Seems Cody confirmed he had negotiations with WWE over the "Cody Rhodes" trademark which led to him getting the "Cody Rhodes" name back and in return dropped his filings for two WCW/Dusty-related concepts.

Him only wanting the name back to use for non-wrestling projects seems to have been the key reason why the deal ended up being made.

AEW TNT Champion Cody spent nearly an hour with the media Thursday, answering questions about whether a trilogy match with Nick Aldis will ever happen, why he will stick to the stipulation of never challenging for the AEW World title, Dark, and why the TNT title means so much to him ...

While he is happy to get the Rhodes last name back, he won't use it in the wrestling space. His real goal was to use it for third party ventures (ex. Go Big Show, acting gigs). He didn't provide any details on the negotiations but said it was a "no hard feelings" type arrangement.

I know Taker was talking up his AJ match as being how he wants to end his career but I kinda feel like there’s no way he doesn’t wanna finish with a match in front of a crowd.

That said there’s nothing stopping him from walking out during any given WM and Tombstoning someone. Same effect.

Apparently the reason why Mercedes Martinez was quickly pulled from Retribution was due to her requesting it prior to the group signing new main roster contracts as part of their call-up.

Some may have forgotten, but there was originally another Retribution member. When the identities of the masked individuals were revealed, Mercedes Martinez was among them. Then, suddenly, she wasn’t.

Almost immediately afterward, Martinez returned to NXT. No explanation was given on television, but now new details about it have come to light. Fightful Select (subscription required) is reporting that the word among talent is that Martinez asked to no longer be part of the group. This request was made prior to the group signing new contracts.

Her new name was set to be Retaliation so there was definitely some thought put into her inclusion. This departure has left Mia Yim (or Reckoning) as the lone female member of the group. This has caused her to not be able to wrestle since her arrival on the main roster. The report also stated that there are currently no plans to add another female member to Retribution.

Mercedes Martinez has not wrestled in NXT since September 8 where she lost to Rhea Ripley in a steel cage match. It remains to be seen what she will do in NXT going forward.

Apparently early into the coronavirus pandemic, some WWE talent were getting their coronavirus testing done by AEW instead of the company they actually worked for.

This was before WWE had their first big outbreak in June and started to actually get serious with the coronavirus. Before that, Triple H made several BS claims about the stuff they were doing to combat the coronavirus was more effective than what other companies were doing.

Fightful Select is reporting that some WWE stars claimed to get their first COVID test back in May at the AEW Double or Nothing pay-per-view event, as WWE allegedly wasn’t testing talent for the virus at the time.

The site is reporting that WWE talent who visited for the pay-per-view event back in May were tested for the virus, as was everyone at the building. Some reportedly revealed that this was their first COVID test:

WWE came under heavy fire of for their lack of COVID-19 testing in the initial stages, and we’ve heard a story related to that coming out of the AEW PPV this weekend. When discussing AEW COVID protocols with several AEW names, several told us that WWE stars visiting All Elite Wrestling for Double or Nothing in May actually claimed they got their first coronavirus tests from AEW the weekend of Double or Nothing, because otherwise they weren’t permitted at the events or functions. Even after there were positive tests within WWE months prior, the company didn’t do testing along the way until Mid-June.

WWE came under fire for not testing for COVID for several months. Until mid-June, WWE were reportedly only doing temperature checks and having talent fill in questionnaires as opposed to actually testing for the disease.

According to MLW, them returning on Wednesdays for their weekly tv series wasn't their decision and instead was made by their tv network partners.

They originally wanted to be on Thursdays as part of their The Restart plans but the networks wanted Wednesdays instead due to it being an established night for tv wrestling.

Only bright side is they won't be going head-to-head against NXT and AEW since their show ends before the start of NXT and Dynamite.

Supposedly WWE is currently considering the idea of running their shows at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida according to the Observer.

The big downside is Tropicana has power issues so WWE would need to reconfigure their ThunderDome to be less of an energy hog and hope they don't run into a power outage during a show if they move there.

Watching the vid of it she seems to throw her pretty hard so might not have given her an opportunity to grab the rope. She goes far out between the ropes with the momentum behind her so would have been hard to get a hold of the rope properly.

Supposedly WWE is currently considering the idea of running their shows at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida according to the Observer.

The big downside is Tropicana has power issues so WWE would need to reconfigure their ThunderDome to be less of an energy hog and hope they don't run into a power outage during a show if they move there.

Johnny Gargano was a guest on the Wrestle Buddies podcast and discussed NXT being viewed as a “developmental” despite being on the USA Network. Gargano also touched on the notion that talents who’ve been in NXT for a long period of time have to depart but that never holds the same for RAW and SmackDown talents.

