce. You can file an USPTO intent to use application but your registration is not actually granted until after the mark is used by the applicant in commerce. You must then use the mark in commerce (usually) no more than 6 months after the intent to use (ITU) application. The reason to file an ITU application is because your registration date (if later granted) will be effective from the date you filed the ITU application and not the later actual date of first use or actual approved registration.

WWE let the original Bash at the Beach trademark registration expire. Merely owning the copyrights (logos, graphics, animations, videos of PPVs) (and licensing those copyrights among a group of others to the public) that contain a former registered trademark may not necessarily meet the proper legal definition required of use in commerce. Use in commerce is one of the elements required to receive and maintain trademark registrations and rights, either for USPTO, state, or common law protections. If WWE was still putting out Bash merch, selling Bash at the Beach DVDs or individual old Bash streams, or putting on new Bash events/PPVs, then that would definitely be use in commerce. Simply having the old PPV events still available to stream on WWE Network may not be enough, though WWE should and will likely argue it is.

1. He looked amazing. Imagine Matt 20 years ago, and then imagine what you'd hope he'd look like in 20 years if he stayed healthy. That's what we got right now. He's completely changed his physical appearance. It's quite a feat of fitness. Now after seeing this appearance, I really want him to be the leader of The Dark Order. I think his creativity would SOAR in the role. This Broken gimmick was indeed Broken by WWE.... but so was DDP and he just kicked ass on Dynamite last week and was super over. So happy for Matt to turn his life around AGAIN. Insane.

2. Jim Cornette ... with him truly ripping up AEW weekly this role would make so much sense in a very inside shooty type of angle wrapped in the cloak of The Dark Order... would be very intriguing to wrestling fans. It wouldn't be quite a simple of a fit as Matt Hardy would be but a story of Jim Cornette using jobber goons to try and prove a point and take out The Elite of AEW and become a control player behind the scenes would be really cool. The thing is that you'd still have to find a guy, an avatar to lead the physical push of The Dark Order.

I'm pretty sure they expected CM Punk to sign with them. All the Chicago-based stuff and them being a good sized promotion running against Vince. But Punk has always carried himself with a bit of dignity and taken his wrestling pretty seriously. It's pretty insulting when you have a bunch of no-marks flopping around and making it look easy and trivial.

They've also missed out on every significant free agent. They've all signed with either WWE or ROH. Meltzer speculated Revolution might end up with around 80-85k ppv buys as a worst case scenario due to the big hit they very likely are going to take from the UK market since ITV shut down their ppv service there.

FITE is carrying the event for the UK and internationally but he doesn't think it will fully make up the 20k in buys from that region.

He also did speculate that the US could end up carrying the load from the UK as a potential scenario as well based on how well the tv build for the event was compared to Full Gear.

The show has been built around Jericho/Moxley and Cody/MJF. One of them is a WWE-style program around two guys from the WWE that people know, while the other has the most protected babyface going against the best heel they've got. It's got a real shot at doing some business, even if the TV has lost people and Full Gear didn't do that amazing coming off that initial boost.

I'm more interested to see how they do with Double or Nothing II, as there will be that year-to-year comparison. But this buyrate is hard to predict. Especially since Meltzer stopped reporting the data clearly, because it led to things like revealing that there was a <30% retention rate for All Out. They only have so many potential fans and first-time buyers to burn through.

Meltzer clearly gets inside information. He's been right about lots of things. This seems weirdly insignificant, but Randy Orton winning the 2017 Royal Rumble always comes to mind. I'd have no clue that was happening if Meltzer didn't report it. But more and more Meltzer seems to be going to the odds-makers because they seem to know way more than he does.

I don't expect him to be unbiased. I really don't. And I can understand when he has to cover so many hours of this shit that he wants the underdogs to succeed. And they're his friends, so he's going to curve towards them. I actually don't mind that. But that doesn't mean he can't report things as they happen. He doesn't need to flat-out lie about the AEW side to make them look better and the WWE side to make them look worse. And, for the most part, I do think he does a decent job of that. But I dunno, maybe I should be madder at him?

