I did not watch a minute of RAW this week. I read the results and some dirtsheets. Genuinely turned off by the aftermath of the Superstar shakeup and it meaning jackshit. Also the amount of toxicity in this company is one of the primary reasons for me to do so. I’ll attempt to keep up with Smackdown and NXT for now.

The whole wildcard thing makes me not want to tune into smackdown.

WWE was really lucky they signed their mega tv deal last year since the Observer reported the general feeling within the tv industry is wrestling is now a "cold" market for television. All due to WWE's rapid decline and woes this year.

That makes it harder for AEW to get a great deal for their planned weekly tv show and Impact's chances on finding a better network since they desperately want to get out of Pursuit in a few months.

I have been a fan of the WWF/WWE since 1987, always been super loyal like I'm sure many others here. But I decided to stop watching Raw and Smackdown as of last week and just catch the highlights on YouTube instead. I've saved 5 hours a week and more importantly saved some of my own sanity. I'll stick to NXT, Takeovers and WWE PPVs. And other Network specials. I just can't do Raw specifically any more, and right now Smackdown feels like a waste of time too. The product has become beyond stale IMHO, and is incredibly formulaic. I knew I reached a tipping point recently when the smallest "WWE habit" ticked me off... like wrestlers slamming mics after every promo, or every promo sounding wooden and lifeless. Heck, even hearing "Because at (name of upcoming PPV)" has irked me to no ends. I realized it was time to filter my viewing experience and make it work better for me.

I'm sure I'm far from the only one. I am really hoping AEW hits it out of the park and gets WWE trying again. Because right now they're phoning it in. The little bits I caught tonight... it seems like Vince has become a parody of himself, and it's sad to see. The Wild Card rule seems like a desperate attempt to provide some different creative avenues, but it just came off as kind of pathetic following the Superstar Shakeup. It's as if nothing matters or counts in WWE any more. They're just killing time. Shoot, I'd rather play my huge backlog of video games, or read a good book to fill the time.

That Usos-Revival segment was awful beyond belief... pro wrestling done right is really good. It's not that complicated. But somehow the WWE is getting it wrong on so many levels. It's become hard to watch, so until it gets better, I'll stick to highlights and PPVs. And hoping AEW gives the North American wrestling industry the shot in the arm it so desperately needs.

I could see that being believable if this was something that only happened suddenly like WWE's rapid decline in quality and interest post-Hulkamania era or post-Invasion storyline.

Instead this has been something that's been self-inflicted for years and only now has gotten to the point where its becoming impossible to ignore or sweep away. WWE's biggest blunders were not learning their lessons from the booking mistakes with the Cena era and not grooming Cena's kids market to be their future core viewers.

In the span of a few months, WWE went from being one of the hottest properties in television to now being closer to "ice cold" status. If they were a regular tv style show, they would have been canceled by now and the only reason it hasn't happened is due to their ability to provide weekly content without needing seasonal breaks.

More surprised they allow a running powerbomb after what happened to Droz. They banned the piledriver for much less if you compare what happened to Austin vs Droz. And that was only because Owen Hart decided to do a weird variation of a tombstone when he (allegedly) talked to austin backstage and said he would drop to his knees after initially saying he would drop to his ass.

Tue pettiness is on par with WWE operation, but then, the action would require viable forethought they clearly don't have.

Example context to my statement:

1) constantly trying to bury Daniel Bryan because his popularity was fucking up their plans until they couldn't sweep it under the rug anymore, then pretending that is what they meant to do the entire time until the temporary retirement.

2) the time I was swerved into believing that WWE was trying to bank on Batista being hot shit off the back of the first Guardians, but in reality, they thought the movie was going to flop, and didn't factor cross promotion at all.

3) having potential, premade stars graduate from their Florida factory, just to make them nobodies in short order.

4) killing an angle between Sasha and Bayley that saw Bayley not get suckered. It was supposed to be a heel turn but got a damn cathartic pop and should have been an avenue to make her a force to be reckoned with. Instead, that gets scrubbed in like three weeks to force them into a tag team to become the inaugural women's champs that they really didn't need to do.

5) NXT makes a big deal out of x tag team. Tag team gets called up to main roster. Tag team gets featured for like a month. Tag team fucks off to oblivion. See: American Alpha, Authors of Pain, The Ascension, The Revival, Heavy Machinery....

