Wonder how much that cost for the shout out...
I hope there was a transaction involved. Otherwise the President is posting about wrestling in the middle of a worldwide crisis.
I don’t think I’ll be telling anybody anything their didn’t already know but, the Network is not good.
I was thinking about the participants in the Cruiserweight and Mae Young Classics so used the search function to search for the shows. The 1st MY Classic is listed in there as Season 1, but not the 2nd season, although all of the matches are on there separately. Makes no sense.

There are times where I think “Maybe I’m on the wrong side of the battle” when I long for pro wrestling to be more like it used to be.
But then something comes along to remind me that Trump and McMahon are firmly together on the other side of this battle and I instantly think “No. I’m definitely right.”

Tbf, the Buckle Bomb is dangerous enough when performed correctly (see Rollins vs Sting, Rollins vs Balor) maybe they need to ban the move altogether? But, yeah, they definitely need to tell Nia not to do it.
Buckle Bomb is whiplash waiting to happen at least and a spinal injury at worst, though considering Nia's past she can easily fuck up even simpler moves. Remember the shoulder breaker to Charlotte, she just dumped her on her head after the move.

Yeah I saw that the other day and winced. Not good.
Question; is the search function on the forum faulty? I searched using a keyword and poster name but it’s giving me no results. When I search for posts by user it shows me results from 2013-2014.

Apparently Triple H's celebration segment on Smackdown originally was meant to be a lot shorter in length.
Would explain why it quickly unraveled and became an entertaining but very odd trainwreck to watch on tv.
From Fightful Select: Not that it's any surprise, but the Triple H 25th anniversary segment went way over the planned time for it on tonight's show. Fortunately, that part was pre-taped. It was originally set to go about 10 minutes, but ended up going closer to 19-20 as they filmed it.

Apparently Jerry Lawler's reason for why he called one of Akira Tozawa's moves a "Ramen Noodle Moonsault" is just as dumb as when he mentioned it on RAW a couple weeks ago.
Basically Byron Saxton and Tom Phillps are to blame for not going along with his inappropriate gag and letting his dumb comment be exposed out in the open.
On the April 13th edition of the show, Lawler was calling an Akira Tozawa-Austin Theory match with Tom Phillips and Byron Saxton when he referred to a Tozawa senton as a "Ramen noodle moonsault". The comment was later edited out of the Hulu edition of the show.
At the 53 minute mark, Lawler asked his co-host if he could address the elephant in the room about the comment and why being racist was "the furthest thing from his mind."
He said he was doing commentary in 2016 with Mauro Ranallo and given Ranallo's history with Japanese wrestling, he heard him call a move something that he figured was made up because he had never heard of it before. He said he later made up some names of what he thought would be funny moves to go back at Ranallo at when he called a move.
"I would say something like, "There’s the Ramen Noodle moonsault" and he would say, "Oh, King! You know there's no such thing!" and we would just go on. I was doing it just to play devil’s advocate with Mauro. If I were still doing commentary with Michael Cole or JR, we had the chemistry to where each one of those guys would have known that I was almost making a fool out of myself by claiming like I was acting like I knew what this unbelievable looking move was.
"Then either Cole or JR would have said ‘"Oh, King! You know better than that!" With Byron and Tom, we don’t have that chemistry yet. We have only been working together for a short time so when I said that, they didn’t even acknowledge it so it kind of went out and they just kept talking and I kept talking. I didn’t think anything about it either.”
Lawler and his co-host then intimated that the intent was that the joke was supposed to be on him for being behind the times.
"That’s where me, Bobby Heenan, Jesse Ventura...all of the heel commentators do that sort of stuff and the joke is on yourself that the people out there say, "Look at that idiot. He doesn’t even know what he’s talking about and he thinks he does.' That's where the joke was."
Lawler did not apologize for the comment and remains on the commentary team for Raw.

Oh yeah, Aries had a really nice one. Also, King Cureno...err, sorry, El Hijo del Fantasma has a really killer one. I was actually watching Samoa Joe v. Finn Balor on the influential NXT matches yesterday, and he did a really nice one. I don't recall Keith Lee doing it, but it seems like something he'd do.
It's very possible for it to look good, but it's been happening a LOT, and I think it looks bad more often than not.
I wasn’t aware Fantasma was King Cuerno. Maybe I am interested in him after all.
Yeah, looks a little different with his long hair. He did a stint in Impact after Lucha Underground. I'm looking forward to him.
Plz move these posts to the appropriate thread. Thx.

