That's been the reason why Diamante has been doing singles matches in recent weeks.

Ivelisse hasn’t been used of late. A fan asked her about it and she said that if only she could speak. She was on a per event deal and not a full-time contract. She had been teaming with Diamante but Diamante has been working as a single of late. The story was there was an issue with her and “a few” coaches and she’s not being booked right now, but it’s not like she’s been let go either at this point

That part of the rumor about why that match quickly fell apart got debunked afterwards.

Supposedly AEW wanted their match to be a bit more physical than usual for a AEW women's match to tap into Rosa's MMA background. Problem was that whole plan quickly fell apart after Rosa accidentally went a bit too stiff on a spot or two leading to Ivelisse getting quickly pissed off and her bad rep of being a hothead and pain to deal with being displayed for all to see.

I'm surprised she's lasted this long in AEW since even in Lucha Underground she was supposedly a pain to deal with and they only held tapings a few times per year.

I read initially the point of this show was to give the younger talent a chance to work in front of a proper live paying crowd. The one that is really throwing me is Cody vs Solo. They could've out Cody with a younger opponent and given someone a real opportunity to learn. Either way this card is what it is. If I lived in Jacksonville I'd probably skip it. Dynamite cards are a lot better.

A wolf crying wolf is literally how they communicate. They don't do it to deceive others but to let others know that they're a wolf. Another creature or boy crying wolf is not how that animal communicates and is only done to deceive others into thinking that it's a wolf.

I'm ripping this from the F4O forum, from a poster named FinePlum. Interesting stats about AEW lately.

I'll go to the clickbait stat first to get it out of the way (And which I've added the last). I'll leave it without comments:

Number of unique people in matches (excl. valets/managers/bodyguards/lumberjacks) in Q1 2021:

AEW (Dynamite - 2h per week): 92 people
WWE (Raw+Smackdown - 5h per week): 78 people

Now, my main goal was to compare AEW booking vs the same period one year ago, so I've taken Q1 2020 vs Q1 2021.
The idea came from the last week ratings discussion. So that's when I started digging. Then Dave had mentioned the person who started counting people on last Dynamite and that number was ridiculed by some. Initially, I've counted only wrestlers only participating in matches. Later on I've added "valets..." separately.

Yesterday on WOL Bryan said that he doesn't think that the booking has changed vs a year ago. Well, numbers seem to disagree:

Dynamite Q1 2020 - Q1 2021

Number of unique people in matches (excl. valets): 62 - 92 (48% growth)
Average number of valets/managers/lumberjacks per match: 0.84 - 1.25 (49% growth)
Number of matches per episode: 4.8 - 5.8
Average match length: 11:06 - 9:46

The latter two stats are more trivia.

Lastly, the reason it took me so long is because I wanted to compare the focus time on each wrestler. And I am sorry that it took me this long because there were several topics popping up on AEW booking and now I've added yet another one.

Focus time is how much time is devoted to a certain wrestler in a match. For example, a match between two wrestlers lasting 10 minutes will have focus time of 10 minutes per each of wrestler.

Every next wrestler added to the match bites some part of that time, because I don't believe being featured in 1-on-1 match for 10 minutes and featured in Battle Royal for 10 minutes have the same exposure and connection with the audience. So, focus time = match length / (number of wrestlers / 2). For example, 6 man tag of 21 minutes will have a focus time of 7 minutes per wrestler.

Kenny Omega and Moxley lost almost 50% of their focus time, being feature in multiple multimen matches
Sammy Guevara has lost the most: last year he was #3, now he is #70
Jungle Boy is featured less than he was a year ago
Adam Page is featured less than he was a year ago
Karl Anderson is tied #20 with Doc Gallows and they are not even AEW talent
Conclusions? I think it proves the general feeling that AEWs booking is less focused now with less focus on the top stars. I didn't compare amount of post-match beatdowns, but I guess this year is far ahead in that regard as well.

Women's division itself went from being mostly an afterthought last year to something that has been gaining a lot of steam ever since the Women's title tournament.

The problem with the women's division is that they have a few potential stars, Britt, Conti, Cargill, and the other blonde that is injured right now (just forgot her name). But they keep pushing Shida, Rose, and other Joshi talent. They have the potential to have a small solid division but they water it down with people who are so WWE Diva's search that it makes me lose interest real quick.

Toss in Serena Deep and Thunder Rosa and they have enough to get through a season of programs until they can get a deal with Tessa and Grayce, whom they desperately need.

You are very correct Destor. AEW is very much like ECW in the sense their core audience thinks all of the roster is huge stars based on the their perception of said wrestlers inside that small bubble.