6) Remember when they thought Jinder Mahal would be a big deal halfway around the world just because he was brown?

They have been doing shitty shows since before Cody Rhodes tweeted "hold my beer". There is no way fucking over AEW is any priority. More like a "bright side" side effect of being a colossal shitty show... well, shitshow.

Saw a cool interview with Rhyno. He's walking away from WWE when his contract expires on July 17 because he wants to wrestle more and help bring more inexperienced talents along. WWE offered him twice as big a downside as he had to stay.

Those posts are really bad, especially the ones where he belittles people for having anxiety despite suffering through it himself. And he blocks anyone who brings up these posts.

It’s not even that he said one or two awful things. These are posts spanning half a decade showing patterns of racism, homophobia, and a complete lack of regard for the mentally ill. And all of these posts were when he was in his 20s and at an age where he clearly should’ve known better.

Is it possible for people to change? Yes. But his refusal to own up to any of his mistakes tells me that he hasn’t.

Apparently WWE laid down the hammer on the two NXT guys who were running a troubled Twitch channel.

Besides known issues with their streams having content that likely would piss off or be borderline unacceptable to WWE, they also ran an infamous donation system that encouraged people to pay to hear insults from wrestlers which led to the Rhea Ripley homophobic slur incident to happen.

The NXT guy who ran the channel pretty much implied its all WWE's fault and instead of making changes to save their channel, he decided to call it quits instead.

Before the Crippler grabbed the mic, Mayor Bill Smith declared Sunday - when Benoit defends the title at Rexall Place - "Chris Benoit Day."

"I've brought the championship to Edmonton, right where it belongs," said Benoit. "I can't begin to tell you what an honour, what a privilege, it is. I had a whole bunch of things I wanted to say, but to hear the reaction from the all the fans showing their support, it's really hit home.''

At that point, Benoit had to take a second to compose himself.


"It was quite overwhelming," he said.

The Rabid Wolverine wasn't the only one who was shedding a tear or two.

His mother, Margaret, seated in the front row next to a makeshift ring in the City Hall atrium, couldn't hold back her emotions.

"I always thought he would be an architect or a man of the cloth because he was so quiet," said mom.

"It's such a rough business but he loved it, so we had to support him. When he went to Japan to train for six months I knew that was it. He'd made his choice."

Benoit's mom didn't make the trip to New York to see her son claim the championship, but she's placed a special keepsake in her room of memorabilia.

"I took the confetti off my husband's shoes and put it on the wall.''

But the 36-year-old champ wasn't always the toughest guy inside the Benoit home. His sister, Laurie, used to regularly get the better of him in no-holds-barred main events in the living room.

"We used to roll around on the carpet and then as soon as we heard the car pull up and our parents come home, we'd separate," said Laurie. "We smashed a chair and had to glue it together in a panic. We'd fight but we'd work together when we'd break things because we didn't want to get caught."

Although he can be a practical joker on rare occasions, Benoit is much the same quiet type he was when his interest in wrestling was first piqued more than 20 years ago.

"He's a very private person," said Laurie. "He's very shy and likes to be in the background. He's stayed pretty normal. He's always loved being around his family."

Benoit was thrilled the entire clan could be front and centre for the special event.

"My family's made more sacrifices than I have in helping me get to where I am today," he said.

It speaks volumes that so many Lucha and puro guys wrestle into their late 40s/50s. Probably because both styles place a heavy emphasis on multi-man tag matches and the guys don’t break themselves with high impact spots in every single match to diminishing returns.

Also a lot less wear and tear on the body in terms of constant traveling and amount of shows compared to WWE. WWE's grinding schedule pretty much ends up becoming a war of attrition on a wrestler's body after a while.

Maybe even less roid usage since less emphasis on needing an ideal or chiselled body to be a big star.

It can also be the way they take bumps in Mexico vs here. In lucha libre, you see more guys bumping on their hip and side vs. America where you see more back/neck type bumping.

Seems the whole situation revolves around Kross regretting signing a multi-year deal with Impact last year.

Kross feels he's currently being underpaid compared to his value outside of Impact and has also been upset with the direction of his career in the company.

Apparently Viceland was working on a Dino Bravo episode for their Dark Side of the Ring series before it got dropped when they cut back plans for the series to have 6 episode instead of 10.