“I love it. I mean I’ve done so many interviews where I said it’s a viable third brand even before it got on the USA Network, and now that it’s obviously been on the USA Network for a year, then it only furthers my case and I know there are still people out there that view it as a developmental brand and I wish those people would get out of their own way. Because for some reason, they look at that as a negative thing, but if you look at it in that sense, RAW is a developmental brand, SmackDown is a developmental brand, NXT’s developmental. We’re all still growing. I mean everything should be a developmental brand at this point. I think everything is interchangeable. We’ve seen people like Finn Balor come back. We’ve seen people like Ember Moon come back, we’ve seen people move on. I believe in my heart of heart that NXT is a third brand and for people out there that say things like, ‘Oh, Undisputed ERA should leave. They’ve been there too long’ or, ‘Tommaso should leave, he’s been there too long’ or, ‘Johnny should leave. He’s been there for too long.’ You weren’t saying the same thing about Seth Rollins on SmackDown. You weren’t saying the same thing about Seth Rollins [when] he was on RAW. I never saw that narrative where, ‘Seth Rollins should leave RAW.’ No one ever said that. So I think everyone should just calm down, enjoy the content, enjoy the matches you see and I think everything will be good.”

Don't think Johnny Gargano understands what the word "developmental" means since the main goal of developmental is to not get stuck there since that would mean something went wrong with your training and progress. Same for the main brands can't be developmental since that's the "major league" of WWE in terms of a sports perspective.

If a main roster talent gets sent down, in a normal sports sense that would mean either they are rehabbing an injury and using the minors to get back into top level production shape or they are struggling and need to go down a level to work out some issues.

WWE's whole developmental system and call-up system has been messed up for years because of a few morons running things in the company.

Him and Tommaso Ciampa have made similar claims in the past regarding their views of WWE's developmental system and people's issues with it over the past year or so.

If this was just a one-off, then yeah it would be nothing more than simple PR speak from him but based on stuff him and Ciampa have mentioned before, they really do not like to be considered as "minor league" stars nor like NXT being seen as less equal to the main roster since that makes their star status look weaker.

Ciampa was also the one who ranted about how NXT stars shouldn't be used as the crowd for WWE's empty arena shows since that's below their status and used the excuse of main roster talent not being given that treatment as his reasoning.

According to WrestleVotes, WWE is currently considering the idea of pushing back next year's WrestleMania by a couple of weeks under the hope that it might give them a better chance to have fans at the event.

That's not a bad idea really. If the forecast of getting a ton of people vaccinated by that time is correct then that'll give them a shot to get a live crowd. I do think they should scale down the venue size tho.

The only people possibly getting the vaccine that fast are senior citizens.

Alexa replied, "WWE takes care of us 100%. We are in a contract and anything that happens inside the ring, WWE takes care of. Our health is 100% priority with the company. They could have waited and built the story up to a point where they had the top guys, but in true wwe fashion Vince blew his load with what he had and it was a forgettable storyline.

Still think WWE should have done the Invasion storyline as a multi-wave one since that would have given them the time needed to bring in the more notable big name WCW stars for it. ECW joining the invaders should have happened much later since that would have helped bridge the gap in time for the storyline.

It would have avoided most of the big problems that storyline had and also remove Austin's defection since that made litttle sense considering how much he actually hated WCW over how he was treated there.

There were lots of issues with the Invasion. Not being able to get the WCW names was a big one. Even if you could buy out their contracts, top WWF guys would want pay-offs. Plus, Vince had conditioned his audience to believe that WCW sucked and went out of business because they sucked. The WWF audience was interested in the story, no doubt, but they weren’t all WCW fans, so there was an education issue. Then you also had it as a McMahon storyline, which I remember not even remotely buying into as a kid.

I don’t think you do it right away. You want authenticity, and the core of the story is that Vince owns WCW now. We know that. So if WCW comes back it’s got to be under his auspices. He’s either parading it around like a trophy or he ignores it completely, because who cares about WCW, right? You can bring in guys like Lance Storm, but they’re not WCW guys. No one believes that. They’re WWF guys that Vince has acquired the contracts of. Storm can be promoted by Regal as the guy to take the IC Title off Jericho. That’s easy and believable.

You make the WWF audience *care* about the WCW guys first. Mike Awesome can win the Hardcore Title off Kane. Shane Helms and Billy Kidman can pad out the Light Heavyweight Division. DDP and Kanyon can be a tag team. Whatever. Just don’t try and convince me they aren’t approved to be there.

Then, once the big names are free, that’s when you start bringing in WCW guys, as WWF guys, but obviously carrying the spirit. That’s when they start rebelling. Flair is the perfect instigator for it. He can convince Booker T to bring back his big gold belt. But hopefully he’d have been a little over in the WWF with the WWF crowd by now.