If they had a bunch of stars, they wouldn't keep bringing in WWE castoffs to try and gain attention. They wouldn't need to run 72 wrestlers out on a 2 hour show. They wouldn't need to partner with Impact or New Japan despite having WCW levels of contracted wrestlers on the payroll. They wouldn't have stopped growing the audience.

None of their let's call them original talent are stars. Putting a bunch of old retired wrestlers with them does not make them stars.

The Elite themselves, are any of them really stars?
Cody booked himself out of the title scene, and seems far more interested in reality TV and behind the scenes while keeping himself just relevant enough to keep getting outside offers.
The Young Bucks feel like they are only winning because they are in charge, moreso than any other wrestler I can think of, including HHH.
Kenny Omega has been an utter failure since leaving New Japan. His title run has been garbage, his best 2 matches have been losses, and he is working a midcard faction gimmick based on something from like 5 years ago.
Adam Page has shown flashes, but they seem more interested in him being a comedy gimmick then actually pushing him.

The WWE guys have all flopped with the exception of the early 3, Jericho, Moxley, and Pac, and even with their success in AEW, Jericho is really the only actual star of the 3. Nobody outside of the established fan base knows Mox or Pac at all, and we saw the bad reaction to Jericho after that NBA game lead in.

Their biggest star power comes from the announcers table, and Sting. The so called casual lapsed fans from 20 years ago aren't going to say "Wow Sting is back, I have to watch". They are going to say "What, that dude still wrestles? WHY???"

I rally against the overbearing fandom far more than I do the actual product, but the actual product is a clusterfuck at best, and at worst it feels like an overhyped TNA with a bigger budget and a larger sense of unearned smugness.

Britt Baker is the Female Kenny Omega. That is not a compliment. Because both wrestle at the level of their opponent. Give them a good opponent (Thunder Rosa, Okada), and they look amazing. Give them a terrible opponent (Big Swole, most of his AEW opponents) and their flaws are very apparent. Britt's talked about for 2 reasons: 1. She bled a lot and 2. She was in a great match with one of the best women's wrestlers in the world.

Well "Great in the ring" could be considered a subjective opinion. For me she comes off like a skilled worker, usually her matches have a struggle to them that comes off more realistic than most women's matches in AEW which are more focused on hitting the choreography that's been planned out. Baker seems to tell a story more and present a more realistic approach to "her moves" in the ring.

Based on tweets from her and responses by others in the company, the main issue seems to revolve around backstage issues and resentment she was still having with Thunder Rosa ever since their infamous match. Also her beef with Rosa wasn't new and instead dates back to their time together in Lucha Underground.

My secondary point (and I think Destor’s point) is that there’s a huge difference between the star power of those guys and some people the existing AEW audience enjoys. A star is someone who draws people to the product. Not someone who is just enjoyed by the existing audience. If any of those people quit tomorrow, it wouldn’t matter.

Yeah I'd like to read more but ultimatly I don't really care about what she has a problem with. She seems like trouble based on her past.

Last night at Dynamite was great, but it was also a great investigation into the biggest flaw on Tony's booking. Complete over booking due to many stables and massive roster. The inner circle/Pinnacle stuff was an example of how it can work and make sense and progress the story. The Dark Order/Archer/Sting/Scorpio/Page getting involved in Darby and Hardy also made SOME sens, but ultimately was definitely too much. Did it hurt the match? No it didn't. But it was a weak excuse to further whatever storyline the are pushing for Archer and Sting. They need to make time for Archer, he should be considered a major star in the making not a side player working his way up.

I definitely was feeling some Russo era WCW vibes during these large clusters. Not that I hated them, it's still refreshing from WWE, but we know where Russo style booking took WCW.

Another complaint I have is the lack of selling from The Bucks and Fenix. They do so many cool moves and yet they don't matter for as soon as they've happened. They move into the next sequence immediately. Combos combos combos. They do some of the sickest spots you've never seen (and a lot that you have) and nobody sells anything. They just pop up and transition into the next killer spot. This sucks that The Bucks are EVP'S be at nobody is going to force them to change. They keep treating every match like a PWG show. It's very frustrating because obviously they could be so much better than what we get if they would just take the advice of every veteran who's made money in the buisness and just slowwww dowwwwwn.

Apparently AEW tested out the idea of doing intermissions for their shows at their non-televised house show event last week.

Tony Khan stated that if the idea gets enough support from fans, he'd considering doing it for AEW PPVs.

