WWE is just flat out entertainment really.

 at the Cena-Nikki relationship drama led to the lowest ever viewed episode in Total Bellas history.

Both of them and E! struck out big time with this for the show. They really overestimated the amount of interest people actually have for the couple and for this breakup angle.

The season three premiere of Total Bellas on E! on Sunday 5/20 garnered just 517,000 overnight viewers and a 0.3 in the 18-49 demo.

That means the hype, whether you believe it was real or worked, surrounding the John Cena-Nikki Bella relationship split, the cancellation of their wedding and their apparent reconciliation, as well as the attention devoted to it on The Today Show, Extra and other outlets, meant nothing in terms of hooking an audience that would be larger than usual.

In fact, it was not only the least watched premiere live, but it was the lowest watched episode ever for the Total Divas-spinoff.

Continuing my long weekend watching of WWF B Shows.

Watching some WWF 1997 Shotgun Saturday Night.

Ahmed Johnson is cutting a promo in the middle of the ring. All I understood was "I missed my Prozac". Murdering some jobber. Earlier in the show Bulldog and Owen beat the New Blackjacks by dq in a terrible match. Vader also squashed some jobber. I love 1997 WWF. It's tremendous.

Pillman on commentary is amazing with JR

Watching another episode. So apparently Rob Van Dam and Jerry Lawler teamed up against the Headbangers on Shotgun Saturday Night. I had no idea this happened.

Currently watching Jim the Anvil Neidhart vs Jesse Jammes lol

Those reality shows do really well within a certain timeframe, but they don't have the enduring ability to really hook people. The "Total" bandwagon is not going to stay steady forever.

Either its not as flashy as a big finisher now or usually looks terrible when its not Luger doing it. Guess its also possible to injure yourself doing it as in Nikki Bella's case.

Thinking about streaming a 100 man, Monday Night War Royal Rumble with Fire Pro.

Have never streamed before, and don't really know anything about it. Dunno how good the stream would be given my computer is pretty basic. Not even a gaming laptop, though it is good enough to play some relatively graphic intensive games like Street Fighter x Tekken and Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Haven't tried newer games but they probably don't run well, if at all.

Actually, an amendment to that: there is one that I just remembered that did frustrate me, because I really wanted to know the answer, but Corny actually did kind of back away from this one.

It was about The Undertaker and why he is so respected. By the time you get to 1998, he's embedded in the company as this locker-room leader and presence that everybody already spoke about like he was a legend. But that's only 7 years with the company. Kofi Kingston is in year 11. Dolph Ziggler poked his head up there first in 2005 -- 13 years ago. The Miz in 2004 -- 14 years ago.

Anyway, Corny's answer was basically "Because he's the fucking Undertaker," which I found to be a really inspecific and weird deflection of the question. But actually, I suppose that does speak to the presence the guy probably carries himself with, which is why people probably treat him differently to, say, Erick Rowan, who is already over half-way to that tenure too.

Ol Dirty Dastard
05-24-2018, 09:49 AM
lol

I'm not saying it's a bad thing that he does that. People usually ask him specific questions that few would have the answer for. It usually leads to a history lesson and even an understanding of how to market and run ANY business, not just the wrestling business.

Yeah, I think that actually kinda answers the question. It has less to do with tenure and more to do with the fact that... he's the fucking Undertaker. He comes off like a guy who commands respect. Most of the guys today, including the ones you mentioned, come off like guys who command video game tournaments before the show.

According to the Observer, WWE found a new target to go after and be the basis for another signing spree. This time its Major League Wrestling and all due to them getting a tv deal recently.

There were reports that WWE approached several wrestlers under contract to MLW. According to legal papers sent, the talent advised MLW of the offers and told WWE they were signed, but WWE told the wrestlers they should still come to a tryout and be around the system. In the past, WWE would back off when approaching talent under contract to a degree due to what happened in the past with ROH. They’ll still get word indirectly to tell people not to renew their deals like they did with ROH (and there were guys in ROH based on promises made and such while under contract that one would think was tampering, and that’s what led to the legal situation last year where WWE had to pull all offers from ROH talent and waited months after their contracts expired before approaching them again, although in the end the guys like Kyle O’Reilly, Adam Cole and Bobby Fish all came. The MLW deals signed with its key talent were for multiple years. A key may have been MJF signing with MLW

Not sure on exclusive guys but just seems WWE got really petty because MLW beat them to signing MJF to a deal.

In terms of commentary team, they do have Tony Schiavone in the booth.

Seen very little of MJF but his resemblance to EC3 is crazy.

I heard Tony was very good for MLW.

He has to go back and listen to his old WCW shit for his podcast with Conrad and I get the idea he uses it to sharpen up his toolkit. Plus, he was actually a fantastic commentator before 1998.

MLW is really good actually. I've been watching by casting it from youtube as I don't have beinsports. The wrestling is solid as heck, the productions is probably the best out there aside from Lucha Underground and NJPW. I mean it's better than ROH. Plus it has Tony and I love him. Aside from my love for him (nostalgia, that voice) he has been upping his game big time. It's a fun show, I wouldn't be as into it without Tony though. But luckily he signed for 3 years.

Doubt it although he might perform a lot better due to having more training under his belt and unlike last time, didn't have an injury or two interfere with his development.