So it’s Lawler’s colleagues fault that they didn’t want to draw attention to his racist commentary by addressing it on air? Nice one.

Heenan and Ventura wouldn't last an hour on commentary today #sadfacts
Only they would because they’d be smart enough and talented enough to align to the standards on modern society and still remain hilarious. Lawler has largely been a one-trick pony on commentary which worked in the 90s but the company and society have moved on since then.
Tbf, back in the 80s there’s a strong chance that the actual move would have been called the Ramen Noodle Moonsault”.

While I don't agree, there is a point to what Lawler's saying.
One of the go-to kneejerk responses when a joke like that gets made in wrestling is for people to say, "lol wot would u have done when jesse ventura and bobby heenan were around".
But the point is that Heenan was always a clown, and always presented as being wrong. You knew that if Heenan said something, you were supposed to disagree with it, and someone like Vince or Gorilla Monsoon would call him out on it.
But even if Lawler's trying to do that now, I couldn't tell you on a day-to-day basis if Jerry Lawler is supposed to be a clownish heel commentator or a beloved and respected babyface Hall of Famer. Without that consistency, that kind of joke can't land, even if you can handwave away the racism.

Lawler used to say some really awful things on commentary back in the day, but as someone pointed out, EVERYTHING he said was awful, and it was in alignment with his heel character. Today's Lawler just comes off as senile.

Jerry Lawler is a one trick pony but Bobby Heenan and Jesse Ventura were too talented to make the same mistakes now? They all had the same proclivity for saying outrageous things...
Jesse Ventura and Bobby Heenan wouldn't last five minutes today and you know it.

They have a bunch of young talent in the PC but majority of them either are too raw or don't come from established indie backgrounds.
Outside of some exceptions, NXT stopped being an effective developmental system years ago and instead became just a place for Triple H and co. to hoard as much notable indie talent as possible.
Even when they do have notable young talent, they don't really do much with them because of the log jam of talent in the company. Austin Theory is only 22 years old but doesn't feel special and is just another guy because of how NXT and RAW has handled him. Deonna Purrazzo is another young talent that could have been a big star for NXT's women division but they did jack shit with her.

This is what happens when 1. you have too much talent and/or access to talent because you can pay them so well...and 2. it's even worse if you're so arrogant and/or stupid that you believe you can systematize everything, especially when you believe that you can and should teach and script all your talent to wrestle, promo, etc., the same way and style.
The result is you get a bunch of underdeveloped, bland, no talent, hacks who don't know how to actually do anything except what they're told to do. The especially don't know how to get themselves, their opponents, or their feuds or matches over with anyone with a functioning brain between the ages of 10 to 60 that isn't watching out of sheer habit or boredom.

Seems WWE might be even more worried about a potential coronavirus outbreak happening at their PC due to all the tapings held there the past few weeks.
Enacted new rules that are even more stricter than before in regards to what talent are allowed to do in the building.
Regular training at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, FL has reportedly stopped during the coronavirus pandemic, according to Wrestling Observer Radio.
It was noted that WWE talents who are at the Performance Center for TV tapings are not allowed to use the weight room and gym facilities while they are there. The Performance Center is reportedly shut down for any kind of training right now, according to the report, indicating that other talents who are not there for TV can't just show up to work out as they normally would before the pandemic.
WWE talents that are brought to the Performance Center for tapings are reportedly spending most of their time outside of the building, and aren't hanging out inside. It was noted that talents are only allowed in for their match or segment, or other work, and then must go back out. They are also getting dressed in their gear outside of the normal area.

Tyson Smith is of course Kenny Omega.

I find it hard to believe Kenny Omega fought between 2005 and 2008 in at least 7 documented mma matches, especially since I can't find any pictures or footage so far.

There is no way this can make Vince McMahon happy. NBC will be airing Titan Games, the reality show Dwayne Johnson is producing, on Monday nights from 8-9 p.m. starting 5/25. The first episode will air from 8-10 p.m. as the season premiere. The first season averaged six million viewers. The show was not scheduled to run this early but with the absence of sports on television, NBC moved up its air date. This is where you were spot on about Severn in the first place, he fought on suspiciously tiny shows that were filled with untrained fighters and taking a dive for $50 against a legend beats having your arm ripped off.