Have WCW bubble up. The guys from WCW jumping the rail as a siren blares is just not believable.

Unionization has been bandied about for eons. If Yang actually gets involved and makes life miserable for the WWE, it's worth discussing. Even then, WWE likely still wouldn't fold, but it'd be fun drama if there was some histrionic laden situation resulting from it.

A lot of wrestling fans have memories that span around a month. Every time history repeats itself, people act shocked.

Apparently the WWE investors lawsuits against the company in regards to allegations of shady stuff going down with WWE's Saudi deals got settled out of court for around $39 million.

That included allegations of WWE misleading their investors over how much they were actually getting for the Saudi shows, not telling them about the Saudi government being late with payments, and keeping secret the big dispute between Vince and the Saudi crown prince that led to the infamous plane incident last year.

Its not a character archetype that Pillman invented but he took it places no one had before him. Moxley is far less innovative but I find his persona and promos fairly entertaining. In that area, I think he gets criticized more than he deserves.

In ring im not a fan. He can have great matches but only with the right people. He's not going to be carrying anyone.
And he does the hard-core stuff to often.

I’m sure any run with Seth was horrible. Seth Rollins is boring as shit and he settled comfortably into the WWE yes-man stage a long time ago. As a man, Moxley has personality that could be used to make money. Whether AEW is making the most of it is a different discussion.

Seth is really good in the ring. His psychology is spotty at times (I HATE the superplex into a falcon arrow for a two count), but I think he's overall the second best member of The Shield. Roman Reigns is killing it and easily #1.

Ambrose was the most ready at the start when he did have some mystique behind his swagger, but exposure and being a bit of a cliche have really knocked him down.

If I had to choose to build a company around either Dean Ambrose or Seth Rollins, I'm going with Rollins. Especially if you allow him to cut actual promos (he's not an amazing talker, but he knows how to structure a promo when left to his own devices) and can focus on him in much better ways. And for fuck's sake, get the man off Twitter. He is a giant weiner and it actually helped kill him as a babyface.

But yes, dude is a company yes-man. It's about as obnoxious as Moxley's "I'm too cool for school and follow the art maaaaaaan" stereotype.

Apparently Gillberg suffered a heart attack a couple days ago according to James Ellsworth.

Former WWE wrestler James Ellsworth, who is a very close friend of fellow former star Gillberg, has revealed that Gillberg suffered a heart attack yesterday.

Taking to Twitter, Ellsworth said that Gillberg, real name Duane Gill, is doing fine, but his wife wanted Ellsworth to provide an update on his condition.

He said:

“I just got off the phone with Duane Gill, also known as Gillberg’s wife. She wanted me to let everybody know what’s going on with Duane. He had a heart attack yesterday, but he is doing okay, he’s doing good, he just got out of ICU, doing very well. So I just wanna say that first and foremost, he is doing fine and he should be okay going foward. Hopefully he’ll be home this weekend and start transitioning to getting back to normal, but his wife just wanted me to get on here and tell everyone what’s going on. So please send your prayers to Gillberg and his family at this time, and hopefully he’ll be home soon and back to his normal fun, goofy self.”

Apparently next season of Dark Side of the Ring won't feature an episode on Chyna due to a dispute between the series producer and Chyna's former manager in regards to alleged rights issues.

When Dark Side of the Ring returns for a third season, there’s one subject that we know won’t be covered: Chyna. Wrestling Inc reports that producer Evan Husney has confirmed that there will not be an episode focused on the late Ninth Wonder of the World after her former manager said that he had been approached about being involved in one.

Anthony Anzaldo told the site initially, “They are putting it on VICE. It’s a Dark Side of The Ring two hour version. They want me so bad because they know the story isn’t told without me. I am not giving them the rights while they claim they still have the rights because I signed a release when I did my sit down.”

In response, Husney issued a statement which read, “There are no plans for an episode about Chyna for the upcoming season of Dark Side of the Ring. At the start of pre-production earlier this year, we became aware of multiple projects that were currently in production about Chyna, and thus, we ultimately decided against pursuing this as a future subject.”

Can probably blame Cole for that since he's the one teaching all of WWE's commentators or at least all the lead commentators which is why they all sound the same these days.

Problem with Striker's style is it can get irritating very quickly if he doesn't mesh with the product or the other person in the booth. That's why his brief time in NJPW ended up being really bad while his time in Lucha Underground ended up being great.

In WWE, he was like the proto-Mauro on RAW but without any of the charm mainly because of Cole & Lawler working against him the whole time he was in RAW's booth.
