Seems Kairi Sane recently made her decision regarding the future of her WWE and wrestling career.
Tokyo Sports reporting that Sane will be leaving WWE soon and returning to Japan to finish up her career before retiring.
That lines up with previous rumors of her wanting to retire by the end of next year and missing being around her husband due to him living in Japan.
Turns out the actual report from Tokyo Sports was just more rumors about Sane leaving WWE and the US. Last they heard is if she does leave, she likely will still be working for WWE in some capacity and currently isn't considering working for another promotion in Japan.

Apparently the reason for Bianca Belair's sudden return to RAW this week wasn't so much because Creative had actual plans for her but instead they simply needed someone to fill in for Liv Morgan for Ruby Riott's feud with the IIconics.
On today’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said that Bianca Belair returned on RAW last night and teamed with Ruby Riott to beat The IIconics because Liv Morgan is currently away. The match was originally set to be Morgan & Riott vs. The IIconics.
It’s still unknown why Morgan has been away from RAW since the end of June.

I wouldn't call it amazing work, but I don't blame the guy for coasting, given how rough his genuinely great work must have been on his body.
I mean, combine the work he was doing in NJ with a WWE schedule? Fuck that shit , man.

To a point. He's older and more broken down so he's not pulling off anything that Shinsuke can do now, but he's a good enough wrestler that he can work around his limitations and still have a good hard hitting match.

I fell asleep listening to wrestling podcasts. Ended up having a dream that I met The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express. I went to one of their houses and they were both working on a truck together. I wanted so badly to talk old-timey wrestling with them but all they wanted to talk about was cars and working on cars. I don’t know shit about cars. It was a nightmare.

lol I remember there being a lengthy discussion on here on whether or not Maryse is a good lay or if she's someone that would just lay there and expect the dude to rail her....because she's certainly at a level of hotness where she could easily just phone it in and still have dudes lining up for a chance.

Yeah compared to others after them, Neville and Sami would be closer to the "homegrown" side of the scale than "pre-WWE established" for how their indie star status was handled.
Wasn't until around Kevin Owens or Finn Balor where NXT's mentality with pre-established talent started to shift more in the other direction for big pushes and focus.

Sho's eternal quest to beat Shingo Takagi has been my favorite angle in New Japan for a while now. Mainly because it leads to some incredible matches. So I was so hyped for their NJcup match.
...until that piece of shit Toa Henare tweeted out an image from the match showing the winner graphic. I don't even follow the fucker. It just showed up on my page.
Fuck Toa Henare. I hope he languishes in the young lion division for the rest of his fucking life.

Even if the coronavirus hadn't wrecked things, Corgan and Lagana teased before in interviews that the NWA desperately needed a tv deal signed in order to stay afloat for the long term.
Same thing probably would have happened to Impact had Corgan actually bought them since he only had enough money to cover the purchase and maybe its debt but very little for anything else.

According to the Observer Newsletter, seems Extreme Rules is going to have at least 3 cinematic matches since the Bar Fight between Jeff Hardy and Sheamus is being taped prior to the event.
Every other match besides the Swamp Fight, Bar Fight, and Eyeball Pulling Fight will be live on Sunday.

Re: NXT champions.

Not sure I'd consider either as "homegrown" or else someone like Becky Lynch would also fit that criteria despite wrestling for around 10 years prior to her WWE debut. In terms of NXT Women champs, I'd consider Sasha Banks as homegrown since her pre-WWE career was very brief.
They did benefit a ton by being associated with NXT and WWE, especially considering Gargano and Ciampa were never meant to stick around in WWE as long as they did.
Originally, they were only meant to be brought in for the short term and to give something back to EVOLVE in terms of exposure when the partnership was signed. Their quick rise in popularity and the match they had in the 1st CWC ended up changing WWE's mind and making their stay permanent.

Thought of putting them on the list with Neville and Zayn, but then thought "nah" because they got to keep their names and play off of their previous popularity right off the bat..... granted, they didn't play off it to almost immediate success like others did, so they are still a bit different for sure.

Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson recently confirmed the rumors of them also having beef with Paul Heyman backstage prior to their WWE releases.
Besides Style, they also claimed Heyman kept lying about his big plans and promises for the group and also played a big role in their releases since he provided the list of RAW talent to Vince to get rid of.
Also both had some bad blood with Triple H over him also lying about things in order to get them to resign with WWE instead of leaving earlier for NJPW or AEW.

I think you can draw a distinction between “debuted in the crowd at Takeover/on Takeover/clearly brought in to be at the top of the card” (Nakamura/Joe/Balor/Roode/Drew/etc) and “brought in as a hand/to fill out the roster”. It’s well known that DIY weren’t pegged for greatness when they came in.

Homegrown talent has always meant one thing. I’m not sure why it’s suddenly up for debate.
If people like Zayn, Neville, and Ciampa are homegrown nxt talent, then Jericho, Eddie, and Benoit were homegrown WCW talent.
Except they’re not. Because that’s not what homegrown means.

With the help of my Mom and Grandpa, I made that dream my reality. At 23 years old, my priority was me and only me. I lived the life that the old timers told me about and life on the road was everything I thought it would be at first. As the years went on my career evolved and so did I. I became a man, a husband and a father. Year after year, loss after loss my time in the ring became less and less fulfilling and my time at home became more and more precious but there was never a healthy balance between the two. Leaving WWE may have not been on my terms, but moving forward the choices I make regarding my career and my life will be ONLY on my terms. Over the last 14 years, I lost the man I thought I was... but Thank God I’m finding him again. I’m ready to reignite my fire. I’m ready to be the wrestler I was meant to be, while being the father and the husband that my family deserves. Now it’s my turn and I’m going to rise. So y’all better watch the hell out. Special thanks to @mauricio_jc0509 with @visualfirst_production for your time and dedication to this project. Thank you to Matt Mullins with @thebringdowns for my amazing new entrance music. Thank you to @latitude35cf for allowing us to use your space and kicking my ass into top shape over the last 90 days. Thanks to my wife @prettymotherpuckers for always having my back, even when I didn’t make it easy. My mom @ddtsrt for being my biggest fan. And of course a special thanks to my friends who have supported me through all of this change @natesiemon @emusukhbayar @emileesiemon @thomasculp88, @dmcintyrewwe @ganzo.u</a></p> <p style=" color:#c9c8cd; font-family:Arial,sans-serif; font-size:14px; line-height:17px; margin-bottom:0; margin-top:8px; overflow:hidden; padding:8px 0 7px; text-align:center; text-overflow:ellipsis; white-space:nowrap;">A post shared by <a href="https://www.instagram.com/heathxxii/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=loading" style=" color:#c9c8cd; font-family:Arial,sans-serif; font-size:14px; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal; line-height:17px;" target="_blank"> HEATH XXII</a> (@heathxxii) on <time style=" font-family:Arial,sans-serif; font-size:14px; line-height:17px;" datetime="2020-07-18T04:00:18+00:00">Jul 17, 2020 at 9:00pm PDT</time></p></div></blockquote>

Apparently the filming for the Swamp Fight match for tomorrow's Extreme Rules took around 6-7 hours to complete and part of the match was inspired by the Friday the 13th horror series, according to WrestlingInc.

They also talked about the AEW VPs having a sook because they didn't sign with them, but you conveniently left that out.

I'm going to watch this with audio, but it seems to be some sort of "chasing the dream" video for Slater, which is really good, but I HATE the idea of being able to see his dreams. Why not just make it like a documentary of him driving in his car and training?
Come on, Heath -- you know better.
If that's his wife, then good for him too.
I think Keith Lee should have vacated the NA Title after winning in NXT and Slater should have come in and entered a tournament that William Regal says he needs to win in order to get an NXT deal, because "this isn't a charity" or whatever. Slater can win the tournament and have a feel-good moment with a singles belt. Probably triple AEW in the demos.

They also talked about the AEW VPs having a sook because they didn't sign with them, but you conveniently left that out.
Because it had nothing to do with topic of the bad blood between Heyman and Styles, Anderson, and Gallows. The stuff with Triple H was associated but more of him being a minor player to the Heyman beef.

