- Rodolfo Roman spoke with Scott Steiner (http://rodolforoman.com/scott-steiner-message-rock-critics-talks-misused-wwe/) at the Florida Supercon event this weekend. Below are a few highlights:
Not getting the chance to feud with The Rock:
"I wrestled everyone. The first time I went to the WWE back in 2003 I wanted to go against The Rock. That never happened. He is one of the top guys of all time. The box office shows that. He was one of the most talented wrestlers there is. That’s the one guy I wanted to start off with. Vince brought all of the WCW guys up but basically Vince basically treated us like shit…treated us all the same. But they destroyed everything... me Goldberg, Nash were all treated the same way."
The Rock's critics:
"Who can talk bad about The Rock. He’s entertaining. He puts asses in the seats. He proved that but moving up to bigger and better things."
WWE's current product:
"That PG shit is hard to watch. It doesn’t make sense. You got South Park serving up a storm. You got all these shows. Wrestling was the first natural reality show. We created that genre. That was reality TV live. It started with RAW in the Manhattan Center."
Read more at http://www.lordsofpain.net/news/wwe/Scott_Steiner_Rips_WWE_s_Current_Product_Talks_About_Not_Getting_To_Feud_with_The_Rock_More.html#JA5 C0hWfGvrPBthA.99
Steiner vs Rock would have been much more entertaining than Steiner vs HHH was.

I'd have Swagger win the match at Battleground. Since he's fresh of his face turn and has never portrayed a face character in the WWE, I think he'll need a credibility boost to get the fans truly on his side. And I really saw something special in face Swagger on RAW that hasn't been there in the past. Give this face run a chance to go somewhere.
Rusev is a heel -- he is meant to lose eventually. Let Swagger be the guy that gives America their big win. Rusev can bounce back by getting a clean submission victory over RVD that writes him off television. Perhaps Rusev goes nuts with a chair on RVD after the match. Swagger can make the save and get even more fan support.
Let the two have an I Quit Match at SummerSlam, where they just beat the crap out of each other. Perhaps Zeb Colter is at risk of being hurt, or he throws in the towel for Swagger to protect him and give Rusev a big win. Or you can just have Jack go into beast mode and defeat Rusev again.

Swagger is an odd case. He's always been really fucking good in the ring, but for some reason, struggles to really find traction. That being said, he has had plenty of opportunities to stand out, but at the same time, it feels like the trigger has never really been pulled when it comes to him.
For example, his World Title reign was pretty badly booked. Plus it came off the tail-end of a feud with Santino Marella, which Swagger was losing. His promo work has never really come along, but he got Zeb Colter and got another push which he stuffed up (although it still played out about as well as I think it would have been planned to). But he's always been so fucking fluid in the ring and great at making others look good. He's just never been the one shining brightest.
If something clicks with Swagger as a face, then I say go for it. The guy has proven dependable as far as quality performances go for years.

Why the fuck has Cheerleader Melissa never gotten a chance to make it in the WWE? She's a beautiful woman who can fucking work. With the rumors that Brie Bella might face Stephanie McMahon at SummerSlam, I'd love it if Brie came out for the match and then Stephanie McMahon came out and said she was hit by a stomach virus because she breathed in the air in LA. Brie will still get the chance to compete for her job, however, but it's against a new opponent. Cue Melissa Anderson making her WWE debut under whatever name the WWE decides to give her.

Two big reasons with one being blame Johnny Ace caring way too much about models and non-wrestlers during the whole time he was in charge. The other being by the time Triple H took over, she was a bit old in Divas terms.
Sara Del Ray was about the same age when she got hired but only because the WWE wanted a veteran to train the divas in NXT and not as a wrestler.

This is true, but Melissa Anderson is still young enough to have a few years left to give and can also help polish the younger girls. Why do all the Divas they hire need to be young? Why not have some older ladies so there is contrast? Why not have an older woman to call Paige "little girl" and give Paige's fans a reason to feel her slighted against?