For some reference, Bravo allegedly had a side job as a cigarette smuggler in Canada and got on the bad side of the mob who allegedly ordered a hit on him as punishment.

The final episode of the first season of Dark Side of the Ring, focusing on The Fabulous Moolah and all the claims made about her, will air this Wednesday at 10 PM Eastern on Viceland. The network has been very happy with the series, so I’d be stunned if they didn’t get picked up for a second season. There is already a half-finished episode surrounding Dino Bravo filmed as they did a ton of interviews in Montreal with his family and others for an episode that was originally earmarked for season one, but when they decision was made to cut from ten episodes down to six, it was one of the episodes that was halted.

Good little documentary/match combo... I don't believe a man with that athleticism and size spent 3-4 years wrestling dark matches because he wasn't good enough. I don't think they wanted him in as a mid card wrestler, only as a main event hero so maybe he was held back by Hogan and kept in reserve by Vince for a time that never came.

I'd have liked a straight comment from Vince but I bet it was less about lack of talent and more about Hogan't creative control, drawing power and the lack of necessity in replacing him with anyone at that time.

Hogan was still drawing fair crowds up til 1991 or so wasn't he?

I feel like WWE's popularity is actually slipping tbh, as many have mentioned here.


I know wrestling is a niche market to begin with, but with sliding ratings and social media (WWE hasn't trended worldwide on Twitter since WM itself -- which is why you haven't heard them brag about trending -- YT views each week are down a little too, less merch sales, less subscriptions to the Network, less live attendance, etc.

Part of me thinks years of WWE having so much content and going against what their most vocal and passionate fans want has finally caught up with them. Granted, RAW in particular has been bad for like a year at this point and really nosedived the last few months.


IDK, I think what I am trying to say is I think ratings will keep dropping. I also think people will tune into the Network for PPVs though. I think the weekly tv shows are going to have some trouble though as they are bad and most of the time, not really a reason to watch.

I could see SD launching well, 3-4 million and staying that way for a few months. But then it might be a novelty thing, rather than something that attracts new viewers to WWE. Friday is a bad night for tv to begin with and WWE is NOT new-user friendly.

There's just so much of it, and to see payoff (if there is such a thing in a feud at all) you have to spend $10 more dollars a month and I can't see the general public really going for that or WWE's lame storylines like people having back hair or being short or hating the WWE universe.

RAW and SD could easily drop to 1.0 and 1.5 rating and there's enough of a fanbase WM could sell out stadiums for the new few years. I think at some point though, if things go down a slippery slope, and it would be a ways away, Vince would either just sell WWE or they'd end up cutting back on content. I know WWE's current plan is to actually produce more content each year, but I think that will just further eradicate people via being 'too much of the same thing and most of it not being that great'.

A guy called into Wade Keller’s show last night. Take this FWIW. He said he has a couple friends that are members of creative and he shared this:

- Nobody should ever rip WWE creative. They have some brilliant and cool ideas. They have 1 month, 3 month, and 12 months storylines. They are told they are writing for an audience of 1. He said that some of the ideas he heard were really good.

- They said Hunter is very frustrated each night in the back. He looks like the most frustrated person in the building each night and he is always consoling the talent.

- The Wild Card idea was not in the script as of last Monday Morning.

- The Superstar shakeup changed week to week and it did not end up at all how it was to go off. Months of planning went into how it was to go down and it all was thrown out the window.

- The Smackdown and Raw writing teams are the same for both shows now.

- Vince wants suggestions for everyone but rarely uses them.

- The writers said he doesn’t watch NXT and maybe watches the Takeovers. So he doesn’t really know much about the talents that come up and just creates his own vision for them.

- The writers said he doesn’t keep track of anything outside WWE. Basically he watches the network and works out.

- There is no chance he steps down or takes a step back until the day he dies even with the XFL.

- They said Dana Brooke has been the hardest worker over the last three years. She gets there early, works in the ring etc. Does anythng she can to get better. They pitch TV segments for her and she gets nothing.

- Right now they are all working for Dana Warrior.

- They have it in their contract that under no circumstances that the show would be moved to FS1. It will stay on Fox.

- They all loved Road Dog and feel like he will end up with AEW.

