During this morning’s WWE Wrestlemania 33 announcement press conference, WWE Superstar John Cena was one of the people who appeared on the panel at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida.

Cena talked about what Wrestlemania returning to Orlando means, but also addressed his Wrestlemania 32 status. Cena said he had been working very hard and trying to get back in time, but said he will not be competing at this year’s event. Cena said this year’s Wrestlemania would mark “the first time in a decade and a half” where he would be watching the event instead of having a match.

This week’s episode of WWE Monday Night Raw garnered an average viewing audience of 3,551,000 viewers on the USA Network. That’s down an average of (-173,000 viewers) from the week prior. Below is how the show did each hour:

Hour one – 3,760,000 viewers
Hour two – 3,614,000 viewers
Hour three – 3,279,000 viewers
Average – 3,551,000 viewers
For some historical comparison, same show last year had 3.54 million, 4.06 million, and 3.86 million for hourly viewers. For even more comparisons, only twice has the 3rd hour been at or above 3.5 million for viewers so far this year.

During Dean's celebration, Harper, Rowan and Strowman made their way back to the ring to beat up on Dean some more, only for Swagger to come out (which got a neat pop; good for him), followed by Sin Cara, then Truth/Goldust (Truth still wearing the delivery guy gear) then the Dudleys, then the Usos, then Stardust, then Mark Henry (plate of pizza in tow which was hilarious). Faces against the heels in a brawl.

Henry and Strowman confronted each other, Henry tried to bribe Strowman with pizza (which the crowd immediately chanted "Pizza! Pizza!" in one of the biggest pops), Strowman got heat knocking it away, then the faces finally cleared the ring except Stardust. He got a pop by eating pizza and hugging Goldust though he eventually got knocked around, had a couple finishers done to him before Goldie finally tossed him out.

Then Ambrose got the mic, thanked the crowd (especially noting how excited the roster gets when they see Chicago on the calendar) and saw us off. Neat thing WWE did to top off a great night.

In one of those "WWE are a heel company so the best way they can make faces is to treat guys badly" moments, I wonder if one of the smartest things they could do for WrestleMania in regards to The New Day is not book them?

There seems to be zero interest in a Tag Title match between them and The League of Nations. Throwing more teams in there isn't going to make it any more exciting. Do you switch the belts to Sheamus & Barrett just to build another match at WrestleMania? Seems a bit silly.

You can have Shane beat Taker in HIAC, then have The Rock come out and do his usual sing-along promo about how great it is to be here. He can announce Orlando as the next host of WrestleMania, or the attendance of The Rock's fans there tonight or something. Then The New Day come out and do some verbal sparring with The Rock, because they're the Tag Team Champions and aren't even on the show, but The Rock walks in here like he owns the place. The Rock says "Whoa, whoa, whoa -- you're right -- you do need a Tag Team Title match. So let me set one up for you right now. Bring out my boys, The Usos!"

The crowd will hate this, but that's sort of the reaction you want. The New Day are stormed, get laid out, take some Splashes and Rock Botttoms, and The Usos basically rob them of the Tag Titles. You know that's the team Vince and co. want to be the tag act going forward. Earlier in the night you can have The Dudleys win a Tables Match against them on the pre-show, so you've now got a way of building to TLC for the belts.

I agree with you, Dale. I've been really into the concepts behind what really makes wrestling work these days. It takes you down a really cool rabbit hole when you consider the stuff Kevin Sullivan managed in WCW when it was beating WWE. So much of the WWE product is subconsciously "Look at how shit this is." Whether it to be the realism of the work, the idea of guys being caught with their pants down backstage for random talky segments, or the active disconnect with promos and reality.

I know it was a special situation, but when Daniel Bryan retired, did they really need to basically retcon the whole Authority angle and basically erase the most prominent years of the man's career?

I brought this up during last weeks Smackdown: so Ambrose gets the shit kicked out of him by Lesnar on Raw, sells the injury during the opening promo on Smackdown and then flies around the ring like Rey Mysterio during the main event.

