I still don’t get why Matt Hardy is magically a babyface after being an asshole for so long. They knew Jeff was coming in for 90 days. Have him reveal that he was doubting himself and trying to move into managing to rest his body, but he does think there’s a big money run in himself. He’s letting all his teams go because he wants to be honest and admit that he can no longer have their interests at heart. Or something.

I hate it when wrestlers change their entire demeanour like they woke up for breakfast and just had an entire personality change overnight. It’s especially awful when it’s a heel who becomes a face just because another asshole beat them up. They did this with Seth Rollins when he first turned back face because Triple H wouldn’t coddle him anymore.

Tony really pisses me off. There is a handful of guys who he's brought in who could have immediately been launched into major programs or even World Championship situations. Here are a few of my gripes...

Andrade
This guys has it all, but he's also carrying absolutely zero momentum due to a completely unlogical and uninspired storylines. He was released from WWE and immediately signed and seemed to get quite a reaction upon arrival. He was really the first to jump ship in the big time war between WWE and AEW so he had that heat at the time. Why turn him heel? Why not actually have a big time Latino main eventer babyface? Sure it wasn't in the plans but work it in, the Hangman story was jarred off course anyway and we all knew it.

Malakai Black

Malakai could easily turn it around by simply being placed into a major story but he's cutting promo's on Feugo. This is the same exact thing as Andrade except in some ways he may have been an even bigger catch because he had recently been featured and talked about a bit on WWE...

They could have matched him with literally any major star in AEW for a program and instead they paired him with the on again off again Codester for a program that went on so long hot and cold nobody gave a shit.

His House of Black alliance is awesome and should be a big fucking deal wrecking ass on TV all the time instead I can't even remember anything they've ever done.

Miro

Where the fuck is Miro? Look I don't really like him that much I find his matches to really top out at around the 3 1/2 star level if you know what I mean. But still he's a great character, what the fuck is going on? He should be doing something big.

Sammy Guevara

Is getting go away heat from me. He's been overhyped and over pushed. Why push him when you have Andrade? Seriously, if you're going to push one Latino star, why would you not chose Andrade? FFS. Obviously you can and should have more than one but you get me.

Keith Lee

Keith should have signed with AEW from the beginning. But he didn't and he got a bit older and probably injured and all that stuff and now we have a broken Keith Lee. Sure he can still "go" but he's slower and mentally he lacks any real edge as a character. His promo is terrible. He could have been brought in, in a way like Vader in Japan. He could have destroyed Adam Page and TOOK the World Championship on day 1. That would have been interesting. Instead he's cutting bad promo's and tagging with Swerve who I love but they aren't really featured in a major way. It's just a placement angle for both of them.

I see value in Keith Lee if he's essentially booked like Vader, but otherwise I'm not interested, and clearly they aren't going to book him like Vader.

Jay Lethal

I can tell he's going to be a focus in ROH and he's been getting better spots on AEW lately so I can't really complain.

Jeff and Matt Hardy

If Tony is able to get some kind of TV deals or some kind of liscensing based off the Hardys then ok that's good. But really this whole deal is such a shit idea. We have enough old timers at this point and Jeff and Matt really bring nothing to the... table.

I enjoy their crazy bumps but also I feel them in some ways as well. It's painful to watch Jeff bump these days and Matt is too crazy to say no. I hope this run for Matt is brief and that Jeff is protected going forward.

I haven't bought a Madden in like 4 years and I think the last one I got before that was 3 years prior. And I used to be someone that caved and got it every year even though it was just a fresh coat of paint.

I made a tongue-in-cheek card for the AEW/New Japan show, but for those who want it, here’s my real attempt at fantasy booking it:



* The main event is Kazuchika Okada vs. Bryan Danielson. I see no better option. Danielson is the best wrestler in AEW. Okada is the IWGP World Champion. You can have vignettes explaining who Okada is and why he’s so special. Regal can try and talk Danielson out of the match, because he doesn’t think Bryan can beat him and doesn’t want to see what it will do to his psyche. “You just told him what he needed to hear, right?” - Mox. But we don’t know. “I need to beat you, Okada. I need to beat you for any of this to matter to me.”

* I thought Tanahashi was still the US Champion. Oh well. Maybe there’s a tournament final and Tanahashi and Mox are the finalists. I think they’ve been teasing this match for a while, and it fits the drama of the World Title program if Mox walks away with the US Title earlier in the show.

* FTR defeat Tama Tonga & Tonga Loa to win the IWGP Tag Team Titles. I realize GoD aren’t currently champions, but I think it fits the overall context of the show better if they get them back for this. This match actually starts hot off the back of the previous match, which is…

* CM Punk defending the AEW World Championship against Jay White. Punk wins the belt from Page at Double or Nothing, who refuses to accept Punk’s hand and walks out on the company for a bit. White emerges as a challenger from New Japan who compares himself to Punk and said New Japan Pro-Wrestling made him a fan, and unlike Punk he didn’t run away to join the circus and then complain about it. White says he only agreed to work the show if he got the AEW World Title match and it wasn’t the main event, because he doesn’t see it as a main event title. And when he wins it, he’s going to take it back to Japan and make people come to him to challenge for it. He’ll do what Punk never actually did. Punk wins, but The Bullet Club beat down Punk afterwards, with KENTA hitting a GTS. FTR try and make the save. Wardlow comes down as a difference maker. White absconds with the physical AEW belt.

