Just thinking... I've never been one to hate on Roman's in ring work, he's one of the top main event guys they've had as far as quality of match goes. Imagine that dickhead heel HBK circa 97 vs Roman Reigns... that would be incredible.

Impact Wrestling is not TNA. Don Callis and Scott D'Amore have done a great job turning the company around. Slammiversary proved that and TNA is dead, this is iMPACT!

Nope. It's fueled by months of projecting and making up whatever narrative you want. Which is normal, it's just annoying that you call others out on it yet can't keep your own house in line.

I'm really coming around to your line of thinking, Gerty. I used to think it was a philosophical problem with what WWE is, but I'm thinking more and more that it is the direction of the entire industry. Really want something to prove me wrong. I've felt some nostalgia watching New Japan lately. It's not perfect and the language/cultural barrier is always gonna be hindrance for me but when I watch the build to certain matches and then see it play out in the ring, it's the closest I get to feeling like I'm watching old NWA. I was even invested in a Young Bucks match and I generally find them terrible.
Mr. Nerfect
07-24-2018, 06:03 PM
I get what you're saying. I absolutely love the presentation there. I watched The Young Bucks vs. SANADA & EVIL and actually quite liked it. I didn't think it was fantastic, but there was the semblance of tag team psychology implemented. I appreciate that they are trying.
I like that you're realistic about the product and admit that it's not perfect. This is a failing in me, but I let people's hysteria around things color my expectations too often. I can enjoy things if they are good if other people find them good, but when people act like something is the best thing ever and it's not...I guess I just find the fandom a bit toxic sometimes. I need to clear my expectations before I go into it.

I don't actually understand the point trying to be made here. Are they trying to say that Dave's take is inappropriate? I think there are lots of people who feel that the WWE "women's movement" is bullshit. Dave was quite outspoken about them doing business with Saudi Arabia in the first place. I don't think Dave is against all-woman cards so much as he sees through their corporate tokenism that is actually quite disrespectful.
Equality = Bullshit

07-24-2018, 07:01 PM
Lol, the women in WWE aren't equal. Just this year the WWE ran a propaganda show for Saudi Arabia -- one of the most regressive regimes in the world. It's referenced in that tweet. They still treat their African-Americans like it is progressive to show them as smiling talking heads. "Look, black people can be well-presented too!" They tried pushing Jinder Mahal because they have the racist idea that Indians are stupid marks that will eat up any shit they throw at them. Your current Women's World Champions are Alexa Bliss and Carmella. Do you think they are being pushed because of their talent?
The WWE is not a progressive company.
Dave Meltzer is a great historian and fabulous obituary writer but I question his ability to 'break news' in 2018 tbh.
There's way more 'maybe-maybe not-plans change' than someone of his stature should have at this point. It sometimes makes me wonder if there is something to the rumors Meltz's only sources are a few wrestlers like Jericho, who really don't know that much since they don't sit in creative/marketing meetings.
Fabulous at obits though.
Steph said several years ago 'Philanthropy is the new PR' and I think 'The Women's Revolution' is a marketing gimmick, just like how every woman is now a 'goddess, warrior, princess' etc
But -- there are still plusses to come from that. Those are great terms for little kids to hear about women. I think the all women's show is a great opportunity for WWE to make some money and get good PR. I also think they'll return to Saudia Arabia before WM too.
Mr. Nerfect

I remember him being basically 100% correct about the WrestleMania 33 card. I think some stuff sneaks up on him because it sneaks up on everyone. He can only report the scuttlebutt on what he actually hears and then what actually transpires.
It's crazy to me how many people (not you, mind you -- I'm talking generally and about people like Prichard), will see Meltzer get way ahead of something and then not give him any credit for it like it was something he could have known without knowing. There is obviously stuff he doesn't know, but I think the stuff he does is obviously stuff he does.
And in regards to that tweet, he's saying that he thinks it's an ugly idea. He's not actually commenting on whether or not he thinks they will actually do. I think a lot of people have expected this for a long time. I don't think it's particularly shocking.

