According to the Observer, WWE is currently interested in signing Hangman Page and have recently sent him an offer but he turned it down for the time being.

In this morning's episode of Wrestling Observer Radio Dave Meltzer shed some light on WWE's interest in Bullet Club stand out "Hangman" Adam Page.

Speculation about WWE's interest in Page stemmed from the most recent episode of Being The Elite. In the episode, The Young Bucks give Page a pair of cowboy boots as a present with a note that was signed, "Nice Try. If you want to be an assassin try being more cerebral. - H". Teasing, of course, that the boots could be from WWE in an attempt to lure him to sign.

Meltzer noted that there may be more to this story than a simple joke on BTE. According to Meltzer, WWE did apparently make an offer to Page recently. According to what he's heard from WWE sources, Page turned them down. He went on to say, however, that from others he spoke to Page simply told WWE that he just didn't want to come right now, "because it's not the group and the group's sticking together."


Also another recent rumor going around the net teases at WWE preparing another major raid of the indies with the goal to have it done by January. Goal would be to wreck ROH and other indies plans for next year's series of Mania weekend shows.

I'm not sure if he's had a birthday since, but last time I checked, Hangman Page was only 27 years old. He could do a lot more time in Japan and ROH to really bolster his skills and cred with fans. I think he would be wise to take the William Regal tap and do more work elsewhere before he becomes WWE Gentrified.

Cody Rhodes is kind of the figurehead of the indy lifestyle right now. For him to go back too soon would kind of piss that away a bit. He's better off working in New Japan, hopefully putting something in place that isn't there. That extra gear that gets thing to a main event level. He can take guys "under his wing" (kayfabe) and put them into position where other indy guys leave and go "north" (if that's still an expression you can use).

The interesting two parties are Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks. With Omega, he's cache is probably at the highest now. If he bails out before the Garden show, then Vince is going to go ga-ga for him. They won't push him "mega-hard" right away, because they don't want to blow up their structure and reward guys working opposite them, but if he "turns coat" (even if it's just him taking a job when his contract expires), I can see him being in a great position for climbing. More of an initial Kevin Owens position and less of a Neville position, if that makes sense. I could see Vince actually doing the Styles vs. Omega match at Mania if Omega signs. But if he does another year, works the Garden and whatever else, by the time he gets to his contract expiring, he runs the risk of being a guy who was hot a year ago, two years ago, etc.

The Young Bucks are at a stage where they could get cache by signing now too. I think they have more to lose, in the sense that they have gotten themselves over as "other," so if they jump, they instantly lose that appeal. But Young Bucks fans are surely not the brightest sparks, so you can easily return to the indies after flopping and say "We were too hot for mainstream!" and they will piss their pants. So in a weird sort of way, the time might be right for them now. They've still got The New Day together, they've got a potential retirement match against The Hardys. If they wait too long, the anticipation might crush them when they are just another team coming in.

For the record: I don't think any of them sign. I don't think they're as smart as people think, but I think it will have more to do with loyalty to this ethos they have created. But if I were in their shoes, and I'm a dude who was really hoping Bryan would leave WWE, I think they should give the timing right now a good hard think.

Sid also goes into detail about a few uncomfortable situation he had with Patterson when he first started in WWE as well as the sexual molestation accusations regarding other former company employees that were ultimately settled out of court with Patterson resigning for a time until the sexual scandals blew over.

Well he tells three stories. It was actually a bit tough to understand what he was saying at times and English is my first language.

Story 1: He tells a story of him going to see how the WWE did their recording and generally how everything worked before he officially joined the company and then later going to the gym with Vince.

After the gym, he says he was having dinner with Vince and Pat Patterson was also there.

Vince leaves the table to go to the bathroom and Patterson leans over to Sid and says "What an ass on that guy!". He then says "I heard you guys had a really good work out today, Sid!" and Sid replies with "Yeah Pat, it was just a work out".