* LIJ defeat the Jericho Appreciation Society. Bushi is scheduled for the match, but is injured by the JAS on Dynamite or Rampage the week before. Naito needs a fifth guy to team with him, Shingo, Sanada and Takahashi. Enter Andrade. It may not seem like the best way to spotlight Shingo, but he gets the pin on Jericho here. Hager’s wife comes out as the Jericho Appreciation Bunny too.

* Kota Ibushi defeats Adam Cole. After the match, Cole goes to offer his hand to Ibushi, who accepts and gets low-blowed. This leads to the return of Kenny Omega, who dumps out Cole, milks being in the ring with Ibushi and embraces him.

* Will Ospreay defeats PAC. I had this for the NEVER Openweight Championship in my head for some reason. Hey, maybe PAC can go to Japan early and win it from EVIL and put it up against Ospreay?

* Hirooki Goto defeats Lance Archer. I guess Archer means something over there, and Goto is a guy that I think they’d like to get more out of if they could. So I put him over Archer here to give him something.

* Miro defends his TNT Title (which he wins back from Sammy ASAP) against Jeff Cobb. Just two bulls going at it. Cobb wins the belt here, but he doesn’t need to hold it long. Miro brings out his hot wife with him and frames this as USA vs. Japan. “God’s country, God’s Champion.” Just OTT presentation for Miro who loses.

* The House of Torture defeat The Gunn Club to retain the Six-Man Championship. Who would think Billy Gunn would be one of the best things about wrestling in 2022? Actually, I’m going to make this version of The Gunn Club Austin, Colt and…Christian Cage. Billy Gunn can beg, beg, beg Christian to be the mentor for his team. Maybe Billy can’t pass their piss test? I dunno. I’d like to see Christian leading The Ass Boys for a bit.

* The Young Bucks defeat reDRagon and two New Japan junior tag teams. Maybe Flying Tiger and Six or Nine, but whatever. This is just a popcorn match in that style. The Bucks win the belts here just so they don’t whine too much about being so low on the card. But this is their New Japan spot.

* El Desperado defends the Junior Heavyweight Title against two guys in a three-way match. I’m thinking Taiji Ishimori or El Phantasmo and Rey Fenix, if New Japan aren’t opposed to a AAA guy working the show.

* A New Japan Rumble either on the pre-show or to start off the card proper. This is where you put Suzuki, ZSJ, Taka Michinoku, Ishii, Great O-Khan, Toru Yano, Togi Makabe, Yuji Nagata, Kojima, etc. from Japan. Samoa Joe, The Hardys, etc. from AEW. Maybe a surprise appearance from MJF who initially says he’s not going to compete for some Japanese indy. Samoa Joe wins and challenges Okada afterwards.

Just some amendments:



* I move the Tag Title match earlier and make it Dangerous Tekkers as champs to go against FTR. I forgot about them for a bit. I was half asleep when I came up with this this morning. And then I just put Jay White over proper in the AEW Title match. I think it would be more interesting than Punk retaining. White leaves with the belt ala Punk in 2011. Punk can then cut promos about how he may have let the company down but he’s not going to take his ball and go home like a certain Page. Builds to future Punk/Page matches as well as a return match with White.

* If you do the AEW Title change, that should be the penultimate match. Ibushi/Cole can go before that and the US Title match before that as the “big four” matches. Then you go down to JAS/LIJ, Tag Titles, Pac/Ospreay, Goto/Archer, Six-Man, Miro/Cobb, Jr. Tag, Jr. Heavyweight, Forbidden Rumble.

* To balance out the win/loss side of things between the companies, I probably have Christian & The Gunns win the six-man belts. Billy can be their cheerleader. As for what that means for Christian and the Jurassic Express — Christian can play both sides and eventually he has to choose between the two. He turns on Jungle Boy and starts a singles feud there.

* I’m going to try and come up with 30 guys for Forbidden Rumble. Samoa Joe, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, MJF, Wardlow, Jungle Boy, Will Hobbs, Jay Lethal, Ricky Starks, Pentagon, Jr., Keith Lee, Dante Martin, Swerve Stickland, Trent Beretta, Rocky Romero, Minoru Suzuki, Tomohiro Ishii, Yuji Nagata, Togi Makabe, Toru Yano, Yoh, Yujiro Takahashi, Satoshi Kojima, Juice Robinson, David Finlay, Chase Owens, Josh Barnett, Fred Rosser, Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa. I think that makes a pretty good selection.

