Semi related: Mrs. Ambrose has already be ruint. When she started on the desk, she sounded like she was actually there calling shit. I wonder, on a scale, where everyone would fit in people appreciating what they can do in the booth if they were allowed to just "be". Pretty sure Cole would be seen in a better light. Apparently Seth Rollins is currently injured but its not serious enough to jeopardize his Mania plans.

Seth Rollins is the most notable and he is said to be dealing with an issue that predated the angle with Brock Lesnar last Monday. He is off live events for the time being and not expected to be used on Raw this Monday to recover. We were told that he will only be doing promos with no physicality for the next month on television.


Another potential blow for RAW involves Elias since its rumored he's getting his tv time cut by a lot if his feud with Jeff Jarrett isn't successful. Apparently WWE thought his face run would have been a big hit with casual fans but he wasn't generating anywhere near the merch sales nor outside interest they were expecting. Making things worse is the rumor of WWE doesn't think he has the charisma or skills needed to be a big star.

I agree. I enjoyed Michael Cole and Tazz on Smackdown during the original brand extension. He's certainly more than bearable when he's not overproduced (Beast in the East, Original UK tournament etc.). How was his work in the 2018 May Young Classic tournament? Also, while his heel run was tragic, his NXT season 3 compilations are quite amusing.

Okay, I was thinking about this before I heard the news. Since NXT is where the women get treated really well, it would make sense for them to be "competitive" and put together a genuinely great tag team scene, probably led by Io Shirai & Kairi Sane.

It seems silly at first, but it will no doubt turn out better on the main roster, if just for the Takeover matches. They might get some genuine tag teams together too.

To me, the more ridiculous title right now is the North American one. The belt looks good, and I guess it hasn't hurt anyone yet, but what is the point? Adam Cole and Ricochet got runs, but are either of them better off for them? It's just...another belt. If a belt gets someone more over, then I guess it serves a purpose, and I tried to head canon that for those guys, but it doesn't really make a difference if they are fighting over something physically tangible or not.

Only reason the North American belt exists is due to NXT's roster getting too bloated in talent due to WWE's hoarding issues.

On paper, its just meant to give a meaningful reason for non-NXT title feuds but its been handled pretty poorly which is a bit ironic since its meant to be the equivalent of the IC/US belts and those don't get handled well on the main roster.

That's akin to someone being mentored on the stick by Paul Heyman; Paul E is one of the best who ever did it, but he pretty much also has carte blance to say whatever the fuck he wants. Joe Blow NXT callup most likely won't have such a luxury. If he had the ability to consistently do over the years what he did on A Beast In The East or post production redubs with Tazz during the Heyman run of Smackdown, there might be a higher opinion of him now.

Renee Young is okay, but dramatically less so when it literally sounds like she's getting fed what she's supposed to say word for word with pauses in between one cringy statement to the next just long enough to be the next line for her to repeat. Not saying she's the next Heenan, but pretty sure her stock would rise if she were allowed to ginuinely react and speak about the matches she's supposedly watching and commentating on. It doesn't mean she's terrible, but it does mean she doesn't get to work on becoming better.

I just think people make too many excuses for Michael Cole. He stank during the Attitude Era as well.

And I think Renee, while hamstrung on commentary (as is everyone else), is wasted in the booth even if she had free reign. She's great doing interviews. And I mean that 100% as a compliment. Gene Okerlund was a very mediocre commentator but was brilliant as the event centre/interview guy. Frankly, why woud I want to hear Renee commentate even if she had freedom? What would she bring to the able? Certainly no PBP pedigree. However, she's a brilliant facilitator (or a least very good), so why waste those talents?

Triple H and Vince McMahon have very different goals. I think Triple H is still trying to "get over" in his position. NXT is a niche programming thing designed to get people in the door and provide content for the Network. It's in his best interest to make sure effort goes in to getting talent over for that audience.