I agree with you that it is a marketing gimmick. They clearly don't give a shit about their women -- hence the Saudi stuff.
It is a great time for little girls to hear about women and pioneers; I just don't think WWE is a great example of that, where tits and ass still rule the day, and girls still fight over high school drama. They're also copying the male wrestlers, because Steph is obsessed with the idea of "lady balls," not releasing that male bravado is one of the things a lot of women's rights activists would love to get away from.
I think an all-woman show highlighting female talent could be great. I've suggested that they do one for ages. I've wanted them to get their own TV show too. I'd love for it to be booked correctly and proper stories to come out of the division too. I'd also like $5,000,000 and a threesome with Emma and Becky Lynch. I think it's the tone people are put off by. It's so fake. If it inspires more female doctors and scientists though, cool.

Re: Honestly why is Ryan Satin breaking all the news?
Aside from plenty of first-run info in every issue, it's not about first, it's about the most detail, and our article is a lot more detailed and we'll have more on the radio show tonight.
But in theory, the idea is you get more detail and a deeper understanding of the industry.
And yes this is true. We shouldn't hate on Dave when Brad or PWI or whomever else has a "scoop"... they are frantic to get it on their site or twitter so they can be the first. Dave will go in depth, double check the sources, get a thorough analysis... There is a reason people pay 10 bucks a month to have access to his site. It's not just for click bait news. You can get that here on TPWW or any other basic wrestling site. Nobody can match Dave's journalism and knowledge on this topic.

Probably is a mix of him having fewer sources than in the past within the WWE and Vince's bad habit of constantly changing things on the fly.
That and everything revolves around the Newsletter for him so even if he does break some news, the in-depth stuff gets held off till that week's Newsletter arrives.

Yeah there are errors at times, I forgive it because I know he's up at 4am trying to get it in on time so the marks don't flip.
Thing with Brad is, I was into his scoops for a bit, I thought it was cool. But everyday he tries to qualify himself and slam Dave, it's pathetic. PWI and PWTorch are probably the closest to the Observer in terms of status and subscribers. Those three sites are pretty much the equivalent of a holy trinity for dirtsheets.
Even though PWTorch's Wade Keller doesn't get referenced that much online, he's someone seen as very reliable in scale like PWI's Mike Johnson and Observer's Meltzer.

I used to listen to Keller when I was a kid on a subscriber hotline, I think it was Keller, could've been Dave or Alvarez I'm not sure I was really young like 8/9 years old. Wade Keller really comes from a hard marks perspective for me, I don't enjoy his analysis or podcasts at all, his call in episodes are cringe worthy. PWI's website looks like it wants to but fuck my computer so I don't go anywhere near it. Although I know Triple H throws him a bone sometimes, I can get his stuff translated to the TPWW main page. Which truthfully, has always been my first stop on checking the news. Then I go to F4W to see if what I just read is legit, and listen to the podcasts and read The Observer weekly.

That's what kills me about thr "plans change" criticism. The WWE changes their minds more than my girlfriend deciding where she wants to go for dinner on a Saturday night.
While this is true, it seems more like he uses it as a crutch at this point. It's almost like Bruce Pritchard's "I don't recall" on an issue he's specifically asked about when he supposedly was standing right there.
Yeah, there are instances like that infamous RAW that was re-written 3 entire times that day just for Vince to do yet another one himself right before they went on... but it doesn't happen to that capacity all the goddamn time, and that's mostly a WWE (Vince) trait. But there is a world of difference between "so-and-so got hurt/fired/arrested so some angle needed to be scrapped/altered out of neccessity" and "this guy didn't win a main event like I thought he would because it made sense to me on paper". It has gotten to where Meltz will use it for anything as a generic, catch-all disclaimer, which puts both of those instances on equal footing - and they're not.
Mr. Nerfect
07-25-2018, 12:35 AM
There are plenty of people who might "know" someone who can get them an occasional scoop, but the thing about those people is that they don't know how to cultivate sources and when their contact is weeded out/moves on/loses details, they don't really have anything else.
What Meltzer has is a name and a reputation. He knows people from numerous different eras, and is also a historian at this point. In the world of social media and online content, he's as much part of the industry as so many of the guys working. He's not dependent on one person in WWE creative leaking him details that happen to be correct. He's got eyes and ears well and truly entrenched by this point.
Jack Campbell Peterson IV might get a great scoop from the writing buddy he went to college with, but when that writer gets fired because he scripts Alexa Bliss to say "boot-tooty" too many times in a segment and Vince gets the shits, he's useless.
Mr. Nerfect
07-25-2018, 12:40 AM
I honestly don't really listen to much Meltzer, but he doesn't back off nearly as much as people say. A lot of the time things are clearly his opinion or just backstage mumblings, because that's all those details exist as. There's a difference between saying "This is definitely the plan" and "I imagine this is where they are going." Meltz will flat-out come out and say if he's just spit-balling and speculating based on other things he does know.
He was completely right about this women's PPV thing, wasn't he? And about Roman getting this title shot? He had obviously heard those where the plans and they came true. He obviously talks to people who hear what the plans are. That they change isn't so much a crutch as it is something that happens. If things change they can't stay the same, can they?

