Seems Jason Jordan's current injury woes are way worse than originally expected. Instead of it being a regular back injury that just needed some extra rest, its a serious neck injury affecting the nerves as far down as his hands.

I actually don't know if I've seen it. I hated Cena at the time, and I hated the Umaga gimmick. But both are incredible performers so I've been meaning to go back and check it out.

I was watching some Four Horsemen promos and Dean Malenko is in a few of them. Obviously not known for his personality, I couldn't help but think "He's actually not a bad talker by today's standards." Because everyone is given scripts and charisma is stifled. And the look isn't important anymore. And being in the Four Horsemen was still kind of cool and a pretty big push based on talent in a company and time where talent meant shit.

I dunno, I'm just spit-balling here, but I think if Dean Malenko were around today, he'd probably be given the NXT Title and be used in the main event scene today. Not sure if he would actually be WWE Champion, but it wouldn't shock me. Maybe I'm just being cynical about the lack of charisma in wrestling today.

Thanks for the recommendation. Umaga was actually a really good opponent for a lot of the "WWE prototype" guys. Or just guys they wanted to push. Did good stuff with Jeff Hardy too. One of the better "opponents" they had.

Speaking of strange, I had a really strange dream last night that involved me being at a WWE event.

Nakamura came to the ring and as he did, I could hear the announce team of Booker T, Tom Phillips and Michael Cole talking, and Phillips said "Nakamura" but Cole began saying "Nakamura" in a very racist Japanese accent and he found it hilarious and began doing that grunting/snortning noise he makes when he's trying not to laugh.

Suddenly, Cole jumped from his chair and ran to the back where I heard him let out all his laughter. I looked at his chair and saw that it what wet with some wet trails leading to the back.

Booker T then looked at me with a shocked face and Cole came back out with a damp crotch and took the mic and apologised to the crowd for pissing himself.

Thdy have 95,000 subscribers and not sure how many of them are in the US, but for Wrestle Kingdom 11, they gained 10,000 new sub's and 55% were from the US.

I'd say if you were dedicated enough to use that shitty website, you night be dedicated enough to plan a vacation around the yearly NJPW show. I think AXS does good enough business for some too since Mark Cuban says it's one of the most popular things on his channel.

There were 25,000 subscribers outside Japan at last count. You would need 20% of them to all be in California for that date to all be New Japan World subscribers. Cuban says 200,000 or so viewers. That's impressive and almost up too where TNA is. Wish more would subscribe though.

Not that it matters, but on their website they credited Sheamus with 20 seconds in the Rumble, which would've from the time the buzzer went off to the time he got into the ring. But at the same time they credited Heath Slater with only 33 seconds which would've been the time he was thrown into the ring to the time he was eliminated.

My best guess is it's a typo and Sheamus' time is meant to say :02, not :20. But it's funny to imagine that they've realized that they don't want a future Hall of Famer to have the second shortest stint in a Rumble, so they've retconned it.

They really should have brought back the European Championship instead of introducing the United Kingdom Championship.

It could have only have been for European (Union Member) wrestlers to fight over and they could have even had an angle where a British wrestler wins the title on the day Britain leave the EU, only for him to be stripped immediately because even though it's whatever time in America, it's past midnight in Europe and over there, Britain is now out of the EU.

Mr. Nerfect
02-04-2018, 05:51 PM

Because looking at these stats, there are a lot of wrestlers who worked as often as CM Punk -- which may not correlate with effort, mind you -- but those include Kane and Randy Orton in the same years that Punk was around.

Pete Dune is defending against Americans now anyway, so only a matter of time until a none be it wins it.

Probably doesn't help the UK roster is really tiny. Like 6-7 guys at most and 4 of those are the actual core of the division.

Yeah they've essentially been using Trent Seven infrequently, not sure if he's ever won a match on NXT though. Wolfgang and Andrews have been one and done challengers and Tyler Bate vs Pete Dunne has happened more times than either of them have shown up.

The other signed guys have either shown up on that one episode of 205 Live or done absolutely nothing.

So Meltzer is reporting that Almas vs. Sullivan was scheduled to be the Takeover match in New Orleans, which just does not make sense to me. But Sullivan is apparently no where to be seen at tapings or house shows and hasn't been to the PC. Meltz can't find out any more information. Injury? Angle? Release?

Could just be rest and/or NXT needing some time to work on actual plans for Sullivan.

Same for the Iconic Duo's disappearance in recent months which was stated to be just Creative not having them as part of the current plans for the Women's Division. There is a rumor going around implying both got boob jobs but nothing to collaborate it from the usual sheet sources.

Seems Jason Jordan's current injury woes are way worse than originally expected. Instead of it being a regular back injury that just needed some extra rest, its a serious neck injury affecting the nerves as far down as his hands.

Observer had a recent update on this situation and right now Jordan needs major surgery done and likely out for at least a year.

Meltzer compared Jordan's neck issues with Arn Anderson in 1997 which caused his retirement. The surgery he needs is similar to the one Paige had.