Vince has got 5+ hours a week to fill. He wants drones he can plug in. If you're not going to come in and be over, then he'll just move on to someone who can be. He's not about to try and put effort into carefully crafting a journey around someone arbitrarily unless he wants to.

Probably a mix of both. He pulled similar antics with his feud against Johnny Impact the last time he was in the company. His recent stuff against Sami Callihan do seem to be more legit resentful.

Also pretty much might have spoiled Impact's big announcement of a former champion appearing at their Mania weekend show with his recent antics.

In Vince/creatives defence, what can you really do with gimmicks like this. Hey Brock, next month we want you to fight the guy who plays an air guitar.

I know I don't really watch current wrestling but when I see a guy like Eric with his looks and charisma, I'm getting him as far away from comedy as possible.

Like then I see this new Eric guy, I immediately thought Inigo Montoya from Princess Bride/Ravishing Rick Rude. The hair, the physique, swooning ladies off their feet .The ladies love him but the guys hate him because women find him irresistible.

WWE's been horrendous when it comes to transitioning wrestlers from NXT and supposedly its due to them not really keeping tabs or caring what goes down there.

Its also due to Triple H having to balance needing to prove to investors he can run a company and knowing Creative is going to botch the handling of call-ups.

Even when NXT hands them gimmicks that are very flexible or useful for the main roster, WWE still finds a way to botch things like with the recent batch of callups.

Braun's been the best raw talent got from NXT and Creative still found ways to botch his stardom rise and popularity.

Honestly they should scrap 205 live, fold the vast majority of the talent into NXT and give them the additional time. NXT is the best product WWE puts out and I would watch more of it.

Might be better to just put them back on RAW considering NXT is already too stacked with talent. Even adding more time might still not be enough to spread quality time around with Cruiser guys.

At least with RAW, they have a lot of time available and their biggest problem is filling it out with interesting content each week. At least on paper, Cruisers would be a lot more useful there than on NXT.

Seems WWE was worried CBS might consider trademarking the term "Then Now Forever" after airing the phrase during last week's Super Bowl festivities.

There was a rumor recently about WWE starting to become very wary of their tv ratings woes and taking a lot more risks to find stuff that sticks with audiences.

If that's the case, it's totally self-fulfilling.

A couple of pages ago, it looks like an argument took place about Bugenhagen (a name I can't repeat without thinking of Final Fantasy VII) and indy neckbeards digging it and getting him over or somesuch. While it may be true that *that* might not work on a grander stage (but maybe it will... you don't know that from a single appearance), the bigger issue is NOTHING seems to work on a bigger stage for one reason or another, and a lot of those reasons are self-inflicted. In the span of that show, Bugenhagen showed his charisma, Gulak had a decent match and put him away, but not in a one-sided beatdown that made it look like he didn't belong, then cut a good promo calling out competition, which drew the attention of Matt Riddle, and led to a very good match between Gulak and RVD-lite, ending with a show of respect between the two. Later, Eric came back out and danced again, and got a pop for it.

So, you had an ok match, a damn good match, three guys showing their own brand of charisma, and all three guys coming out better on the other side of that, and got interest for people to see more of them sometime in the future.

Had something like this transpired on the main roster, Bugenhagen would be totally made to look and sound like a chump in both squash match fashion and from constant berating from the booth. Then, Gulak and Riddle would have just fought to a no-contest so they can hurry up and show Liv Tyler stretching backstage or have that one chick who asks stupid and obvious questions to some wrestler so she can point her tits to the camera . They'd announce a match in passing for Drew and Matt for 205 Live, and you'd never see or hear from any of those three again for a couple of months unless they need a jobber to feed to Bobby Lashley or something.

Main roster WWE continues to tell people through writing, booking, and actions that:

- The only people worth a damn are stars who got over maybe about ten to twenty years ago... and ironically, some of them were seen as not stars to hang their hat on to carry the company back then.

- Any new NXT callup is either only worth being a surprise Royal Rumble entrant at the least, and maybe about a month worth of hype at the most, and then all the shiny gets rubbed off of them in short order.