I wasn't planning on attending WM35 and was leaning towards the RR19...might have to hashtag re-think this though via The Rock
I joked earlier this year about how WWE's goal each year seems to be to find a way to get the WM crowd to respond even more hostile towards Roman Reigns than ever before
I think Roman beating The Rock would be pretty up there on the list.
I could see them picking up that HHH vs Rock feud they've teased a few times over the last couple of years.

That would be such a waste. I hope Triple H is not on the WM card at 35. Unless he's against AJ, just because that would elevate AJ.

Ditto.
I think Roman finally beats Lesnar, the plan set in motion when Lesnar ended the streak...only to have KO come out and cash in his newly won MITB briefcase and leave Brooklyn as Universal Champ.
Honestly, there isn't anyone other than KO whose qualified to be the top heel on RAW these days. KO is more over than Baron. Drew could be more qualified in time, after he ditches the Dolph.

Seems WWE's plans for Hogan's backstage apology backfired even more than previously thought.
Titus O'Neil released another statement about the Hogan meeting and unlike previous times, he didn't hold back on his real feelings towards Hogan's apology.
“I have zero respect for the way he came about his apology. It was not an apology and I still feel very strongly about that" ...
“He may regret it. But to come out and say, ‘you know, I didn’t know I was being recorded’ and ‘you know, be careful what you say’ and ‘I don’t remember what I said – I don’t remember saying that stuff’. When you start off an apology like that? Dude, you lost me already. I wanted to give him a chance. I didn’t know what that meeting was about going in, but I wanted to give him a chance. And he legitimately screwed that all up. Because, again, it’s not about making a mistake. It’s not a mistake.”
“The inconsistencies of the apology along with the lack of remorse and contrition with the apologies, are the reason why I felt, and many others felt in that meeting that this was a complete waste of our time.”
Came from a recent episode of the Busted Open Radio show with Mark Henry as one of the hosts.

Reading "The death of WCW" and for some reason I had an idea for a wrestling angle I thought would be cool to see.
Has any major promotion ever done a blackmail/extortion angle where it turns out a Champ is only winning because he/she has some sort of long-standing leverage over a ref?
That could work pretty well with some vignettes of the wrestler and the ref having secret meetings. Probably could get 6 months out of that. You'd probably have to teach the guy to count 3 in a not-immediately-noticeably faster time. Like 2.5 seconds.
Then you could show a few vignettes of the secret meetings/suspicious activity over time and have a repeatedly screwed contender put together a tape of the fast counts to show that the champ was "a full 3 count away from being the champ".
I'm rambling and I have probably just recreated some well known old angle but it sounds good in my head.

