Necessity. And maturity. An understanding of where Rollins was coming for. He made a pragmatic decision for the future of his career. Ambrose and Reigns were at each other's throats leading to the break-up and Rollins was clever enough to get ahead. They've all taken their shots at Rollins and put him through hell and vice versa. They've made a lot of money together -- both as allies and enemies. They are devils that know each other that were forged in the same wars.

I actually completely disagree. Look at NXT now. It's far superior to anything else the WWE is putting forward, and that's just Smoky Mountain Wrestling with an updated presentation.

Seth is completely right in that scenario. With Braun Strowman coming out and destroying the cruiserweights? Come on, everyone would shit all over that instantly. Then when you have them dump out Strowman, they've gone 50/50 in the segment. Where do you go from there? Strowman vs. the cruisers? Who wins that?

What Landis seems to be arguing for here is the Russoriffic approach to "booking." Threads that go nowhere, illogical stories, throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks. "At least the mid-card is doing something?" It's nothing consistent and nothing that gets them over. I guarantee you that if the WWE did that Strowman/cruiserweight stuff, none of the individuals will get any more over. There might be a pop for the cruiserweights at first, but when Strowman beats them, they're both dead. And if they beat Strowman he is dead.

Apparently an actual list of WWE Rules and stuff meant for house shows accidentally got leaked recently.

One of those errant things left at the arena at the house show on 12/10 in Lowell, MA, got out and listed a number of WWE rules at house shows:


Referees should not play a factor in our finishes. It is important to keep their credibility. Do not compromise the referee or put them in a compromising situation. (It’s notable on this one that WWE, as much as they can be showy, is stricter on this than even New Japan, which overdoes it with undermining the credibility of referees, especially in Bullet Club and Los Ingobernables matches.)
Please make sure all talent know not go up on the ropes during their entrances. (Obviously Randy Orton is the exception to this rule, but it’s notable that it is a direct house show rule.)
Please do not let talent stall too much, especially during the first match.
No impromptu talent promos. Promos must be approved ahead of time by Michael Hayes, or by the I.E. Agent/Producer and talent must run the promo content by an agent/producer and agent/producer must approve.
No one is to do the yay/boo stuff except John Cena.
Use of chairs, tables or other objects must be approved first.
Agents need to approve heels taking a walk during their matches and limit it to the top matches only.


Regarding injuries, if there is a bad bump or someone appears to be injured:

Stop the match to check on talent
If the ref is unsure if talent is okay, wave ringside doctor in to check on talent, all the while moving opponent to a neutral corner.
If the doctor deems the talent unable to continue, stop the match and have injured talent helped to the back for medical attention and award the match to the opponent.
If the talent wants to continue and the ref and doctor agree they can continue without doing further damage, then the talent should be able to get to their feet on their own and the ref can restart the match.
Any time a competitor is really hurt, the ref should go to their opponent and stand in front of them with his arms crossed. This is the sign the match has been stopped. Please pass on to talent and referee.
Do not give into talent who want to “suck it up” and continue the match. The talent’s well-being always comes first. Never let an opponent attack their injured- opponent to get heat.
If a talent is opened up and you must stop the match, later in the show if the cut is closed and the bleeding has stopped, it is okay to send the heel back out to cut a promo bragging about their victory and send the babyface to the ring “spirit of 76" to them, make a comeback and hit his finish on the heel. (Spirit of 76 is a business term for a bandaged up babyface to hit the ring and make a comeback on the heel.)


If we do a ref bump during a match, have the ref bump to the floor and have a second referee come down and finish the match. Please do not have the ref that was bumped remain in the ring peeking to see when he should get up and finish the match.

I will go to the grave believing Wade Barrett should've been in a marquee match at WrestleMania 27. Either against The Undertaker (to which the build already started with Nexus literally burying Undertaker with no follow up) or defending the WWE Championship against John Cena, whose tenure in the Nexus would've been stretched out longer than a month.

Probably the former. They'd likely already made the decision to build to a Cena/Rock storyline to span across three Manias, so Barrett being the third wheel in that would've sucked. Undertaker going in to total Sting vs. the nWo mode and holding off the Nexus at Mania could've been a lot of fun.