If this was the case wouldn't UFC be a lot better? Sure it may have happened in the company before but I have no proof. Could've been a ton of reasons for a fight to get thrown. They don't all have to do with the promotion itself though. I don't think that UFC or Bellator are inherently worked beyond match making being strategic.

Didn't Ken Shamrock vs. Rich Franklin in UFC's first Ultimate Finale have a phantom punch in it? Also, it had Ken Shamrock take off his cup in the middle of the cage after the fight.
Seanny One Ball
05-01-2020, 09:34 PM
That's the beauty of MMA, it's hard to tell if someone is acting weird because they have given up or because they are outclassed.
Ken Shamrock worked a good number of fights early on and I have no problem believing that some of his later fights were extremely questionable given the level of opponent he was facing. I think when it comes to the UFC he was likely, at worst, guilty of fighting when he had to know he was going to lose pretty badly so his fights against Ortiz and Franklin were only feasible on paper.
I think Dana White used his name value to boost a couple of people who would have done well without it, which he is continually guilty of to this day.
Dana rigs things in people's favour but I'm not sure he has outright paid a guy to take a dive. I think referees, judges and fighters have been influenced in all of the most traditional ways though.
Maybe a ref stops getting used as much or has various rules emphasised to them before the match or an unsuited fighter takes a fight on short notice for a guaranteed 3 fight contract after.
Dana White is like a horrible mixture of Vince and every boxing promoter ever but like they were, he's smarter than the carnies so the fixing is all much smarter.
Small-time logic would be "It's easier to pay a guy to lose than pay a guy to win" but that's why the worst fixes are so obvious.
If you want to make it hard to spot you buy the entire business that the refs, judges and athletes compete in.

The guidelines mandate that this can start as early as next Monday night, with Monday Night RAW, from the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.
AEW is also taping all of their events at Daily's Place in Jacksonville, Florida.

Yeah especially considering 25% capacity of Daily's Place is around 1375. Performance Center would be around 100 but everyone would be a lot more cramped in since less space to spread them out compared to a regular arena.
Vince and WWE managed to open up a huge can of worms because of their stubbornness over this on-going coronavirus pandemic. Them finding a sleazeball of a politician to do it isn't a big surprise on it own.
UFC could have saved a ton of money and ridicule from their Fight Island stuff had they just waited a couple of weeks for WWE to do the dirty work for them.

Seems Charlotte's appearance on last week's episode of NXT was a huge bust in terms of viewership according to the Observer.
Despite them hyping up her match with Mia Yim for the past few weeks, the match itself ended up being the lowest rated in terms of the key demo and 2nd lowest in terms of overall viewership on the show. Also one of the lowest ever rated in the key demo since NXT moved to USA Network.
Outside of her first return appearance to NXT, WWE's plans of using Charlotte's star power to be a big boost for NXT's key demo ratings has backfired badly. Pretty much been diminishing returns since then.

uhhhh, gross. Either they will quietly release Roman given his situation, or they are just trying to ensure the Savior of Monday Nights remains pure?
I dunno, I don't really watch. I read results, but that's the extent. Reigns seems like the last person they should try to have compete right now.

They also erased Reigns from their Make A Wish videos this year despite him taking over Cena's role as the main star for it and being a perfect role model for the company following his own life threatening battle.
I'm unsure if the WWE has done something similar in the past when a performer has gone on an extended leave of absence. I doubt if there is any heat on Reigns since he's immunocompromised.

Only real negative I have about Revenge is finishers not being as devastating in terms of damage and being easier to kick out compared to AKI's later WWF games.
More of an issue for short matches or trying to speed run through Championship mode.

So far her reign feels like almost every other one she's had so far in WWE.
No real direction and came at the cost of knee capping all the momentum and star rise Rhea gained from her Baszler feud.
Could see NXT beat AEW this week via NXT having a big show and Tony Khan booking the laziest sounding card in ages...