What the fuck. Ambrose is the shits. His punches suck, he never sells, his promo are WAY too over the top. This is why nobody watches anymore. No emotional investment at all. You can blame the writers, but the writers aren't no selling in the ring, or just doing moves to get their shit in. You can say I'm behind the times with that statement, but I've seen opening matches in 1985 with more crowd reactions than the main events of 90% of Raw.

He USUALLY sells very well. The crowd is USUALLY into him. however at this point I just think he's lost too much and is booked like a retard. But he's done some great stuff whether you want to admit it or not.

Unfortunately, in your case, you're a body guy, and he doesn't have the body, so you're gonna be WAY harder on him. Just like you were with Bryan Danielson.

Ambrose has good height to him, he's just physically very lanky. I don't think it's the be-all, end-all of course but I can't ever really see a scenario where he goes back to wearing no shirt and regular trunks like he did in the indies/FCW.

Ambrose has the build of a swimmer or something. He looks good in the way that a guy in a band looks good. He needs to start looking like a rassler. Bring back the steroids with regulated use or have him get into trunks and look like an insane rassler that actually belongs in a rassling ring. The worst is when he gets his shirt torn off during matches and the jeans make him look lanky and like he's posing for Tiger Beat.

Aesthetic is a big thing and a lot of the entrances and ring attire of guys suck.

Ryback has been a pro for 12 years and sucks worse dick than Ambrose. Ryback wrestles like someone who wants to be loved like a big teddy bear. Does lots of video game moves with no story behind them, loses his place and then hits his weakest looking move of all to win the match as he tries to use the shit that is over by repetition to WAKE UP the crowd.

I've not watched Raw and have only read the results but it sounds like they're just trying to use Ambrose to get heel heat for Triple H so that people will be glad to see Reigns return and kick Triple H's ass/triumph over him at the end.

Of course, the crowd are going to immediately go back to shitting on Reigns the second he returns but Vince doesn't care at this point.

This week's TNA Impact Wrestling episode, featuring Kurt Angle's much-hyped farewell, drew 222,000 viewers. This is down 14% from last week's 258,000 viewers.

The replay drew 58,000 viewers for a total of 280,000 viewers this week. This is down 6% from the total for the February 3rd episode, which was 297,000 viewers.

The return of Seth Rollins is getting closer … sources tell Pro Wrestling Sheet that The Architect is once again training in a wrestling ring — but the former Champ is making sure to play it safe.

Our sources say Rollins has been working in the ring without a brace at his Black and Brave Wrestling Academy in Illinois, usually multiple times a week, but he’s cautious about leg involvement and plays it safe by icing his knee after every training session.

Seth was injured back in November and shortly after underwent reconstructive knee surgery. It was projected he’d be out for 6-9 months at the time, and 4 months of that have already passed.
Assuming he doesn't pull a "Cena", he should be back somewhere between Extreme Rules (best case) and SummerSlam (worst case).

Nonetheless, it’s difficult to hold something like that but if you can, the audience loves it. They were all shocked and surprised. That’s what I try to do: totally surprise our talent. They like to be surprised just like the audience. They like to be entertained so I like to entertain our talent as well. And the talent likes to be entertained or entertain themselves as we all do. It’s one great big entertainment wheel on all fronts.”

AXS TV announced today that Mauro Ranallo will join “Inside MMA” as the new host alongside UFC Hall of Famer Bas Rutten. Ranallo, who currently works for WWE as the lead announcer for Smackdown, will join the show on March 25th. Ranallo is still working with WWE; his WWE deal allows him to do outside projects as long as they do not conflict with his WWE job. Ranallo had the following to say about the new job…

Jim Ross has confirmed that he will be part of the UR Fight iPPV commentary team. The iPPV will feature Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio, Dan Severn vs. tank Abbot, Michael Bisping vs. Chael Sonnen in a Grappling Match and Roy Jones Jr. vs. college basketball player/MMA fighter Vyron Phillips in a Boxing Match.

