Unfortunately that's what I've been doing too. I used to have a weekly ritual where I'd sit in my car and eat Chipotle when a new episode came out but there's been too many times where I've had to turn him off lately.

The wackiest stuff with Corny is that he's willing to scorch personal relationships because he doesn't like certain things. I'm pretty sure he's completely burned bridge with Chris Jericho over AEW, somebody who he knows and at one time had a pretty close personal relationship. That's where it gets batty.

Him being shitty to everyone makes it equal, not necessarily ok. If the specific accusation is targeting minority populations for harassment, I don't think that is shaking out to be the case. They show up from time to time on Dark but think the reason for their lack of matches in recent weeks was due to Janela getting hurt during his match against Omega earlier in the year and him being busy working for GCW.

I wouldn't be surprised if Janela leaves AEW once his contract is up. Less due to his low status or lack of direction in the company and more due to him just enjoying working a lot more in a GCW style setting.

It seems that way although the way they're setting things up, it could be both Sammy and Jericho getting the beat down. I want it to be Sammy because I think as a cocky, brash babyface chasing MJF around would be a fun program and really elevate him.

I genuinely don’t mean it doom and gloom or to be an ass, but I’ve just got a weird feeling. Yeah, he seems to be having the time of his life, but that often masks deeper shit. And that physical decline he’s had with the schedule he keeps? That’s not good. And just because he’s having fun doesn’t mean his family is. It’s got to be potentially embarrassing to be Chris Jericho’s kids and see him sucking in his gut with women half his age, spreading Covid, claiming he could be in AC-DC, supporting Trump so vocally, and being mocked by people seeing him for the first time in years. Sammy Guevara is currently in the dog house in AEW regarding a recent an incident he caused backstage over their current creative plans for him.

AEW originally wanted him to go to Impact as part of his current Inner Circle departure storyline but he refused and caused a big enough scene that word of it reached Impact who told AEW they didn't want him showing up at their tapings place in Nashville.

That led to AEW pulling the plans they had for him afterwards and him getting backstage heat over the big incident he caused.

Sammy Guevara is taking a break from Daily's Place, but it doesn't look like he's in the IMPACT Zone any time soon.

On the most recent episode of AEW Dynamite, Sammy Guevara told Chris Jericho he was leaving the Inner Circle faction. After he walked away from the group, he would tell Alex Marvez that he needed a break from “this place.”

Now, a new report says Sammy Guevara has upset those in AEW after a reported creative dispute regarding a potential angle that would see him go over to IMPACT Wrestling.

According to a report from Slam Wrestling, Tony Khan is upset with Sammy Guevara for voicing his complaints about his potential storyline with IMPACT. Reportedly, Chris Jericho had the idea of Sammy Guevara going over to the other promotion after he walked out of the Inner Circle faction and an idea was formulated that Tony Khan agreed to so plans were made to shoot the angle. Fightful has not independently verified the stories regarding heat with Khan.

Sammy Guevara reportedly voiced his complaints about the creative direction of the angle and when IMPACT Wrestling received word of this, they contacted Tony Khan and Chris Jericho, leading to Jericho texting Sammy Guevara to return home after he had arrived in Nashville where IMPACT has been filming their programming since the beginning of the pandemic.

While the report does not state what the plan was or what Sammy had an issue with, it is said that Chris Jericho had to reach out to Don Callis about preventing Sammy Guevara from working the IMPACT tapings.

Reportedly, AEW management is concerned that Sammy Guevara may have negatively affected the working relationship the promotion has with IMPACT. Those that Fightful have spoken to on both sides indicated that it's nothing that can't be overcome.

Fightful had heard of an issue regarding an AEW wrestler and their IMPACT creative, but the person was not identified until Sunday morning.

Based on recent interviews from current and former Impact talent, the locker room there these days is very friendly and happy. All it takes is one grouchy person to start wrecking the cheerful mood over there.

But I'm also looking from a corp/business standpoint. This whole AEW/Impact crossover in general has been weird to me. I really don't get the benefit here... I mean if AEW wanted too, they could lure away almost any of Impact's talent, and their currently broadcast platforms are MUCH bigger than Impact's. This is what REALLY escapes me.

I mean NJPW could be a reason, but imo a thin reason. This just feels like a giant bowing to an ant.

Biggest benefit AEW can get with their Impact deal is mostly from Impact's Women's division since that's more notable names and stars that could help out AEW's struggling division.

Plus Impact acting like a minor league system of sorts for them in terms of AEW sending some of their younger and lesser used talent to get them more ring work and experience. AEW's lack of a touring system and a Performance Center-like place really limits how much their talent can improve under current situations. Its why AEW has been more open than WWE when it comes to allowing talent to take outside bookings.