Per Tony Khan, all wrestlers and staff present at tonight's tapings including himself were tested for coronavirus prior to entering the building and everybody tested negative.
So while it's nice that there won't be any potentially sick workers performing...that opens up the next criticism which is that they were able to rapidly test that many people in a short period of time despite a national test shortage.

If it does happen, just more proof NXT can only really beat AEW by dipping even more into the TakeOver well and not because their weekly shows have been built up strong on their own.
Like the Dream vs. Balor feud pretty much got quickly canned in order to rush back to the Dream vs. Cole feud because NXT needs more than 1 Takeover-quality match on a show to sway the needle these days.

Yeah, I can't really get behind that booking decision.
While Charlotte is a top tier performer, she's always booked and treated like such a spoiled brat (which makes her unlikeable to an extent). If the dirtsheets were to be believed, she won this year's rumble match because she was promised a win at last year's event. That comes across as cringeworthy considering she did end up in the main event of last year's WrestleMania. All of these decisions do take some luster off of her accomplishments.

Apparently Maryland's State Athletic Commission recently fined AEW $10k for the Unsanctioned match between Moxley and Omega at Full Gear.
The former WCW announcer guy who snitched on them has been gloating about it despite everyone else mocking him about it. Somehow he thinks AEW getting fined is a bigger black eye to wrestling than all the shit WWE has pulled recently.

A&E Network has greenlit the new series "The Quest for Lost WWE Treasures"(wt) in partnership withWWE Studioswhich takes viewers on the ultimate hunt to find some of WWE's most iconic, lost memorabilia. In each episode, WWE's Stephanie McMahon and Paul "Triple H" Levesque, will lead a team of collectors, WWE Superstars and Legends as they investigate, negotiate, bid and travel across the country to hunt down and reclaim some of the most elusive WWE collectibles.
Throughout history, WWE's action-packed storylines have spawned iconic, one-of-a-kind memorabilia, most of which is lost in attics, hidden in boxes or even claimed by competitors. Guided by McMahon and Levesque, the series will unearth these rare items in the hopes of preserving and sharing the legacy behind the memorable moments in WWE history. Episodes will feature exclusive WWE footage as well as unprecedented access to the WWE Archives, which holds more than 10,000 rarities including Andre the Giant's custom boots, Vince McMahon's cement-filled Corvette, The Undertaker's caskets and more.Over the course of ten one-hour episodes, WWE Superstars and Legends will give viewers a unique look into WWE history as they seek out the missing treasures that have left a lasting mark on pop culture.
The network is dead. This would be another obvious network show instead on A&E (who are also doing new episodes of Biography on wrestlers like Randy Savvage and Piper)

Besides Florida, seems Connecticut also recently gave WWE "essential business" status which is why they were able to tape wrestling stuff at their headquarters for Money in the Bank.
The Rush’ also has an article up about WWE’s filming of Money In The Bank at their corporate headquarters. WWE was allowed to film the event because media companies provide “essential” services that are exempt from the stay-at-home order that was put in place on March 23rd by Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont.

Random thing I learned today
From June 5. 2000 to June 12 2000 your WWF and WCW Hardcore champions were Gerald Brisco and Eric Bischoff
WWE Untold: I am The Game is quite a ride. Although I do question the historical accuracy at times.
Eager to watch some new episodes of the "Dark Side of The Ring" series.
I watched that Untold episode. Other than them trying to sell HHH as a “marquee name” (in his own use of the words) I don’t recall too much in the way of historical inaccuracy.

With Austin & Taker out injured and The Rock becoming the #1 babyface, Triple H was the #1 heel and a marquee name for WWF at the turn of the millennium because of that series with Foley. Triple H said they were trying to establish him as a marquee name from the summer of 99 and you can’t argue that he hasn’t been a marquee name for 20 years now. Is he on the Mt. Rushmore with Hogan, Austin, Rock, and Flair? No, but he is easily one of the 20 biggest stars in the history of wrestling and one of the top 5 stars since the turn of the millennium.

I will say that Triple H’s run is much more tolerable in hindsight but it’s only because the product has somehow gotten progressively worse since his reign of terror. Sometimes I wonder if his entire plan now that he has some control is to make people think he was better than he actually was by making wrestling unbelievably bad.