Punk's biggest value for UFC is being able to bring in a sizeable wrestling crowd for hype and events but if he loses badly again, him as a draw is pretty much over. If he wins, UFC could parlay that into a 3rd fight to squeeze more from his wrestling drawing power.

Looks like WWE finally got the biggest female star they wanted going back the last 2 years.

The original plans for last year's MYC had the winner be between Io and Toni Storm based on them signing deals with Io being the favorite of the two.

Io Shirai, who was considered the biggest women's wrestling star in Japan, looks to be headed to WWE.

Tokyo Sports reported in its Monday newspaper that Shirai would be going to WWE and her final show with Stardom would be June 17th. Sources close to her have confirmed the story.

Shirai, real name Masami Odate, 28, was named Japanese Women's MVP in 2015, 2016, and 2017.

She was first contacted by WWE in October 2016. She and Kairi Hojo (now Kairi Sane) both went back-and-forth on deals since the WWE contracts were for less money than they were making, but they were convinced the upside of becoming stars outside of Japan were enticing. She finally accepted the deal last May, however a heart issue was discovered in WWE medical examining and WWE rescinded the offer last June, and she returned to Stardom. She underwent a full medical examination in Japan and was fully cleared and has been the top star in the company since.

She lost her Wonder of Stardom title to Momo Watanabe on Wednesday night, which started rumors of her being WWE-bound. However, in that case, one had nothing to do with the other as the booking plan was for Watanabe, who they hope to be a future top star, needed the win at this time. The promotion wasn't aware of Shirai leaving until today.

They don't really make PPV posters like they used to.

Much like their T-Shirts, most of their PPV posters have declined in design and originality over the recent years.

Most of the time it's just a publicity shot of 1-4 wrestlers that have been cut out and stuck on to a background of either black, white or the WWE's own photo of a WWE event taking place.

In the cases of big events or big matches taking place, they have nearly half the entire roster's publicity shots just crammed into the poster.

I actually met Johnny Knoxville very shortly after the death of Dunn in a random bar in NYC. I was at a big party and there was tons of people there and I look over to the bar and there is Johnny all by himself looking sad as hell. I saw like two blondes trying to hit on him and he just stared straight ahead. I went up next to him to order a beer and said I was from Knoxville, and we chatted for a second. He gave a little bit of a shit to talk to me because we are from the same place but man he was out of it. That was in like 08 or 09.

I think WWE should restart the Memphis Territory and take advantage of the old timers they have left. I'm talking Lawler and Jarrett and BG James maybe. Relight the Memphis territory with it's own WWE development, get it an hour on the network weekly and see what happens. I'd love if it was like a character territory where it's all about the entertainment aspect of sports entertainment. I want people to be able to cut promo's that make me want to watch a match.

Based on early data, RAW likely going to get slaughtered this week in ratings and viewers. Warriors/Rockets Game 7 generated a huge number while Game 1 of the Stanley Cup did really well compared to the last 2 years for numbers.

Raw ratings are delayed this week due to Memorial Day and aren’t expected to be released until Wednesday. SmackDown ratings should be released on Thursday. Raw had tough competition from game seven of the Golden State Warriors vs. Houston Rockets in the NBA Western Conference finals and the Las Vegas Golden Knights vs. Washington Capitals in the opening game of the Stanley Cup finals. Warriors vs. Rockets averaged 14.8 million viewers, while the hockey game averaged 5.27 million on TV and digital platforms.

Seeing 2005 Abyss last night again was kind of a revelation. 2005 Abyss from a physique and mobility perspective is a totally different guy than I'd seen in the past few years on random TNA episodes, but I guess that's par for the course for a big dude who's been wrestling hardcore matches and flying off stages and into thumbtacks for like 15+ years.

As far as TNA themes, they fell into three categories: the rare good one (say what you want, but I think Syxx's theme was better/more fitting than just about *any* theme he used in WWE), the vast majority of middling production sounding tracks that were supposed to actually be good somehow (like said RVD theme), and the blatant ripoffs (see: Triple X, Tomko, or MCMG).

Jarrett's was okay because it seemed like it actually had some thought put into making it unique. Same with AJ's. And Abyss. I'd even say Amazing Kong and Hernandez were alright (until Hernandez's theme got way overproduced) I won't count 3LK or LAX, because Truth and Konnan have a hand in music, so they had a hand in production for themselves.

Pretty high. They routinely draw 1500-2000 and the crowds are very lively. Jarrett actually offered us huge discounts to come up to Toronto for GFW tapings because we were so loud. . They run major shows a few times a year and small shows here and there. I'd put it a notch below Smash Wrestling out of the Toronto area. The partnership with Impact has existed in some sort of fashion since D"Amore started with TNA but it has ramped up great since he took over creative. Guys like Kongo Kong and Idris Abraham are Border City Wrestling guys. I could easily see it become a feeder for Impact.

Based on the early stage of the trial and opinions of those following the case, seems WWE's doctor is likely losing his libel lawsuit against Punk.

He's suing Punk for libel but during the trial stated he is only claiming emotional damages, admitted Punk's claims have not hurt his job status, and seems he did the lawsuit because of people ridiculing him online and not solely because of Punk's statements.

Making things worse for the doctor is several text messages and evidence that showed him acting in a non-professional and juvenile way towards those that seeked his medical help in the WWE.

Also seems the doctor might have opened himself up to a lawsuit from Punk and risking his medical license since it got revealed he likely violated HIPAA by disclosing Punk's medical history to others without his knowledge.