Appearing on Busted Open Radio, AEW President Tony Khan was a big of what the company was able to accomplish with the house show and said it will be distributed to fans in the future, though he didn't have a means of distribution just yet.

When discussing the success of the house show, he brought up the idea of doing an intermission and how it worked at The House Always Wins as it allowed fans to take a break. The intermission took place after Cody Rhodes' street fight with Aaron Solow and the event returned with Max Caster cutting a rap promo on Orange Cassidy to set up a six-man tag bout.

Khan went on to say that he believes an intermission could work at pay-per-view events, saying, "We have great [video packages] and we could do that. Also, a [countdown] clock. If you watch the Road To or the countdown, you might've seen them, but that's even better. They are part of the pay-per-view, putting some [video packages] up. I think it's a good idea. If [Busted Open hosts Tommy Dreamer and Dave LaGreca] like it, that makes me feel a little better. Maybe it's a good idea. If the fans like it, then maybe it's a good idea."

In over the top fashion, I mentioned this being a not-so-great idea as AEW pay-per-views are already four hours long and don't begin until 8 p.m. ET on a Sunday. Another user agreed.

Come up to Canada

From what I’ve learned spending the past few years in Canada, everyone likes hockey to some extent and the percentage of people who like or have liked wrestling on some level is oddly high. So I’d say pretty much any Canadian who still watches wrestling would have a decision to make if there’s a hockey game at the same time.

Seems ESPN taking away the more valuable of the two NHL contracts in terms of Stanley Cup airings was a key reason why NBC eventually pulled out from the negotiations and opened the door for Turner to step in.

Bret was always the most popular across the pond as they say. That was where he was always considered that beloved hero. When he turned heel Canada kind of got wrapped up in his lore of popularity in Europe, and wrestling fans in Canada were happy to be a part of that lore.

I think Stu was far more beloved in Canada, and Bret was just another one of Stu's kids, albeit the most successful one.

According to Chris Jericho, AEW's version of WarGames won't be exactly the same as the classic one from NWA/WCW due to venue-related reasons but it also won't be a "bastardized" version like WWE's NXT War Games have been.

In an interview with The New York Post, Chris Jericho talked about the differences between AEW's version of WarGames and the WCW and WWE versions of the match. "Our apparatus, if you will, is different. We are putting it in Daily’s Place so there were some configurations you kind of had to switch around a bit just out of space restrictions, which kind of adds to the originality of our match and our structure. If you watched WarGames back in 1992, it’s a little different from that and if you saw kind of WWE’s bastardized version, it’s different from that. We kind of have a little bit of a different thing. Some of it is by design, some of it is from necessity."

The reality is this is what we're heading to nationwide. Even the blue states are upping stadium capacity, in some cases having "full vaccinated" sections with 100% capacity.

Of course Texas will be the wild west and everyone can sit everywhere regardless of vaccine status but it was inevitable we'd get to the point of "if you're fully vaccinated and still don't feel comfortable living your life, that's your problem"

According to Voices of Wrestling, Ricky Starks will be out of action for AEW for the next 3 months due to a fractured neck injury from his match against Hangman Page last month.

NWA is having a really interesting match take place on a future show and it involves Thunder Rosa's future in AEW.

If she loses her upcoming match against Kamile, then she won't be allowed to wrestling on any non-NWA shows for the foreseeable future.

On the May 11 episode of NWA SuperPowerrr, Kamille and Thunder Rosa came face-to-face with Kamille laying out the terms for a potential rematch. Kamille defeated Rosa at NWA Back For The Attack to become the number one contender for the NWA Women's Title.

Rosa wanted a rematch with the Kamille putting her number one contendership on the line. Kamille stipulated that if Rosa lost, she couldn't work in other promotions and could only work for NWA. Rosa agreed to the match.

It is unknown when the bout will take place.

AT&T and Discovery officially confirmed reports of them merging their entertainment divisions together into a new company.

AT&T is the parent company of WarnerMedia who is the parent company of TNT.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, AT&T was originally in talks for a merger deal with NBCU which would have resulted in both WWE and AEW being under the same umbrella but those talks went nowhere in the end. Right now AEW and Vice's Dark Side of the Ring series will be under the same umbrella with the potential of MLW joining them in the future based on the rumored talks they've had with Discovery.

AT&T and Discovery Inc. officially announced their merger of their entertainment assets during a press conference earlier today.

The new company, which hasn't been given a new name nor has a management structure, will be led by Discovery CEO David Zaslav.

Under the terms of the agreement, which is structured as an all-stock transaction, AT&T would receive $43 billion in a combination of cash, debt securities, and WarnerMedia’s retention of certain debt, and AT&T’s shareholders would receive stock representing 71% of the new company; Discovery shareholders would own 29% of the new company.