WWE is expected to make another round of aggressive talent signings from Japan, Mexico and the U.K. over the next few months. The name we heard they are most interested in is Kazuchika Okada, as apparently the key people in charge just found out that he’s tall. New Japan has offered Okada a five-year contract. We don’t know if the deal has been executed and Okada has publicly said he’s loyal to New Japan. They are said to be looking past New Japan, which was their previous target, and now looking at talent in other Japanese groups. There is a top name from AAA and Lucha Underground they are after as well who has never worked for a mainstream U.S. promotion before and is unhappy with the Lucha Underground creative. Because of the weakness of the peso vs. the dollar, everyone who works Mexico is looking for as much American work as possible. There was a time where if you were a top wrestler in Mexico, you could earn more than in WWE unless you were a pushed guy in WWE, but now any kind of a decent WWE deal is going to pay better than a Mexican deal for just about anyone.

The Observer is also reporting that plans for the McMahon Family’s WrestleMania 32 role have been changed in the last few days. While the opening Raw segment is usually re-written every week, the opening promo for this past Monday’s Raw in Chicago was re-written just moments before the show started, as if Stephanie’s promo from the week before never happened. The opening segment for this week was supposed to feature Shane responding to what Stephanie said last week, and say a key line, which is that Stephanie and Triple H better make good on their promise to quit WWE if Shane beats The Undertaker. Otherwise, Shane will fire them both on Raw the night after ‘Mania.

It’s also worth noting that word going around WWE is that Shane got “lost” during his promo in Chicago. Shane also got “lost” during his return promo two weeks ago and Vince reportedly did a good job at covering for him, and it wasn’t very noticeable to the crowd.
Possible Mania spoiler in regards to Shane's stipulation on the Authority:
Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon & HHH are all advertised for the 4/11 Raw at the Staples Center in Los Angeles -- one week after WrestleMania. I guess that means they don't all get fired on the day after or the people doing the advertising are being told the wrong info.

Exactly how much of this is legit or exaggerated you can make up your own mind, but the Vince McMahon vs. HHH dynamic is something that everyone is talking about internally, even more since Shane McMahon appeared on the scene. The feeling is that if Shane McMahon actually does come back into the company in an executive capacity that it’ll be Vince playing Shane against HHH and Stephanie.

While publicly HHH will say Vince loves NXT, the internal perception is very different, seeing it as a touring brand filled with so many guys Vince doesn’t believe are money ...

The questions regarding Reigns given how he’s not gotten over with HHH as his adversary for so long has led to plenty of finger pointing, although a lot of people pointed to the crotch chop on Raw as the sign HHH is no longer really behind the cause of getting Reigns over as a face. Perhaps that’s just paranoia and frustration, but the way Reigns was eliminated at the Rumble and the HHH/Reigns interaction with him has been curious to say the least
More details on the rumored internal power struggle and it spilling over to other areas.

Shawn Michaels was interviewed by ESPN and teased being a part of Mania, and indicated he would be part of the show. There were at least two suggestions for Michaels that we’ve heard. One was to be the referee in the HHH vs. Reigns title match, as the concept (Batista being the original choice) was to put in a guest referee to stack the deck against Reigns for him to overcome. The other was to do a run-in similar to the DX and NWO deal last year in one of the matches. In that instance, he’d be part of a group scene with legends similar to last year. Michaels said he retired because he wanted to focus on raising his kids and that he felt he needed a clean break from wrestling because wrestling can infiltrate every aspect of your life.

According to PWInsider, AAA star Garza Jr. is set to work a WWE tryout camp in March. Garza, the nephew of former WCW star Hector Garza, is expected to sign with the company for NXT and possibly the WWE Global Cruiserweight Series.

The belief is that despite Garza’s young age, his experience will bring a veteran mindset. Garza’s cousin Ultimo Ninja will be coming with him to the tryouts

A deal is very close to selling season one to Netflix, and if that deal happens, it makes the iTunes deal obsolete because why would people pay a few dollars for an episode or a higher figure for the full season when they can just get it for a Netflix subscription? The idea as it stands right now is if the deal happens, the Netflix deal will only be for the first season and iTunes would still get the second season
In other Lucha Underground news, tapings for Season 3 starts on March 19th and once finished, nothing else is planned for tapings till early 2017.

