Puke Hogan literally ripping a blood-soaked Iraqi flag in half. What a crazy time.

One thing I've been noticing about this era looking back is how when people get pinned, they still tend to kick out a little AFTER the three count, like they were still trying. Seems more realistic. I'd like to see more of that sort of thing today.

There was some not very attractive chick in a blue dress who was both crying her eyes out at the Savage/Elizabeth reunion and going crazy when Hogan won. I'm sure that night was the time of her life, and my heart smiles for her. Whoever she is.

The most unsettling thing i've EVER seen in wwe was the Tommy Dream, Undertaker spit cup segment. Even undertaker looked like he was legitimately ready to throw up at one point. The most unsettling part is this segment looked entirely legit. The fucking cup was clear so not many ways of faking it. :nono:

According to the Observer, Nia Jax has serious heat with WWE management over her recent antics on social media. Its been rumored she's helping spread the rumors of Alexa Bliss sleeping with someone in management for why she constantly gets big pushes.

Meltzer checked up on those rumors regarding Bliss and found out Nia unfriending Bliss on social media and liking tweets spreading the sleeping rumor being true. Wasn't able to confirm Nia being the origin of the rumors based on something supposedly posted on Instagram.

I'm with The Dastardly Menace on this one. I think Alexa is overrated in every sense, except for looks, except when it comes to looking tough. She's smoking, but has that "Diva" vibe that is hard to take seriously. That being said, I've always said that she clearly works very hard and has the right attitude to continue getting the opportunities she's been getting off the back of how Vince and Kevin probably both want to fuck her.

Nia isn't very good either. In fact, she's worse than Bliss in almost every category. I don't even like her look. Way too glossy to be "menacing." Her personality is too soft to buy vicious. And it's fairly obvious why and how she is in the position she is in.

I said I hope she gets Big Cass'd for that bullshit, but I don't think she will. She will get opportunities for as long as she wants them. She may get a tap on the shoulder and sent to behavior management courses or whatever to create the appearance of things being done. But she'll have to take herself out, which I was hoping was the reason behind the rush to Rousey at Money in the Bank.

Would Rock really care if she was let go honestly? How close are they exactly? I could see where folks in charge might not want to piss Rock off or burn a very valuable bridge there, but is that based on a (false?) assumption that Rock would actually care or hold it against them?

I have several cousinsm, and because I'm not close with them, I don't think I'd go to bat for and certainly can't imagine holding a grudge against a 3rd party for firing.

Ever since MITB, I keep reading and hearing about how Alexa is not that good of a wrestler. One of my top 5 favorite Womens matches in the last 10 years or so is Bliss vs Lynch Tables match at I think Backlash. That was a really good match.

She's in an odd positon.

She's better now than most girls that the company has propped up in its history, but it doesn't help that she's surrounded by peers that are some of the best in the entire history of women's wrestling.

If Alexa was where she is now in, say, 1991 or so, she would have no equal. Now, she's about as average in the ring as Hunter... just without the reign of terror of eating up two hours of TV time weekly, being in the main event every week, being married to Shane, or having some dumb stipulation where she can't be made to look weak in video game promos or video packages, and constantly being talked up like one of the greatest of all time until it was willed to truth instead of being actual fact. However, when she first started appearing on TV and having regular matches, she was total shit.

She's kinda the new Trish Stratus. Remember, Trish was awful too at the start. She got better over time, and eventually became reguarded as arguably one of if not the best of her generation. She worked at that. Alexa is too. And it helps that Alexa can promo and play up her snotty bitch role to a T.

When all is said and done, Alexa has the potential to be remembered for so much more than a nice ass in hotpants. She's not great. Yet. But if her career keeps moving how it's moving, and she keeps improving how she's improving, and barring any crazyness in her future, in 20 years or so, we're going to be talking about her like we talked about Lita in her prime.

RP
06-26-2018, 01:24 AM
To be fair, i'll always remember Alexa for being a nice ass in hotpants.

Also to be fair, the only time i've talked about Lita in the last 5 years is when I talked about ECW guys peeing down her throat.

Was just thinking what gimmick WWE could use at Extreme Rules to actually make it "extreme"... it's a tough go with the parameters they have set. Plus I don't see a main event feud that is in need of "extreme rules" right now. Maybe something with Nia/Ronda/Bliss would qualify as heated enough to warrant "extreme rules"... But everything else isn't ready for the jump past a standard match. AJ/Nakamura would've fit in better at Extreme Rules but they had to chain book that match all spring.

Kinda want to hear what he has to say, but also kind of do t give a shit.

Based on some highlights, seems he lied about when he found out about the investigation and threw the WWE under the bus for firing him but also mentioned how poorly the police handled the investigation overall.

Also admitted the stuff about him being hated backstage was true.