Apparently someone from NXT recently got a quiet call-up to the main roster.
Fightful Select has learned that Vanessa Borne has been called up to the main roster
Considering she barely did anything of note in NXT, doubt her fortunes are going to change on the main roster.
Like her pairing with Aliyah was arguably the most notable thing she did in NXT and that got abruptly dropped after a while.
Apparently WWE's quiet call up of Vanessa Bourne to the main roster actually happened months ago but it was only discovered very recently which shows how much WWE actually cared about it.
Same for her situation being similar to Riddick Moss in regards to how sudden her promotion was and why it was done.
Fightful Select has learned that Vanessa Borne has been called up to the main roster, but there's more than meets the eye.
Fightful was told that Borne was actually called up as far back as January or February, which explains why she hasn't appeared on NXT at all since then. However, she's still not made her main roster debut.
Borne has been awaiting her debut, but moved, and hasn't been flown back in regularly since then. Borne's situation was compared to that of Riddick Moss, who had a deal coming up, and then was promoted to the main roster upon re-signing.
Since all this has unfolded, there have been major shifts in WWE, and we aren't sure of her status as of now or where she was to land.
Since running this story, we've been told that there haven't been any firm creative plans along the way for her. Chelsea Green and Dominik Dijakovic were both reportedly called up, but haven't appeared on the main roster yet, either. Dijakovic has since returned to NXT.
Outside of a few rare occasions, WWE's call-up system has been a big mess for years.

She's leaving for Japan after tonight's tapings which is covering tonight's and the July 27th episodes of RAW.

Seems WWE might be experiencing another coronavirus outbreak at the PC or some other major thing suddenly popped up since WWE's taping plans for today have been delayed big time.
WWE was slated to begin taping tonight's episode of Raw at 1 PM but as of this writing at 2:06 PM EST, still have yet to begin taping any content at the WWE Performance Center.
PWInsider.com is told the company is deep into re-working their original plans for today's taping. There is a belief among some we have spoken to that the re-writes are due to talents originally written into the show no longer being available to perform but PWInsider.com has been unable to 100% verify that is correct. It is entirely possible the poor reaction to Extreme Rules led to changes in direction. The show received one of the worst post-show poll responses in recent memory here on the site.
WWE is slated to tape tonight's episode as well as next week's episodes of Monday Night Raw and Raw Talk as well as Main Event episodes today.

The Boom periods were always because of cultural movements that wrestling could easily take advantage of.
Could make a very strong case that there should have been a boom in the mid-2000s and the reason it didn't happen was due to Vince and WWE's stubbornness over adapting to what was causing it.
When Spike TV bought the tv rights to RAW, they used WWE's high profile at the time to help boost the profile of their smaller UFC property under the correct assumption that wrestling fans could become MMA fans as well.
Once that plan started to bear fruit and UFC took off in mainstream popularity, Vince and WWE failed to both recognize and latch onto it since they saw MMA as nothing more than a fad. The failure of doing that ended up leading to a big shift of wrestling fans moving away from wrestling and into MMA with the repercussions of it lasting to this day.
Within wrestling, ROH guessed right that the future of wrestling would shift more towards work rate for popularity but because they never could seriously challenge WWE, only way a new boom would actually happen is if WWE also recognized it. WWE failed to do so because of Vince's stubbornness over adapting to the changing wind in wrestling post-Attitude Era.

That same argument could be applied to the "Ryder Revolution". Whatever your feelings about him were/are, he was mad over and did it himself at essentially the dawn of social media. He was the right guy in the right place at the right time, and WWE just said "nah".
I will always liken it to an alternate timeline where Austin cut his infamous Austin 3:16 promo, and then in spite of all of the crowd signs and subsequent pops, Vince just wasn't feeling it, and didn't capitalize with the shirts and a push. Instead, he just randomly shows up in backstage segments at catering and does the occasional job on Jakked/Metal/Shotgun.
They were stubborn on getting behind a guy they saw little value in, and then almost insultingly, tried to use what he did to create their own less successful knockoff and back their own social media platform just a tad too late on that party. Basically, they dropped the ball twice there.