There seemed to be a real point to everything at WrestleMania XXX. Cesaro was built to be a break-out star. The streak was over and we were in a new era. Daniel Bryan ascended the ranks. The Shield wiped out the Attitude era guys. To be honest, the only thing I really would have changed would have been putting Bray over Cena.
Cesaro has been so oddly handled since WrestleMania. It seemed as if they were going to present him as a "cool heel" going forward. He aligned with Paul Heyman and got cheers for it. His Cesaro Swing was meant to be over, and there was meant to be a "Cesaro Section." But then he stopped doing the swing, started acting like more of a coward, has changed his ring jacket/shirt/robe about every few weeks and has essentially become just another guy. Heyman hasn't even really hyped him up much on the mic. Weird.

Like Jim Ross says on his podcasts, tweeners don't work. They hold interest for awhile, but the mixed signals lead to indifference. They committed to him as a heel, but being a chickenshit heel is the worst possible thing for his character following WrestleMania. I imagine he will turn face by getting frustrated with Heyman upon Brock's return.

Heyman is becoming vastly over-rated. He adds nothing to the people he manages. I don't find Cesaro anymore interesting. He's become a crutch for Cesaro. Cesaro needs to talk for himself. I said the same things for Reigns, and Reigns is miles ahead of Cesaro. He added nothing to Punk, Axel or Ryback and I'dd really rather Lesnar be without Paul. His promos did zero for the Taker vs Lesnar match.

Would have been enjoying the "Summer of Cesaro" had the WWE stuck with the original rumored plans.
Instead they dropped or went in a different direction for everything big.
Andre statue was supposed to be a lot more important for status reasons, Heyman was supposed to play a bigger role in his face turn, and the swing/Cesaro section would have been Bryan-like in popularity.

I get the point about tweeners, but slow-burn face turns can work. Cesaro would have still been a heel. He would be beating up mainly good guys and aligned with a well known rat in Heyman. But he was getting over and people wanted to cheer him. The Swing at least got kids into his matches and such. As a "cool heel," Cesaro could have been that gate-way for kids who grow out of enjoying the John Cena/Kofi Kingston style face into becoming life-long fans of the bad guys. Cesaro could have been this generation's Roddy Piper or Mr. Perfect in role.
Everything with him just seems...odd now.
How hard would it have been to have Cesaro vs. Swagger at Extreme Rules, with Paul Heyman and Zeb Colter in their charges' corners respectively. Cesaro would have won cleanly and Heyman would rant about how Cesaro just proved he was the better Real American and is destined for the World Title picture. Then at Payback, Cesaro vs. Sheamus without the US Title being involved (Sheamus' US Title win was odd too, in my opinion), with Cesaro being the bad guy, but probably getting cheered in Chicago. Cesaro would have won that match cleanly too, and begun mounting credibility as a tough heel.
Money in the Bank could have seen Cesaro play essentially the role he played, but would have been his first PPV loss since aligning with Heyman. Something like this could have brought out the dark side in Cesaro, and he'd be heading towards a singles match at Battleground now, which he would have won in decisive fashion.
It just feels like his build has been rather stop-start.

I actually agree, sadly. Axel was just randomly supposed to matter without much build. They probably should have given him some wins at Michael McGillicutty first. I actually enjoyed Axel, despite most finding him boring, and Heyman's relationship with him. I liked that Heyman essentially picked him out as a diamond in the rough and helped transform him from a guy with a chip on his shoulder that was afraid to embrace who he was, to embodying it.
I think Triple H should have been more of a martyr for Axel to destroy in his re-branding. And I wish Axel had more personality to show off and make his push more sustainable. But what sabotaged the Axel/Heyman relationship was the feud with CM Punk. Axel was never going to win that, and he was the Intercontinental Champion at the time. It halted all Axel's momentum.
Ryback was also never going to go over Punk, and as a result, that relationship was mired from the start. Heyman needed a main event guy not named Brock Lesnar to carry on the fight against Punk heading into Hell in a Cell.
But I agree: Cesaro and Heyman have been underwhelming together. We've got mixed signals from them. Heyman needs to come out and explain why Cesaro is the next top tier talent in WWE, and not just tell us that he is.