Also revealed what was the original plans for the Enzo-Nia storyline and the RAW 25 stuff that got tossed out.

Apparently, Enzo was to be involved in the APA's poker game. At the beginning of the show, he would lose his Cruiserweight title to The Million Dollar Man when he put it on the table expecting to win the hand (being the cocky heel). He was then to have a match with Goldust (without his title). At the end of the match, The Dudley Boyz were come down and do the flying headbutt and put Enzo through a table. After all this, Nia Jax was going to win back his title from The Million Dollar Man near the end of the show which would have continued their storyline.

The way his storyline with Nia Jax was scheduled to go, was that Enzo would be caught with Alexa Bliss and revealed that he was using Jax as his “heater” to keep the Cruiserweight title while hooking up with Bliss.

Enzo Amore on the Steve Austin podcast?

It's worth a listen. Enzo has undeniable charisma, he's also a character Vince McMahon seems to have been really fond of, so he's of interest. I don't know what he did or didn't do but there isn't enough evidence to label him or convict him of anything. From the way he explains it there was little more he could've done, by the time the story hit the press WWE was going to release him. People say that he knew about it in advance but he says while he did hear of the story there wasn't any person named in the accusation only that the person was a wrestler. The girl who accused him is in and out of institutions and seems to have a history of false claims (so I've read in the past, I think by Meltzer) so to me Enzo should be brought back in after some more time has passed.

I hope Kenny and The Bucks stuck to their guns and stay away from WWE. The way things seem to be going they could be more than set for their post wrestling career.

Like with countless others, I think WWE would want them only because they're making noise elsewhere, and that's attention that WWE isn't getting. It's why they signed CM Punk in the first place, but had no idea what to do with him outside of the previous developmental. All the way back then, he was a name on the indys, and WWE wanted to stifle that. It has only gotten worse over time; the company trying to basically hoard non-homegrown talent. KENTA, Chris Hero, Danielson, Samoa Joe, Prince Devitt, AJ Styles, Bobby Roode, Austin Aries, etc., etc. Pete Dunne is pretty fucking over in spite of being barely seen stateside, and he'd prob'ly be pushed like a goddamn monster in Japan or something... but he's in WWE so others can't have him. Same with Ricochet. He definitely doesn't wrestle in the "WWE style". They wouldn't have given two shits about Will Osprey or Zack Sabre Jr. if they weren't getting buzz on a grand enough scale elsewhere.

And now, it's only getting worse with WWE trying to make inroads in areas they clearly have little interest in. Why are War Raiders in NXT or Gallows & Anderson on the main roster when the company clearly has little focus on tag teams in spite of sitting on a treasure trove of premade AND homegrown teams? Some other promotion wants to center around lucha and "flippy shit"? Fuck it, let's make the CWC and try to sign the most popular guys! Britain swelling into a new hotbed of wrestling? Let's start another offshoot and get some of their bigger names under our umbrella!

As a small consolation, they are able to do what they do well (for the most part) in NXT, but it goes back to my "fool's errand" critique about signing all this talent and even possibly building them up over time down in Florida just to piss any momentum away in short order on national TV after a call-up. Then sit on them until a few years later at a post 'Mania housecleaning. Instead of a potential ROH Champion or someone who dethrones Nick Aldis as a more popular/credible NWA Champion, that guy just sits at catering week after week after week or *maybe* appears on TV to job every so often; being buried by a large paycheck and the "possibility" of a push as a dangling carrot.

Mix of him becoming hugely popular for running the first Spring Break show two years ago and WWE scooping up bigger named indie stars left and right in recent years.

He's basically become like Cody with how well he's built up his brand name the past couple of years. The main difference is Janela built his up purely from the indies while Cody had his WWE career as the foundation for his.

I think I'm going to create an instagram blog of sorts for my pro wrestling adventures this summer and beyond if I stick with it. I've always been reluctant to go to shows since my brother moved out of state. I don't have many friends who like wrestling and the ones who do I dunno, just not my favorite friends and plus they only like WWE. My GF grew up watching wrestling with her brother and playing the videos games so I can get her to watch some big shows with me on the network. I'm going to Takeover Brooklyn with her, but I've bought GA tickets to MLW Battle Riot which has Low Ki vs John Morrison and a 40 Man Battle Riot featuring Pentagon Jr. (that's really all I care about although there are a lot of others announced). And I bought a single GA ticket to Joey Janella's Lost in New York. Lot's of shows going to Melrose Ballroom in Queens so I'm excited to be a part of something like that. Maybe that will become a new hot spot in the wrestling world. I have this idea I will make a friend or two at the shows but who knows. Every ROH show I went to back in the day was filled with trolls so I'm sure this will be the same.