Wrestling could have not gone down the slope it did, and it could have enjoyed little pockets of slightly increased popularity, but it was always going to get real cold after Austin shook Vince's hand. And the decisions they made -- namely to promote Cena so hard -- has allowed Vince to become richer than ever before without anyone that can hold a candle to him.
Vince "won" wrestling. Unless another billionaire comes along or The Rock decides to start his own promotion, you'll need Vince McMahon's empire to make you whatever passes as a star in wrestling.

Yeah, WWE's pettiness over Ryder's rise in popularity via social media was just another instance of their stubbornness to adapt to the changes in wrestling until it was unavoidable.
They'd latch onto social media afterwards but instead of making it feel organic or special like Ryder did, it quickly became just another cog in the WWE machine.
Even moments like Fandango's dance and Bryan's YES! chants becoming sudden crazes outside of wrestling ended up being quickly wasted by WWE.

Zack Ryder was shit though.
Objectively, so was Hogan. Precisely why I added the portion about how any reader may feel about him personally. He wasn't the greatest, and neither was one of the biggest stars in the entire history of the whole goddamn company and arguably the industry.
He didn't have to be Ric Flair or anything. And my Austin comparison isn't 1:1 for talent, just circumstance. You can't deny that Zack Ryder tapped into something far bigger than himself in the exact perfect moment in time, and WWE not only just rode right past it until the iron nearly completely cooled, but then tried to blatantly counterfeit it and nobody bought in.

Apparently WWE actually considered a potential Asuka vs. Natalya match for the RAW Women's Championship at SummerSlam.
Rumor going around the net is WWE's original plan was Asuka vs. Charlotte before that got dropped due to Charlotte needing boob fixing surgery.
Plan B was Asuka vs. Natalya before that also got dropped due to Natty currently doesn't feel comfortable working due to coronavirus related issues.
Plan C at the moment is Asuka vs. Shayna Baszler for the belt.

Rumor going around the net is that both FOX and USA Network have grown upset with WWE's sluggish ratings in recent times and are losing patience with WWE.
Vince's response is rumored to be him not really caring despite others in the company becoming very worried.
To put it bluntly, the ratings for episodes of Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown have taken a pretty hard hit during the Coronavirus pandemic. For example, last week’s Raw drew the lowest rating in the show’s history.
When WWE announced that Big Show vs. Randy Orton would be taking place on Raw last night and not at Extreme Rules, it was reported that this was in an attempt to boost viewership for the show.
As such, many people speculated that Vince McMahon would be incredibly unhappy with the falling TV ratings. However, a recent report indicates that, interestingly, that’s not the case.
WrestlingNews.co is reporting that Vince McMahon is not worried by the falling WWE TV ratings, and reportedly neither are the USA Network and FOX. Here’s what the site said on the matter:
“While some people in the people worry that the numbers could continue to drop, Vince McMahon has shrugged off the low numbers. WrestlingNews.co was told that McMahon feels that the numbers will get back over 2 million viewers after SummerSlam because he believes that fans will be back at shows by September.
“A WWE source said, “Vince is doing what he can by putting on PPV matches on Raw and SmackDown but USA and Fox are happy and everyone knows things will get better when we can get some people back at arenas. This is what he thinks right now and he’s not sweating these numbers.”
WWE initially reportedly had plans to have fans back into shows THIS MONTH. However, those plans have obviously been postponed. It will be interesting to see if/how Vince McMahon’s response to the ratings changes if fans are not back into shows by September.
However, a new report from Ringside News is suggesting that perhaps the USA Network and FOX aren’t overly pleased with the figures WWE is bringing in right now for their weekly shows.
The site is reporting that both the USA Network and FOX have ‘lost patience’ with the company, likely over the falling ratings. They also note that people within WWE are worried about declining ratings.
“While speaking to a source recently it was disclosed to us that WWE is feeling the pressure regarding their sinking ratings. “Sh*t runs downhill,” which makes for a very stressful work environment as some executives are taking frustrations out on anyone that they can under them. There is a lot of eggshell walking right now
“Ringside News has learned “the story that FOX and USA Network are okay with waiting for people to come back into arenas is bullsh*t.” It was previously thought that bringing fans back to arenas will encourage more viewers at home. We were told that they have lost patience with those low numbers.”
Here’s what Ringside News founder Steve Carrier had on say on Twitter about the report:
“We were told that stories about Fox and USA being patient with WWE are bullshit. They are not only really concerned about these ratings, but they are also worried about how the NFL will do more damage”.
It is important to note that Ringside News does say that neither FOX or the USA Network are reportedly considering dropping SmackDown or Raw respecitvely from their networks. They are just losing patience with the company.
Also starting in mid-August, FS1 won't be airing WWE programming on Tuesdays due to MLB. The network's statement to Post Wrestling did not mention if WWE programming would resume after this year's MLB Playoffs ended.