Did they just retcon the whole thing? I thought one of the Bushwhackers had the shortest rumble time? Since they don't seem to show that "by the numbers" thing they used to every year (I don't remember seeing it anymore since Roman supposedly got the record for eliminations).

And Curtis Axel is still in the rumble from a few years ago, making him the longest entrant to date. That "elimination" by Dean Ambrose after the fact doesn't count. He has a Cal Ripken-like streak that will never be broken.

So, (given the history or Paige and/or Arn) Jordan has 5-6 years (at best) of ("quality") in-ring time left? Seems like a giant waste and/or (at least) a huge risk investing in him as a "future" in ring talent?

Emperor Smeat

Maybe less for best case. If what the Observer reports is true, all going to depending on his recovery and if WWE is a lot more cautious bringing him back than with Paige.

Supposedly with Paige, she was healthy enough to be medically cleared but its been speculated her neck wasn't completely ready to handle WWE's work schedule again. She probably needed several more months for her neck and to gradually transition back to an regular active wrestler instead of the 1-2 months she got.

Wow. Jason Jordan letting his daddy down. Kurt won a freaking gold medal with a broken freaking neck; Jason can't even show up to work for like a year. I guess the old saying "like father, like son" does not apply here.

Seriously though hope he is able to make a full recovery. The program he has been in has been awful but he is a tremendous talent in the ring. Lots of potential in the future. Would be a loss for the WWE if he has to retire and I'd hate to see all his hard work go to waste.

I think WWE need to be concerned about the speed and frequency their guys are working. Nowadays guys are doing suicide dives nightly and they don't even get a pop.

Tell a story, write a hot angle. Sometimes one punch means a lot more than a 450 to the outside.

Get back to story writing and you wont need to have guys killing themselves every night just to try and get some sort of reaction. Paige and Jordon news should make those in power think. Doubtful though.

Seems WWE went with another option for Jordan's current neck issues. Instead of doing major surgery and him being out for a long time, they went with minor surgery and doing a "wait and see" approach for his neck.

A day after he was written off television for the time being, Jason Jordan underwent "minimally invasive" neck surgery today.

WWE.com announced that Jordan underwent a procedure called a "minimally invasive posterior cervical microdiscectomy" this morning. The announcement noted that the timetable for Jordan's return isn't yet known.

"He had an injury to a disc in his neck which resulted in significant pain that was refractory to all conservative measures,” Dr. Joseph Maroon said. “It was decided to do a minimally invasive operation to decompress the nerve, to allow it to heal.”

Meanwhile, “Jack” returned to Raw on April 17th, after the decision not to charge was made. The women’s relationship was now fully in “Single White Female” mode, and Stratus brought out Jack, bound and gagged, and challenged James with a King Solomon-esque test. The ostensible point of the segment is summed up by Jack’s one line, spoken when Trish briefly un-gagged him: “I think both you bitches are crazy!” Announcer Joey Styles, plugging their rematch, said that, “They might wanna have that women’s championship match inside of a rubber room at the asylum. What do you think, guys?” Color commentator Jerry Lawler could only muster a “Wow” in response.

The tanning attendant] came in crying, and we knew it was Vince McMahon walking out, and she asked me if it would be fine if I came in the store until the cops came,” Wells said, adding that he also obliged her request to bring a baseball bat. “I don’t know what a baseball bat’s gonna do to someone like this, but OK, I said I’ll bring one with me because hey, I’m only 17 years old at the time.”

As they waited for the police with the door locked, Wells says that McMahon sat in his car staring them down “for a good 45 minutes” after turning his car around to face the store, eventually leaving just a few minutes before the police showed up. Wells got the impression that the police “didn’t really want to talk to me, honestly, and that’s probably why there’s not a lot of the statement,” because he didn’t witness anything in the salon even if he saw the aftermath. Wells recounted that McMahon staying in his car on the premises for so long is what especially scared his friend. “You know how big that guy is,” Wells said. “He scared me a little bit, too.”

 WWE's grand plan for Ronda Rousey is to use her mainly to make Steph into a bigger mainstream star.

WWE wants something in the Austin-Vince tier for Steph's mainstream stardom.

As far as Rousey goes, the key item not really talked about is the goals and a major reason why she is there from a company standpoint. All the different questions about her value to the company financially I’m told are secondary.

The key to Rousey is more about Stephanie McMahon, which is why they want that super high-profile match (and if they can get Johnson, it makes it even more high-profile). Stephanie McMahon is a big star in wrestling, but she is not a mainstream star at all. It was explained to me that the key in all this goes back to what made Vince McMahon a big star, which was the program with Steve Austin, and what made Steve Austin a breakthrough star past being a pro wrestling top guy, which was hardly an interview at King of the Ring or the WrestleMania match with Bret Hart, as legend has it, but the angle in Fresno with Mike Tyson.

Rousey is a major sports star. The idea that she was the single most searched female athlete in the U.S. on the Internet in 2017, a year she never competed and for the most part laid low in, speaks volumes. The idea for the program is to make Stephanie a star outside of just the pro wrestling world.

