I am absolutely mesmerized by that video of Koko reversing the power slam there. Like. Wow. He basically somehow kept the momentum of the powerslam going and turned it into a powerslam of his own. Getting that done before they hit the ground is absolutely insane. Probably one of the best moves I think I've ever seen.

Kinda wanna see someone else try to pull that off nowadays. See how clean they can get it.

What a maneuver.

Still crazy how close Koko comes to hitting the ground on the initial power slam before he just smoothly flips him over into the reversal for the pin attempt.

After watching it closer, it still looks like he reverses into a powerslam of his own, but instead of having his arm between the legs of his opponent he puts it in place to land directly into a pin attempt with his leg held up. Pretty damn slick way to alter a powerslam in general. Would be a cool move for someone to use I think, powerslam direct into a pin like that.

Trying to figure out how someone would pull that off as a move of it's own. Could you reliably go for a powerslam via the standard upper arm placement but hooking someone behind the knee instead of the crotch hold without it being dangerous af? I'm thinking a botch might end up either hurting the person doing the moves elbow or the person on the receiving end getting a hurt knee, most likely the latter. Dunno. Just looks so cool in my head. Wanna see Orton do it with one of those snap powerslams that he does better than anyone. His version has always looked so much more intense than anyone elses to me. It looks stiff af even though it isn't. RAMBLING.

A thing I love about Manami Toyota is that her matches feel like they’ve got the pacing of a men’s match. Loved Sid. He is such a weird case because you can argue that he was both an over and under achiever.

He had one of the best looks ever, and should have been one of the biggest stars ever but is not really remembered with much reverence within the industry.

The Nexus thing happened, got cooled off a bit, then Barrett helped Kane defeat Taker in Buried Alive. Thought it was setting up him getting the spot and they just snubbed him for Triple H chasing Shawn Michaels. Turns out the plan was always Triple H vs. Taker, but Nexus were supposed to be his lackeys in a heel turn. But Trips didn’t want to turn heel. Plus he probably figured not being able to beat Taker with 8 guys flanking makes him look super-weak.

I don’t remember this, but apparently he worked a match as part of The Alliance in 2001. He also won the Hardcore Title on the Raw brand before turning face after being a Heat mainstay prior to being part of The FBI. I don’t really remember him doing any of that beforehand. I guess it’s vaguely popping up now, but if you had pressed me I’d have guessed he was cut when the WWF purchased WCW, then they rehired him in 2003 when they wanted bodies for SmackDown.

Reading up on him, the guy’s career was bonkers. He once submitted a tape to the WWF dressed up as a Halloween character named “Phobia” advising kids how to trick or treat safely. It was based off the idea of a nest of spiders living under his bed.

Apparently when he beat Jerry Lawler for the services of Stacy Carter, he introduced Stacy to his “mother,” Mae Young. There’s a kayfabe relationship I didn’t know about.

I heard someone talking about the WWE setting up a permanent venue in Florida and running weekly from there to cut travel costs. It’s actually a no-brainer the more I think of it. Being the travelling circus worked when you were trying to expand and whatnot, but there’s something to having the cultural status to make people come to you.

They could have a resort attached. All the talent could have permanent residencies near their workplace. When you go down to Florida for the weather, or for Disney World or Universal Studios, you can go and see the WWE because, heck, that’s what you do when you visit Florida.

Vegas could have a similar appeal to them. Lots of tourists, permanent attractions they can piggy-back off. My guess would be Florida first, because of the PC and their presence there already.

Ive said for years House Shows no longer make sense for WWE. They have their own performance center, so if a wrestler needs to work off rust or whatever, they can just do it there. No matter how much Vince still thinks they are a traveling circus, the truth is they are a TV company. If they are making $600 million a year for Raw, Smackdown, and Peacock, and they make maybe $10,000 for a house show, if they run 200 house shows between both brands, that is only $2 million in profit for the year. That is not even 1% of thsir total income from the TV/Streaming deals. With Raw, Smackdown, and PPVs they would still have over 100 live events a year, and if they are going to each city once a year just for TV tapings, the attendance should increase as there would only be one chance a year to go instead of multiple chances.

Lots of different takes on this. Sting showing up out of shape, no tan, didnt really help. Inserting Bret's screwjob storyline into was overkill. It also didnt help that Nick Patrick was supposed to do a fastcount but counted normal. Sting should have kicked out when he realized the count wasnt fast. Such a mess.

I remember the Hogan/Sting buildup as a kid.... to me no match was ever bigger, and hasn't been bigger since. Everyone was talking about it at school, and I think the N64 game had just come out and was popular too and had an ad for the PPV in the box.... The level of hype around that match was just legendary and I still get chills watching the entrance. The way it flashes the half-dissolves of Hogan during Sting's entrance is like the most incredible TV production ever.

Not out of shape, that is poor wording on my part. He was smaller than he had been, about 20 pounds lighter, which goes to the issue brought up by Hogan and Bischoff that he had not been dedicated to the gym during that time he was in the rafters.

On Sting: I used to just see the Sting side. Pay off the fucking angle. The whole thing was booked to shit even if it went down like it was supposed to. Definitely this protecting of Hogan that screams egos of the time.

That being said, if you’ve given a guy off all this time, and he comes back looking less than they want him to (but it’s not like they couldn’t see him in the weeks and months leading up to this), it is going to cause friction. Sting had a cushy spot that was going to draw him ire if he didn’t “appreciate” it enough.

But I think it was just politics disguised as being a reasonable critique of the reality. If you’re trying to undercut a guy for your own stardom (and Hogan’s contract was expiring too), then you try to find a realistic weakness to try and knock him down some pegs.

They had Bret Hart coming in and Goldberg coming up too. Such a weird time. I can see Hogan using his status as the heel to edge himself into further importance around this time too.

This was about the only time Sting drew real money. Should he have drawn more after? Yeah, probably. But Hogan was more active in the build-up than Sting. It’s not a one-way street with Sting being awesome (ironically he wasn’t doing much). Sting needed Hogan to draw that buyrate too.

I meant to mention this in the Bobby Eaton tribute thread, but my favorite live wrestling memory was at a WCW house show in '91, I think. The location was definitely McCallister Field House. It was Bobby vs Terrence Taylor. Bobby sent Taylor over the railing almost right at the feet of my dad, my uncle, and I. My dad about had to stop 10 year old me from kicking Terrence Taylor. Main Event was Sid and Barry Windham vs El Gigante and Flyin' Bryan in a cage.

I don’t think Brock is done on Smackers. And with it being WrestleMania season, I can see them saying nuts to it all and having a fair bit of cross-pollination anyway. You’ll have the Rumble winners teasing which show they are going to go to. I can see guys feuding with you’re Brocks (probs Lashley) appearing on SmackDown a few times. It’s not good a lot of this talent is out or seemingly out, but if things get too weedy they’ll just have guys appear wherever they need them.