There has been a push for New Day doing a major entrance at Mania. What we are told is that they wanted to fly around the stadium on unicorns, but the company has not approved it and we’re told it’s less than 50 percent that it will be approved.
One of the ideas the New Day was pitching for their Mania entrance this year.

There will be a substantial delay if there will ever be a Jimmy Snuka trial, as a hearing regarding Snuka’s mental competence that was scheduled for this month has been moved to 5/30 to give mental health experts sufficient time to complete their evaluations and decide whether he fully understands the charges and if he’s competent to stand trial. Snuka’s attorney claimed he is not competent to stand trial due to dementia and post-concussion related issues

However, the one point that everyone talks about is the treatment of Breeze on the main roster. It created an issue that a lot of NXT talent, while the goal is the main roster and the money on the main roster, they are loving it in NXT, and they see Breeze as someone who was an NXT star who was ready to be a WWE star and then got treated the way he did. It led to a lot of questions regarding whether people wanted to be brought up. Don’t get me wrong, people do because the money difference is huge, but there’s also the feeling that NXT is really fun and the main roster is the culmination of a lifelong dream but very frustrating. In particular there was the heat because of the timing of the “Breaking Ground” show on the network where they made it such a big deal how Breeze was moving to the main roster, and that by the time that segment aired, he was getting buried like a job guy on the main roster.

During a podcast interview with Ric Flair, Michael Hayes said that Terry Ray Gordy Jr. (the son of Terry Gordy, who previously worked as Jesse of the Jesse & Festus tag team with Doc Gallows) and Buddy Roberts Jr., who did some independent wrestling out of Chicago, would be accepting the Hall of Fame plaques for their respective fathers. He didn’t say Kevin Von Erich would be inducting The Freebirds, but did hint at it. Von Erich said he was coming but has only talked with the WWE twice, and neither time did they tell him he would be inducting Hayes.

As we mentioned on last night's Wrestling Observer Radio, Ken Anderson is not only no longer in TNA, but he cut a promo where he said a nasty word about TNA at an ICW house show over the weekend.

Thursday’s WWE Smackdown averaged 2.186 million viewers for USA Network, according to Showbuzzdaily.com. The number was down from the 2.491 million count from last week.

Pro Wrestling Sheet is reporting Anderson was fired because he failed a drug test. Apparently he worked a match against Eric Young, "appeared to be under the influence," was asked to take a drug test backstage, and sent home immediately after. The results of that test are what reportedly led to his release.

The match he was possibly under the influence during was supposed to air on Jan. 19 but was pulled from the show because of this situation.

The third season starts taping on 3/19 and after that, they will move everything out and there won’t be anything more until early 2017. Once again, they will have to either raise money to film a fourth season or get new television deals to help pay for the filming of the fourth season. But this buys them a lot of time to do so, but it also will leave talent with no work for months and give WWE the chance to try and cherry pick the top guys, some of which they are already interested in. There are contracts involved, so that does become tricky

An edit has been spotted in the “NXT Greatest Matches Vol. 1” DVD/Blu-ray content.

In the first match featured on the compilation, Seth Rollins vs. Jinder Mahal from 2012, Rollins’ Curb Stomp (Blackout) finishing move has been edited out. That part of the match has not been completely omitted, but as the move is being delivered a crowd shot is shown instead.

The replay of the match ending then shows Rollins covering Mahal without the Curb Stomp before hand, and therefore the music playing in the background doesn’t quite match up correctly.

Rumor has it the move was ‘banned’ by WWE management last year.

Jim Ross' debut as a boxing announcer for CBS Sports was scheduled for tomorrow night in Las Vegas, but due to an issue with the athletic commission, the entire show has been canceled. Ross is scheduled to return to Las Vegas to announce a 4/16 show.