Turns out Sammy's incident wasn't caused behind the scenes in AEW but in Impact instead.

Same for AEW finding out afterwards what was happening and not the other way around with Impact.

Sammy Guevara was slated to work this past week's Impact Wrestling TV tapings but was pulled from the tapings, SlamWrestling.net reported. PWInsider.com has confirmed with Impact sources that the story is accurate.

The original plan was Guevara to work a short storyline at the tapings that began this past Tuesday through Thursday playing off Guevara quitting the Inner Circle. Multiple sources indicate that AEW and Impact worked out the plans but that Guevara did not fly to Nashville the day before the tapings scheduled and rescheduled himself to arrive in Nashville just a few hours before the tapings would begin.

Impact sources also indicated that although everyone had agreed to the planned ideas, Guevara began texting Impact officials about alternative ideas and "not wanting to do what was agreed to." At that point, Impact officials canceled Guevara off the tapings. Slam's story states that Guevara has heat with AEW officials over the matter and that Chris Jericho informed him to fly back home after Guevara landed in Nashville on Tuesday's afternoon.

We are told that the majority of what had been planned for Guevara saw Decay's Black Taurus utilized in that role instead.

Impact sources reiterated there was no issue with AEW at all and the relations between the two sides are "golden."

Tony is notoriously bad at running everything. Jacksonville players have lashed out at his mismanagement too. He’s considered a “clown” in football circles. That and the hilarious comments about him wanking dogs.

TK is only exalted by wrestling fans. And that’s just because he’s not Vince McMahon. In time it will become apparent how poorly he has managed AEW and the overall negative it has been for wrestling.

He’s a fucking idiot. He’s the sort of guy who studies really hard in school to get a B, people think he’s smart because they only see the end result, and then his Daddy buys companies for him to work in because no one else would hire him.

Ross mentioned a tweet he received saying his commentary from past Royal Rumbles had been taken out of a recent video package highlighting the match’s history. He said nobody should be surprised and it’s another reason why AEW is on WWE’s mind.

I'm finally watching the Japanese bracket. I get this feeling I'm gonna end up on some kind of list as a result. I'm gonna do some shit thoughts. In essence, you won't get actual names, I will use first impression names for most of them. What's a first impression name? "Steampunk Jimmy Garvin" is a first impression name for Cameron Grimes. Basically, what I call them based on my first impression of them.

*Hippie Yuna vs. Happy Fairy Lady was pretty good. I have no complaints. Happy Fairy Lady's skirt wouldn't stay down, but that kind of thing happens, I guess. Hippie Yuna won with a 450 off the middle of the top rope.

*Emi vs Veni was really good. I have watched some Ice Ribbon (maybe I was already on that list), so I know of Emi there. Veni could be AEW Women's Champion. Take that for what it's worth. But they are very impressive. A really good match, like I said. Emi with the win, as she is the veteran.

*Maki Ito vs. the Daughter of Okada and Aja Kong. Daughter looks like she could whip at least Marko Stunt in a fight. Maki had a decent little choreographed entrance. She'll get an AEW contract for three reasons: 1. she has the look Omega likes. 2. she pissed off Cornette. 3. Her knowledge of English rivals my knowledge of French. That match went too long and it was stupid. Daughter should have just wrecked her in 3 minutes. Ito doesn't have enough size to her to make her holds look believable. And I am horrified by the knowledge that, if this shit was live and not pre-taped, Ito would have went over.
*Aja Kong vs Thic Generic Joshi. Aja is Aja. I really can't say much else. Her opponent looks like she could be a full grown women's wrestler, but her face and her gear ages her down. Aja looks great, but she's been around forever. This match looked a bit like Heath Slater vs Vader, if they actually gave Heath some offense. Kong won, as she should have. TGJ was decent, but probably shouldn't have kicked out of the Backdrop Driver. That would have been a better finish than the Elbow.

Something I noticed but forgot to comment on.

During Aja Kong's entrance, you can see Shida in the background. After the match, Kong points at her and does the title belt gesture. NONE OF THIS was mentioned by Excaliber. No reference to Shida being there at all. You would think that Excaliber could have taken a few seconds away from jerking off over Maki Ito or calling a Flying Reacharound to say "AEW Women's Champion Hiraku Shida is in attendance, scouting who could possibly be her next opponent." Maybe during a lull in the action, cut away briefly to Shida watching the action in the ring. But nope.

Either he was told to only call the action or someone goofed up with the production work and she wasn't supposed to be seen which would make the Aja Kong post-match stuff even odder if so.

She did appear in a ChocoPro event recently in Japan albeit in a non-wrestling role. She was the guest ref in a tag match that featured Veny, Emi Sakura, and Mei Suruga from AEW's Women's tournament.

