Just got back from a GCW show in LA. X-Pac & Joey Janela vs Matt Cardona & Brian Meyers.

After Pac and Janela won the match, Pac got on the mic and was saying that if this was his last match, he wouldn’t want to go out any other way than with Janela as his partner. Janela looked extremely emotional, hugged Pac and then superkicked the fuck out of him which shocked everyone in the crowd.

A damn near riot happened. People throwing beer cans and buckets into the ring. Janela going after fans in the first row. Shit was bonkers.

In fairness I guess it being a title unification match does make it a rather big deal in the scheme of things, at least if they actually follow through on this. Wonder if they merge the rosters too? Wish they would. I think they've cut enough talent that they can afford to do it now without a TON of people getting lost in the shuffle.

In kayfabe it is, the 2 World Champs in a Unification match is the biggest Wrestlemania match ever. They have had 2 World Championships since Wrestlemania 18 technically, and they held off doing this for 21 years. And again, we are talking in terms of Kayfabe for an actual match they have been building to. This isn't some nerd who promises something "HUGE" every time his show doesn't get a million viewers.

I’m not saying “best” and I actually said I don’t like the term “biggest.” But if you actually take your smark cap off and look at this from a promotional standpoint, where you’re trying to sell something, Brock vs. Roman has 7 years build. Maybe even more if you want to go back to the streak ending (Roman and Brock are the only 2 guys to ever beat The Undertaker at WrestleMania). You can also factor in Heyman’s relationship with the family and Brock beating Rock (but that’s a stretch).

Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar will be the only match to headline Mania thrice. Between them, they’ve spent more time as champion than any other match in Mania history. Going by stats, it is the biggest match in Mania history…on paper.

Yeah Evolution started and then Batista and Orton got injured in the same match, with a similar recovery time, but then Batista re-tore his triceps while rehabbing. When Orton came back that is when Vince wanted Jindrax, but Triple H and Flair didnt think it would work, and convinced Vince they should just be a 3 man group until Batista came back.

"The smallest wrestler in the world" is now under contract with MLW.

It was announced today that Microman has signed a multi-year deal with MLW. The mini luchador made his MLW debut on last week's episode of Fusion, teaming with Aramis & El Dragon to defeat Arez, Gino Medina & Mini Abismo Negro in a trios match.

The 23-year-old Microman was introduced on Fusion as part of an angle where MLW's Mister Saint Laurent hyped that he had scoured the world in search of the "best pound-for-pound fighter."

Microman was also in action at MLW's SuperFight tapings in Charlotte, North Carolina this past weekend. Spoilers for those tapings can be found here.

Microman made his in-ring debut in 2017. He departed CMLL last year.

NXT Black & Gold definitely felt wrong. And it led to everyone forming attachments to acts who were not going to presented that way on the main roster, causing an inherent disconnect. It’s probably way better to have a show that is going to generate someone like Bron Breakker than it is a show where the top guy is Adam Cole.

WWE production is too glossy and the direction is terrible. The direction in AEW is often pretty bad — lots of tech flubs — and the commentary is awful, but not as stilted as WWE. Neither company really hits it out of the park. WWE’s video packages are amazing though.

I just watched a clip on Facebook today of Heath Slater beating him up and I no longer care about him. Sure, he could be rehabbed but I don’t care to watch and wait for it. Best case scenario, he evened the score with Heath Slater.

People like to pretend that guys like Brock Lesnar can job endlessly to nobodies and it doesn’t matter because they have outside credibility. But when you view someone as credible and then you see them being treated as not credible on a show, you very easily set your mind to “Oh. They’re not credible on this show, therefore I don’t care about them on this show… Therefore I won’t watch this show.”

It’s weird that some people don’t grasp this concept.

This is the current industry on the whole. Both "major" places are doing majorly wrong shit in two divirgent directions.

AEW has burned through a full decade worth of angles, debuts, matches, and "big moments" in their barely 3 years of existence because there is no constraint or control, while WWE has gone so far up their own ass, that they are a wrestling company that doesn't even want to be a wrestling company resulting in a lot of boring, predictable shit and nostalgia acts because they forgot how to work talent up the card. AEW pretends everyone knows everything going on in the entire wrestling world "because social media" instead of following the axiom of "every show is someone's first time"... while WWE pretends the wrestling world outside of their own current product - which often even includes their own goddamn history - doesn't exist.

I personally wish there were greater equilibrium. Or at the very least, a stable place where that can exist.

Even though that comment was supposed to be some inflaming hot take, he's kinda right. The problem, though, is that was supposed to be. That's how a service works. It was looking like it was going to subsudize itself by running its own touring, but then it didn't. Another issue for another thread.