- It is a toxic atmosphere because of Vince.

- When Neville left there was a shouting match between him and Vince. He flipped out on him and it was the lats time they ever saw him.

The stop start stuff we see is because Vince gets interested for a week and then changes his mind. He said this is demoralizing for the talent and the writers because they work so hard to put this stuff together and then he just changes his mind. It gets to a point where everything you are writing is not on TV and then you watch the stuff on TV and it’s so bad.

- The talent is very unhappy. There are people wanting/trying to get out of their contracts.

- Bruce Prichard is a pleasure to work with but he hasn’t made a difference. He can’t get through to Vince either. They said Shane has even had conversations with Vince and Vince laughed him off. Shane, HHH and Steph have all tried this.

- They all assume they will get fired. They all listen to popular podcasts and it breaks their heart because they get bashed but they really have no say.
- They have 37 total wrtiers.

- Andrade went to Vince and asked for a legit push. Vince told him to learn some English and kicked him out of the office. I guess last week he had a promo and spoke some English. He’s also taking English classes.

- They said the Firefly Funhouse is all Bray Wyatt’s idea. He is a genius when it comes to character development.

- They said when Fox first came in they said they wanted the top stars and are not paying for a B show.

- They said the best time they had the last few years was when there was brand specific PPV’s because so many guys got so many opportunities.

- The Zayn character is Vince yelling at the fans and the critics and despises that the fans don't enjoy what he is giving them.


It was at about the 14 minute mark of his Raw post show.

The shows WWE is replacing on Fridays were averaging in the 3-4 million range and FOX still felt that was worth sacrificing to get SmackDown, which at best does in the mid 2 million range since going live.

I'm not sure the investors in WWE know/care that much about the product to see past the green they're making from TV deals and Saudi Arabia in the moment. He can be demoted as the chairman but pretty much would need him to be involved in a mega scandal for that to happen. Even then, he'd still likely own a very sizeable ownership share of the company going by what happened to Papa John's founder after his big racism scandal.

Him and Linda own something like 85-95% of the real power in the company so even combining the power of everyone else to oust him would be meaningless unless he agrees to leave. Not even Linda plus everyone else would be enough I believe.

According to PWI, Killer Kross recently asked for his release from Impact Wrestling.

Seems the whole situation revolves around Kross regretting signing a multi-year deal with Impact last year.

Kross feels he's currently being underpaid compared to his value outside of Impact and has also been upset with the direction of his career in the company.

Impact initially stood their ground against a pay raise but then offered one that was at a lower amount than Kross was asking and with none of the guarantees he also asked for (base pay and work dates).

Some new details via WrestleZone regarding Kross' current deal with Impact and Impact's pay raise offer:

Kross does appear on IMPACT as often as some of the talent he’s looking to be paid equal to, but IMPACT’s counter was much lower than expected, which was less than half of what he was seeking. An exact number was not mentioned, but it was said to be ‘less than a NXT entry level deal’, which is normally $45,000 per year.

Wrestlezone was also told that a number of the multi-year deals—including the one Kross is locked into—currently being offered are low paying, and often see talent losing money due to travel costs associated with their appearances for the company. These deals see talent making anywhere from $250-400 per appearance, with no guaranteed minimum amount of appearances included in the deal. In addition, it was stated that while there are a number of people in the company that have guaranteed downsides and are making good money, only a couple of them are making a livable wage based on their current pay rates.

Under these deals, talent are flown to the IMPACT TV tapings / live events on basic economy level flights, and are also paying out of pocket for their own luggage, rental cars / Uber transportation and hotels. The situation was described as wrestlers ‘literally losing money’ after compensation and expenses, with several talents saying they were making as little as $3000-5000 for the year (with IMPACT, not including their independent bookings) before taxes and expenses despite being on a majority of the shows.

A lot of it is also because of both of her opponents having the ideal look Vince wants for a woman's star and the side story of Becky potentially having to defend her belts three times in one night. Also people being more worried about Vince giving one of Becky's belts to his handpick women stars than Kofi's reign being cut short.

With Kofi, he's pretty much getting pushed to the side because of Reigns taking priority and his Owens feud being rushed due to some ill timing with Bryan and Big E's injuries. On top of that, having whatever remaining focus being split because of Becky's stuff and the Wild Card nonsense.