The transaction is anticipated to close in mid-2022, subject to approval by Discovery shareholders and regulators.

Bloomberg reported over the weekend that Warnermedia has been in talks with Discovery Inc. about merging it's media entertainment assets, which includes TNT. A deal could be announced as soon as today with some reports believing that Warner is looking to spin off HBO and other assets. Warnermedia broadcasts AEW on TNT every week. Discovery owns Discovery+, which had been in early talks with MLW and carries Dark Side of the Ring.

The Hollywood Reporter has a major speculatory breakdown of the potential ripple effects of the deal at this link. Interesting to note that they stated the initial belief was that NBCU would have ended up with Warnermedia, which would have meant they would have had both WWE and AEW under their umbrella, which could have been quite the interesting twist for well, everyone, in pro wrestling.

According to PWI, next week's episode of Dynamite is going to air starting at 10:30PM EST on TNT due to NBA Playoffs coverage on the network.

In an interesting note, those in Canada will be able to watch the show 30 minutes earlier since its starting at 10PM EST on TSN 2.

In regards to the upcoming Double or Nothing Countdown special on TNT, that's currently scheduled to air starting at 7PM EST on May 29th.

PWInsider reports that next week’s Dynamite show will now be airing on Friday, May 28 at 10:30 pm EST due to the TNT NBA coverage on Wednesday, May 26.

The 10:30 pm airtime means the show won’t be going up against WWE SmackDown on FOX, which airs at 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm EST. This will be AEW’s go-home show before Double or Nothing 2021. Additionally, the show will be airing in Canada that evening on TSN 2 at 10:00 pm EST ...

Meanwhile, TNT will air a Countdown to Double or Nothing show on Saturday, May 29 at 7:00 pm EST.

Yeah it's a little ridiculous to make constant excuses. How about blame the fact that there was nothing interesting booked for the show? I didn't watch this week and it doesn't sound like I missed anything at all.

They gotta up the ratio of must see episodes of Dynamite. It confuses me how they have Christian working programs that mean absolutely nothing and Big Show tucked away on YouTube. Get it together. There is a good amount of great talent and interesting characters but they aren't always using them in a way that is drawing me in. Part of it also is Kenny, he's very hit or miss. I don't feel like he is a major star at this point. They probably shouldn't have tucked him away in a tag team for nearly a year.

I don't care about the demos personally, it's the total viewers that gets me intrigued. Though I'm glad they do well in their demo because that's what the broadcasters care about most. They probably would be hitting 1 million more regularly if their key demo viewers didn't fluctuate soo much. That's been the major downside to them having a younger audience than NXT who relies a lot more heavily on WWE's older main roster shows viewers that has been rock solid as the core base for them.

Until they solidify that young core, going to see these spikes keep happening in both directions and not just because of AEW having a hyped up gimmick show or something major happened outside of wrestling that week.

It’s more interesting than the boring-ass wrestling. Plus, Dynamite’s numbers sucked enough that TNT were willing to give them the big ol’ boot. Now they’re TBS’s problem. When they can’t compete with reruns of Big Bang Theory, they will be down to TruTV.

Nothing’s wrong with him, per se. Very talented guy. Was in my top five workers a few years ago back when he first turned heel. He hasn’t been presented any better in AEW than he was in WWE though, and he’s never been put in the proper position where he can earn cache as a potential draw. He’s not exactly the act you’d think would end up in a big four PPV. He’s a TV main eventer in stature right now.

I can't understand my own feelings on Kenny. Obviously his big matches are fun and really good but I hate his run as champion so far. My favorite thing he's done was that promo at Blood and Guts. I don't know how his star fell so far from his NJPW days to now. I've always attributed it to anime. He was like a live anime character in Japan and that is their nerd culture so the fans loved it. But here he just comes off over the top and stupid.

Christian's booking suffers from the same problems Miro had for a while after his debut. A bad mix of some really poor timing in retrospect and having to squeeze in the space for a quality feud in an already crowded scene on Dynamite.

Christian got the worse of it since his debut was too close to Big Show's AEW debut and got overshadowed by it. Plus the hype surrounding the mystery person debut ended up being way too massive for someone of Christian's star status.

The stuff with Kenny was never meant to be more than just a tease at a potential opponent for Kenny down the line and not him actually feuding for the belt right out of the gate. Had he actually feuded with Omega, the complaints of AEW being just like TNA in regards to WWE rejects being booked in prominent spots would have been even more louder and annoying online.