He continues by saying that this happened in Canada and that night there was a lightning storm and when they arrived at the hotel, Patterson asked Sid "Do you want to come to my balcony and watch the lightning tonight?" and Sid declined but Patterson then grabbed Sid and shouted "I've got the big somebitch in a waistlock!".

Sid then freaks out and without any knowledge of chain wrestling, he quickly wrestles out of Patterson's grip and says that he's going to his room. Sid then says that he was really scared that night. Later that night Sid convinced himself (probably because he was so scared) that Patterson kept walking by his room.

Story 2: He mentions another time when they were overseas and when he saw a group of little boys outside the hotel and he asks The Warlord what they're doing there and The Warlord tells him that Mel Phillips was getting them tickets and that later he (Mel) was going to take them to his hotel room and play with their feet.

Story 3: He says that he, Kerry Von Erich and Paul Diamond arrived at the arena an hour early as they left Boston early to beat the traffic and when Sid walked into the locker room, he saw Terry Garvin with a young jobber and he noticed that both of their clothes were all ruffled, he then thinks the worst but does say anything. Instead he just sits down and doesn't look at them.

Sid then says (and I'm assuming Terry Garvin has gone at that point) that the jobber said to him "Hey man, I don't wanna do this, I just want to be a wrestler, I just want to go home to my girlfriend, I don't have nothing to do with this". Sid then tells the guy that he isn't trying to be a jerk to him but that he isn't going to be successful in this business and that he should just go and never come back and the jobber did just that.

It was a fun gimmick that didn't take itself too serious but it also wasn't cringeworthy like it could have been. It was genuinely an entertaining gimmick.

You can't trademark War Games. It's a common phrase/movie.

You can for wrestling related stuff but not the concept of the match itself which is why WWE is able to hold their own match and event but as "WarGames" instead of "War Games."

Only real tricky thing to trademark in wrestling is real names since neither WWE nor MLW can do it without getting special permission from that person to license the name to them. Its how Ryback managed to beat WWE's attempts at taking away his wrestling trademark since he made it part of his legal name.

Observer recently confirmed some of the terms WWE makes for their partnerships with other companies. They pretty much de facto own EVOLVE, PROGRESS, and a couple other promotions.

Their new deal with Germany's wXw promotion likely included the same terms that pretty much hands over the company and their library to the WWE.

The company also confirmed a deal with WWE. We don’t know if this was the case with this deal, but WWE’s deals working with other companies are that WWE would allow its talent on shows and also have the right to purchase the promotion at an agreed upon price should they choose to do so, as well as own the library. We don’t know that this deal is similar to other deals. But WWE is looking for independent libraries when they add tiers to the WWE Network. Robbie Brookside and Canyon Ceman of WWE were at the training school scouting talent last week and were looking for talent to bring to a November tryout in Cologne

I realized the reason I have felt so burnt out by WWE lately isn't the amount of content they produce, it's the fact none of it matters.

Everything is completely inconsequential. It's a weird creative trend they started 4-5 years ago, but nothing that happens has any lasting impact now. It wasn't always like that, it's a creative shift. Stipulations have no meaning. PPV matches have no meaning, they'll just be a rematch on RAW/SD indefintely the next few weeks. Face turns and Heel turns often have no meaning. Nothing that happens has any consequence.

It's not a quantity issue, it's a creative issue.

Okay, I am not a professional wrestler, and I do think Brie sucks, but couldn't Sarah Logan see where Brie was? Why does she need to phantom trip herself? Why couldn't she just run the ropes near Brie? Or tried to break on Ronda and repeat the finish from the night previous if Brie missed her cue?

In fairness to Shawn Michaels:

He probably could have taken a big paycheck to come back sooner. Maybe not $10 million for one match (and I don't know how much HBK is actually getting paid), but I'm pretty sure that when Rock and Brock blew up WWE's schedule, Michaels could have come back for several dates a year for several million.

