While not a pro wrestling story, Peter Nelson is out as President of HBO Sports in another major change in a week for many in the sports industry.

Both NXT and and AEW ran their last shows in front of normal audiences on March 11th, which was a "shit's getting real" moment for the US as the NBA shut everything down over Rudy Gobert's positive test and the other leagues all followed suit the next day.

AEW had run 23 Dynamites prior to that, skipping a week for Christmas. The August 26th Dynamite (which will air the next day) will mark the point where they've had more COVID-impacted episodes than regular ones.

Since NXT went on the USA Network, they had run 26 episodes with one of them being a clip show at New Years. Right after the pandemic, the first two episodes were also clip shows and the September 16th episode, two days before their one year anniversary on USA, would be their tipping point of having more COVID-impacted episodes.

Also from the same Observer Newsletter issue, Meltzer speculated that TNT/HBO could be a potential home for The Rock's XFL due to The Rock's connections with the new boss of WarnerMedia's TV division.

On 8/7, seemingly out of the blue WarnerMedia CEO announced in a memo to staff that Reilly and Bob Greenblatt were out, and that Casey Bloys and Ann Sarnoff were their replacements.

Bloys, who has been the President of HBO, will now oversee HBO Max, TNT, TBS and Tru TV ...

It’s unknown what Bloys thinks about pro wrestling. He did attend Freedom High School in Bethlehem, PA, and was a classmate of Dwayne Johnson. The two didn’t know each other in school. Bloys was aware of Johnson, who was a high school All-American football player at the time. He also knew that Johnson came from a family of pro wrestlers. Bloys and Johnson know each other now, as Bloys greenlit Johnson’s show “Ballers” for HBO.

On paper, this move sounds good for Johnson in an attempt to get a paying television deal for the XFL.

Not the first time Triple H has defended troubled people with running accusations in the company since he was the biggest supporter of Bill Demott during Demott's time in charge of developmental that got plagued with accusations near the end. Already some speculations WWE won't do anything to Jordan Devlin either despite him being among those accused from WWE that had the strongest allegations and evidence against him. Another thing to consider - I don't know if Renee and Mox want kids but she turns 35 in a month. While women on average are having kids later than many of our parents' generation did....a lot of women still view mid to late 30s as now or never time.

I in fact admitted I took a shot at Brandy Rhodes as an executive. Guilty as charged. What I didn't do is say anything about AEW or the quality of their product.

If we are talking simple terms, my original post about Renee leaving was that I critiqued the decision by referencing 2 former WWE employees who left WWE, one of which influenced the other. They did not go to AEW, so how that meant I was implying AEW is bad is beyond me.

No matter what I post, the replies are that I should stop saying I hate AEW. That is entirely incorrect. There are a few things put on TV that I did not like, but my issue since day one has been pretty much anything they do outside of producing wrestling content.

Stuff like Jericho going out of his way to say Walter has a stupid wrestling name, or Kenny Omega giving interviews how NXT wrestlers would all be in dark matches on Dynamite, or the owner arguing with people on Twitter about demos, it's all offputting.

That is entirely incorrect. There are a few things put on TV that I did not like, but my issue since day one has been pretty much anything they do outside of producing wrestling content.

Stuff like Jericho going out of his way to say Walter has a stupid wrestling name, or Kenny Omega giving interviews how NXT wrestlers would all be in dark matches on Dynamite, or the owner arguing with people on Twitter about demos, it's all offputting.

I've posted multiple times that Cody does all that extra stuff right, and they should be following his lead.

That was NOT my first post about it. That was a reply to Baron saying he thought she would be done with wrestling.

That however was not a potshot at the product AEW produces. It was a prediction that she would preach the narrative, that is pushed incessantly, that AEW is the greatest place to work. The serious injuries Buff Bagwell suffered from his car accident earlier this week were recently revealed.

Former WCW star Marcus "Buff" Bagwell suffered a broken right hip, broken rubs, a broken left eye socket bone, a torn groin and has lots of bruising from the car wreck he was in this past Saturday 8/16, according to UCW promoter Ron Gossett. Miraculously, Gossett noted that Bagwell will not require surgery.

According to an announcement released on 8/18 by authorities seeking witnesses, Bagwell was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe while driving West on Cumberland Boulevard towards Cumberland Parkway in Cobb County on Sunday 8/16. Around 5:18 PM, Bagwell lost control as he followed a curve in the road, striking the center median and a metal fence inside the median, before driving towards oncoming traffic on the opposite side of the road. The car then hit the curb before colliding a "free-standing bathroom" next to a bus station.

Bagwell was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, GA with serious injuries. The announcement noted that "Investigators believe Bagwell was impaired by prescription medication during the collision."

Apparently Keith Lee's theme got changed for his RAW debut due to issues with royalties involving CFO$.

Much was made about Keith Lee's new WWE theme, which debuted on WWE Raw and was poorly received by fans and critics alike. Fightful has learned that Lee signed off on the change, but WWE has also been urging talent to ditch their CFO$ themes. The former WWE music group no longer works with WWE, and signed a terrible deal with their publisher that sees the publisher get half the royalties. WWE does not have the same publishing deal with the group as Jim Johnston, which is why we've seen so many changes to music over the last year or so. There have been some wrestlers that hated the music presented as replacements so much, they outright rejected the changes.

On the bright side, the company supposedly has big plans for him but if last night was any indication, they are likely going to struggle trying to pull that off.

As WWE announced last night, Keith Lee will be debuting on the Raw brand. He has been officially called up and we are told the plan is to present him as one of the brand's top babyfaces going forward.

According to Pro Wrestling Sheet, WWE invited Wade Barrett to be a guest commentator for this week's episode of NXT.

Pro Wrestling Sheet has learned former WWE star Wade Barrett will be joining the NXT announce team this week.

Sources tell us this is just a one-shot deal for now and that the former leader of Nexus – who won the first original season of NXT – has not signed a full-time deal to re-join the company.

Barrett aka Stu Bennett was released from WWE in 2016 after telling the company he did not intend to renew his contract once it expired. Since then, he’s focused on his acting career and most recently did announcing for Billy Corgan’s National Wrestling Alliance.

NXT caught a big break today in terms of competition due to NBA postponing all of today's playoff games due to recent police brutality protests in Wisconsin.

Bucks boycotting tonight's game and both the Celtics and Raptors considering doing the same for their game tonight played a big role in NBA's decision.

Only notable sports competition tonight is NHL's Game 3 between Tampa Bay and Boston. MLB does have New York Yankees vs. Atlanta Braves going on while NXT is airing but that's just a regular season game and not as big of a ratings magnet as other traditional big matchups MLB has for regular season games.

According to the Observer, WWE has had around 38 people test positive for the coronavirus since their first positive case earlier in the year.

Also unlike with the intital positive cases, the company had stopped informing talent and staff at their Performance Center of who was testing positive for the virus.