I'm confused about the exploding death match. Partly excited. Partly worried that this is a sign AEW is going off the rails. I just don't know how to feel about it. There certainly are some signs that AEW need a traditional booker in place that works under Tony with his influence but does the majority of the work. It's just tough to say right now. The card for Revolution reads like a TNA ppv with all the gimmicks. Maybe that's a good hook for a ppv right now I'm just not sure. Also I'm not enthralled by Kenny as champ. His reign has been my least favorite era for AEW thus far. But still there is a curious part of me marking out for the Barbed Wire Exploding Death Match. I loved their lights out match.

Kenny's character work with Callis has been super entertaining. He's only had one title match so far that was a fucking banger, so no complaints from me.

I like the Revolution card so far. We're getting a pay off to a nearly year long feudbetween Darby and Taz, the face of the revolution match sounds fun and hopefully pushes Scorpio Sky into a weekly tv role again.

Moxley and Omega match is a little silly, but a brutal match between the two to likely end their trilogy also makes sense.

I do wish Santana and Ortiz beat the Bucks. Could've put the titles on them, havethem defend at Revolution against MJF acc Jericho and turn MJF on Jericho that night.

Shida has had a good run of matches but no interesting story. I'm hoping Baker wins out in the tournament and gets the title. But a tourney to determine a number 1 contender after a Shida has beaten pretty much everyone is fine.

I totally would've loved to see that, and I actually think something like that might be how it eventually goes down anyway, but yeah, could've been a big moment for Revolution.

Yeah that's been a bit of a problem with some of their long storylines, especially during this coronavirus pandemic era.

Like with the current Sting/Darby vs. Team Taz and Cody vs. Shaq/Jade storylines, they started those feuds way too early for the material they had planned out.

Then you have other notable stuff that got stretched a bit too long like the Omega & Hangman breakup angle because AEW wanted to be able to do it when things returned to normal with the pandemic.

Yeah that would help out a lot.

Even hiring just a writer to help out would fix some of their creative issues for storylines and lessen the weekly workload.

Based on the stories of how AEW's creative process works, its pretty much like early era NXT but without the advantage of a monthly taping schedule, longer weekly shows, and a much larger roster to deal with. NXT's solution to those issues since the move to USA Network has been to just keep bloating their creative team which hasn't been effective in fixing the sluggish interest in their brand.

Yeah its been mostly him writing the scripts and putting together the shows with input from wrestlers and others.

QT Marshall and a couple others help with the writing but not all the time. Think Marshall mostly helps whenever he's not busy with his wrestling school or other stuff.

FTR had an interview recently where they broke down the differences between Vince and Tony Khan's mentality when it comes to writing shows and Khan is a lot more receptive to ideas and help from talent for his shows.

But AEW isn't perfect, there does seem to be some issues that definitely start at the top. From the beginning there were many questionable hires and pushes. But when it's hot it's hot. Thinking back, I can't name a perfect product. There have been times for AEW that were close to it for me though. I think one of my biggest issues isn't AEW exclusive but an issue pervading contemporary Wrestling as a whole. The PWG influence. That style while awesome at times kind of rui s everything about working a classic match. It's the equivalent of dropping nuclear bombs constantly. The over use of strikes that should end a match or knock someone out, the poor use of those strikes that never connect at all. The logicless high flying tope's and the like that offensively make no sense at all. The over use of combo spots that leave no room for selling or storytelling beyond "GASP HOLY SHIT". It's amazing to go back to older shows and watch how a wrestler used to work holds and strikes in a way that had actual results.

Agreed on all of this. For me, there have been meh episodes of Dynamite but I don't ever feel like it was a total time waste. And instances of multiple meh episodes in a row has been few and far between. The worst period for me was probably those 5-6 weeks they rushed to film in one weekend in QT Marshall's gym which started OK but got old fast, but in fairness it was a skeleton crew as that was right as COVID popped off in the US and basically everyone was home.

But the very real prospect of a great show is enough to keep me going, and even the so-so episodes usually have a banger of a match somewhere in there. I find way much more enjoyable about the product than not.

But nah not being 100% sold on everything AEW does = "cracks showing, people coming around on AEW" :roll:

More details regarding the creative issues between AEW/Impact and Sammy Guevara.

Following his on-screen departure from the Inner Circle on Dynamite, the AEW standout arrived in Nashville, TN, to work the February 9-11 Impact tapings to begin an angle. However, that didn't happen due to a disgreement about what he would be doing.

What happened regarding that situation is still unclear depending on what side is telling the story. Bryan Alvarez discussed the situation on Friday's Wrestling Observer Live with some information from people close to Guevara.