Okay, now it's conspiracy theory time:

I called Shawn Michaels coming back as soon as The Rock rumors started coming out. I can't remember if I've posted this here. But as soon as, I think it was Brad Shephard or whatever his name is, said it and he's apparently got a bit of credibility, I was like "Welp, Shawn is going to come back." Why? Because Triple H does not want to be on The Rock's card. If there is going to be a Network spike because a genuine star like The Rock comes back, then Triple H is going to make sure his nose is right in there.

So why Michaels? Because Triple H isn't going to believably going to be able to spike the Network numbers with anyone on the roster currently. He's been doing that for years anyway. I thought about Batista, and I'm sure he was going to get the call if Michaels didn't say yes, but HBK would be the priority, because Shawn Michaels being back is special. Rock has wrestled more recently for the company. There's some believable Network-spiking cache in Shawn Michaels coming back.

And I honestly don't think HBK is coming back for the Saudi match. I think he's coming back to provide a main event act for Triple H to hitch himself to again so he can be a top guy when the WWE Network goes to 2 million subscribers or whatever it does when Rock wins the Royal Rumble. But you can't have Shawn return at the exact same time, because it gets diluted, and when you've got this business deal with the Saudis, you can't omit Shawn Michaels from those shows and have him work, say, just WrestleMania, because it looks disrespectful to them.

So I think Shawn's arm's been twisted by Triple H to make sure that Triple H can be in position come January, February, March and April. The Saudi match is just a necessary evil to get to that. And, to take it a step further, that's why I'm not surprised Triple H beat The Undertaker in Australia, and it wouldn't surprise me if DX wins the tag match with Triple H looking strong. If Triple H gets his way, he'll end up directly opposite The Rock at WrestleMania. They teased it in 2015 a couple of times. At first I thought it might be a match between Shawn Michaels and Triple H at Mania, but then I thought that even Triple H might find that a bit solipsistic. Then I thought it might be a Triple Threat between him, Shawn and Taker. It would allow No DQs, Kane to get involved, Shawn and Taker to pick their spots with ladders, caskets and sledgehammers -- like the "epics" they do in NXT and whenever Triple H needs to do a big match with Taker. And, sure, Taker only had one-on-one matches at WrestleMania, but what's sacred anymore? They're making up their own rules now.

But now I've come around to the idea that Triple H is going to be in the main event of WrestleMania 35 against The Rock. There have been no recent indicators, and the automatic belief seems to be that it will be Roman Reigns vs. The Rock. But if Triple H gets his way, he will end up directly opposite Rock so can be no divisor between them. If they do sell Mania to a television network, he will want that monster rating to his name. He doesn't want there to be any doubt about who was the main attraction on that show. Just like he had to headline in India, he had to headline in Australia, he had to headline at WrestleMania 32. His angle will be that he can take the loss at Mania, but they can't have a top guy like Roman losing at two Manias back-to-back as he's getting established, and Rock will kill him on the mic, and if he doesn't, people will be disappointed. The Saudis apparently Rock as Universal Champion, and you don't bring in Rock to lose, so that will fit that paradigm nicely.

My bold prediction is that Rock wins the Royal Rumble, they tease Roman vs. Rock, but then there is some sort of match, or even just an angle, where Triple H gets the Universal Title. It will probably be because of Shawn Michaels, who will start up issues with Roman Reigns in time for Mania. So Roman isn't being demoted, you see? He's getting to work with Mr. WrestleMania at WrestleMania, and it's a match they can actually put him over in. Roman can keep on being Roman and get the belt back from The Rock at SummerSlam or something. Everybody wins in this scenario, Vince.

And as for why Shawn would say yes. Well, Taker had his moment and didn't go. Staying retired out of respect to him seems frivolous and unnecessary. Plus, his kids are older and might want to see him live (well, his daughter won't in Saudi Arabia). But he also might just fucking want to, because he's Shawn Michaels.