The Sasha vs Bayley Saga
1/28/18 - Women’s Royal Rumble match
Sasha eliminates Bayley after entering #1 (Thanks Rated_R_Poster for reminding me)
1/29/18 – Sasha has great match with Asuka which she loses.
2/5/18 – Sasha believes she can beat Asuka, but Bayley boasts she has beaten Sasha before, which mean she can beat Asuka too.
Bayley has a match with Asuka and loses, but Asuka shakes her hand afterwards which she did not do to Sasha.
2/12/18 – Bayley and Sasha snipe back and forth and Kurt Angle makes a match between the two.
Bayley got the win. After the match they stare at each other before Nia Jax interrupts and destroys both of them.
2/19/18 – Bayley and Sasha team with Mickie in a 6 woman tag with all Chamber participants.
2/25/18 – Elimination chamber match and Sasha and Bayley’s Lion King moment.
2/26/18 – Another 6 woman tag with them on a team. Initially seem to be getting along once the match started Sasha clearly wanted the win for herself, but eventually conceded and went to tag Bayley who hopped off the apron.
Sasha tags Asuka in and Bayley does aid Asuka. Ends with Sasha staring daggers at Bayley.
3/5/18 – Bayley has a match against Mandy Rose w/ Absolution at ringside.
Bayley overcomes the odds and wins but gets beat down after the match.
Sasha runs them off and helps Bayley to her feet, but Bayley refuses to give her a hug!
3/12/18 – Sasha versus Sonya Deville w/ Bayley and Absolution at ringside. Bayley does help Sasha during the match, but leaves after Sasha picks up the win allowing her to be beatdown by Absolution.
3/19/18 – Sasha decides to forgive Bayley, because she is the bigger person. gasp
The Hug gangster clearly does not believe the Boss’ words and responds.
Bayley states that she didn’t mind what Sasha did during the Chamber match, but rather how much she seemed to enjoy.
They are interrupted by Absolution and a tag match starts.
Sasha accidentally distracts the ref from counting what would have been the winning pin by Bayley.
Bayley is pushed in Sasha, who is on the apron, knocking her off leading to Bayley getting pinned and losing the match.
3/26/18 – Sasha and Bayley become the first 2 women to declare themselves in the Wrestlemania Andre the Tiny Moolah Fabulous trophy battle royale.
Bayley and Sasha argue back and forth, Bayley claiming that Sasha always took advantage of her and Sasha made no apologies for her me first mentality.
Bayley finally hits a nerve when she says “Even though Banks was a 4 time champion, she never held it for that long.”
Which led to Sasha throwing Bayley into lockers and the two fighting before being pulled apart by refs.
4/2/18 – Bayley vs Sonya Deville w/ Absolution at ringside. Bayley wins, but gets beatdown after the match.
Sasha comes down for the save and then aggressively demands that Bayley allow her to raise her hand. Bayley refuses and the two brawl again.
Absolution takes advantage of them fighting one another and takes both women out.
4/8/18 – WM Battle Royale, Bayley eliminates Sasha to win! Or not. Have Naomi win and then Banks and Bayley both wallow in defeat outside while Naomi hugs bronze ovaries.
4/9/18 – Sasha vs Mandy Rose w/ Absolution at ringside (Paige announces her retirement on this episode)
Bayley makes her entrance right before the match starts.
Mandy Rose goads Bayley into taking a swing and she accidentally hits Sasha instead who goes on to lose.
4/16/18 – First day of Superstar shakeup.
Bayley vs Sasha #2 gets interrupted by the debuting on Raw Riott Squad, and are beatdown.
4/23/18 – 5 on 5 women’s tag w/ Bayley and Sasha on the same team. Rousey eventually comes out and causes a DQ loss for the two. No real significant interaction between them.
4/30/18 – Sasha can’t get a hold of Bayley and has to go into her match tonight without her.
Sasha vs Ruby Riott w/ the Riott Squad at ringside (I’m sensing a pattern here)
Sasha ends up losing thanks to the numbers game, while Bayley was shown backstage watching the match, but not going out to help.
5/7/18 – MITB Qualifying match Sasha vs Ruby Riott vs Ember Moon w/ Riott Squad and Bayley at ringside
Bayley attempts to help and fight off the other members of the Riott Squad, but Ember Moon ends up taking the victory
5/14/18 – MITB qualifying match Bayley vs Alexa Bliss vs Mickie James
Alexa wins
No interaction between the two
5/21/18 – The breathtaking Emmy worth segment that was Bobby Lashley’s sisters occurred.
Neither Sasha or Bayley was on this episode.
5/28/18 – MITB qualifying gauntlet match
Bayley starts at number 1 and between both Liv Morgan at 2 and Sarah Logan at 3, before being down by both allowing Ruby Riott at 4 to pick up the easy win.
Sasha comes in last and is able to beat a very game Ruby Riott who had already eliminated Bayley, Dana Brooke, and Mickie James, qualifying for the last spot in the MITB match.
6/4/18 – The Riott Squad vs Sasha Banks, Alexa Bliss, and Ember Moon.
Alexa fakes an injury causing Bayley to run down and take her place on Sasha’s team.
Bayley gets the win but Corbin got Angle to overrule it since she wasn’t legally in the match. Ruining what was a near moment of reconciliation between the two.
6/11/18 – Bayley gets an R painted on her chest in lipstick by the Riott Squad after getting beatdown.
Sasha competed in a fatal four way with the other MITB Raw contenders.
No interaction between the two.
6/17/18 – MITB match Sasha loses
Bayley not on the show, so no interaction.
My life feels very tedious right now
6/18/18 – Sasha & Bayley vs Liv Logan & Sarah Morgan
Liv pins Sasha with a handful of tights, Sasha gets upset and pushes Bayley to the ground.
Bayley follows Sasha backstage and attempts to confront her, but Sasha ignored her pleas leading to another brawl between the two.
Bayley tries to talk to Sasha once again, but Sasha again wouldn’t listen and drives off. Bayley throwing a water bottle after the car in a futile gesture
It really is starting to sounds like a romantic comedy at this point.
6/25/18 – Angle says that the two are really important to Raw so he is giving them one more chance in a 3 on 3 tag match.
From the start they work very reluctantly together, and after Sasha is pinned Bayley goes wild and beats the crap out of Sasha.
Which leads to Angle ordering the two into mandatory counseling or lose their job.
7/2/18 – Both Sasha and Bayley were unaware that their session was going to be together.
Honesty theatre… I just don’t know what to say
This was horrible
7/9/18 – Second week of counseling
Bayley continues on about how Sasha has stabbed her in the back and we as viewers continue to tune out
Cole claims that the report will not be favorable for one them
7/16/18 – Kurt threatens to trade one of them to Smackdown if they can’t coexist in a tag match… Again
Sasha & Bayley vs Alicia & Dana
Sasha get them DQ’ed
Sasha says that only she gets to beat Bayley up and that she loves how she always cares, but that it is hard for her to be as open about her emotions as Bayley, leading to an emotional declaration of love.