You think this push is an accident? I think they support Styles as "the man" on Smackdown pretty solid.

Over a year as champ is quite the long time, though.... especially when you are actually on the show. They had to have Punk turn heel mid-reign so they could extend some more stories out of him. They would have to do the same with Styles in order to get him a reign that long.

Jordan
06-27-2018, 02:08 PM
I think that is doable, and kind of likley. AJ is better as a heel for sure, so when the time comes for Bryan to move back up... only one good option there.

 at the story of how Brooklyn Brawler managed to get a WWF Championship match in MSG. Pretty much happened due to Vince having a random brain fart and Ken Shamrock being injured at the worst time possible.

The Brooklyn Brawler gathered a ton of amazing stories and memories during his impressive career as an enhancement talent for WWE. His passion for the business later translated into a backstage role which was a position he held for years as well ...

"Okay so we're wrestling in Madison Square Garden and we're having a battle royal. I'm in the battle royal but I'm just a guy to get thrown out, this and that. All of a sudden Ken Shamrock who was scheduled to win the battle royal got injured in her sternum, his chest he got injured," Brooklyn Brawler said on Prime Time with Sean Mooney.

After Shamrock experienced his injury, Brawler said producers of the battle royal went to Vince McMahon and told him Shamrock couldn't win the battle royal because he was hurt. "Put Brooklyn Brawler over, he's local," Vince McMahon replied without realizing he had promised a WWF World Heavyweight Championship shot to the winner of the match.

When Brooklyn Brawler reminded Vince McMahon he promised a World Title shot at the next Madison Square Garden show, Vince McMahon looked at him and said: "You got your match" ...

Brooklyn Brawler said the Shawn Michaels back then was much different than the one we know today. He assumed Michaels would reject the idea of working a match against him, especially at MSG. To his surprise, HBK was accepting of the idea asking Brooklyn Brawler what moves he could do and putting the match together right from the start ...

"I remember The Undertaker walking into the room, into the dressing room and looking at the line-up and it shows me in the main event, he's underneath me and he goes, 'what the f--k is this?' That's what he said. I just said, 'it's not me I didn't do it!' Because nobody wants heat with The Undertaker. But I tell ya, my career, you couldn't even write this the way it happened."

Pretty sweet find. Ever wonder where Bray Wyatt got his gimmick from? One Man Gang had a gimmick in 1984 Florida Championship Wrestling called "Panama Gang". During that time Dusty Rhodes and Mike Rotunda were both in Florida. Pretty crazy resemblance

Bray mentioned in the past that his gimmick was inspired by Waylon Mercy's gimmick. Wouldn't be surprised if Bray latter took some added inspiration from One Man Gang's gimmick considering Dusty was in charge of NXT and probably remembered that gimmick.

Wyatt said that Dan Spivey (who played Waylon Mercy) was at the Performance Center the day he was told that and had a conversation with him. Spivey explained the Mercy character, and Wyatt watched it along with some Robert DeNiro films, Rob Zombie films and Charles Manson interviews and wanted to combine them.

"It became natural for me," Wyatt said. "If you would have thrown Husky a microphone and said 'talk,' it would have been wrong."

Wyatt said as a child he had a really intense childhood friend named Bray White. White was in a car accident when he was a child and lost all feeling in his face, rendering him difficult to knock out. He said that's how he came up with the "Bray" part of his name, and "Wyatt" came from Wyatt Earp.

The "Family" part of the Wyatt gimmick was almost certainly inspired by the Army of Darkness, that was fronted by Kevin Sullivan. They feuded with Dusty and the Windhams.

Lesnar had the Uni title so it's kinda different.

Not to them. Roman Reigns is a three-time Universal Champion in their world. Just like Randy Orton is the youngest WWE Champion and Dolph Ziggler is a former two-time WWE Champion. You don't need to hold the other World Title to be a Grand Slam Champion in their eyes. The belts are literally interchangeable.

Either Vince didn't actually think WWE's stocks would have shot up this much or was really desperate for money for XFL 2.0 since he cost himself over $140 million in selling his stocks way too soon.

If Vince McMahon had known this was coming he’d have surely waited to sell so much stock.

In December, he sold 3,340,000 shares at $28.68 per share to raise $95,791,200 for the XFL start-up. If he sold those shares today at market value (and if he did sell, it would actually be at slightly below market value) he’d have raised $236,672,400 so had he just sat right for six months he could have retained far more stock while raising far more money, and funded a ton of XFL early losses. But either way, he’s at the stage where he can afford however large the losses will be at first. It’s just a decision of giving up or not giving up on the belief it’ll make it long-term. It’s long past the point that money will ever be an issue with him or the XFL.

Good God, that is awful.