TL;DR: Shawn Michaels isn't coming back because of Saudi Arabia. Shawn Michaels is coming back because of The Rock making Triple H feel insecure about his star power, which has always been the case, historically. Saudi Arabia is a necessary pit-stop to appease WWE's business partners because they can't just have Shawn Michaels and not fly Shawn Michaels to Saudi Arabia.

I can only see bad things coming from Crown Jewel now when it comes to the WWE and the media. Especially if it's revealed before the event that the Saudis did indeed kill Jamal Khashoggi. I can imagine the WWE being put under a lot of pressure to cancel the event.

Part of me can't see Vince doing that though. If he doesn't cancel it even though it's been revealed that Khashoggi was killed by the Saudis, then I have no idea what to expect.

I think it would take a lot of investors to sway Vince's decision to cancel the event.

Honestly, if Vince is ever going to get ousted (and I'm not sure anyone has the power to do that, even with a unanimous vote or whatever), it'd only be if something seriously jeopardized the stock price. Something like this has a better chance of doing it than a shit creative direction. But that's only if it REALLY snowballs, and I don't see it getting much bigger than it is. But if it did, this could potentially be Vince McMahon's most public embarrassment -- more so than even the steroid scandal or the XFL. Slim chance though. But the media isn't always fair and consistent, so if they just decide WWE are evil for having ever accepted money from the Saudis to put on a propaganda show, then that could be a field day. Next could be the hypocrisy of the women's revolution. Pay grade with wrestlers. Independent contractors, concussions, etc. If WWE comes under fire for one thing, they might come under fire for many.

Considering other sponsors and events for Saudi's Vision 2030 plan started pulling out after the new broke, this is pretty much another case of WWE hoping things die down before going forward with something controversial.

The longer they wait to pull out, the less believable their PR excuse will be especially now that they are starting to get heat from the government and sponsors. Same for if they even think about holding another event in the future since its just going to reignite the controversy.

They only really started to take flake for the Saudi deal once they agreed to ban their women wrestlers from the events and releasing propaganda videos hyping up Saudi progress when the opposite was happening. Same for Triple H making things worse by claiming WWE was going to be a leader of change in the country.

Raw:

• I was surprised that Raw kicked off with Benoit. I really wasn't expecting him at all.

Listening to his promo, there were times where I got "Daniel Bryan vibes" from Benoit with the way Benoit was delivering his promo and being all "fired up".

It reminded me of Bryan's "fired up" promos.

• An intergender Tag Team match for the European and Women's Championships.

It's been a while since we've had one of those "two titles on the line" matches and it was a nice match and seeing the European Championship so much makes me miss it a little bit. I would be all for it returning (even a redesigned version) but I get the feeling that if it did, it would have some stupid "rule" attached to it that it could only be fought between wrestlers from European countries or countries that are members of the European Union or even that it can only be defended within the continent of Europe.

We're at this point now where Vince & Co. really like gimmicks to be attached to pretty much everything. Even if it's something as small as purple ropes for Cruiserweight matches.

Saying all that however just made me remember as I was typing that the NXT UK Championship exists and that's pretty much like some kind of bastard child of the European Championship.

At least to me it is anyway. I could (and probably am) wrong with that assumption.

Before the match however, there was a backstage segment with Molly and Regal where Molly said that Spike tried to get to second base with her when they were dating. This allowed Lawler to talk about bases and he came out with a quote that went right over my twelve year old head before the match:

Lawler: I'd like to slide into home with Trish, I know that! Woo-Hoo!"

• Every time I mention how great Booker T and Goldust were and this time isn't going to be any different.

Booker T in this segment was great. Something as silly as him talking about and imitating the nWo's theme and yelling "BASS!" just gave me a good chuckle.

That entire moment was edited out when it was shown over here, so I obviously never knew it happened and I only found out that it happened when I downloaded a file from LimeWire or Kazaa back then that was titled something like "==[WWF FAN ATTACKS WRESTLER]==".