I like Heyman with Brock. He adds a lot to that mix.
I also enjoyed Heyman with CM Punk. Punk obviously didn't need someone to talk for him, but Heyman was an excellent hype man.
With Axel/Ryback, he was not very good at hyping them up.... but very good at hyping up a feud between himself and CM Punk that just so happened to have other people tangentially involved.
Now with Cesaro, he spends most of the time talking about Brock Lesnar. Should be busy hyping up Cesaro and treating him like the biggest star in the company. Hyping him up a lot more.
Heyman is a tremendous hype man, so that is what he should be doing for Cesaro.

I agree with all of this except Lesnar. Heyman definitely adds to Lesnar.
As for Cesaro, Axel and Ryback, I'd put that mainly on WWE not knowing what the fuck they're doing with long term booking. Guys getting a quick push and then getting forgotten about immediately and wasting any momentum right out of the gate has been the norm for years. Heyman can't really do anything without the guy being booked to be remotely interesting. There's only so much you can say about the guy when he's doing nothing of note.
Of course, it also doesn't help that Axel should never have gotten such a push to begin with because he's horribly bland.

Still working my way through the "Attitude Era", just moved into '98. Doesn't take long to notice the differences to today's presentation. In '98 you get the full opening credits followed by the pyro and JR's incredibly excited intro setting the tone for the show. Today you go from the WWE ident into a cold open with The Authority coming to the ring to talk for 10 minutes most weeks whilst Cole calmly introduces the show.
I'm watching this week's TNA. Kinda hate the name The Wolves. Preferred them as The American Wolves.

Think that Mania also started a the small streak of Manias being rushed for time or dragging along. Wasn't until this year's Mania that it got broke.

I hate the cold openings. I actually can't remember the last time Raw opened with the intro.
Thinking about it all now, I feel like Cole has really gotten worse since his heel run abruptly ended. When he was on SmackDown, he was actually pretty good, then he went to Raw and continued with that until his heel turn.
His heel turn was really great and entertaining, but because of what happened with Lawler and his heart attack, the heel run had to end, which I understand. Since then though, he's just gotten worse and worse.
These days, your average Michael Cole commentary consists of "OH!", "OH MY!", "*Wrestler's Name* with a *adjective* move!", complaining to JBL & Lawler that their references aren't "current" and just general bickering with JBL. He doesn't call moves unless they're finishing moves or signature moves. If they're not, then he just refers to them as a "move" or a "hold".
Also, I've noticed (especially recently) that when Cole is calling a match featuring the males, you can sometimes see him in the background leaning forward and looking at his monitor, but whenever there's a Diva's match happening, he's always just sitting back in his chair and not paying any attention to his monitor or the ring, and he looks so uninterested and bored. He doesn't even talk about the match that's happening. He just usually stays quiet or talks about the main event.
I don't want to be one of "those guys", but you would never see JR doing that.

In no order, again, top 10 Stunner/Cutter Moves without naming the Stone Cold Stunner or Diamond Cutter (to two give two other ones a spot on this list)
1. 3D
2. Twist Of Fate
3. Acid Drop
4. That "backpack stunner" that Ryback's previous name did
5. That stunner/hot shot on the top rope that Jeff Jarrett did
6. PAC's slingshot cutter he did in the indys
7. TKO
8. RKO
9. The Gorilla Press into a cutter in WrestleMania 2000 for the N64
10. Tower of London
I like R-Truth's suplex stunner. I think it pairs perfectly with his inverted suplex.