There is no reason why Bobby Roode should be tagging with Chad Gable outside of not knowing what to do with Gable besides tossing him into random tag teams for a majority of his time in WWE. Roode had everything to be fast tracked into being taken seriously (fast tracked, not hotshotted) and had a working gimmick, music, plus the ability in the ring and on the stick. So, what has he done? Feuded with Dolph Ziggler who shit on that. Roode didn't come out better proving he's "more than an entrance", he just fell to where almost everyone else is: a face in the crowd.

- The Women's Evolution has been distilled into all the women falling into one of two categories: gimmicks where they're badasses, or gimmicks being that they are hot.

- If getting over isn't in the plan for that person, they get derailed instead of rolling with whatever unless there is sustained pushback that actively fucks up some plan. Conversely, they will beat a horse to death, perform CPR, then beat it to death again if they want something no matter how much it clearly isn't over.

Balor was brought in as a big deal, but he got hurt, so fuck him, and it took quite a long time to finally decide to push him back up the card to where he was to begin with. Slow trigger pull on Becky. A retconned trigger pull on Bayley even though she got the "about time" pop from folks. A cynnical push for Jinder for marketing reasons, multiple failed opportunities for a heel turn for Roman to warrant the boos, finding ways to stick Charlotte Flair (one of the few NXT stars to get more than a fair shake... but gee, I wonder why) into the top spot of either women's divison even if it is at the detriment of any other talent... the list goes on.

It's almost like 80% of anything compelling on the main roster is totally accidental, like Nia being sloppy and punching Becks in the face for realsies. You couldn't make that up, and that was a short-term angle handed to them on a platter, and they still found a way to fuck that up and kill interest in seeing Nia get a reciept... and that's the other 20%; staying to see exactly how they are going to fuck up the next project.

Random question: With so much talent under contract and many of them being vocally unsatisfied with their positions and the openings to be used better, what do you think the chances are that WWE does something bizarre and drastic. Even if we’re not in the mood for even more WWE content, would it be so outlandish for WWE to announce that they are launching a third brand? Ever since the FOX deal was announced, I’ve kind of had it in the back of my mind that WWE may not be willing to give up Tuesdays.

AEW is also gaining traction. I can see Vince wanting to do his old trick of directly competing in order to block out AEW or limit their audience. When they did the Halftime Heat show recently, I think at least part of it was to gauge public interest for an NXT show. They have their Network numbers, but they keep that quiet, and it’s limited by how many possible subscribers they can reach.

With live events being quieter and all the money being in TV, and with them wanting more Network minutes, without them needing to fret about PPV buys, I’ve just been wondering about the chances of them doing something completely surreal and launching something of a semi-autonomous Tuesday brand, and actually having it be run by either Shane or Triple H, with its own production team, writing crew, agents and aesthetic, but able to use WWE trademarks and hide their specials under the safety of the Network.

Is this something that USA or FOX would care about? Would they feel it saturates their marketplace too much? Is it potentially a good idea? Is it inherently awful?

I’ve always been against WWE running any sort of “WCW One Night Stand” shows. It’s a dead brand and it never had the same “cult appeal” that an ECW had. But I read something about the WCW trademarks coming up. I doubt WWE let them go. What if Vince McMahon thought “Fuck it. I miss the days of competition and I want to give Shane something to run. I can make the XFL something, dammit, I can have my WCW the way I wanted it in 2001.”

Is it just too out of character for Vince to back a wrestling promotion he’s not going to micromanage? It was the plan at one point, and Vince loves proving that he was right all along.

Seems ROH could be dealing with a Good/Bad case scenario for their G1 Supercard show. The good being that it quickly sold out but the bad being that around 4k tickets are currently on the secondary market which could led to the situation of a lot of empty seats when the show airs.

I would love for Smackdown to close the show like they did at TLC. I don't believe the female performers in the tag team title chamber match are strong enough to close the show.