Traylor was in particular lauded for never breaking the gimmick, which wasn’t easy in certain cases. It could be a really cool story if they go in that direction. An aging, jealous Y2J, trying desperately to rationalise his actions and get a win over AJ. He is angry, as a legend, future hall of famer, having to prove himself against a guy who has only just joined the big time.

Bitter, angry and self-righteous Y2J is the way to go. Have him do something desperate and despicable to win at Mania so things get more personal and heated.

Adrian Neville (aka Benjamin Satterly) will miss this year's WrestleMania after suffering a broken ankle and a broken shinbone in a match with Chris Jericho on Raw Monday night.

Following the first commercial break, Neville went for a baseball slide and caught his foot and ankle on the canvas. It was clear he was hurt, but it also appeared that he was going to try to continue the match. They did one quick highspot, but as Neville was trying to hop to the ropes, he collapsed.

The 3/14 edition of Raw did 3,458,000 viewers, down from last week's 3,551,000 viewers. It's not a great sign going into WrestleMania, especially given it followed the Roadblock special. The only good news was that hour three, which featured Triple H wrestling, was the most watched of the night, doing 3,510,000 viewers.

Hour 1: 3,471,000 viewers
Hour 2: 3,392,000 viewers
Hour 3: 3,510,000 viewers
Being implied in most reports that daylight savings time played a big role for the good 3rd hour. For some comparison, last week was 3.76 million, 3.61 million, and 3.27 million for hours.

It beat only the 2/1 show for the lowest since 1997 outside of football season and holidays. The opening hour was the least viewed 8 PM hour for the show since football season and the lowest rated non football/holiday number since the Monday Night Wars.
In regards to the bad records this week's RAW set.

Our sources say that despite not being used much on Impact Wrestling in 2015, TNA’s creative team were looking to give his character a new lease on life with a talk show segment.

The segment — called “Huh?” with Mr. Anderson — aired on January 12th and we’re told producers planned to make it a reoccurring segment after they were happy with how it it turned out.

Bray Wyatt has a pretty significant back injury, which is why his match with Lesnar at Roadblock ended up as Lesnar vs. Luke Harper. No word on how long he’ll be out of action.

Neville had some repeat testing done in Orlando today which included X-Rays and a cat scan of his ankle. Upon further review, it has been determined that surgical repair of the ankle would not be necessary. Instead, he will be treated nonoperatively with a cast and crutches. The estimated return for this type of fracture is usually 2 to 3 months.

Lucha Underground ran their first house show on 3/15 in Austin, TX, as part of the SWSX convention. The show was free to everyone at the convention, but drew about 3,500 fans, which is a very healthy turnout. Aero Star did a plancha off a 12 foot balcony, and may have gotten seriously injured doing it. The main event saw Rey Mysterio Jr. & Prince Puma & Cage beat Johnny Mundo & PJ Black & Jack Evans

State Representative Zack Hudgins of Tukwila, WA, is behind a bill attempting to reclassify pro wrestling as theatrical wrestling and remove all regulation from the shows. Basically it allows independent shows to run less expensively due to not needing a fully-staffed ambulance on site for the events. Hudgins has proposed similar bills in the past that haven’t gotten any traction
Should just rename it Artistic Combat instead.

An interesting note is that the Dish Network is apparently dropping USA from its basic package and moving it to a higher paid tier. This could mildly hurt the audience for Raw, but also could slightly increase the rating. The Raw audience is largely a loyal weekly audience and those who regularly watch will either pay the extra for USA and still watch, or drop Dish. There is the small audience that flips the channels and if they have Dish and suddenly come upon wrestling, that audience won’t be there. At the same time, what will happen is the number of homes that gets the USA Network will decrease because Dish subscribers that don’t care about USA will no longer be in the total, so you’re getting a small artificial ratings boost out of it theoretically starting next week.

According to Pwinsider.com, former NXT performers Sylvester LeFort and Marquis Louis are backstage at today’s TNA Impact Wrestling taping in Orlando Florida. At this time, it is not known if they will be working the tapings or if they are just there visiting.