2002-2003 was the drizzling shits, but his run from 99 to his injury in 01 was great. I blame bad storylines (02) and shitty opponents (03) more than anything. Even then, you got the HBK return and start of feud in there that’s pretty fucking good. 2004-Jan 2007/quad tear #2 was pretty good with the matches with Benoit/HBK/Batista/Cena/Flair. The DX reunion skits were average, but the matches were good. He run on SmackDown! was good wrestling Edge, Jeff Hardy, etc. He couldn’t pull shit out of Khali and Kozlov but who could? WM25 got crippled by shitty booking. Then, after that he’s part time and pretty much doing 1 offs at Mania. Sheamus match was good. Taker matches were classic. Brock was good. Bryan was a classic. Sting was a fun story, and the finish made sense at the time. The reigns match was more about Reigns being a black hole of fan support at the time. Rollins was a great match. The Rousey mix tag was tremendous. Batista match was better than it had any right to be and that’s because HHH carried it. The international shows in recent years are what they are, but I wouldn’t classify them as bad.

JamesSteele sounds like he just read off a Donald Trump speech.
2002 and 2003 were the shits because HHH beat everyone to a pulp, got rid of the IC title because he only wanted the World Title to matter and forced everyone to listen to 25 minute promo segments. Also the ratings tanked because he was so bad.
He's realistically a Hardcore Holly level heel
2000 HHH was fucking amazing, he had great matches at Rumble/NWO, Backlash and Judgment Day (vs Rock), Fully Loaded (vs Jericho), SummerSlam (vs Rock & Angle), Unforgiven (vs Angle), and No Mercy (vs Benoit). It went sideways with Austin’s return.

If I recall correctly HHH himself described a “Marquee Name” as someone who’s name alone (I.e. without an opponent) brings people in. He was trying to get there, I don’t think he did.
His reputation is that he’s the guy that works with the guy that gets people through the door. He’s been great in that role.

My entire memory of Triple H is teenage me wishing he wasn't always in the main event.
Triple H being force fed to me is one of the reasons I was so happy when Kurt Angle came on the scene. You now had a way better heel who was also a way better athlete.
Triple H was definitely a good wrestler and his matches were never too bad but everyone got bored of him as a main eventer because his place was as a jockish anti-hero in DX.
I never wanted to see anyone chase Triple H for the belt because I didn't think beating him was a big deal. They oversold him, tried to make him way too evil to be taken seriously.
Didn't he break JR's arm or was that Austin in a weird heel moment?

I will say that he was given some fucking great angles though. Stuff that would have been better for someone else but that I have very fond memories of.
That best of 5 matches to get a title shot angle is possibly my favourite non PPV show ever.
I couldn't have enjoyed that if the matches and the atmosphere were off in any major way.
I still think that angle would have been dynamite for Foley, Austin or The Rock though. A one night, 5 match run against 5 main eventer just to earn a shot at the belt. A heel running the gauntlet seems odd.

Watching it when I was younger I always wanted to see him lose and that is because he was playing the heel most the time. I remember his match against Jericho on Raw which I loved mainly because of being a massive Y2J mark and the hate I had for HHH when the decision was reversed.
To me he was the perfect foil at that time against Rock and Austin.

My fav Triple H was from when he was just starting all the "The Game" and "My Time" stuff, and had that feud with Cactus Jack.
For the most part the issue with HHH isn’t in the ring, with a few exceptions (vs Steiner top of the list). It’s the amount of people cut off at the legs in order to keep him propped up.
Booker T, RVD, Kane all in a short spell. Now, these aren’t guys that were gonna lead to another boom period by any means, but they ended up being made less by these losses.
HHH was featured too much at the detriment of the product.
You can sell it as being a great heel, but I think there was a lot of “Go Away” heat mixed in there.

Similar to Triple H, Stephanie McMahon decided to pick a bad time to offload a ton of WWE stocks.
Triple H, Vince McMahon, and herself were among those named in a recent lawsuit against the company in regards to allegations of top WWE executives committing acts in the best interest of themselves financially and not the company.
Stephanie McMahon Levesque followed her husband in selling 23,255 shares of stock on Wednesday for $1,029,963.90
Only reason Kevin Dunn didn't have real suspicion on himself with his recent stock sale was due to his sales are usually done on routine times and for similar large amounts each time. Triple H and Stephanie usually sell their stocks less often and usually not for the amounts they made this time.