Nothing major and when they did have shows pulling in good numbers, not enough of them to put any real pressure on WWE. WWE still holds a big advantage of providing consistent 52-week shows per year compared to popular regular shows taking lengthy breaks in between seasons.
FOX is in a similar situation even though they also have a long time rep of not being shy when it comes to pulling the plug on under performing or expensive shows. The year before SD's arrival, FOX had a kids cooking contest show that was pulling in 3-4+ million weekly but only lasted for a few months at a time since it was seasonal.
There are also other factors besides ratings that contribute to both WWE's advantages and disadvantages with both networks.

Outside of being carried by Christian, has he even had a great match?
Nope. Not really. Then again, he never really got the chance to have one. Which is part of my overall point. We have no idea how he may have progressed if the machine actually got behind him and not one half-assed, late-to-the-party midcard title run or an angle where the payoff was to make him look like a complete asshole loser nobody should care about.
Remember, Vince is the same guy who even publicly admitted that he didn't see anything of value in one of his last great golden geese in John Cena. And if he decided to never pull that trigger, this conversation or some like it would likely be listing him as a failure of "all body, no substance". And even there, he didn't become the T-shirt moving company man overnight. It took YEARS and sustainability, not jobbing out in random matches on shows nobody watched once a month with him just walking by on someone else's backstage and spending the rest of his time going from city to city to be not booked.
Again, you personally didn't think much of Ryder. Fair enough. You look at him in nearly the same light I still see Keith Lee- whereas I can't deny the guy is over, but I personally still can only see him as one of the two schlub ex-football players as a tag team in ROH (the other guy was Shane Taylor, who's still there). He is a better talker than Shane, but just strikes me as a generic "big man" in a sea of "big men". I'm not creaming my pants over him. But he obviously has something I don't see, because he was getting reaction when crowds were real, and he seems like he should tick all the boxes for the Vinnie Mac approval checklist.
We don't know what could have been for Zack if he actually had gotten a fair shake while he was hot.
As for Fandango, I agree that was another dropped boat. Different way, though. Like, they seemed to think the whole reason he caught on was the dumbass song and not because he was talented. And even later when the Fashion Police started breathing new life into his and Tyler Breeze's careers, they got pushed to backstage segments (which were still getting huge pops), and then shuffled THAT off to "internet exclusive" territory. You basically had to go out of your way to watch one of the more talented and popular acts of the time. Almost as shameful as TNA's treatment of MCMG when they were the hottest tag team the company had in spite of barely being on TV.

I used to love Val Venis. Probably because I wanted an "other" so bad and I enjoyed his player/coach work in Sunday Night Heat more than Raw or SmackDown most weeks. And I remember reading an article that was right into that specific heel run where they pointed out he wasn't quite like the other Right to Censor members.
I think they could have pushed the Right to Censor out. In retrospect, it would have been nice to see the RTC make a Judgment Day PPV. But I do seem to remember people being ready for them to end at the time.
Bull Buchanan and D'Lo Brown were a tag team in All Japan for a while. They were part of a faction led by Taka Michinoku with Mike Awesome. Umaga, Rico Constantino and Justin Credible were also in there for a while. If they were around today, they'd probably be as over as The Bullet Club, haha.