According to Vince, XFL 2.0 is going to cost around $500 million to run and support for its first 3 years. Already blew through the initial $100 million just laying the foundation for the league's revival.

Vince McMahon's commitment to his new football league, the XFL, scheduled to kickoff in February 2020 is significantly larger than originally expected.

The WWE chairman, who began the funding of the league by selling approximately $100 million in WWE stock and putting into his wholly owned Alpha Entertainment, has informed insiders that he expects to spend closer to $500 million in the league's first three seasons.

According to his wife, Matt Cappotelli passed away earlier today due to brain cancer.

Cappotelli's wife, Lindsay, wrote on Facebook: "Hey Team Capp...I’ve been struggling with what to say and how to say this, and I’ll probably end up rambling, but here goes. Today my love-my strong, sweet, beautiful love-took his last breath at 3:30 a.m. and went Home to be with Jesus...exactly one year after his brain surgery. You think you can be prepared for this when you know it’s coming, but you just can’t. The only person who’s comfort I want right now is the one who can’t give it to me. I miss him so much. I know where he is now is so much better, but it doesn’t change how much I miss him."

Cappotelli was 38 years old.

Last June, Cappotelli underwent surgery after being diagnosed with a grade four glioblastoma brain tumor. Ninety percent of the tumor was able to be removed, but the remaining portion was too close to his brain stem. Lindsay wrote last month that they met with Cappotelli's neuro-oncologist and it was decided that he was at the point where they should discontinue treatments.

After having all the champs retain at their Best in the World 2018 event, ROH had a title change occur at yesterday's TV tapings.

Jay Lethal defeated Dalton Castle for the ROH Championship.

It was a Fatal 4-Way match with Cody and Matt Taven as the other guys involved. Lethal got the pin over Castle.

I love me some Jay Lethal. It feels like he is "played out" in ROH though. I don't really want to see him in WWE though. I was surprised to see that it was only Lethal's second title win. I guess he did have those TV Title reigns too. I feel the same way about The Briscoes too. It feels like they've been there "too long" and should really be working in New Japan or at Takeover shows, or something.

I'm looking at the guys in ROH at the moment. How is Punishment Martinez? He seems like a guy that would be on the WWE's radar. He seems like a big dude, and he's from Puerto Rico.

Manu works for ROH? Holy shit, The Briscoes are only 33 and 34 years old, respectively.

Rhett Titus is only 30 years old. I'm surprised the WWE has never made a play to get Scorpio Sky either. Good looking man with experience in wrestling and the media.

I just read some NXT house show results and saw that Steve Cutler is still down there. Wow. It seems like he's in a tag team with Wesley Blake and that Gunner is aligned with them also.

Punishment has a good luck but he's kind of sloppy in the ring.

Manu wrestled J-Rocc in what was dubbed a “Future of Honor” match featuring young talent.

That would be fine, except Manu is 33 and J-Rocc is 40.

They had Scorpio Sky. He was in the team hell no anger management skits. Think he said some un-PC stuff online and got canned.

That's sad.

But "WWE Star"?

Being fair: did he not win that season of Tough Enough? That *technically* makes this true, but this kinda sidelined whatever was going to happen with him, if anything.

If somebody like Big Bully Busick could skate by on his cup of coffee all the way to his grave, we can call Capotelli a WWE Star.

That's right. Was he actually under contract at the time?

Great Honky Tonk Man story.

HTM has a habit of buying expired trademarks including Roddy Piper's and The Patriot

At indie shows HTM will have his son wear the Patriot mask at gimmick tables and have him sit next to him signing autographs as the Patriot.

Love the HTM story by Gallows

How much do you think the size of many of today's heels hurts general interest in the product? I just watched the clip of Owens and Strowman from Raw. Psychologically, it just doesn't compute to me. Character-wise, I get that Owens is a shit. But what sort of threat is he? Strowman doesn't look good beating him up and Owens doesn't look great looking like a cowardly piece of shit. The narrative from the storytelling ignores all these elements. It treats everybody like they're the same size (except for when Braun needs to be called a "MONSTER!"), and everyone works like weight classes aren't a thing.

Bobby Lashley and Sami Zayn are another example. Zayn is great at talking and he's incredible in the ring, and yes, he makes a great obnoxious jerk. But how is him working with Bobby Lashley convincingly believable? Every time these big-ass dudes go on the defensive covering up from these heels who hit all their shit on them, I wonder if Joe Average in Alabama is sitting at home going "What the fuck is this shit?"

It reminds me of those video games from DC, where the Green Arrow can somehow hang in there and hit 8-hit combos on Superman or some shit.

Like, if Vader were in the WWE today, he would chase a heel Ricky Steamboat around the ring, and then Steamboat would kick him as he came in and be in control with a chinlock and stomps for 10 minutes as Vader struggled for air.