* I’d probably have the end stretch come down to Samoa Joe and Josh Barnett standing off with GoD. Barnett is eliminated and Joe has to go through the Tongan boys to win. You can sub Barnett for someone like Hobbs or even Starks too. Actually, probably Wardlow. I’d probably have Starks be the marathon man and have Joe eliminate the most people to win. MJF gets tossed by a Japanese veteran. Maybe Nagata? Starks makes it right up to the end and wants to team with GoD to get rid of Joe, but they toss him, which hopefully gets some heat if he’s in there from the start. Wardlow can survive an attempted elimination, but Starks can pull him down off the apron or something to spin that off. Joe ends up with either Tama or Loa and puts their ass to sleep before tossing them out and standing tall.

* Add Tom Lawlor vs. Clark Connors to the pre-show for the NJPW Strong Openweight Championship. Connors can win the belt there to kick things off.

Opinion - Britt Baker should have never been uncrowned as champion!

Britt Baker losing the AEW Women's Championship is a huge deflation to that title! Even though a lot of people cheer for Thunder Rosa, she isn't charismatic enough to carry the main title as well as Britt Baker! If they had better challengers for Baker, she could have been a very successful long term champion in the same way that Roman is for WWE.

I think that AEW has some potential stars in their women's locker room but Baker is the only absolute star currently. Now, it's fine for her that she's doing the Owen tournament, and likely headed in Jade Cargill's direction, but it's obvious if she takes that belt, that the TBS Championship will be the top belt in the company for women.

In my opinion the only person other than Baker that should have the belt around their waste is Shida, and she has a huge deflation in momentum but being a very long term champion herself, and a great worker and decent character she meets my qualifications to carry the big one. But only those two.

Everyone else in the ladies room at AEW need a bit of rounding out to get to any real star level. Baker has the fans in the palm of her hand and Shida is beloved by the AEW faithful.

If AEW builds to Jade and DMD, it will certainly turn Britt babyface. I'd like to see DMD lose her first bout with Jade, thus building Jade even more before eventually getting her comeuppance.

I really wish AEW had Jordynne Grace though, that's the one they really need IMO.

I had to turn off Suzuki/Danielson. I’ve enjoyed Suzuki in the past, but that whole approach to pro-wrestling is just wrong. I’m fine with Suzuki being in some sort of Rumble at Forbidden Door. That’s what I’d do if I was booking. He’s over enough to justify a spot and encourage you to care, but I don’t want to see spotlight on him for more than a total of a few minutes.

You mentioned MJF. I’d have MJF talk shit about New Japan heading into the show. Christian Cage ends up vacating his AEW spot in the aforementioned Rumble to team with The Gunn Club. This allows MJF to worm into the Rumble. He can eliminate one or two guys (Toru Yano and Togi Makabe maybe?), but then he gets the shit beaten out of him by Yuji Nagata and tossed.

The problem for Britt is she ran out of faces to beat, Rosa included. She did everything there was to do as champ and the run in dirty finishes ran their course. Refresh the belt with someone new until hopefully Serena Deeb is positioned to be the next heel.

Britt also likely has a breakup feud with Hayder coming up at some point.

The belt has certainly taken a hit since Baker is not the champ. That being said, I think Rosa had to win. The best way around it would probably have been to keep Rosa and Britt involved. I was just thinking about how superior a wrestler Bryan Danielson is compared to CM Punk. They're not even in the same league. Even in WWE, he was overshadowed by superstars like John Cena who is arguably a better fit and representative for the company.

You're misunderstanding.

John Cena has had great matches with all the wrestlers you've mentioned. Doesn't make him a great in-ring competitor. I'd argue Cena's better at in-ring storytelling when compared to Punk.

Those are all fair points. Not everything is black and white.

Punk came across as a very jealous and bitter individual in the DVD. He belittled Miz who paid his dues and overcame the toxic work culture to main event WrestleMania before him. He was arguably a bigger superstar than him at the time. Besides that, his view points on people who don't have tattoos and shunning the use of modern medicine while recovering from a concussion were asinine. Not to mention he was gloating about it too. Also he thought fried chicken was a good source of protein.

But you are leaving out the truth as told by Punk himself, that he is SOOOOOOOOO good and Vince and FEDBAD never even gave him a chance! All these marquee matches you are talking about, Vince never even wanted Punk in them, evil Vince totally held him back!!!

Stardom is the most effeciently booked promotion today. Sounds wild, but its true. Three of their top stars retired (one of which doubled as their head trainer), then you had the Hana Kimura tragedy happen, and shortly after that the pandemic. I literally thought they were going to go out of business. But by effectively elevating their younger talent, and bringing in new talent that fits in well with the existing roster, they've not only survived, they have thrived, and are more popular than they've ever been.

There will always be a contingent of the IWC that overrates japanese wrestling. Thats never going to go away. But Stardom deserves the hype its been getting.

Also removed though was Stu Grayson. One of my few gripes with the company was Grayson not getting to wrestle enough and, it seems he might’ve agreed. Damn.