According to ESPN, current MLW Heavyweight champion Jacob Fatu is staying in MLW for the foreseeable future.
He recently signed a new deal with the company locking him up until 2025. Also his new deal has similar terms as other recent deals offered by MLW where talent are allowed to take outside bookings except if it involves WWE and AEW.
MLW managing to sign several new tv and distribution deals during this on-going coronavirus pandemic has been a huge blessing for them.
The reigning MLW World Heavyweight Champion Jacob Fatu has inked a new deal with Major League Wrestling, per a report from ESPN. MLW and Fatu came to an agreement on a new deal in late 2019, which was a few months after Fatu won their world title. This new deal has extended Fatu for four more years and he’ll be with MLW until late 2025.
PWInsider added that the original MLW deals only prevented talents from working with WWE. With the emergence of All Elite Wrestling, contracts have been restructured to become more exclusive. Fatu joins Alexander Hammerstone, Myron Reed, Salina de la Renta and Richard Holliday who’ve also had their deals restructured.

I prefer Hansen's lariat as well, for the same reason as you. JBL's always seemed the same -- definitely a nice looking lariat. But there was a certain sanitization about it...it always looked the same.
Hansen's was unpredictable. Sometimes it'd look sort of like JBL's lariat, and other times it was akin to a knockout punch. He'd fucking smack someone... and instead of them taking some massive, showy bump, they'd just drop like a sack of shit. Probably because he actually hit the person and flash k.o.'d them before they could bump lol.
Also, Hansen's psychology with the lariat was better. He'd do little things like pull up his elbow pad to make it seem like he'd have to "protect his arm" because he'd hit you so hard. But it was always a great visual and the audience would react.

Think that is only the second time that's happened for them since the coronavirus really started to ravage the ratings for televised wrestling.

Would be called the NXT UK Heritage Cup based on a recent trademark filing.
They also filed a similar trademark without the NXT UK tag and possibly for use for non-NXT UK brands.

ACH's GCW debit was pretty decent overall.
Not sure it was a wise idea to have a very lengthy and slow paced match in 80+ degree heat though since it did affect the match's flow at times.
The Scramble match before it was a much better mix of action and match timing for an outdoor show in that type of heat.

The best story I ever read about Verne Gagne was how he had a busted index finger for years, kept breaking it and just taping it back up until it essentially "died" and he lost all feeling in it.
Anyway he was in a match with someone, he puts the claw on them and when they blade for it they somehow hack the end of Verne's finger off.

Dear Emperor Smeat,
I've noticed that you seem to watch all wrestling pretty much so I have a few inquiries.
What is your favorite promotion? Least favorite? Do you only watch new wrestling or do you watch old as well, and how old? The reason I'm asking is because I feel you may be the the purest of all of us.
Myself am over saturated with product 100% I'd usually rather watch whatever the latest Netflix hit show is like "Dating on the Spectrum" or "Down to Earth With Zac Efron." I mean when it comes to today's wrestling how many times do I need to see the overly protected suicide dive, and why should I be watching anyone abuse the super kick beyond The Young Bucks?
The over choreography of a lot of today's wrestling is what really dampens my spirit. Seeing the red thigh from the slap for the knapp. Canadian destroyer every match.... yeah I know I'm describing the basic Young Bucks or Lucha Bro's match but they are amazing. They are the best of the best. Everyone is is not the best of the best but tries to have a Wrestlemania show stealer crammed into whatever time frame they are given for their match.

Dear Emperor Smeat,

What is your favorite promotion? Least favorite? Do you only watch new wrestling or do you watch old as well, and how old? The reason I'm asking is because I feel you may be the the purest of all of us.
Favorite - Leaning towards NJPW. Watched one of their Wrestle Kingdom shows several years ago and got instantly hooked on the promotion. Before that, mostly knew of them via gifs, videos, and reading online discussions.
Least favorite - Impact Wrestling. Less so about the actual quality of their shows and more because I rarely felt hooked or interested whenever I'd watch beyond some brief periods. Last time I saw a regular Impact episode was during the Final Deletion stuff and stopped after that was over.
In regards to old wrestling, I watch that from time to time. Mainly stuff from the Attitude Era since I have more fond memories of that period of wrestling than other periods. Usually all depends if I'm in the mood for some classic wrestling or if something peaks my interest that was posted or talked about online.
In regards to modern wrestling, never really had a problem with it becoming very athletic or spot-heavy for matches since around the early to mid-2000s, I started to enjoy that style of wrestling more than WWE's story and promo-heavy style of wrestling.