Hardly surprising though is it? I mean how many times have we heard this "each and every one of you " shit in promos? Its like a standard line that must be included when the crowd or multiple "superstars" is being addressed. Just about any promo in wwe these days is so generic it could be delivered by anyone, so doesn't surprise me thats basically how things work.

This "independant contractor" bullshit needs to be taken to task, wwe basically OWN the wrestlers and dictate what they can and can't do which i'm pretty sure is way beyond the remit of people that are classified that way.

It's funny how guys who are over manage to work through the scripted promo issue. The guys who sputter in their career have the biggest complaints. Reminds me of when people that work for me complain about not getting enough breaks, but it's only the people who are middle of the road or below average performers. The guys who are top performers never complain that the system is broken.

Mostly because you wouldn't be able to credibly validate which promos were scripted vs not. Unless Vince has an incredible memory and willing to talk.

On the flip side, how many terrible promos in the past were non scripted? A good promo guy should be able to do either.

From what I understand about the scripting of promos is that guys who are identified as needing to be kept on point are given less rope when it comes to promos. A guy like John Cena doesn't have every word written for him. A guy like Foley or Flair who is constantly losing their place when they are in the ring needs to be reigned in. Also some guys today PREFER to be scripted. When you watch a show like SNL do you think they are just winging it? Everything is scripted word for word.

What killed Barrett's potential stardom was him getting injury prone and not him missing the things needed to be a big star.

Ceasaro had the better in-ring skills but Barrett was better with gimmicks and promos which is what the WWE cares more about. The King gimmick was a bust but that was because the WWE didn't care enough for it to work and the whole tournament being just a big afterthought.

Ceasro could easily have been a big star by now if the WWE were actually serious with Heyman as his manager and/or not doing their best to fight the crowds who wanted him to be a big star.

Some folks are really good at doing memorized promos. The problem is, it's really hard to say someone else's words and make them sound natural. Pro Wrestling isn't Hamlet. It isn't Friends, regardless of what Kevin Dunn wants to think.

It would actually help the writing staff more if they just went with Bullet Points and an amount of time for a promo. Then the boys figure out how they want to get through the Bullet Points in their own words, how they feel like they themselves would say it.

Alas, some guys aren't good at talking at all. What do you do with folks like that? Limit their talking and let someone do the talking for them (managers). Honestly, if Managers were still a thing, Enzo wouldn't ever be anywhere near the inside of the ring.

I'd like the tournament winner to eventually drop it to a heel that jumps over from the WWE as a bit of a refresher for them -- whether that is a Jack Swagger or a Dolph Ziggler isn't too important. It'd be a nice feather in the cap for whomever they insert into that position. I'd like to see that heel unseated by Adrian Neville who then drops it to the next local guy they are trying to make. Wade Barrett then comes in, wins the belt from them and drops it back to that local guy after the local guy fights his way back into contention. The whole arc could play out over months and months.

I like the idea of using these foreign territories to send some guys who are struggling to find their way. Especially good for Internet darlings, as those fans tend to be Network subscribers. Swagger as a foreign heel in the UK territory could be fun.

Yeah, they came close a few times. He was set to come back and join the Straight Edge Society but they axed it at the last minute. He was also going to be in a "Second Chance" season of NXT which could've been interesting but that of course fell through too. And loads of pitched return ideas that never went anywhere.

He could've fleshed out the midcard on one of the brands. He's 37 years old, but it's not like there's a ton of wear and tear on him. He took a year or two off after his initial WWE release and then worked OVW, ROH, and the indies. Doesn't have a huge amount of wear and tear. But it sounds like he's retired now anyway.

Bring him in the post-Mania lull and have him beat Roman Reigns for the United States Title once Reigns is drafted over to SmackDown, freeing up Reigns to become the "star" on SmackDown and Masters to get a nice mid-card run beating all comers and looking like a star doing it.

I've got a feeling that SmackDown could end up being "The Shield Show" at some point next year. Rollins and Reigns go to SmackDown where John Cena is champ, while AJ Styles gets drafted to RAW where he can enter the domain of Finn Balor, who may or may not call for back-up...