A more positive note.

Even though Vince McMahon said at the XFL press conference that there would be no changes as far as his role in WWE with the forming of the league, the feeling is that Paul Levesque will gain a lot more control just based on the fact he’ll have to because there are only 24 hours a day. He is assembling his team in NXT which is where the Jeremy Borash thing from last week is a lot bigger than just a hire of a guy, and there are other people who have been talked to of late with the idea of being his team and coming up to fill the key positions when he’s in charge, whether that’s next year or the year after. Running NXT to satisfy insider fans is very different than WWE, but there are also good points to it when you look at the presentation of NXT and the booking and long-term plans that don’t change as frequently, and the more organic feel that are a good thing

Makes sense with Brash rejecting offers from WWE last year and accepting this year citing the "changing landscape in wrestling".

According to the Observer, Impact Wrestling is running out of money again and have been late paying workers. Unlike previous times, the locker room is a lot more pissed off since its directly affecting their pay on the indies. They are giving up guaranteed and on-time pay checks since Impact is likely using that indies money for their own financial problems.

The never-ending pay issues are that now the checks come six weeks after the appearance and some guys now, since Impact is booking guys for indie dates, are mad at losing their own indie dates where they’ll get paid that night and working indie dates for Impact where they’ll be paid six weeks later instead.

Watching Halloween Havoc '97 MST3K style with Tony Schiavone's What Happened When podcast. Greatest "oblivious referee" moment I've ever seen happens at the end of the Steve McMichael vs Alex Wright match.

Debra gets on the apron to distract the ref, Charles Robinson. Goldberg gets in the ring and spears Mongo and his head comes about a foot from hitting the ref's leg. Debra decides to step down off the apron at that moment and the ref starts to turn around but practically turns face to face with Goldberg who now has Mongo up for the jackhammer. Ref turns back to Debra and starts scolding her again while she's standing on the outside now. After the jackhammer, he starts to turn back around but Goldberg is still in the ring picking up Alex Wright to put him on Mongo and the ref sees this and quickly turns around AGAIN to keep talking to Debra who has been off the apron for quite a while now.

It's seriously the worst clueless ref moment ever. lol

Could see it happening whenever this current brand split era ends. By that point they'd have enough women on the main roster to support more titles. Only way it wouldn't happen is if WWE experiences a big percentage drop in women in the company.

The Observer or PWInsider did some math recently and the current split is around 60%-40% in favor of male wrestlers when you combine the main roster, NXT, and Performance Center.

Used to be a lot higher a few years ago for men but shows how much NXT and the Performance Center has been changing things for the WWE. Also helps the MYC added more new women to the WWE.

Like the men, a big batch of the women are never going to go beyond the Performance Center. Then you have another big batch moving towards NXT promotion but not for another 2-3 years due to their raw skills.

They would have to create a new name if a secondary title was introduced as I don't think "Women's United States Championship"/"Women's Intercontinental Championship" would work.

You would probably get people complaining and claiming that "throwing "Women's" in-front of male exclusive things isn't equality" or whatever. An entirely new name would be needed as it also wouldn't look like the WWE were being lazy and just trying to score cheap equality points.

They would probably call it the "WWE Revolution Championship" or something. They don't seem to be so great with names these days.

It's been around a year and a half now and the Universal Championship still sounds slightly "meh".

I don't think looking lazy and trying to score cheap equality points is anything WWE is above.

I remember seeing this when I was like 15 and not understanding how this wasn't the most popular thing of all time.Looking back a lot of those early ring of honor cards were absolute dog shit. Those main events absolutely saved them.

According to Jerry Lawler, Memphis Wrestling is returning to television starting this April.

Past few months he was helping Memphis Wrestling shop their tv revival around to potential networks before finally getting a deal done.

Jerry Lawler announced on the Cerrito Live podcast that Memphis Wrestling will return to local televisions in April with a weekly broadcast on Channel 30.

They will air new episodes on Saturday mornings at 11 a.m.

Based on recent rumblings going around the net, seems the Elgin harassment situation is becoming an even uglier situation in the indies and affecting more people.

This time its affecting Powerbomb TV who streams IWA MS shows and has caused split within the company over Elgin being booked for these shows. One co-owner wants no restrictions on Elgin matches being shown while the other does not want it shown and has no problem with IWA MS keeping it as dark matches only.

Making things worse for Powerbomb TV is Elgin allegedly threatened the co-owner who wanted his matches yanked from live airing.

Other indies that run shows on the service are really worried this is going to get a lot more ugly. They are worried at a boycott happening, mass exodus in subscribers, and their rep getting damaged by association.

I've been waiting for this, to be honest.

Next roster shakeup rumored to be occurring this April based on recent ad changes made by Ticketmaster.

Backlash went from being a RAW exclusive event this year to now a mix brand event based on those who supposedly got recent notices from Ticketmaster.

Obviously haven't watched it, but read the results. Putting Strowman in some "humorous" segments is ridiculous.