He does need to keep himself relevant, and his latest way of doing that has been to appeal to the smarks. They're the ones that subscribe. So he tells them that AEW wins in the key demos but SmackDown is down in viewership (despite SmackDown doing better in the key demos in its slot than AEW does in its). He'll tell them that Randy Orton is a money-hungry grub and AEW was too smart to sign him, but then Tony Khan will come out on Twitter and whinge about being played. AEW can "get everyone they want." Marty Scurll re-signs with ROH. Vince McMahon is taking over NXT. Nope.

It's tough when you're reporting on what used to be such a secretive business, because a lot of the time you will be reporting hearsay and rumors from guys lower on the pecking order with an axe to grind. It would actually take a lot of discernment and talent to be able to separate the fact from the fiction there. But lately Meltzer has just been rankling me with the "AEW is winning" narrative, which is very clearly a rosy-glassed view of things.

* Their TV deal only for $45 million a year. That might be fine to have in your personal bank account, but it's chump change for a TV deal -- especially when you are going to be offering more content. When you factor in that back in 2016 it cost $880k to run your average Raw, if you multiply that by 51, you get...$44.9 million. Coincidence? Maybe. But it sounds to me a lot like the Saudi announcement WWE made when they got stranded. It was details already known, but they just came out and said it to make it sound new and like a development.

* The TV ratings "war" between these two shows is ridiculous. Nielsen themselves suggest a 10% era of margin either way on their reporting. This isn't like the Monday Night Wars when the WWF would register a 4.9 and WCW would be getting a 3.5 or whatever. These ratings are within a stone's throw from each other each week and a narrative is being painted of AEW far and away having the larger fan-base. Meanwhile WWE is still killing them with Raw and SmackDown, which should be shameful with the state those shows are reportedly in most weeks.

It's just exhausting seeing the myth reported as reality. I get that fans want AEW to do well, Meltzer among them. But it doesn't help them, nor does it help wrestling, for them to be dishonest about what it's achieved and the direction it is trending. That will just end in a further monopoly for Vince.

The 15-20k range is what the UK's share of AEW PPV buys have been since they started. Meltzer also doesn't think FITE is a strong enough replacement for the region at least for the time being which is how he came up with his low end estimate for the show.

If they manage to get around 100k again, then that means either their US PPV market grew or their international market managed to pick up the slack or both. That would be a pretty great sign since it means tv has grown their PPV market. If they hit that 80k range, then it means they managed to remain steady but haven't really grown yet despite the tv presence.

According to the Observer, early numbers for Revolution's PPV buys are up compared to Full Gear at least in regards to B/R Live and FITE.

B/R buys went up by around 10%. If that gain is from new B/R Live subscribers then TNT is going to be happy since that was one of their expectations for AEW.

Overall number is currently not known but probably going to still be lower than Full Gear due to UK market issues.

According to the Observer, AEW's current plans for their Blood & Guts War Games style match is to delay it till their July 22nd show in Newark, New Jersey.

The match and show itself was originally planned for March 25th but that got put on hold after the venue postponed all events there for the rest of this month.

There was some speculation AEW would keep their current plans intact and run the match in an empty arena or potentially elsewhere but it makes sense to still keep it as the big attraction for their Newark show later in the year.

As far as Dynamite goes at least they filmed all of their shit a few weeks ago, they taped enough content to get them through May while primarily using talent that were within driving distance in Georgia and Florida. They're not making talent travel in every week like WWE are doing.

But a lot has changed between that last round of tapings and now. Even if they were taping a month or two worth of shows, I'm against making anyone travel again anytime soon.

The best thing for AEW would be to strike up deals with promotions they're on good terms with - PWG, DDT, AAA, Gatoh Move, whoever else - about securing some archive footage to flesh out an existing program. AEW's belt designer confirmed what was mentioned on last night's broadcast of Double or Nothing was true about the TNT title not being finished in time for the show due to coronavirus issues.

Also the finished design is meant to resemble the NWA TV title since that is where the inspiration came from.

I think the biggest issue with the belt is how plain the centre is, which this doesn’t seem to fix.

Last weekend's Double or Nothing event is currently rumored to have done around 100k PPV buys based on early estimates and reports.

Assuming that number holds, that's pretty amazing considering the circumstances both in regards to the event's build and coronavirus-related issues.