The artwork looks amazing, but it's just a shame the game was cancelled. I remember seeing a trailer for the game and it actually looked quite interesting. It's a long shot, but I would love it if 2K picked up the game and continued on with it where THQ left it, but I really don't see 2K doing that.
I get the feeling that 2K will only ever make WWE games for the main series and not do what THQ did, where they experimented with different art styles and game genres, like what they did with Crush Hour, All Stars, Brawl and so on.

when they started teaming "properly" in ROH later that year they needed a name and used "Wolves" as an homage to where they first teamed together/Wolverhampton/WWFC

Christopher Donnelly, a prisoner in the state of Pennsylvania, recently filed a lawsuit against WWE and Natalya. Donnelly actually made a several page hand-written filing and alleged that Natalya is an evil dominatrix that abused him mentally, physically and emotionally from 2005 until 2009.
Donnelly alleged that Natalya aborted his child, beat him numerous times at hotels across the country, used obscenities such as "this is my dungeon, you little bitch!" and other "naughty acts" according to the complaint. The man claimed that Natalya also forced him to prostitute himself. He said he wanted $250,000 in damages for mental and psychological trauma, spelling psychological wrong in the filing. If he didn't receive the $250,000 through the lawsuit, he threatened to take the complaint to higher courts and the media.
On July 7th, a judge in Florida wrote that the filing was filled with delusional language and went on to dismiss the lawsuit on several grounds.

The update on Bryan is that he may now also require shoulder surgery, as a full exam has revealed a lot of different shoulder and neck issues.
With regards to Renee Young’s backstage status in WWE, the belief is she will eventually, at some point, wind up on the Smackdown announce team.
Young has been promoted to the Superstars announce team, and even though WWE has cut back on the Network pre-shows it appears as if they will continue with the PPV pre-shows, which are usually hosted by Young now that Josh Mathews is gone.
Regarding Young possibly leaving WWE for ESPN, she has at least given the impression she intends to stay with WWE, and she has time left on her contract. Young is said to be a “wrestling person” deep down, unlike Jonathan Coachman and Todd Grisham, who are sports guys who were given wrestling jobs.

Ustream shutting down their iPPV streaming service starting in October.
We are sad to tell you that we have decided to shut down our Pay-Per-View (PPV) feature on October 1st, 2014.
It’s always a tough decision to discontinue any feature, but we want to direct our resources to focus on other features and continue providing the best live streaming platform possible.
Here’s what you can expect:
July 9th, 2014 we will no longer allow scheduling of PPV events past September 30th.
September 14th, 2014 PPV event creation will be disabled.
October 1st, 2014 we will shut down our PPV product, remove all PPV events and make all public PPV videos private videos.
October 30th, 2014 all PayPal payments to broadcasters for ticket sales will be complete.
We encourage all users of Ustream PPV to continue using our Free Broadcasting platform, or to subscribe to our Pro Broadcasting service. Our Enterprise Pro Broadcasting plan includes the ability to hide your Ustream channel page and restrict where your content plays. Combined with your own e-commerce or payment gateway capabilities, this would allow you to build your own protected page and charge users to access it.
We are always eager to hear your feedback on this, or any other Ustream features. Please email your feedback to feedback@ustream.tv

Where I give up the title for a World Title match but you give the X Division champion before Destination X the same opportunity every year."

By that logic, though, there should be no "Freebird Rule"*, because the Freebirds don't exist anymore. And nobody should call masterful worked shoots "pipebombs", because the promo that made the term famous was actually given weeks before the one where Punk actually used the term- and it was also "in passing". And let's not forget "Austin 3:16", one of the biggest merch-moving catch phrases in the history of the industry, and it was merely intended to be part of a larger dig at Jake Roberts' on his KOTR loss.
Sometimes, things just stick. They become a thing. And even though TNA should make a better effort to explain to any potential newbs what "Option C" is (without going overboard like with explaining every three sentences that Rellik is "killer" backwards, or that Jeff Hardy and Willow are the same person.)
*Actually, I still believe WWE dropped the ball on that recently by not having 3MB become tag champs and re-introducing the Freebird Rule much like when they did so with Spirit Squad or the 3-man incarnation of Demolition. 3MB were custom built for such a gimmick.