Drew Galloway won the TNA title from Matt Hardy on the almost live 3/15 TV show. Galloway nearly didn’t even get to Florida as he had all kinds of travel issues getting out of Germany over the weekend. As for the show itself, they threw a ton out and it felt way over-written. It felt more minor league than it did even a few months ago which has to do with pushing new talent without names that aren’t talented enough to feel like stars. It’s not bad at all, but in today’s environment, not bad at all doesn’t cut it any longer when WWE produces so much content and indies are filled with action that is great

It hasn’t been announced yet and obviously this would be late stuff if it happens since it wasn’t in the magazine, the WWE was looking at putting together deals to get Snoop Dogg into the WWE Hall of Fame (in the spot this year originally set for Regis Philbin) and to give Joan Lunden the Warrior Award. Last year was the argument that it isn’t what Warrior suggested, and it very clearly wasn’t, as he suggested an award for people who work backstage as good employees for little notice (mentioning Jimmy Miranda, and he actually the award named after Miranda, not himself). But you could argue last year’s induction of Connor Michalek did serve a greater good. This year it does in a sense that honoring celebrities who have powerful TV names is good for business in a number of ways. In this case, Lunden was the longtime host of Good Morning America who has battled breast cancer very publicly
Basically WWE still isn't going to follow Warrior's last wish for his award but will keep the trend of honoring those who battle cancer.

Regarding Foley at WrestleMania, when asked by The Sporting News if he was going to be part of the show, he said that he said he almost always is part of the show and indicated it would be a small thing. We’d been told Foley was scheduled for a cameo appearance similar to the New Age Outlaws and DX thing last year. Foley did his last one man show of the year on 3/13 in Indianapolis. He noted that he’s been working the shows on a percentage of the house deal with clubs and seemed frustrated at not being able to get guarantees so was going to at least take the rest of the year off. He’s got a deal for a WWE network comedy show with his daughter Noelle. A Foley show for the network has already shot one episode and there are plans to run a season. Foley also gave the impression he’d like to have a role in creative in regarding to the women’s division. Foley has been a big advocate of the women on the roster since the 2014 Charlotte vs. Natalya NXT match

Paul Heyman’s Heyman Hustle has signed a digital distribution deal with Yahoo’s Turnstile blog/site that kicks off March 28th. Yahoo Studios is also going to produce a feature on Heyman’s role with Brock Lesnar in WWE in contrast with his work for the Looking For Larry agency.

We’re pretty sure that you’re not allowed to open up a restaurant named after a world-famous pro wrestler that serves meals named after other world-famous pro wrestlers, but…it looks like someone in Mexico did it anyway!

The restaurant is called John Cena Burger & Taco, and it serves, well, burgers, tacos, quesadillas, and just about anything you could possibly want. Better yet, each and every meal that’s served in the restaurant is named after a wrestler, so you can order one by saying, “Give me The Undertaker” or “I’ll have a Randy Orton.” We’ll go out on a limb and say that the food probably isn’t spectacular—though these reviews suggest that some of it is—but hey, when you’re eating a meal named after your favorite wrestler, who cares?

According to the Observer, it is very unlikely the WWE will have an actual building for the Hall of Fame ready by next year's Mania assuming they still want it located in Orlando or nearby.
Observer recently hinted even with the ratings decline, the WWE might still be able to get a somewhat decent raise with their next tv contract although well below whatever they'd be expecting or hyping. No way they come close to getting sports-type range for money. Biggest blow to any big hopes is going to be ad rates since WWE is around 1/7th what NASCAR generates and that sport had similar ratings declines recently. Also NBC is losing more money ad-wise with the WWE than FOX who are making a very small profit with NASCAR for some comparisons.
Garza Jr from Mexican promotion AAA recently had a tryout at WWE's Performance Center. Expected to be in one of the spots reserved for Mexican wrestlers in the upcoming Cruiserweight tournament.