Excerpt from "The Death of WCW" :
one Thunder taping in 2000 featured a fan holding up a sign that read “I’M AT A WCW EVENT” while wearing a bag over his head. This wasn’t the only sign-█related comedy. A man named Peter Goldschmidt sued another man, Robert Catell, for appearing on WCW telecasts holding up various derogatory signs, including “PETER GOLDSCHMIDT LOSER 4 LIFE.” Apparently, the two used to be friends on Long Island. Then, one day, Catell asked Goldschmidt to help him move. Goldschmidt supposedly said he was unable to because it was a workday, and the friendship came to a bitter end, leading “Catell to travel around the nation and hold up disparaging signs at wrestling events. The number of lives that WCW ultimately affected is staggering.”

Still hear reports about it on occcasion but think now they just start moving people away from the hard cam shots if they have signs WWE doesn't like.
Happened a few weeks ago with someone with a giant "MAGA" sign who showed it once and then was either moved to a different seat or kicked out.

What is the story behind The Miz's "Be Miz" thing? Is it a parody of something? He's been using it forever, and I've never really gotten what it is about.
I remember he and Morrison used to always yell, "BE JEALOUS!" at the end of their promos. Then they had the feud where Morrison called Miz the Jannetty to his Michaels only for Miz to win the feud and of course he enjoyed/is enjoying way more success than his former team partner, which, one could argue, could lead to Miz seeing himself as the Michaels to Morrison's Jannetty, thus leading other superstars to wish they were him and perhaps "BE JEALOUS!" was changed to "BE MIZ" to try to convey that message?
Just my guess.