I like watching a death match every once in a while since sometimes they end up being pretty great but after this weekend's set of GCW's shows, I've had my fill of them for the foreseeable future.
Light tubes used to be the thing I liked the least about them but that changed after seeing a couple matches last year that involved scissors and blades boards. Especially after seeing one guy almost impale himself in the chest with a scissor. Think GCW stopped using those type of boards for matches after that incident.

Seems WWE dropped their plans for a new higher priced tier for the Network that had been rumored for months to include content from their affiliated promotions.
Earlier this month, WWE held a virtual shareholders meeting involving its executive staff for a company update. Brandon Thurston at Wrestlenomics has a great review of the call and below are some of the highlights ...
During the Q&A, Riddick stated the free version of the WWE Network has had “early positive results, but nothing definitive” – last week, Stephanie McMahon had noted network engagement was up 67% and you would have to attribute a sizable portion of that to the opening of the free tier and the promotion they did when the pandemic began where lots of content was made free
In a major shift from the George Barrios & Michelle Wilson era, Riddick said that don’t believe a premium tiered system is an optimum approach to maximize the subscription value. Instead, they are going with the free model to bring in new subscribers with the hope of converting them while also developing “local currency pricing in select international markets”
Also current rumor going around the net is WWE is looking at a potential outdoor location for this year's SummerSlam event.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">WWE could possibly run outdoor locations for Summerslam, according to some of the murmurs within the company. They should. With MLB, MLS and NBA scrimmages, I'd expect RAW to likely do an all-time low rating this week.
I just don't see how they can avoid that.
Yeah, next 2-3 months are going to be brutal for wrestling numbers.
Add in NFL and rumors of College Football looking at a Spring 2021 season and it might not be until next summer that wrestling gets any real reprieve from the sports onslaught.
That's assuming this coronavirus stuff doesn't take a turn for the worse in the winter.

Stuck in bit of a wrestling rut. I need a new long stretch project but I think I've done everything that I'm interested in.
Might do WCW Saturday Night 1998/99. Two hours a show is a long time to sit through C show matches . The 1 hour Worldwide's are way easier to do

Supposedly he apologized for those comments in the past, same with Kevin Owens since he's in one of the videos but wouldn't be surprised if he got suspended.
2nd time those comments have resurfaced recently with the first being when the big wave of abuse and sexual harassment accusations was rocking wrestling. That's how Sammy got busted while Excalibur and Owens somehow managed to be left unscathed.
If people are going to dig thru old wrestling events of the last 5-20 years they are going find massive amounts of things to get outraged over.
I'm pretty sure Roderick Strong and Johnny Gargano were using the F word in indy feds a year before signing w/ WWE and in general PWG, ROH and TNA have tons of stuff that would be considered offensive. I say leave it all in the past and focus on the now, personally.

Idk about Gargano, but Strong didn't do that. AJ Styles used it pretty frequently though.
All people need to do is watch any early PWG show with the commentary on and they will hear the entire commentary team say some racist shit anytime a black person is in the ring. Obviously they were doing it for shock value but it was still stupid and ignorant as fuck.
Pretty surprised he's still doing AEW commentary tbh. He hasn't improved at all since he got there even though he's working with legends every week. I find him pretty annoying. Take him out, put Tazz in, and my interest goes up a lot.

Jerry Lawler's output during the Attitude days was just constant smut. I'd say about 75% of what he said on any given night was closer to the bone than Rhiannon.
I watch back and it constantly blows my mind. Just watch literally any women's match from 98-2002
Idk about Gargano, but Strong didn't do that.

The Owens and Excalibur stuff is just young people saying offensive things for attention. They're not racist. They just lacked the empathy and understanding of why using that word, even within that context is an extremely hurtful and insensitive thing to do. They should be made to apologize for any offense or pain they caused.
That's what should happen, but we live in 2020. Best case scenario is they are kept off TV for months. During this time they will be made to undergo sensitivity training despite the fact that they have already grown and matured as people at this point and would probably never even think of acting like that today, promo or not.