Apparently Vince McMahon once asked Paul Heyman what he should do with WCW when it was up for sale and Heyman tried to persuade him to spend the money to keep ECW alive instead. The idea being it would be a lot cheaper to keep ECW running than whatever their plans were for WCW.

According to Bruce Pricard, WWE never had any real concrete plans for WCW because of too many conflicting ideas and other things causing problems like lack of a tv deal for Nitro.

On episode 19 of Something To Wrestle With Bruce Prichard, the professional wrestling veteran talked about the final episode of WCW Monday Nitro and the sale of WCW in general. Apparently, WWE's interest in WCW began when it was assumed WCW would be kept on Turner networks, with the idea being that WCW would operate as a totally separate brand from WWE. Apparently, ECW owner Paul Heyman was not in favor of WWE purchasing WCW. Also, Prichard talked about what became of the WCW wrestling rings that went to WWE as part of the sale of WCW.

According to Prichard, there was originally interest on Vince McMahon's part to purchase WCW based on it being on TNT and having an existing time slot. Apparently, WWE's focus shifted to WCW's tape library when WWE learned that WCW would not stay on Turner television ...

Moreover, Prichard claimed that many ideas were thrown around as to how to make a standalone WCW television program, including talk of giving WCW RAW's TV spot and making SmackDown the WWE branded show.

"There was discussion of having the Monday Night RAW slot be WCW and the SmackDown spot be WWF. There were a lot of different plans discussed, and, obviously, a lot of them scrapped and different things that came up." Prichard continued, "we didn't have a lot of talent we ended up taking from them that was marquee talent."

During the podcast, Prichard recalled that Heyman buried the idea of WWE buying WCW when McMahon asked him for his opinion. In Prichard's estimation, Heyman wanted the money for ECW instead of WCW.

Also got revealed the old WCW rings ended up having a few given away to wrestlers as gifts and the rest used for developmental and small arenas hosting WWE shows.

Heyman was probably right about WCW though. When it died, competition died and Vince had no competition -- nothing to make him sharper. It sounds like Heyman is just being selfish, and his interests are obviously involved there, but it would probably have been better for all. Especially because everybody probably knew what would happen if Vince McMahon got his hands on his worst enemy's favorite toy.

Apparently Foley might not be taking a break for a while after he revealed he currently doesn't have any health insurance. Also revealed he doesn't have a real contract with the WWE and has been working on just a handshake type deal.

He originally planned for the surgery to occur by mid-December but now is holding out till the WWE no longer needs him as an on-screen character or ends their deal with him.

I guess I should've said something when I started getting prayers and well wishes from friends and colleagues alike – including some of the biggest names in the business. I have definitely mentioned that I needed a hip replacement, definitely mentioned that I intended to get one sometime early in 2017, but never actually set a date. I have this little tiny problem in that I don't actually have health insurance.

I had health insurance for 26 years, but the last four years have been tough – with companies sending out letters telling me they will no longer be insuring families, and that I needed to find alternate insurance. By 2016 health insurance was particularly confusing, and after missing one payment, I found myself no longer insured. I am doing my best to be insured in 2017, but nothing is guaranteed, and I have no idea how this new insurance company will feel about replacing a hip that clearly should've been replaced many years ago.

For those wondering why the general manager of Raw needs to procure his own health insurance: well, I'm on a handshake deal. I do the job as long as I enjoy it and feel like I am making a difference, and I do it as long as WWE is happy with me and thinks I'm the best person for the role. No contract involved at all, except for the legends deal, which is strictly about merchandise. For those wondering why I just don't pay out-of-pocket, well it's a $60,000 operation, and I am going to look at some other options before I shell out 60K for an operation. Maybe I will concentrate on landing a couple of TV or film roles and get the far superior AFTRA insurance to take care of the operation. I probably should not be talking about it at all – but the word is out there, and I feel like I owe people an explanation ...

I had wanted most of December off, but I had made a commitment to the Pittsburgh Children's Hospital, and it meant a lot to me to fulfill that commitment. Then Mr. McMahon said something to me about a shark cage in question with Chris Jericho suspended above it, and I knew I had to be at that Raw. I missed Monday's raw. I should be back for almost every episode until that moment comes when/if the company decides to go in a different direction. If they do, I will simply be grateful for every single day I had a chance to go out and try to make a difference.