I think Eddie (and also RVD) did a great job of improvising and you could tell that Eddie was really pissed off with what had happened and understandably so.

SmackDown:

• It's crazy to hear Vince say "10 years ago" and then realise that he's talking about 1992.

• Even though it's not supposed to be funny, I found Tajiri to be really funny during this backstage segment.

• In this episode of SmackDown, Dawn Marie makes her debut as "Dawn Marie Rinaldi".

• Lance Storm interfered during Triple H's match against Test and Triple H actually stopped and watched him make his way to the ring, implying that Storm was a threat to him. Lance Storm then got some good hits on Triple H and actually cost Triple H the match.

I know I said it last time about wrestlers today that are in Triple H and Lance Storm's standings in the roster but something like that just wouldn't happen these days.

If Jinder Mahal, Mojo Rawley or one of The Colóns (someone like that) interfered in Seth Rollins' match or Dean Ambrose's match, Rollins/Ambrose wouldn't give them the time of day but if they did, the aforementioned would probably be KO'd with one punch at the bottom of the ramp, leaving Rollins/Ambrose to go on to win the match.

I like stuff like what I've seen from 2002 so far. It's far more believable and refreshing. Even though it's in the past and we know what happens, it still has that sense of not knowing who is going to show up or who is going to win a match.

These days, everything is so "cookie cutter" and predictable. It's boring and repetitive.

Matches are had and the outcomes are so blatantly obvious. It's like old movies or comics from the 50's or whatever where the good guy always wins and the same bad guy never gets the upper hand, not even for a moment of jeopardy for the hero.

The hero is just 110% invincible and always comes out on top no matter what and he always does it with a smile on his face.

Anyway, enough complaining, here's a shot of Finlay and Big Johnny. I actually had no idea that Finlay was fat and bald in 2002 and that Big Johnny still looked like he was from the 80's.

• Edge and <s>Val Venis</s> The Big Valbowski are backstage and I realised that just like Shawn Stasiak on Raw, Val got a lot of TV time back in 2002.

The only difference being that Stasiak got more matches, whereas Val got more backstage time.

The main event was a cage match and that's two main events that week in 2002 that were "specialty matches" as Raw had a ladder match.

Again, (and I hate to sound like a broken record here) you wouldn't really get that happening today.

The match was a good one and Edge got some colour. I did notice however that the quality of the footage kept changing during the match. The hard camera and everything else was your regular picture quality but a camera located at the far right of the ring (when looking via the hard camera) seemed to have a somewhat poor quality of footage.

• Finally, before the match and for some reason, during Edge's entrance when it was all dark and stuff, we got to "see" The Hart Family (and when I say "see", I mean "squint"), which included a 16 year old Harry Smith and a 21 year old Tyson Kidd....

• We then get told that Kevin Nash has a "Major Announcement". This is what would have kept fans watching the show and that tactic is something that rarely happens now.

• A video of the winners of Tough Enough 2 was shown and during her victory speech, Jackie Gayda said "You wish upon a star and you have a dream and no matter what, your dream comes true, you keep on pushing and pushing and pushing and it'll just work!".

After the video, Lawler said "Yeah, I wanna tell Jackie to keep on pushing and pushing and pushing, she'll go far in the WWE, Woo-Hoo!"

• The Undertaker and Tommy Dreamer have a match and Undertaker wins with a Dragon Sleeper.

I can't remember the last time I saw someone win a match with a Dragon Sleeper.

• So the moment has arrived for Nash's "Major Announcement" and it's that Shawn Michaels is the newest member of the nWo.

I remember that and I also remember the random beeping that happened during Michaels' entrance.

SmackDown:

• We start off SmackDown with a 20-Man Battle Royal that only consisted of 19 wrestlers and had no winner.

During the Battle Royal, Lance Storm and Triple H continued their rivalry which consisted of Storm getting the better of Triple H by throwing him outside the ring (through the ropes) and beating him up.