They were doing it right. But then, they proceeded to fuck up nearly every call-up from Bo Dallas onward. People who got called up oftent got fucked with or minimized or gimmick completely changed. Leo Kreuger was a threatening madman... can't have that... let's make him fake Russel Brand who leads a parade of furries and cosplayers to the ring for a couple of months until Vince gets sick of his own idea. Asuka was a world beater who chainsawed through bitches Goldberg style in handicap matches, but then could barely handle a woman who was about to be fired from the main roster. Let's take masks off all the luchadors, but then put masks on peple everyone has seen before! Meanwhile, people who got negative over like Baron Corbin were figured in. He still sucks, all these years later, just not nearly as much. They've had more supposed "failures" than successes, but there come a point where you have to realize that maybe it isn't the process itself that failed, but WWE moving goalposts and sometimes even outright changing the sport midgame without telling any of the players.

NXT is similar to the idea of the RAW/Smackdown brand split in that if you're not going to operate the function what it's for, why even have it? The end result was supposed to be this factory of ready-made superstars, but then fuck with the formula on whatever got them over instead of continuing to use that. I can train somebody to do my desk job almost perfectly, but if my boss then decides to take that person and stick them in the kitchen, that trainee shouldn't then be told they're a shitty employee for being a bad cook. That wasn't what they were trained in and not what they expected.

There are tons of people waiting around to see exactly how they fuck Rex Steiner up outise of the stupid name, because it's been a thing for so long that it is expected that they'll drop the ball on him. It is viewed as more an inevitablity than it should even ever be on paper. And when that day comes, all the excuses will fly in about how he must have done or said something bad, or his dad or uncle did or said something bad, instead of the simpler, but more heartbreaking possibility of WWE not knowing what the fuck they're doing anymore in the way similar to a SquareEnix being surprised at their successes with classic turn based RPGs in spite of BOTH companies the name is comprised of building a nearly 20 year pre-merger reputation on exactly that genre fairly exclusively.

NXT was never a true developmental promotion until now. I think it's even a stretch to say it was used to get guys used to the wwe style, because the style in nxt was still different from the main roster.

So you're not wrong, but you know what? Fuck it. I like good wrestling, and pre tv deal nxt was some of the best modern wrestling out there. You know what I don't like? Watching green wrestlers learn how to work. An occasional match or two? Sure. But Bron Breaker aside, everyone else on that show is hard to watch. And not in the fun power plant way.

AEW is putting on great shows almost every week. WWE is putting together a pretty fun Road to Wrestlemania... Roman a clear cut best in the world right now and Lesnar right behind him, ROH in the hand of Tony Khan, tons of big name talent on the market, the Rock soon to launch a major sports league and John Cena putting out his best work ever for HBO and DC. Almost every wrestling library available for less than the cost of one DVD or VHS from 1999. This is really a hell of a time to be a wrestling fan.

It’s crazy how no one does that now. But I guess when you’ve got an industry built around people doing physical damage to their bodies on purpose for a rapidly shrinking audience, you’re not exactly dealing with the brightest minds humanity has.

William Regal's appearance on Talk Is Jericho is a tough listen. He, pretty much unprompted, explains all the health issues he went through in recent years, including, but not limited to: open heart surgery, being given days to live, almost losing a leg, fracturing his eye socket, and discovering that he had been wrestling with a broken neck since 1993.

He gets openly emotional and cries at a couple of points but, in a typically Regal way, it's not really when discussing his health, but when talking about how proud he was of Bryan Danielson carrying him to a good match when he was injured, and how proud the wrestlers in the first WWE UK tournament made him feel by showing up looking like "proper professionals".

I could listen to him read the phone book, so I'm glad they're doing a second part at some point. To his credit, Jericho rarely interjects either, he just lets Regal talk.

Shit like this is just stupid. Orton, Riddle and Rey totally count as top babyfaces. Just because they have a tag team partner doesn’t disqualify them from that. Also, Brock technically counts as being on the roster for all intents and purposes. Then you’ve also got the female babyfaces. Just so fucking stupid.

I don’t think there was a plan for RK-Bro to last this long but it caught on so they’re rolling with it for now but they could very easily pull either/both guys over to the singles ranks if they wanted to. It would pull a good portion of the tag division apart but that’s pretty standard. They’ve done a good job of putting a spotlight on Alpha Academy to support there but could do with trying elevate some other teams around them but tag wrestling is rarely a priority.

They’ve also got Owens, Rollins, even Lashley they can turn at some point. I’d hold off the first 2 as they’ve not longed turned in Owens case, and Rollins last face run might stil leave a bad taste in the mouth for now.