One story Meltzer could not confirm in the newsletter was that Guevara was set to be part of a six man tag on this Tuesday's show where the winning team would move on to a three way match for an X-Division title shot. That match would have paired him with Ace Austin and Chris Bey against Willie Mack, Josh Alexander and Trey Miguel. Austin and Bey will team with Black Taurus instead.

Alvarez's sources said they indeed wanted Guevara to be in tag matches. However, Guevara didn't think that made sense because one of the points of leaving The Inner Circle was to go out on his own.

According to Meltzer's sources, Guevara reportedly suggested winning the X-Division title before returning to AEW with it. He would never lose the title and it would then be stripped at some point and put up for grabs in a tournament.

Alvarez's sources said Guevara did have an idea about winning the title, but it didn't involve not losing the title or taking it to AEW. At that point, Impact wasn't wasn't going for any of his ideas and it was a "their way or the highway" type situation.

Meltzer reported that Guevara was going to win three matches at the tapings, adding that Chris Jericho and Don Callis came up with the initial angle and whatever happened made them look bad. Guevara was only scheduled for that set of tapings.

Alvarez's sources said he was never going to win three matches. The idea was that he would lose some matches and get beaten down, eventually winning and then get beaten down again.

Meltzer said, "Impact was really mad about AEW sending talent over, putting plans in place and then the talent wouldn’t do what was planned. Everything appears to be smoothed over now, but there are those in Impact who said that the company was not happy at first with how it went down and could have impacted relationships."

Alvarez's sources said Guevara called someone in AEW (he presumed Tony Khan) to discuss what was happening and expressed his opinions about the situation.

If the stuff about Sammy wanted to win the X-Division belt is true, then I can see why Impact was upset since that would have messed up their current plans for the belt and possibly the direction of Trey Miguel's push.

I do miss proper crowds though. One year ago today was probably the best episode of Dynamite to date (well, except the Brodie tribute ep but that was for sentimental reasons). Great stuff all around and the crowd was red hot.

If I had to guess, AEW probably going to give Nyla a proper reign this time since her first reign got messed up badly due to the coronavirus pandemic. Do agree that they should have built her up a lot better if that is going to be the case.

The other option would have been to just let Nyla keep the belt once they were able to resume running regularly post-Georgia tapings but they decided to not delay their plans for a Shida title reign. Sort of like what happened with Naito's title reign and EVIL last year in NJPW.

Yeah there is almost no real long term direction with the division. Its had it moments here and there of showing signs of potential greatness but AEW's made the road to getting to it being consistently good way harder than it should be.

All it takes is one injury or for something to go wrong for whatever plans they have to get quickly derailed.

Thunder Rosa getting the title was always going to be a long shot since she's not actually signed to the company and her NWA stuff takes precedence. MJF was in a similar situation when he was under contract with MLW where AEW held off on any real big pushes for him until after his MLW deal expired so his AEW deal would take precedence instead.

See, the stuff with holding off on Thunder Rosa is fine. But why they pushing Baker to the moon? They made a big dealof her signing and tried to push her hard as face, she made an awesome heel turn and ran with it and her in ring work has only been getting better. Just give her the belt and built the division around her like they seemingly planned.

Had she not gotten hurt last year, she was on track to take the belt from Shida but whatever plans they had for her and the division went up in smoke afterwards. Wasn't until very recently that AEW felt comfortable enough with her recovery and the easing of her back into ring shape.

Didn't help that around the same time she got hurt, they also lost Kris Statlander to injury who was in line for a big push and be involved in a potential major feud with Baker for the latter half of the year.

USA Network finally has something for Wednesdays that typically generates better ratings and ad money than WWE programming so whatever leverage WWE had for that day went up in smoke after NBC made the announcement.

Can't really move NXT to Thursdays or else they'd run into a similar situation as RAW with NFL competition during the later half of the year. They still are going to get hurt by NBA competition but that's usually the lesser of the two evils for WWE. AEW already has shown they can compete well against NBA games so the same should be possible for NXT on Tuesdays assuming they can boost their key demo and younger viewership to much higher levels.

Wouldn’t generate higher ratings than wrestling, but I’m sure advertisers respect hockey fans more than wrestling fans. WWE isn’t moving NXT away from Wednesday nights willingly — it was doing its job just fine. They didn’t even try using someone like AJ Styles or Daniel Bryan down there if it were about ratings.

I'm not CRAZY about the "Horseman" revivals we seem to have happening just because they probably won't be able to use that trademark. We've seen that a bunch throughout history with Evolution and the TNA version that I can't remember the name for. JJ couldn't even get into the ring so I can't see him sticking around. In that case Tully can stay the manager and they can get a big name to play lead. I don't k ow if Spears is the right guy.