You may not know how much I like the fact that Lance Storm and Triple H had a rivalry and that Lance Storm was portrayed as being a legitimate threat to Triple H.

I didn't really watch much of SmackDown back in 2002 for some reason, so a lot of my watching of SmackDown 2002 and onwards is in a way, going to be kinda new to me, which I think is pretty cool in weird way.

• Rico hasn't been hanging out with Billy & Chuck much since becoming Tag Team Champion and as a result, Billy gets zits on his ass.

During Billy & Chuck's elimination match against Rikishi & Rico for the titles, Rico quickly taps out to a wrist lock so he can be quickly eliminated so it's a handicap match but Rico continues to sell by holding his wrist and Tazz constantly points out that Rico has a "limp wrist".

Tazz just wouldn't let it go. He must have mentioned Rico having a limp wrist about twenty times. At one point Tazz said "I guess it's better to have a limp wrist than a limp biscuit".

• This episode of SmackDown saw the debut of Jamie Noble.

I had no idea that there was a backstory here that The Hurricane and Nidia were in a relationship and that The Hurricane left Nidia because she had multiple boyfriends.

• A match for Velocity was actually made on SmackDown and it was made by Vince himself. He then proceed to check out Jackie Gayda's ass as she walked out the room.

• Kurt Angle vs Hardcore Holly and Kurt Angle became Holly's tron.

All the way through SmackDown the ring bell was just an obvious sound effect that was added in post-production but the worst point of it was when Angle took the bell and tried to hit Holly with it. Angle dropped it in the ring and a sound effect was added when it hit the canvas and then another sound effect was added when Holly hit Angle with the bell.

It reminded me of when you hit someone with the bell on "WWF No Mercy".

• We see Maven in the hospital with a broken leg and Torrie comes to visit him with a banana (as you do).

She then does this with said banana:

A nurse comes in and tells Maven to keep his leg elevated to which he replies "Oh, don't worry, I'm real elevated right now!".

I've always loved Tajiri.

• Man, Cole (and sometimes Tazz) was so bad back then. Edge had just forfeited his King of the Ring Qualifying match against Chris Jericho and Jericho appears.

The camera is solely on Jericho and you can clearly see him grab a mic and then enter the ring and all Cole could say was "Edge's scheduled opponent has just taken a microphone into the ring with him!".

I got big "SmackDown!: Just Bring It" vibes right there.

I got more of those vibes again when Jericho hit Edge with a chair and Tazz said "Jericho has crossed the line and his victim is Edge!".

Also, at the end of the show, Hogan offers his hand to Triple H and Cole said "Hulk Hogan acknowledged Triple H!" and later Kurt Angle's music hits and Cole says "Kurt Angle's out here!".

Maybe the commentary in "Just Bring It" wasn't that bad after all. It was just actually really accurate.

Seems WWE can't catch any real break with their handling of the upcoming Evolution event.

Took them weeks to finally realize Alexa Bliss is not a draw as a big star since ticket sales for the event were very sluggish after her match with Trish was announced. Then the belt maker for the Women's Tag title said he hasn't heard anything definite for plans for the belts status at the event.

Now the rumored NXT UK Women's match for the event might be off because WWE waited way too long to start airing the tapings from the summer. Current champ recently mentioned she hasn't been told of any plans for her at the moment for the event.

Don't even think ticket sales spiked after they announced Nikki Bella as Ronda's opponent for the RAW Women's title match.

1 thing I sorta assumed in regards to Akexa Bliss is that she must still be somewhat injured which is why they made it a tag match

According to the Observer, the plan was to always make it a tag team match. WWE just assumed Bliss' star power with Trish's name power would be enough to boost early sales for the event. That ended up not being the case which is why all the focus is now going to be on the Nikki vs Ronda feud to drive sales.

Problem is WWE likely will have the same situation happen again since they've been really overestimating the Bellas star power. Not even Ronda has been drawing in fans WWE was expecting to have by now.