I still feel The Miz is overrated and I still don't buy him in the ring, but there's part of me that thinks he is everything they look for in a modern Superstar. I think there's a case for The Miz beating Bryan at SummerSlam (especially if Bryan is leaving), winning the Survivor Series match for SmackDown, winning the Royal Rumble and facing AJ Styles at WrestleMania.
I feel dirty saying that. But the current audience thinks he is really good. He no doubt works hard. He can do the publicity grind. He was recently on the celebrity baseball thing and I heard he stood out, and his reality show is doing well. There's enough to emphasize about his in-ring career (IC Title reigns, former WWE Champion, Money in the Bank Winner, WrestleMania 1 Million Buy Club) to position him as he was in 2011, only this time with more experience and cache.
Ugh, I can't believe I'm typing that. I think the dude's place is just naturally so much lower. But I think there's something to him being given a banner year and being presented as the epitome of modern WWE wrestling. If people boo him, fine; if people cheer him, then you can run with that too.

Seems Jason Jordan is dealing with a Daniel Bryan situation right now.
PWI reported he still hasn't been medically cleared yet even though WWE only expected him to be out for a few weeks to a couple months at most. Rumor going online is that Jordan's doctors have cleared him but WWE refuses to do the same.
This seems very weird. Jordan seems like someone they would rush back if the clearance was there. If there's something to this, it's certainly an odd situation. It's possible that Jordan is just out longer than expected and people are misjudging the time-frames he was out by.
I assumed they were just keeping him in their back pocket for some sort of "grand" return, like plugging him into whatever they're trying to accomplish with Mojo.
Then again, that might be me giving WWE writing too much credit again, and they simply forgot he's part of the roster.
His blood tests threw up some surprising information in the ongoing paternity case.
That's honestly (and sadly) prob'ly a better creative direction for him than he'll actually get.

This is a scary accurate description of WWE's habit. Have him lose as much as possible until it actually, REALLY matters. It's like they think the reason Reigns isn't beloved is because he wins too much so jobbing him constantly until they actually need him to win is the cure.

At this point, kind of want Hogan back on tv as soon as possible just to see how bad the backlash gets for the WWE.
The backhand Snickers gave them over the Moolah controversy is going to pale in comparison to what they could get over Hogan. Especially if the rumor of them wanting to put Hogan over in a shameless redemption storyline ends up being true.

I can't watch a 3hr, 10 min show to see one Seth Rollins match or maybe one Elias performance, etc.
That's why I watch the 90-minute Hulu version on Tuesday and skip the shit I don't care to see. It's been a great system. Highly recommend.
I just YT it. (My qualms with Hulu is mentioned elsewhere, and I have long kicked the need to see it as it airs in it's full, unmolested state anymore).
Has its drawbacks, like the rare times WWE is doing their best to either flood the service with their own sponsored clips or putting the banhammer across the board on a night something supposedly fairly monumental happens.... but most of the time, I can get away with actually watching about 35 minutes and be caught up unless they actually have a good, storytelling match somewhere on the card.

I legit thought this was The Miz dressed up in some 80's hair band cosplay. You know how WWE likes to do random themed photoshoots.

I've got a feeling that if The Rock does come back and wrestle at WrestleMania 35 (which I am dubious about) to work with Roman Reigns (which I am also dubious about), then Triple H will wrestle Shawn Michaels on the show. There's no way Triple H is not going to be featured on a WrestleMania card that could potentially spike Network numbers. If he just works a filler match against a guy like Seth Rollins, he won't be able to take credit for being a part of that spike, so he'll be working with a huge name so he can be grouped in with The Rock when they announce the numbers going up. "We had The Rock vs. Roman Reigns, Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels, Ronda Rousey, John Cena, etc."
It'll be either Michaels or they'll cave and give Big Dave that call.
